New Records for the Hadamard Maximal Determinant Problem in Dimensions $51$, $107$, $111$, $115$, and $119$

Abstract

We compute new lower bounds for determinants of $\{\pm 1\}$-matrices of orders $n=51$, $n=107$, $n=111$, $n=115$, and $n=119$, improving previous recorded bounds by $3.1\%$, $0.44\%$, $1.26\%$, $1.68\%$, and $2.12\%$, respectively. We provide the data necessary to construct these matrices.

Summing the sum of digits

We revisit and generalize inequalities for the summatory function of the sum of digits in a given integer base. We prove that several known results can be deduced from a theorem in a 2023 paper by Mohanty, Greenbury, Sarkany, Narayanan, Dingle, Ahnert, and Louis, whose primary scope is the maximum mutational robustness in genotype-phenotype maps.
