Diversifying Moving Target Defense Against Adaptive Attacks Through Factorized Diffusion

Abstract

Proactive defense offers a means to enhance power-system cybersecurity through controlled modifications of system configurations. One example is moving target defense (MTD), which uses distributed flexible AC transmission system (D-FACTS) devices to perturb transmission-line reactances against stealthy false data injection attacks. Existing MTD methods primarily rely on deterministic optimization, producing a single perturbation plan for each operating condition. However, repeated or highly correlated plans may expose predictable system configurations that attackers can learn and exploit. To address this limitation, this paper reformulates MTD as a conditional generative problem that produces diverse, secure, and physically feasible perturbation candidates. Learning such a distribution is challenging because MTD decisions jointly involve selecting branches, determining perturbation magnitudes, and coordinating adjustments across the network. To make this problem tractable, we factorize the decision distribution into three sequential conditional stages: branch selection, magnitude allocation, and continuous refinement. Graph-conditioned diffusion models are employed to capture the discrete and continuous decisions while accounting for network dependencies. Furthermore, a - objective is incorporated into diffusion training to favor candidates with desirable defense effectiveness and operational costs. Numerical studies on the IEEE 118- and 300-bus systems show that the proposed framework achieves AC feasibility comparable to that of optimization-based MTD baselines and higher - values, while reducing online computation time by an order of magnitude. The generated candidate pool remains effective under changing operating conditions and device availability, providing diverse high-value alternatives for flexible online cyber defense.

A flexible language model-assisted electronic design automation framework

Large language models (LLMs) are transforming electronic design automation (EDA) by enhancing design stages such as schematic design, simulation, netlist synthesis, and place-and-route. Existing methods primarily focus these optimisations within isolated open-source EDA tools and often lack the flexibility to handle multiple domains, such as analogue, digital, and radio-frequency design. In contrast, modern systems require to interface with commercial EDA environments, adhere to tool-specific operation rules, and incorporate feedback from design outcomes while supporting diverse design flows. We propose a versatile framework that uses LLMs to generate files compatible with commercial EDA tools and optimise designs using power-performance-area reports. This is accomplished by guiding the LLMs with tool constraints and feedback from design outputs to meet tool requirements and user specifications. The framework is used to evaluate case studies on operational transconductance amplifiers, microstrip patch antennas, and FPGA circuits.

Vector-field-guided constraint-following control for path following of uncertain mechanical systems

Achieving dynamics-level control is a critical yet challenging problem for accurate, high-speed geometric path-following of uncertain robotic systems. This paper proposes a vector-field-guided constraint-following control framework for geometric path following of uncertain mechanical systems. The key idea is to encode vector-field guidance as a velocity constraint, enabling a unified force/torque control design for a class of fully actuated and underactuated systems with desired paths that may be self-intersecting. A global, explicit error estimate connects constraint-following accuracy to path-following performance with convergence guarantees. An adaptive robust extension further addresses heterogeneous time-varying uncertainties with unknown bounds and ensures ultimately bounded path-following error. Applications to an underactuated aircraft system and a fully actuated manipulator system demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the framework.

Prospect Theoretic Approach to Pursuit-evasion Differential Games with Risk Aversion and Probability Sensitivity

This paper considers pursuit-evasion (PE) differential games in which the pursuer's and evader's irrational perceptions of environmental uncertainty lead to deviations from rational controllers. Firstly, the equivalent irrational behavioral models of risk aversion and probability sensitivity are established using Cumulative Prospect Theory (CPT). Secondly, sufficient conditions for capturability are established in terms of irrationality parameters. Finally, the CPT-Nash equilibrium is analyzed by Brouwer's fixed-point and self-consistency theorem. The new results reveal that irrational behaviors benefit the pursuer in some cases and the evader in others. Certain captures that are unachievable under rational behaviors can be achieved under irrational ones. By bridging irrational behavior with game-based control, a theoretical foundation is established for human-machine control systems.
