A doctrine-grounded visual question answering dataset for Tactical Combat Casualty Care

Abstract

Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) requires responders to connect visual observations of injuries and interventions with established clinical guidance. Developing vision-language models to support this process requires supervision that links visible evidence to traceable doctrine. We present TC3-VQA, a dataset constructed from public instructional and field TC3 videos and authoritative TC3 documents. It contains 581 items spanning 11 concepts, with 1,860 questions covering intervention recognition, doctrine, clinical reasoning, procedural guidance, and refusal when visual information is insufficient. Doctrine-based answers preserve verbatim source passages and character offsets. Construction combines visual annotation, passage retrieval, entailment checks, and verification across model families. Equipment boxes, anatomical labels, temporal segments, and source metadata accompany the question-answer pairs. Automated audits and ratings by two physicians and two medical students characterize annotation quality, with human ratings available for 88 retained items. The dataset provides a resource for adapting vision-language models to TC3, studying the connection between visual evidence and clinical knowledge, and evaluating recognition, doctrine recall, and abstention.

PanoLAM: Large Avatar Model for Gaussian Full-Head Synthesis from One-shot Unposed Image

We present a feed-forward framework for static Gaussian full-head reconstruction and novel-view rendering from a single unposed image. Unlike previous work that relies on time-consuming GAN inversion and test-time optimization, our framework can reconstruct the Gaussian full-head model given a single unposed image in a single forward pass. This enables fast reconstruction and rendering during inference. To mitigate the lack of large-scale 3D head assets, we propose a large-scale synthetic dataset from trained 3D GANs and train our framework using only synthetic data. For efficient high-fidelity generation, we introduce a coarse-to-fine Gaussian head generation pipeline, where sparse points from the FLAME model interact with the image features by transformer blocks for feature extraction and coarse shape reconstruction, which are then densified for high-fidelity reconstruction. To fully leverage the prior knowledge residing in pretrained 3D GANs for effective reconstruction, we propose a dual-branch framework that effectively aggregates the structured spherical triplane feature and unstructured point-based features for more effective Gaussian head reconstruction. Experimental results show the effectiveness of our framework compared to existing work. The dataset is available at https://github.com/PanoLAM/PanoLAM_Dataset.

Exploring the Underwater World Segmentation without Extra Training

Accurate segmentation of marine organisms is vital for biodiversity monitoring and ecological assessment, yet existing datasets and models remain largely limited to terrestrial scenes. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textbf{AquaOV255}, the first large-scale and fine-grained underwater segmentation dataset containing 255 categories and over 20K images, covering diverse categories for open-vocabulary (OV) evaluation. Furthermore, we establish the first underwater OV segmentation benchmark, \textbf{UOVSBench}, by integrating AquaOV255 with five additional underwater datasets to enable comprehensive evaluation. Alongside, we present \textbf{Earth2Ocean}, a training-free OV segmentation framework that transfers terrestrial vision--language models (VLMs) to underwater domains without any additional underwater training. Earth2Ocean consists of two core components: a Geometric-guided Visual Mask Generator (\textbf{GMG}) that refines visual features via self-similarity geometric priors for local structure perception, and a Category-visual Semantic Alignment (\textbf{CSA}) module that enhances text embeddings through multimodal large language model reasoning and scene-aware template construction. Extensive experiments on the UOVSBench benchmark demonstrate that Earth2Ocean achieves significant performance improvement on average while maintaining efficient inference.

CHIMERA: Adaptive Cache Injection and Semantic Anchor Prompting for Zero-shot Image Morphing with Morphing-oriented Metrics

Recent diffusion-based image morphing methods typically interpolate inverted latents and reuse limited conditioning signals, which often yields unstable intermediates for heterogeneous endpoint pairs. In particular, (i) feature reuse is usually partial or non-adaptive, leading to abrupt structural changes or over-smoothing, and (ii) text conditions are commonly obtained independently per endpoint and then interpolated, which can introduce incompatible semantics. We present CHIMERA, a novel zero-shot diffusion morphing framework that addresses both issues via inversion-guided denoising with complementary feature reuse and text conditioning. Adaptive Cache Injection (ACI) caches a broader set of multi-scale diffusion features beyond Key-Value-only reuse during DDIM inversion, and re-injects them with layer- and timestep-aware scheduling to stabilize denoising and enable gradual fusion. Semantic Anchor Prompting (SAP) uses a VLM to generate a shared anchor-prompt and anchor-conditioned endpoint prompts, and injects the anchor into cross-attention to improve intermediate semantic coherence. Finally, we propose Global-Local Consistency Score (GLCS), a morphing-oriented metric that jointly captures global domain harmonization and local transition smoothness. Extensive experiments and a user study show that CHIMERA produces smoother and more semantically consistent morphing results than prior methods, while remaining efficient and applicable across diverse diffusion backbones without retraining.
