Baryon flow from SIS to AGS energies

We analyze the baryon sideward and elliptic flow from SIS (0.25 $\sim$ 2 A GeV) to AGS (2 $\sim 11.0A$GeV) energies for Au + Au collisions in the relativistic transport model RBUU that includes all baryon resonances up to a mass of 2 GeV as well as string degrees of freedom for the higher mass continuum. There are two factors which dominantly determine the baryon flow at these energies: the momentum dependence of the scalar and vector potentials and the resonance-string degrees of freedom. We fix the explicit momentum dependence of the nucleon-meson couplings within the NL3 parameter set by the nucleon optical potential up to 1 GeV of kinetic energy. When assuming the optical potential to vanish identically for $E_{kin} \geq 3.5$ GeV we simultaneously reproduce the sideward flow data of the FOPI, EOS, E895 and E877 collaborations, the elliptic flow data of the EOS, E895 and E877 collaborations, and approximately the rapidity and transverse mass distribution of protons at AGS energies. The gradual change from hadronic to string degrees of freedom with increasing bombarding energy can be viewed as a transition from {\it hadronic} to {\it string} matter, i.e. a dissolution of hadrons.

Study of relativistic nuclear collisions at AGS energies from p+Be to Au+Au with hadronic cascade model

A hadronic cascade model based on resonances and strings is used to study mass dependence of relativistic nuclear collisions from p+Be to Au+Au at AGS energies ($\sim 10\AGeV$) systematically. Hadron transverse momentum and rapidity distributions obtained with both cascade calculations and Glauber type calculations are compared with experimental data to perform detailed discussion about the importance of rescattering among hadrons. We find good agreement with the experimental data without any change of model parameters with the cascade model. It is found that rescattering is of importance both for the explanation of high transverse momentum tail and for the multiplicity of produced particles.

Can We Extract Lambda-Lambda Interaction from Two-Particle Momentum Correlation ?

We analyze the invariant mass spectrum of Lambda-Lambda in $^{12}C(K^-,K^+ Lambda Lambda)$ reaction at P(K^+)=1.65 GeV/c by using a combined framework of IntraNuclear Cascade (INC) model and the correlation function technique. The observed enhancement at low-invariant masses can be well reproduced with attractive Lambda-Lambda interactions with the scattering length either in the range a = -6 \sim -4 fm (no bound state) or a = 7 \sim 12 fm (with bound state). We also discuss Lambda-Lambda correlation functions in central relativistic heavy-ion collisions as a possible way to eliminate this discrete ambiguity.

Quantum fluctuation effects on hyperfragment formation from Xi^- absorption at rest on 12C

Formation mechanisms of single, twin, and double hypernuclei from Xi^- absorption at rest on 12C are investigated with an refined microscopic transport model, that incorporates the recently developed Quantal Langevin treatment into Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics. The quantum fluctuations suppress the formation probability of double hyperfragments to around 10%, which is comparable to the experimental data, and the dynamical formation of twin hyperfragment can be described qualitatively.

Branching ratio change in K- absorption at rest and the nature of the Lambda(1405)

We investigate in-medium corrections to the branching ratio in K- absorption at rest and their effect on the (positively and negatively) charged pion spectrum. The in-medium corrections are due to Pauli blocking, which arises if the Lambda(1405) is assumed to be a $\bar{K}$-nucleon bound state and leads to a density and momentum dependent mass shift of the Lambda(1405). Requiring that the optical potential as well as the branching ratio are derived from the same elementary T-matrix, we find that the in-medium corrected, density dependent T-matrix gives a better description of the K- absorption reaction than the free, density-independent one. This result suggests that the dominant component of the Lambda(1405) wave function is the $\bar{K}N$ bound state.

Quantum Fluctuations Affect the Critical Properties of Noble Gases

Interacting argon atoms are simulated with a recently developed quantum Langevin transport treatment that takes approximate account of the quantum fluctuations inherent in microscopic many-body descriptions based on wave packets. The mass distribution of the atomic clusters is affected significantly near the critical temperature and thus it may be important to take account of quantum fluctuations in molecular-dynamics simulations of cluster formation processes.

Quantum Fluctuation Effects on Nuclear Fragment Formation

Multifragmentation in Au+Au collisions is investigated at incident energies in the range 100-400 MeV per nucleon by means of a recently developed quantal Langevin model. The inclusion of quantum fluctuations enhances the average multiplicity of intermediate mass fragments, especially in central collisions. This is mainly because the excitation energies of fragments are reduced due to the quantal behavior of intrinsic specific heat.

K^+ momentum spectrum from (K^-,K^+) reactions in intranuclear cascade model

In a framework of intranuclear cascade (INC) type calculation, we study a momentum spectrum in reactions \KK at a beam momentum of 1.65 GeV/c. INC model calculations are compared with the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) calculations to perform the detailed study of the reaction mechanism. We find that the INC model can reproduce the experimental data on various targets. Especially, in the low-momentum region, the forward-angle cross sections of the $(K^-,K^+)$ reaction on from light to heavy targets are consistently explained with the two-step strangeness exchange and production processes with various intermediate mesons, and $ϕ$, $a_0$ and $f_0$ productions and their decay into $K^+K^-$. In the two-step processes, inclusion of meson and hyperon resonances is found to be essential.

Inclusion of Quantum Fluctuations in Wave Packet Dynamics

We discuss a method by which quantum fluctuations can be included in microscopic transport models based on wave packets that are not energy eigenstates. By including the next-to-leading order term in the cumulant expansion of the statistical weight, which corresponds to the wave packets having Poisson energy distributions, we obtain a much improved global description of the quantum statistical properties of the many-body system. In the case of atomic nuclei, exemplified by 12C and 40Ca, the standard liquid-drop results are reproduced at low temperatures and a phase transformation to a fragment gas occurs as the temperature is raised. The treatment can be extended to dynamical scenarios by means of a Langevin force emulating the transitions between the wave packets. The general form of the associated transport coefficients is derived and it is shown that the appropriate microcanonical equilibrium distribution is achieved in the course of the time evolution. Finally, invoking Fermi's golden rule, we derive specific expressions for the transport coefficients and verify that they satisfy the fluctuation-dissipation theorem.

Antisymmetrization of a Mean Field Calculation of the T-Matrix

The usual definition of the prior(post) interaction $V(V^\prime )$ between projectile and target (resp. ejectile and residual target) being contradictory with full antisymmetrization between nucleons, an explicit antisymmetrization projector ${\cal A}$ must be included in the definition of the transition operator, $ T\equiv V^\prime{\cal A}+V^\prime{\cal A}GV. $ We derive the suitably antisymmetrized mean field equations leading to a non perturbative estimate of $T$. The theory is illustrated by a calculation of forward $α$-$α$ scattering, making use of self consistent symmetries.

Momentum distribution of fragments in heavy ion reactions: Dependence on the stochastic collision process

Momentum distribution of fragments produced in 12C+12C reaction at 28.7 MeV/nucleon is analyzed with antisymmetrized version of molecular dynamics (AMD). Calculations are made for several cases of stochastic collisions and the projectile fragmentation peak in momentum distribution is reproduced by the incorporation of many-body nature in stochastic collision process. Furthermore the value of the cross section is found to be reflected in the low momentum part of fragments such as alpha particles and 9Be.
