Adaptive Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution

In theory, quantum key distribution (QKD) promises unconditional secure generation of the key between two remote participants, based on the laws of quantum physics. However, because of the imperfections in the real-life implementation of QKD, this promise fails. To fill the gap between the theory and implementation of QKD, different protocols have been proposed. One of them is measurement device independent (MDI) QKD, which can be implemented using present-day technology and generates a reasonable key rate. The protocol works perfectly fine for intracity communication. However, the transmission distance is not enough, so that it can replace intercity communication. For that, adaptive measurement device-independent (AMDI) QKD has been proposed. So, the present-day classical communication network such as the internet can be replaced with its quantum version. Till the date, AMDI-QKD has been implemented with threshold detectors. In this paper, we replaced threshold detectors with photon-number resolving detectors, thus making the protocol more realistic. We calculated the secret key rate for the case and discussed its dependence on transmission distance. We also discussed the dependence of the sifted key rate and quantum bit error rate (QBER) on the transmission distance.

Entanglement-assisted capacities of time-correlated amplitude-damping channel

We calculate the information capacities of a time-correlated amplitude-damping channel, provided the sender and receiver share prior entanglement. Our analytical results show that the noisy channel with zero capacity can transmit information if it has finite memory. The capacities increase as the memory increases attaining maximum value for perfect memory channel.

Quantum capacity of an amplitude-damping channel with memory

We calculate the quantum capacity of an amplitude-damping channel with time correlated Markov noise, for two channel uses. Our results show that memory of the channel increases it's ability to transmit quantum information significantly. We analyze and compare our findings with earlier numerical results on amplitude-damping channel with memory. An upper bound on the amount of quantum information transmitted over the channel in presence of memory, for an arbitrary number of channel uses is also presented.

Quantum Games and Quantum Discord

We quantize prisoners dilemma and chicken game by our generalized quantization scheme to explore the role of quantum discord in quantum games. In order to establish this connection we use Werner-like state as an initial state of the game. In this quantization scheme measurement can be performed in entangled as well as in product basis. For the measurement in entangled basis the dilemma in both the games can be resolved by separable states with non-zero quantum discord. Similarly for product basis measurement the payoffs are quantum mechanical only for nonzero values of quantum discord.

Evolutionarily Stable Strategies in Quantum Hawk-Dove Game

We quantized the Hawk-Dove game by using the most general form of a pure initial state to investigate the existence of pure and mixed Evolutionarily Stable Strategies (ESS). An example is considered to draw a comparison between classical and quantum version of the game. Our choice of most general initial quantum state enables us to make the game symmetric or asymmetric. We show that for a particular set of game parameters where there exist only mixed ESS in the classical version of the game, however, quantization allows even a pure strategy to be an ESS for symmetric game in addition to ixed ESS. On the other hand only pure strategy ESS can exist for asymmetric quantum version of the Hawk-Dove game.

Channel Capacities of an Exactly Solvable Spin-Star System

We calculate the entanglement-assisted and unassisted channel capacities of an exactly solvable spin star system, which models the quantum dephasing channel. The capacities for this non-Markovian model exhibit a strong dependence on the coupling strengths of the bath spins with the system, the bath temperature, and the number of bath spins. For equal couplings and bath frequencies, the channel becomes periodically noiseless.

The effect of quantum memory on quantum games

We study quantum games with correlated noise through a generalized quantization scheme. We investigate the effects of memory on quantum games, such as Prisoner's Dilemma, Battle of the Sexes and Chicken, through three prototype quantum-correlated channels. It is shown that the quantum player enjoys an advantage over the classical player for all nine cases considered in this paper for the maximally entangled case. However, the quantum player can also outperform the classical player for subsequent cases that can be noted in the case of the Battle of the Sexes game. It can be seen that the Nash equilibria do not change for all the three games under the effect of memory.

Quantum Games with Correlated Noise

We analyze quantum game with correlated noise through generalized quantization scheme. Four different combinations on the basis of entanglement of initial quantum state and the measurement basis are analyzed. It is shown that the advantage that a quantum player can get by exploiting quantum strategies is only valid when both the initial quantum state and the measurement basis are in entangled form. Furthermore, it is shown that for maximum correlation the effects of decoherence diminish and it behaves as a noiseless game.

Entanlement-Assisted Classical Capacity of Quantum Channels with Correlated Noise

We calculate the entanglement-assisted classical capacity of symmetric and asymmetric Pauli channels where two consecutive uses of the channels are correlated. It is evident from our study that in the presence of memory, a higher amount of classical information is transmitted over quantum channels if there exists prior entanglement as compared to product and entangled state coding.

The Role of Measurement in Quantum Games

The game of Prisoner Dilemma is analyzed to study the role of measurement basis in quantum games. Four different types of payoffs for quantum games are identified on the basis of different combinations of initial state and measurement basis. A relation among these different payoffs is established.

Generalized Quantization Scheme for Two-Person Non-Zero-Sum Games

We have proposed a generalized quantization scheme for non-zero sum games which can be reduced to two existing quantization schemes under appropriate set of parameters. Some other important situations are identified which are not apparent in the exiting two quantizations schemes.

Stability of mixed Nash equilibria in symmetric quantum games

In bi-matrix games the Bishop-Cannings theorem of the classical evolutionary game theory does not permit pure evolutionarily stable strategies (ESSs) when a mixed ESS exists. We find the necessary form of two-qubit initial quantum states when a switch-over to a quantum version of the game also changes the evolutionary stability of a mixed symmetric Nash equilibrium.

Equilibria of Replicator Dynamics in Quantum Games

An evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS) was originally defined as a static concept but later given a dynamic characterization. A well known theorem in evolutionary game theory says that an ESS is an attractor of replicator dynamics but not every attractor is an ESS. We search for a dynamic characterization of ESSs in quantum games and find that in certain asymmetric bi-matrix games evolutionary stability of attractors can change as the game switches between its two forms, one classical and the other quantum.

Dilemma and Quantum Battle of Sexes

We analysed quantum version of the game battle of sexes using a general initial quantum state. For a particular choice of initial entangled quantum state it is shown that the classical dilemma of the battle of sexes can be resolved and a unique solution of the game can be obtained.

Quantum repeated games

In a two-stage repeated classical game of prisoners' dilemma the knowledge that both players will defect in the second stage makes the players to defect in the first stage as well. We find a quantum version of this repeated game where the players decide to cooperate in the first stage while knowing that both will defect in the second.

Backwards-induction outcome in a quantum game

In economics duopoly is a market dominated by two firms large enough to influence the market price. Stackelberg presented a dynamic form of duopoly that is also called `leader-follower' model. We give a quantum perspective on Stackelberg duopoly that gives a backwards-induction outcome same as the Nash equilibrium in static form of duopoly also known as Cournot's duopoly. We find two qubit quantum pure states required for this purpose.

Darwinism in quantum systems?

We investigate the role of quantum mechanical effects in the central stability concept of evolutionary game theory i.e. an Evolutionarily Stable Strategy (ESS). Using two and three-player symmetric quantum games we show how the presence of quantum phenomenon of entanglement can be crucial to decide the course of evolutionary dynamics in a population of interacting individuals.

Quantum Cooperative Games

We study two forms of a symmetric cooperative game played by three players, one classical and other quantum. In its classical form making a coalition gives advantage to players and they are motivated to do so. However in its quantum form the advantage is lost and players are left with no motivation to make a coalition.
