"Topological" Hall effect in the ferromagnetic microparticles with noncoplanar magnetization distribution

The phenomenological theory for "topological" Hall effect (THE) is proposed. The theory can be used for qualitative analysis of THE in the medium with arbitrary magnetization distribution. In the paper the cylindrical particle with "vortex" magnetization is considered. The hysteresis loop of THE is qualitatively different comparing to abnormal Hall effect. The estimation of THE magnitude in the "vortex" particle is made. For Co particle with 100 nm diameter the THE exceeds normal and abnormal Hall effects until an external magnetic field less than 200 Oe.

Diode Effect in the Medium with a Helical Magnetic Structure

The volt-ampere characteristics of a medium with helical magnetic structure are theoretically studied. Phenomenological and microscopic theories of a diode effect in such a medium are proposed. Diode effect appears only in the medium with noncoplanar magnetic structure. Two mechanisms for the diode effect are considered. They are electron energy spectrum asymmetry and electron scattering asymmetry.

Artificial helical nanomagnets

We demonstrate the existence of a helical state in patterned multilayer nanomagnets. The artificial helimagnets consist of a stack of single domain ferromagnetic disks separated by insulating nonmagnetic spacers. The spiral state is shown to originate from the magnetostatic interaction between nearest and next nearest neighbouring single-domain disks in the stack. Since the magnetostatic interaction for such disks is rather strong, the helical state should be stable at room temperature. The helimagnets were fabricated from a [Co/Si]*3 multilayer using electron beam lithography. The helical state was confirmed by a magnetic stray field analysis using magnetic force microscopy.

Commensurability effects in overlap Josephson junctions coupled with a magnetic dots array

Experimental observation of the strong influence of an array of ferromagnetic nanodots on the critical current of a short overlap Josephson junction is reported. Pronounced commensurability effects are detected due to the presence of the additional peaks in the magnetic field induced diffraction pattern. The changes in the Fraunhofer pattern of the Josephson junctions are account for by the formation of Abrikosov vortices trapped in the electrodes which induce a phase inhomogeneity in the junction area.

Magnetization reversal of ferromagnetic nanodisc placed above a superconductor

Using numerical simulation we have studied a magnetization distribution and a process of magnetization reversal in nanoscale magnets placed above a superconductor plane. In order to consider an influence of superconductor on magnetization distribution in the nanomagnet we have used London approximation. We have found that for usual values of London penetration depth the ground state magnetization is mostly unchanged. But at the same time the fields of vortex nucleation and annihilation change significantly: the interval where vortex is stable enlarges on 100-200 Oe for the particle above the superconductor. Such fields are experimentally observable so there is a possibility of some practical applications of this effect.

Superconductivity controlled by the magnetic state of ferromagnetic nanoparticles

Novel hybrid superconductor/ferromagnetic particles structures are presented. Arrays of Co submicron particles were fabricated on overlap, edge type Josephson junctions and on a narrow Nb microbridge by means of high-resolution e-beam lithography. We observed a strong dependence between the magnetic state of the particles and the field-dependent critical $I_c(H)$ of these structures.

Domain wall superconductivity in hybrid superconductor -- ferromagnetic structures

On the basis of phenomenological Ginzburg-Landau approach we investigate the problem of order parameter nucleation in hybrid superconductor/ferromagnetic systems with a domain structure in applied external magnetic field. Both the isolated domain boundaries and periodic domain structures in ferromagnetic layers are considered. We study the interplay between the superconductivity localized at the domain walls and far from the walls and show that such interplay determines a peculiar field dependence of the critical temperature Tc. For a periodic domain structure the behavior of the upper critical field of superconductivity nucleation near Tc is strongly influenced by the overlapping of the superconducting nuclei localized over different domains.

Interacting circular nanomagnets

Regular 2D rectangular lattices of permalloy nanoparticles (40 nm in diameter) were prepared by the method of the electron lithography. The magnetization curves were studied by Hall magnetometry with the compensation technique for different external field orientations at 4.2K and 77K. The shape of hysteresis curves indicates that there is magnetostatic interaction between the particles. The main peculiarity is the existence of remanent magnetization perpendicular to easy plain. By numerical simulation it is shown, that the character of the magnetization reversal is a result of the interplay of the interparticle interaction and the magnetization distribution within the particles (vortex or uniform).

A hysteresis model with dipole interaction: one more devil-staircase

Magnetic properties of 2D systems of magnetic nanoobjects (2D regular lattices of the magnetic nanoparticles or magnetic nanostripes) are considered. The analytical calculation of the hysteresis curve of the system with interaction between nanoobjects is provided. It is shown that during the magnetization reversal system passes through a number of metastable states. The kinetic problem of the magnetization reversal was solved for three models. The following results have been obtained. 1) For 1D system (T=0) with the long-range interaction with the energy proportional to $r^{-p}$, the staircase-like shape of the magnetization curve has self-similar character. The nature of the steps is determined by interplay of the interparticle interaction and coercivity of the single nanoparticle. 2) The influence of the thermal fluctuations on the kinetic process was examined in the framework of the nearest-neighbor interaction model. The thermal fluctuations lead to the additional splitting of the steps on the magnetization curve. 3) The magnetization curve for system with interaction and coercivity dispersion was calculated in mean field approximation. The simple method to experimentally distinguish the influence of interaction and coercivity dispersion on the magnetization curve is suggested.

Collective effects in the 2D lattices of the magnetic nanoparticles

The work is devoted to investigation of the collective behavior of the regular rectangular lattices of the NiFe nanoparticles caused by the dipole-dipole interaction between them. The samples was prepared by the method of the electron lithography and consist of about 100000 particles of approximately 50 nm size. The magnetization curves were investigated by the Hall magnetometry for the different orientation of the external magnetic field at 4.2K and 77K. The results points on the collective behavior of the system. The observed peculiarities we connect with the quasi-one-dimensional behavior of the system and the formation of the solitons in the system.
