Development of an Analog Front-End Using NINO ASIC for Mini-ICAL
Abstract
The mini-ICAL was supposed to be a pre-prototype detector of the Iron CALorimeter (ICAL) of the India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project. Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) was the active element of these detectors. As this detector operates in avalanche mode, one needs a very fast pre-amplifier for signal processing. NINO ASIC developed for the ALICE time-of-flight detector was a potential chip to be used as the analog-front end. This paper presents an 8-in-1 pre-amplifier board developed using the NINO ASIC, a single-ended to differential signal conversion using the differential driver chip manufactured by Texas Instruments, production of the boards, lessons learned during production, testing of these boards, and interface with RPCs. Finally, its performance based on strip rates and efficiency of the detector will also be discussed.
