Lorentz-Invariance Violation with neutrinos from gamma-ray bursts using IceCube High-Energy Starting Events 12-year dataset

Abstract

High-energy astrophysical neutrinos provide a unique probe of Lorentz-invariance violation (LIV), as small energy-dependent deviations from the speed of light can produce measurable time delays over cosmological distances. We search for LIV-induced correlations between neutrinos and gamma-ray bursts using the public 12-year IceCube High-Energy Starting Event dataset and a catalog of 746 bursts with measured redshifts. We develop a likelihood analysis accounting for neutrino directional and energy uncertainties, a possible intrinsic time offset between neutrino and gamma-ray emission, and the decay of superluminal neutrinos expected within effective field theory. For linear LIV, the data show a mild preference over the background-only hypothesis, with a $p$-value of $3.1\%$, corresponding to a one-sided Gaussian significance of approximately $1.9σ$. The best fit corresponds to a LIV scale $Λ_{\rm LIV}=5.8\times10^{17}\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and is effectively driven by the subluminal component, as superluminal neutrinos are strongly suppressed by LIV-induced decays at the analyzed energies. The preferred LIV scale and the most significant neutrino--gamma-ray burst associations are consistent with previous studies based on different statistical approaches. No evidence for quadratic LIV is found. These results motivate further searches with complementary neutrino datasets, particularly at lower energies, where the superluminal component may become observable.

Exceptional Jordan spectra and conditional fermion mass relations

We formulate a conditional fermion-mass ansatz motivated by the exceptional Jordan algebra, separating its geometric order parameters from the physical chiral matter representation. A real coassociative octonionic configuration has Jordan spectrum $(s-δ,s,s+δ)$; the choice $δ^2=3/8$ specifies its normalization rather than a derived physical mass scale. An explicit compression of a positive operator on $Sym^3(C^3)$ reproduces the proposed quark mass formulas for stated weight selections. The selected three-dimensional spaces are not $SU(3)$ subrepresentations, and the charged-lepton formulas require an additional cross-sector transport rule. Eliminating the spectral parameter yields exact consistency relations, including $\sqrt{m_c/m_u}=2\sqrt{m_t/m_c}-1$. A common-scale comparison using a published 2026 Standard-Model running-Yukawa analysis, supplemented by PDG 2026 checks, exhibits substantial discrepancies. In particular, the up-sector relation fails at the electroweak benchmark even when $δ$ is released. We identify the interaction, localization and kinetic-normalization data needed to derive or modify the ansatz. The construction retains a geometric interpretation but establishes neither three generations inside a single $E_6$ representation $27$ nor a precision explanation of the measured fermion masses.

High-Energy Evolution of Power-Suppressed Amplitudes

We present a new class of evolution equations which govern the high-energy behavior of power-suppressed scattering amplitudes. The equations can be viewed as a renormalization group flow with respect to the relevant effective field theory cutoff. A distinct feature of the method is in the use of a multidimensional cutoff to separate the relevant scales in problems characterized by a complex factorization structure. By adjusting the renormalization group variables to the geometry of the effective theory modes, our method naturally extends to a broad spectrum of physical problems including massive, massless, small, and wide angle scattering. We present applications to the benchmark processes of electron-positron forward annihilation and light quark mediated Higgs boson production/decays.

Direct Detection of Leptophobic Dark Matter with Electronic Collective Excitations

Some new-generation dark matter detection experiments are primarily designed to search for the dark matter-electron interactions, but they can also be utilized to probe models in which dark matter couples exclusively to nucleon via the quantum effects. The hadronic loop-induced interactions can directly excite plasmons in semiconductors, thereby providing an additional channel for detecting the leptophobic dark matter. In this work, we investigate plasmon excitations in silicon detectors induced by boosted dark matter and cosmic-ray up-scattering dark matter via the hadronic loop process. By analyzing the available experimental data, we derive new exclusion limits on the leptophobic dark matter-nucleon scattering cross section in the sub-MeV mass range.
