Finite-Branch Multipliers on a Hölder Algebra: Commutants, Norm Closures, and Essential Spectra

Abstract

Noninjective multiplication symbols allow commuting operators to mix function values along their fibers, while Hölder regularity constrains this mixing at branch points. We study these operators on the Banach algebra $A_β$, $0<β<1$, defined by a restricted interval-variation condition. For $u(t)=t(1-t)$, we determine the full commutant $\{M_u\}'=\mathscr C_β$, including operators whose reflection coefficients need not belong to $A_β$. Separately, we characterize the operator-norm closure $J_β$ of the regular multiplication--reflection subalgebra of $\mathscr C_β$, obtain two-sided norm-distance estimates, and find a complemented copy of $\ell^\infty/c_0$ in the Banach-space quotient $\mathscr C_β/J_β$. Every $T\in\mathscr C_β$ satisfies $σ(T)=σ_{\mathrm{ap}}(T)=σ_{\mathrm{usf}}(T)=σ_{\mathrm{ess}}(T)$, and Fredholmness is equivalent to invertibility. For multipliers with finitely many full bi-Lipschitz branches, we also characterize their full commutants and establish the same spectral equalities for every commuting operator. For the regular finite-branch algebra, we establish an exact norm-closure criterion using weighted local Hölder defects and separate row-difference conditions, even when several folds share a level.

Morse theory methods for a class of quasi-linear elliptic systems of higher order

We develop the local Morse theory for a class of non-twice continuously differentiable functionals on Hilbert spaces, including a new generalization of the Gromoll-Meyer's splitting theorem and a weaker Marino-Prodi perturbation type result. They are applicable to a wide range of multiple integrals with quasi-linear elliptic Euler equations and systems of higher order.

Group-Frames for Banach Spaces

In the literature, frames generated by unitary representations of groups (known as group-frames) have been studied only for Hilbert spaces. We conduct the first study of frames for Banach spaces generated by isometrically invertible representations of discrete groups on Banach spaces. These frames are characterized using left-regular and right-regular representations, Gram matrices, and group matrices on classical sequence spaces. A sufficiently large collection of functional-vector pairs using the double commutant of the representation is identified to generate group-frames for Banach spaces. Subsequently, we study Schauder frames generated by time-frequency shift operators on finite-dimensional Banach spaces. We derive the Moyal formula, the fundamental identity of Gabor analysis, the Wexler-Raz criterion, and the Ron-Shen duality in functional form.

A Complex Geometric Approach to the Discrete Gabor Transform and Localization Operators on the Flat Torus

In a recent paper, the discrete Gabor transform was connected to a Gabor transform with a time frequency domain given by the flat torus. We show that the corresponding Bargmann-Fock spaces can be expressed as theta functions (or equivalently line bundles on Abelian varieties). We give applications of this viewpoint to frame results for the discrete Gabor transform. In particular, we get necessary conditions which hold in higher dimensions and can expand the known results in the one dimensional case, the primary tool being the theorem of the square. We also give an application to asymptotics of restriction operators which arises via the asymptotic behavior of Bergman kernels and Toeplitz operators for high tensor powers of line bundles and find that discrete time frequency restriction operators will exhibit "plunge" behaviors similar to those of time frequency restriction operators in other contexts.
