An affine reverse Faber-Krahn inequality via information decay

Abstract

We prove that every convex body $K\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ admits $S\in\mathrm{SL}_n(\mathbb{R})$ such that $λ_1(SK)|K|^{2/n}\le Cn$, where $C$ is universal. For origin-symmetric bodies of volume one, the bound holds in maximal Gaussian measure position. The main step is the spectral estimate \[ λ_1(D)\le C(P)\bigl(n+\sqrt{n I(ν\midγ_n)}\bigr) \] for an even isotropic log-concave probability measure $ν$ supported on a symmetric convex body $D$, with Poincaré constant at most $P$ and finite relative Fisher information. A second-order Stein estimate and an information jump under convolution give entropy decay faster than $m^{-1}$ for normalised sums. Their supports control the Gaussian measure of dilates, and a Brownian bridge expansion gives the spectral estimate. A Gaussian-weighted ground state supplies a measure whose Fisher information is bounded in terms of $λ_1(K)$. The square-root dependence then gives the bound of order $n$.

Spectral Theory and Continuum Norm Resolvent Convergence of a One-Sided Discrete Dirac-Type Operator

We investigate a one-dimensional discrete Dirac-type operator $D_d$ acting on the Hilbert space $\big(\ell^2(\mathbb{Z};\mathbb{C})\big)^2$, obtained from the classical continuous free Dirac operator by replacing the spatial derivative with the one-sided backward difference operator $I - S_1$, where $S_1$ denotes the right shift on $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z};\mathbb{C})$. We establish the fundamental operator-theoretic and spectral properties of $D_d$: unlike symmetric or supersymmetric lattice discretizations, $D_d$ is bounded and non-normal for every non-zero rest mass $m > 0$, with self-commutator $[D_d, D_d^†] = -2mc^3(-Δ_{\mathrm{disc}})σ_2$, yet it is quadratically normal. We compute the exact operator norm, determine the exact spectral radius in two mass regimes, and show via Fourier--Laurent analysis that the spectrum $σ(D_d)$ is purely continuous and lies on a two-component algebraic curve in the complex plane undergoing a topological transition at $mc^2 = 2c$. Finally, introducing a lattice spacing $h > 0$ and embedding $\big(\ell^2(h\mathbb{Z};\mathbb{C})\big)^2$ isometrically into $\big(L^2(\mathbb{R};\mathbb{C})\big)^2$ via Whittaker--Shannon band-limited interpolation, we prove that the scaled non-normal discrete Dirac-type operator $D_{d,h}$ converges to the continuous self-adjoint Dirac operator $D$ in the norm resolvent sense at the optimal rate $\mathcal{O}(h)$ as $h \to 0^+$, without requiring frequency cutoffs.

Schrodinger group along the horocycles and Egorov's theorem on compact hyperbolic surfaces

In this paper, we study Egorov's theorem for Laplacian eigenfunctions on compact hyperbolic surfaces in Zelditch's quantization. In this quantization, the remainder in Egorov's theorem for eigenfunctions is given explicitly by the second derivatives of the symbols along the weak stable foliation of the geodesic flow. Forward in time, we show that Egorov's theorem for eigenfunctions is valid to all logarithmic times, far beyond the Ehrenfest time T_E=|log h|/2, where h going to 0 is the semiclassical parameter. Backward in time, we introduce the Schrodinger group along the stable horocycles, which absorbs the exponentially growing part of the remainder. We show that Egorov's theorem for eigenfunctions is valid up to -T_E+T_h for any Th going to infinity with 0<=T_h<=T_E. Moreover, the limit of the remainder in Egorov's theorem at the Ehrenfest time -T_E is exactly the difference between the semiclassical measure and the Liouville measure, tested against the symbols propagated by the Schrodinger group. Consequently, Egorov's theorem for a sequence of eigenfunctions holds at -T_E (and in fact, at -T_E-T for any fixed T in R if and only if the sequence tends to be equidistributed in the phase space. Thus, the quantum unique ergodicity (QUE) conjecture is equivalent to this Egorov property holding for every eigenbasis. Furthermore, QUE holds with a polynomial rate if and only if Egorov's theorem holds at -T_E with a polynomial remainder. In this case, Egorov's theorem holds beyond -T_E with a polynomial remainder, and the stronger the rate is in QUE, the longer the time is in Egorov's theorem.

Estimates for Ratios of Low-Order Eigenvalues of the Laplacian with Muckenhoupt Weights on Euclidean Domains

We study low-order eigenvalue ratio estimates for the Laplacian with Muckenhoupt $A_2$ weights. For weights bounded above and below, we prove a universal upper bound for $λ_2/λ_1$ with constant $1 + \frac{4}{n}\,\frac{C}{c}$, linear in the ratio of the weight bounds, and recover the classical Payne-Pólya-Weinberger bound as a special case. For radial decreasing weights, we prove that the ball maximizes $λ_2/λ_1$ among domains of equal volume, assuming that an admissible radial test function exists (Definition 5.8) and that on the ball the second eigenvalue is attained by the $l=1$ mode. The argument adapts the method of Ashbaugh--Benguria to the weighted setting via a weighted Chiti comparison theorem and a monotonicity property of the admissible radial test function (Definition 5.8). Higher-order eigenvalue ratios are estimated in terms of the $(n-1)$-Hausdorff measure of the boundary, under an explicit balance condition on the weight at the covering scale. The generalized Payne-Pólya-Weinberger conjecture for eigenvalue sums remains open in general; conditional results are presented for restricted families of domains.
