On the Problem of Radiation Friction Beyond 4 and 6 Dimensions

We count the number of independent structures which can arise in expressions for radiation friction force in different even space-time dimensions and demonstrate that their number is too big at d\geq 8 to allow determination of this force from the transversality condition alone, as was done by B.Kosyakov in 6d. This implies that in general one can not bypass a tedious calculation involving explicit regularization and evaluation of emerging counterterms. However, simple Kosyakov's method works nicely in any dimension for the special case of circular motion with constant angular velocity.

WDVV equations for 6d Seiberg-Witten theory and bi-elliptic curves

We present a generic derivation of the WDVV equations for 6d Seiberg-Witten theory, and extend it to the families of bi-elliptic spectral curves. We find that the elliptization of the naive perturbative and nonperturbative 6d systems roughly "doubles" the number of moduli describing the system.

A-infinity structure on simplicial complexes

A discrete (finite-difference) analogue of differential forms is considered, defined on simplicial complexes, including triangulations of continuous manifolds. Various operations are explicitly defined on these forms, including exterior derivative and exterior product. The latter one is non-associative. Instead, as anticipated, it is a part of non-trivial A-infinity structure, involving a chain of poly-linear operations, constrained by nilpotency relation: (d + \wedge + m + ...)^n = 0 with n=2.

If LHC is a Mini-Time-Machines Factory, Can We Notice?

Assuming the hypothesis of TeV-scale multi-dimensional gravity, one can imagine that at LHC not only mini-black-holes (MBH) will be intensively created, but also other exotic gravitational configurations, including hypothetical mini-time-machines (MTM). Like MBH, they should quickly evaporate, but one can wonder if their temporal existence at the moment of high-energy collision can leave any traces in the observable data. We briefly discuss five thinkable effects: (i) change of the energy spectrum due to the frequency-filtration property of MTM, (ii) possible production of anomalously energetic particles, accelerated by passing many times through gravitational field inside the MTM, (iii) acceleration of particle decays, since the proper time of a particle moving inside MTM can strongly exceed the laboratory time, (iv) CPT and naive unitarity violation (thermalization) due to effective non-local interactions caused by MTM and to possible ambiguity in the population of closed world-lines inside MTM, (v) collective effects due to conversion of a single particle into a bunch of its co-existing copies within the MTM. Despite possible particle-antiparticle conversion inside MTM, they do not seem to produce any specific CP-violation effects.

Higher Nilpotent Analogues of A-infinity Structure

Higher nilpotent analogues of the $A-\infty$-structure are explicitly defined on arbitrary simplicial complexes, generalizing explicit construction of /hep-th/0704.2609. These structures are associated with the higher nilpotent differential $d_n$, satisfying $d_n^n =0$, which is naturally defined on triangulated manifolds (tetrahedral lattices). The deformation $D_n = (I + ε_n) d_n (I + ε_n)^{-1}$ is defined with the help of the $n$-versions of discrete exterior product $\wedge_n$ and the $K_n$-operator.

On n-point Amplitudes in N=4 SYM

The computation of n-point planar amplitudes in N=4 SYM at strong coupling is known to be reduced to the search for solutions of the integrable 2d SO(4,2) sigma-model with growing asymptotics on the world-sheet and to the study of their Whitham deformations induced by an epsilon-regularization, which breaks both integrability and SO(4,2) symmetry. A multi-parameter (moduli) family of such solutions is constructed for n=4. They all correspond to the same s and t and some are related by SO(4,2) transformations. Nevertheless, they lead to different regularized areas, whose minimum is the Alday-Maldacena solution. A brief review of results on n-point amplitudes is also provided, with special emphasis on the underlying equivalence of the above regularized minimal area in AdS and a double contour integral along the same boundary, two purely geometric quantities.

Non-Linear Algebra and Bogolubov's Recursion

Numerous examples are given of application of Bogolubov's forest formula to iterative solutions of various non-linear equations: one and the same formula describes everything, from ordinary quadratic equation to renormalization in quantum field theory.

Radiation Beyond Four Space-Time Dimensions

We present a list of formulas describing classical radiation of the rank s tensor field from an accelerated point-like source in flat space-time of arbitrary even dimension d. This allows straightforward evaluating the total intensity and radiated momentum for any $s$ and $d$ algorithmically, by hands or with the help of a computer (e.g. with an attached MAPLE program). Practical application of formulas is limited, because, for s>1, the energy-momentum tensor for the point-like source is not conserved. This usually means that one cannot neglect contributions to radiation from tensions of the forces that cause acceleration of the source.

On the shapes of elementary domains or why Mandelbrot Set is made from almost ideal circles?

Direct look at the celebrated "chaotic" Mandelbrot Set in Fig..\ref{Mand2} immediately reveals that it is a collection of almost ideal circles and cardioids, unified in a specific {\it forest} structure. In /hep-th/9501235 a systematic algebro-geometric approach was developed to the study of generic Mandelbrot sets, but emergency of nearly ideal circles in the special case of the family $x^2+c$ was not fully explained. In the present paper the shape of the elementary constituents of Mandelbrot Set is explicitly {\it calculated}, and difference between the shapes of {\it root} and {\it descendant} domains (cardioids and circles respectively) is explained. Such qualitative difference persists for all other Mandelbrot sets: descendant domains always have one less cusp than the root ones. Details of the phase transition between different Mandelbrot sets are explicitly demonstrated, including overlaps between elementary domains and dynamics of attraction/repulsion regions. Explicit examples of 3-dimensional sections of Universal Mandelbrot Set are given. Also a systematic small-size approximation is developed for evaluation of various Feigenbaum indices.

Is Strong Gravitational Radiation predicted by TeV-Gravity?

In TeV-gravity models the gravitational coupling to particles with energies E\sim m_{Pl} \sim 10 TeV is not suppressed by powers of ultra-small ratio E/M_{Pl} with M_{Pl} \sim 10^{19} GeV. Therefore one could imagine strong synchrotron radiation of gravitons by the accelerating particles to become the most pronounced manifestation of TeV-gravity at LHC. However, this turns out to be not true: considerable damping continues to exist, only the place of E/M_{Pl} it taken by a power of a ratio θω/E, where the typical frequency ωof emitted radiation, while increased by a number of γ-factors, can not reach E/\vartheta unless particles are accelerated by nearly critical fields. Moreover, for currently available magnetic fields B \sim 10 Tesla, multi-dimensionality does not enhance gravitational radiation at all even if TeV-gravity is correct.

Instantons and Merons in Matrix Models

Various branches of matrix model partition function can be represented as intertwined products of universal elementary constituents: Gaussian partition functions Z_G and Kontsevich tau-functions Z_K. In physical terms, this decomposition is the matrix-model version of multi-instanton and multi-meron configurations in Yang-Mills theories. Technically, decomposition formulas are related to representation theory of algebras of Krichever-Novikov type on families of spectral curves with additional Seiberg-Witten structure. Representations of these algebras are encoded in terms of "the global partition functions". They interpolate between Z_G and Z_K associated with different singularities on spectral Riemann surfaces. This construction is nothing but M-theory-like unification of various matrix models with explicit and representative realization of dualities.

M-Theory of Matrix Models

Small M-theories unify various models of a given family in the same way as the M-theory unifies a variety of superstring models. We consider this idea in application to the family of eigenvalue matrix models: their M-theory unifies various branches of Hermitean matrix model (including Dijkgraaf-Vafa partition functions) with Kontsevich tau-function. Moreover, the corresponding duality relations look like direct analogues of instanton and meron decompositions, familiar from Yang-Mills theory.

A Solvable Sector of AdS Theory

Field theory in space-time with boundary has an interesting sub-sector, where propagator is difference of those with Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions. Such boundary-induced theory in the bulk is essentially holomorphic and is exactly solvable in the sense that all orders of perturbation theory can be summed up explicitly into effective non-local theory at the boundary. This provides a non-trivial realization of holography principle. In the particular example of scalar fields of dimensions Δ_\pm = (d\pm 1)/2 in AdS_{d+1} the corresponding effective conformal theory has propagators |\vec p |^{-1} and vertices (|\vec p_1| + ... + |\vec p_n|)^{-s_n} of valence n in momentum representation, with s_n = (n-2)Δ_- - 1. This extraordinary simplicity of certain amplitudes in AdS seems inspiring and can be helpful for analyzing corollaries of open-closed string duality for particular field-theory sub-sectors of string theory.

Comment on the Surface Exponential for Tensor Fields

Starting from essentially commutative exponential map $E(B|I)$ for generic tensor-valued 2-forms $B$, introduced in \cite{Akh} as direct generalization of the ordinary non-commutative $P$-exponent for 1-forms with values in matrices (i.e. in tensors of rank 2), we suggest a non-trivial but multi-parametric exponential ${\cal E}(B|I|t_γ)$, which can serve as an interesting multi-directional evolution operator in the case of higher ranks. To emphasize the most important aspects of the story, construction is restricted to backgrounds $I_{ijk}$, associated with the structure constants of {\it commutative} associative algebras, what makes it unsensitive to topology of the 2d surface. Boundary effects are also eliminated (straightfoward generalization is needed to incorporate them).

Algebraic Geometry of Discrete Dynamics. The case of one variable

We argue that discrete dynamics has natural links to the theory of analytic functions. Most important, bifurcations and chaotic dynamical properties are related to intersections of algebraic varieties. This paves the way to identification of boundaries of Mandelbrot sets with discriminant varieties in moduli spaces, which are the central objects in the worlds of chaos and order (integrability) respectively. To understand and exploit this relation one needs first to develop the theory of discrete dynamics as a solid branch of algebraic geometry, which so far did not pay enough attention to iterated maps. The basic object to study in this context is Julia sheaf over the universal Mandelbrot set. The base has a charateristic combinatorial structure, which can be revealed by resultant analysis and represented by a basic graph. Sections (Julia sets) are contractions of a unit disc, related to the action of Abelian $\bb{Z}$ group on the unit circle. Their singularities (bifurcations) are located at the points of the universal discriminant variety.

On the Need for Phenomenological Theory of P-Vortices or Does Spaghetti Confinement Pattern Admit Condensed-Matter Analogies?

Usually the intuition from condensed-matter physics is used to provide ideas for possible confinement mechanisms in gauge theories. Today, with a clear but puzzling ``spaghetti'' confinement pattern, arising after a decade of lattice computer experiments, which implies formation of a fluctuating net of peculiar magnetic vortices rather than condensation of the homogeneously distributed magnetic monopoles, the time is coming to reverse the logic and search for similar patterns in condensed matter systems. The main thing to look for in a condensed matter setup is the simultaneous existence of narrow tubes ($P$-vortices or 1-branes) of direction-changing electric field and broader tubes (Abrikosov lines) of magnetic field, a pattern dual to the one, presumably underlying confinement in gluodynamics. As a possible place for this search we suggest systems with coexisting charge-density waves and superconductivity.

Unitary matrix integrals in the framework of Generalized Kontsevich Model. I. Brezin-Gross-Witten Model

We advocate a new approach to the study of unitary matrix models in external fields which emphasizes their relationship to Generalized Kontsevich Models (GKM) with non-polynomial potentials. For example, we show that the partition function of the Brezin-Gross-Witten Model (BGWM), which is defined as an integral over unitary $N\times N$ matrices, $\int [dU] e^{\rm{Tr}(J^\dagger U + JU^\dagger)}$, can also be considered as a GKM with potential ${\cal V}(X) = \frac{1}{X}$. Moreover, it can be interpreted as the generating functional for correlators in the Penner model. The strong and weak coupling phases of the BGWM are identified with the "character" (weak coupling) and "Kontsevich" (strong coupling) phases of the GKM, respectively. This sort of GKM deserves classification as $p=-2$ one (i.e. $c=28$ or $c=-2$) when in the Kontsevich phase. This approach allows us to further identify the Harish-Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber (IZ) integral with a peculiar GKM, which arises in the study of $c=1$ theory and, further, with a conventional 2-matrix model which is rewritten in Miwa coordinates. Inspired by the considered unitary matrix models, some further extensions of the GKM treatment which are inspired by the unitary matrix models which we have considered are also developed. In particular, as a by-product, a new simple method of fixing the Ward identities for matrix models in an external field is presented.
