Sharing of Non-Local Advantage of Quantum Coherence by sequential observers

Non-local Advantage of Quantum Coherence(NAQC) or steerability of local quantum coherence is a strong non-local resource based on coherence complementarity relations. In this work, we provide an upper bound on the number of observers who can independently steer the coherence of the observer in the other wing in a scenario where half of an entangled pair of spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles is shared between a single observer (Bob) in one wing and several observers (Alices) on the other, who can act sequentially and independently of each other. We consider one-parameter dichotomic POVMs for the Alices and mutually unbiased basis in which Bob measures coherence in case of the maximally entangled bipartite qubit state. We show that not more than two Alices can exhibit NAQC when $l_1$-norm of coherence measure is probed, whereas for two other measures of coherence, only one Alice can reveal NAQC within the same framework.

Operational characterization of quantumness of unsteerable bipartite states

Recently, the quantumness of local correlations arising from separable states in the context of a Bell scenario has been studied and linked with superlocality [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 95}, 032120 (2017)]. Here we investigate the quantumness of unsteerable correlations in the context of a given steering scenario. Generalizing the concept of superlocality, we define as \textit{super-correlation}, the requirement for a larger dimension of the preshared randomness to simulate the correlations than that of the quantum states that generate them. Since unsteerable states form a subset of Bell local states, it is an interesting question whether certain unsteerable states can be super-correlated. Here, we answer this question in the affirmative. In particular, the quantumness of certain unsteerable correlations can be pointed out by the notion of \textit{super-unsteerability}, the requirement for a larger dimension of the classical variable that the steering party has to preshare with the trusted party for simulating the correlations than that of the quantum states which reproduce them. This provides a generalized approach to quantify the quantumness of unsteerable correlations in convex operational theories.

Cost of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in the context of extremal boxes

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering is a form of quantum nonlocality which is weaker than Bell nonlocality, but stronger than entanglement. Here we present a method to check Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering in the scenario where the steering party performs two black-box measurements and the trusted party performs projective qubit measurements corresponding to two arbitrary mutually unbiased bases. This method is based on decomposing the measurement correlations in terms of extremal boxes of the steering scenario. In this context, we propose a measure of steerability called steering cost. We show that our steering cost is a convex steering monotone. We illustrate our method to check steerability with two families of measurement correlations and find out their steering cost.

Necessary and sufficient state condition for two-qubit steering using two measurement settings per party and monogamy of steering

We consider the Cavalcanti-Foster-Fuwa-Wiseman inequality~\cite{achsh} which is a necessary and sufficient steerability condition for two-qubit states with two measurement settings on each side. We derive the criterion which an arbitrary two-qubit state must satisfy in order to violate this inequality, and obtain its maximum attainable violation in quantum mechanics. The derived condition on the state parameters enables us to establish a tight monogamy relation for two-qubit steering.

Tighter Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering inequality based on the sum uncertainty relation

We consider the uncertainty bound on the sum of variances of two incompatible observables in order to derive a corresponding steering inequality. Our steering criterion when applied to discrete variables yields the optimum steering range for two qubit Werner states in the two measurement and two outcome scenario. We further employ the derived steering relation for several classes of continuous variable systems. We show that non-Gaussian entangled states such as the photon subtracted squeezed vacuum state and the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator state furnish greater violation of the sum steering relation compared to the Reid criterion as well as the entropic steering criterion. The sum steering inequality provides a tighter steering condition to reveal the steerability of continuous variable states.

Bipartite qutrit local realist inequalities and the robustness of their quantum mechanical violation

Distinct from the type of local realist inequality (known as the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu or CGLMP inequality) usually used for bipartite qutrit systems, we formulate a new set of local realist inequalities for bipartite qutrits by generalizing Wigner's argument that was originally formulated for the bipartite qubit singlet state. This treatment assumes existence of the overall joint probability distributions in the underlying stochastic hidden variable space for the measurement outcomes pertaining to the relevant trichotomic observables, satisfying the locality condition and yielding the measurable marginal probabilities. Such generalized Wigner inequalities (GWI) do not reduce to Bell-CHSH type inequalities by clubbing any two outcomes, and are violated by quantum mechanics (QM) for both the bipartite qutrit isotropic and singlet states using trichotomic observables defined by six-port beam splitter as well as by the spin-$1$ component observables. The efficacy of GWI is then probed in these cases by comparing the QM violation of GWI with that obtained for the CGLMP inequality. This comparison is done by incorporating white noise in the singlet and isotropic qutrit states. It is found that for the six-port beam splitter observables, QM violation of GWI is more robust than that of the CGLMP inequality for singlet qutrit states, while for isotropic qutrit states, QM violation of the CGLMP inequality is more robust. On the other hand, for the spin-$1$ component observables, QM violation of GWI is more robust for both the type of states considered.

Preservation of quantum coherence under Lorentz boost for narrow uncertainty wave packets

We consider the effect of relativistic boosts on single particle Gaussian wave packets. The coherence of the wave function as measured by the boosted observer is studied as a function of the momentum and the boost parameter. Using various formulations of coherence it is shown that in general the coherence decays with the increase of the momentum of the state, as well as the boost applied to it. Employing a basis-independent formulation, we show however, that coherence may be preserved even for large boosts applied on narrow uncertainty wave packets. Our result is exemplified quantitatively for practically realizable neutron wave functions.

Future evolution in a backreaction model and the analogous scalar field cosmology

We investigate the future evolution of the universe using the Buchert framework for averaged backreaction in the context of a two-domain partition of the universe. We show that this approach allows for the possibility of the global acceleration vanishing at a finite future time, provided that none of the subdomains accelerate individually. The model at large scales is analogously described in terms of a homogeneous scalar field emerging with a potential that is fixed and free from phenomenological parametrization. The dynamics of this scalar field is explored in the analogous FLRW cosmology. We use observational data from Type Ia Supernovae, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations, and Cosmic Microwave Background to constrain the parameters of the model for a viable cosmology, providing the corresponding likelihood contours.

Lower bound of quantum uncertainty from extractable classical information

The sum of entropic uncertainties for the measurement of two non-commuting observables is not always reduced by the amount of entanglement (quantum memory) between two parties, and in certain cases may be impacted by quantum correlations beyond entanglement (discord). An optimal lower bound of entropic uncertainty in the presence of any correlations may be determined by fine-graining. Here we express the uncertainty relation in a new form where the maximum possible reduction of uncertainty is shown to be given by the extractable classical information. We show that the lower bound of uncertainty matches with that using fine-graining for several examples of two-qubit pure and mixed entangled states, and also separable states with non-vanishing discord. Using our uncertainty relation we further show that even in the absence of any quantum correlations between the two parties, the sum of uncertainties may be reduced with the help of classical correlations.

Sharing of Nonlocality of a single member of an Entangled Pair Is Not Possible by More Than Two Unbiased Observers on the other wing

We address the recently posed question as to whether the nonlocality of a single member of an entangled pair of spin $1/2$ particles can be shared among multiple observers on the other wing who act sequentially and independently of each other [1]. We first show that the optimality condition for the trade-off between information gain and disturbance in the context of weak or non-ideal measurements emerges naturally when one employs a one-parameter class of positive operator valued measures (POVMs). Using this formalism we then prove analytically that it is impossible to obtain violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality by more than two Bobs in one of the two wings using unbiased input settings with an Alice in the other wing.

A cloned qutrit and its utility in information processing tasks

We, in this paper, analyze the efficacy of an output as a resource from a universal quantum cloning machine in information processing tasks such as teleportation and dense coding. For this, we have considered the $3\otimes 3$ dimensional system (or qutrit system). The output states are found to be NPT states for certain ranges of machine parameters. Using the output state as an entangled resource, we have also studied the optimal fidelities of teleportation and capacities of dense coding protocols with respect to the machine parameters and have made a few interesting observations. Our work is mainly motivated from the fact that the cloning output can be used as a resource in quantum information processing and adds a valuable dimension to the applications of cloning machines.

Preservation of quantum key rate in the presence of decoherence

It is well known that the interaction of quantum systems with the environment reduces the inherent quantum correlations. Under special circumstances the effect of decoherence can be reversed, for example, the interaction modeled by an amplitude damping channel can boost the teleportation fidelity from the classical to the quantum region for a bipartite quantum state. Here, we first show that this phenomena fails in the case of a quantum key distribution protocol. We further show that the technique of weak measurement can be used to slow down the process of decoherence, thereby helping to preserve the quantum key rate when one or both systems are interacting with the environment via an amplitude damping channel. Most interestingly, in certain cases weak measurement with post-selection where one considers both success and failure of the technique is shown to be more useful than without it when both systems interact with the environment.

An analytical condition for the violation of Mermin's inequality by any three qubit state

Mermin's inequality is the generalization of the Bell-CHSH inequality for three qubit states. The violation of the Mermin inequality guarantees the fact that there exists quantum non-locality either between two or three qubits in a three qubit system. In the absence of an analytical result to this effect, in order to check for the violation of Mermin's inequality one has to perform a numerical optimization procedure for even three qubit pure states. Here we derive an analytical formula for the maximum value of the expectation of the Mermin operator in terms of eigenvalues of symmetric matrices, that gives the maximal violation of the Mermin inequality for all three qubit pure and mixed states.

Effect of quantum statistics on the gravitational weak equivalence principle

We study the effect of quantum statistics on the arrival time distribution of quantum particles computed through the probability current density. It is shown that symmetrization or asymmetrization of the wave function affects the arrival time distribution for even freely propagating particles. In order to investigate the effect of statistics on the weak equivalence principle in quantum mechanics (WEQ), we then compute the mean arrival time for wave packets in free fall. The violation of WEQ through the effect of statistics on the mass-dependence of the mean arrival time is clearly exhibited. We finally evaluate the effect of spin on the violation of WEQ using a different approach by including an explicit spin-dependence in the probability current distribution, and compare it with the approach using particle statistics. Our results show WEQ re-emerges smoothly in the limit of large mass.

Emergent Universe with Interacting fluids and Generalized Second Law of Thermodynamics

We investigate the emergent universe scenario in the presence of interacting fluids. The non-linear equation of state (EoS) considered in the general theory of relativity for obtaining emergent universe is effectively a cosmological model with a composition of three fluids. In this paper we consider two models to realize viable cosmological scenarios, {\it viz.}, (i) a two-fluid model with interaction of a pressureless fluid with the fluid having the non-linear EoS needed for the emergent universe, and (ii) a three-fluid model with interaction among the three fluids which originate from the EoS of the emergent universe. It is found that realistic cosmological models in accordance with observations are not ruled out for both the above cases. We further show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics is found to hold good in the emergent universe with interacting fluids.

Measurement incompatibility and Channel Steering

Incompatible measurements in quantum theory always lead to Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR)-Schrödinger steering. Channel steering which is a generalized notion of EPR-Schrödinger steering, has been introduced recently. Here we establish a connection between lack of joint measureability and channel steering.

Towards secure communication using intra-particle entanglement

We explore the use of the resource of intra-particle entanglement for secure quantum key distribution in the device-independent scenario. By virtue of the local nature of such entanglement, Bell tests must be implemented locally, which leads to a natural decoupling of device errors from channel errors. We consider a side channel attack on the sender's state preparation device, for which the intra-particle-entanglement based scheme is shown to be more secure than the one that uses separable states. Of practical relevance is the fact that such entanglement can be easily generated using linear optics.

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-steering using quantum correlations in non-Gaussian entangled states

In view of the increasing importance of non-Gaussian entangled states in quantum information protocols like teleportation and violations of Bell inequalities, the steering of continuous variable non-Gaussian entangled states is investigated. The EPR steering for Gaussian states may be demonstrated through the violation of the Reid inequality involving products of the inferred variances of non-commuting observables. However, for arbitrary states the Reid inequality is not always necessary because of the higher order correlations in such states. One then needs to use the entropic steering inequality. We examine several classes of currently important non-Gaussian entangled states, such as the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator, the photon subtracted two mode squeezed vacuum, and the NOON state, in order to demonstrate the steering property of such states. A comparative study of the violation of the Bell-inequality for these states shows that the entanglement present is more easily revealed through steering compared to Bell-violation for several such states.
