Charged scalar quasi-normal modes for linearly charged dilaton-Lifshitz solutions

Most available studies of quasi-normal modes for Lifshitz black solutions are limited to the neutral scalar perturbations. In this paper, we investigate the wave dynamics of massive charged scalar perturbation in the background of $(3+1)$-dimensional charged dilaton Lifshitz black branes/holes. We disclose the dependence of the quasi-normal modes on the model parameters, such as the Lifshitz exponent $z$, the mass and charge of the scalar perturbation field and the charge of the Lifshitz configuration. In contrast with neutral perturbations, we observe the possibility to destroy the original Lifshitz background near the extreme value of charge where the temperature is low. We find out that when the Lifshitz exponent deviates more from unity, it is more difficult to break the stability of the configuration. We also study the behavior of the real part of the quasi-normal frequencies. Unlike the neutral scalar perturbation around uncharged black branes where an overdamping was observed to start at $z=2$ and independent of the value of scalar mass, our observation discloses that the overdamping starting point is no longer at $z=2$ and depends on the mass of scalar field for charged Lifshitz black branes. For charged scalar perturbations, fixing $m_s$, the asymptotic value of $ω_R$ for high $z$ is more away from zero when the charge of scalar perturbation $q_s$ increases. There does not appear the overdamping.

Ghost dark energy with sign-changeable interaction term

Regarding the Veneziano ghost of QCD and its generalized form, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a pressureless matter and a dark energy component interacting with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction of positive coupling constant. Our study shows that, at the late time, for the deceleration parameter we have $q\rightarrow-1$, while the equation of state parameter of the interacting ghost dark energy (GDE) does not cross the phantom line, namely $ω_D\geq-1$. We also extend our study to the generalized ghost dark energy (GGDE) model and show that, at late time, the equation of state parameter of the interacting GGDE also respects the phantom line in both flat and non-flat universes. Moreover, we find out that, unlike the non-flat universe, we have $q\rightarrow-1$ at late time for flat FRW universe. In order to make the behavior of the underlying models more clear, the deceleration parameter $q$ as well as the equation of state parameter $w_D$ for flat and closed universes have been plotted against the redshift parameter, $z$. All of the studied cases admit a transition in the expansion history of universe from a deceleration phase to an accelerated one around $z\approx 0.6$

Dilatonic BTZ black holes with power-law field

Motivated by low energy effective action of string theory and large applications of BTZ black holes, we will consider minimal coupling between dilaton and nonlinear electromagnetic fields in three dimensions. The main goal is studying thermodynamical structure of black holes in this set up. Temperature and heat capacity of these black holes are investigated and a picture regarding their phase transitions is given. In addition, the role and importance of studying the mass of black holes is highlighted. We will see how different parameters modify thermodynamical quantities, hence thermodynamical structure of these black holes. In addition, geometrical thermodynamics is used to investigate thermodynamical properties of these black holes. In this regard, the successful method is presented and the nature of interaction around bound and phase transition points is studied.

A note on holographic dark energy with varying $c^2$ term

We reconsider the holographic dark energy (HDE) model with a slowly time varying $ c^2(z)$ parameter in the energy density, namely $ρ_D=3M_p^2 c^2(z)/L^2$, where $L$ is the IR cutoff and $z$ is the redshift parameter. As the system's IR cutoff we choose the Hubble radius and the Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoffs. The latter inspired by the Ricci scalar curvature. We derive the evolution of the cosmological parameters such as the equation of state and the deceleration parameters as the explicit functions of the redshift parameter $z$. Then, we plot the evolutions of these cosmological parameters in terms of the redshift parameter during the history of the universe. Interestingly enough, we observe that by choosing $L=H^{-1}$ as the IR cutoff for the HDE with time varying $ c ^2(z) $ term, the present acceleration of the universe expansion can be achieved, even in the absence of interaction between dark energy and dark matter. This is in contrast to the usual HDE model with constant $c^2$ term, which leads to a wrong equation of state, namely that for dust $w_D=0$, when the IR cutoff is chosen the Hubble radius.

Critical behavior of Born-Infeld dilaton black holes

We explore the critical behavior of (n+1)-dimensional topological Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes in an extended phase space. We treat the cosmological constant and the Born-Infeld (BI) parameter as the thermodynamic pressure and BI vacuum polarization which can vary. We obtain thermodynamic quantities of the system such as pressure, temperature, Gibbs free energy, and investigate the behaviour of these quantities. We also study the analogy of the van der Waals liquid-gas system with the Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes in canonical ensemble in which we can treat the black hole charge as a fixed external parameter. Moreover, we show that the critical values of pressure, temperature and volume are physical provided the coupling constant of dilaton gravity is less than one and the horizon is sphere. Finally, we calculate the critical xponents and show that although thermodynamic quantities depend on the dilaton oupling constant, BI parameter and the dimension of the spacetime, they are universal and are independent of metric parameters.

Counterterm method in dilaton gravity and the critical behavior of dilaton black holes with power-Maxwell field

We investigate the critical behavior of an $(n+1)$-dimensional topological dilaton black holes, in an extended phase space in both canonical and grand-canonical ensembles, when the gauge field is in the form of power-Maxwell field. In order to do this we introduce for the first time the counterterms that remove the divergences of the action in dilaton gravity for the solutions with curved boundary. Using the counterterm method, we calculate the conserved quantities and the action and therefore Gibbs free energy in both the canonical and grand-canonical ensembles. We treat the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure, and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume. In the presence of power-Maxwell field, we find an analogy between the topological dilaton black holes with van der Walls liquid-gas system in all dimensions provided the dilaton coupling constant $α$ and the power parameter $p$ are chosen properly. Interestingly enough, we observe that the power-Maxwell dilaton black holes admit the phase transition in both canonical and grand-canonical ensembles. This is in contrast to RN-AdS, Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton and Born-Infeld-dilaton black holes, which only admit the phase transition in the canonical ensemble. Besides, we calculate the critical quantities and show that they depend on $α$, $n$ and $p$. Finally, we obtain the critical exponents in two ensembles and show that they are independent of the model parameters and have the same values as mean field theory.

Holographic dark energy with the sign-changeable interaction term

We use three IR cutoffs, including the future event horizon, the Hubble and Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoffs, to construct three holographic models of dark energy. Additionally, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a dark matter (DM) and a dark energy that interact with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction. Thereinafter, we address the evolution of the some cosmological parameters, such as the equation of state and dimensionless density parameters of dark energy as well as the deceleration parameter, during the cosmic evolution from the matter dominated era until the late time acceleration. We observe that a holographic dark energy (HDE) model with Hubble cutoff interacting with DM may be in line with the current universe. Our study shows that models with the future event horizon as the IR cutoff or the GO cutoff are in good agreement with the observational data. In fact, we find out that these obtained models can predict the universe transition from a deceleration phase to the acceleration one in a compatible way with observations. The three obtained models may also allow the equation of state parameter to cross the phantom line, a result which depends on the values of the system's constants such as the value of the interaction coupling constant.

Thermodynamics, phase transitions and Ruppeiner geometry for Einstein-dilaton Lifshitz black holes in the presence of Maxwell and Born-Infeld electrodynamics

In this paper, we first obtain the ($n+1$)-dimensional dilaton-Lifshitz black hole (BH) solutions in the presence of Born-Infeld (BI) electrodynamics. We find that there are two different solutions for $z=n+1$ and $z\neq n+1$ cases ($z$ is dynamical critical exponent). We show that the thermodynamics first law is satisfied for both cases. Then, we turn to study different phase transitions (PTs) for our BHs. We start with study of Hawking-Page PT for both linearly and BI charged BHs. After that, we discuss the PTs inside the BHs. We present the improved Davies quantities and prove that the PT points shown by them coincide with Ruppeiner ones. We show that the zero temperature PTs are transitions on radiance properties of BHs by using Landau-Lifshitz theory. Next, we turn to study Ruppeiner geometry of linearly and BI charged BHs. For linearly charged case, we show that there are no PT at finite temperature for the case $z\geq 2$. For $z<2$, it is found that the number of finite temperature PT points depends on the value of BH charge and is not more than two. When we have two finite temperature PT points, there are no thermally stable BH between these two points and we have discontinues small/large BH PTs. As expected, for small BHs, we observe finite magnitude for Ruppeiner invariant which shows the finite correlation between possible BH molecules while for large BHs, the correlation is very small. Finally, we study the Ruppeiner geometry and thermal stability of BI charged Lifshtiz BHs for different values of $z$. We observe that small BHs are thermally unstable in some situations. Also, the behavior of correlation between possible BH molecules for large BHs is the same as linearly charged case. In both linearly and BI charged cases, for some choices of parameters, the BH systems behave like a Van der Waals gas near transition point.

The upper critical magnetic field of holographic superconductor with conformally invariant power-Maxwell electrodynamics

The properties of $(d-1)$-dimensional $s$-wave holographic superconductor in the presence of power-Maxwell field is explored. We study the probe limit in which the scalar and gauge fields do not backreact on the background geometry. Our study is based on the matching of solutions on the boundary and on the horizon at some intermediate point. At first, the case without external magnetic field is considered, and the critical temperature is obtained in terms of the charge density, the dimensionality, and the power-Maxwell exponent. Then, a magnetic field is turned on in the $d$-dimensional bulk which can influence the $(d-1)$-dimensional holographic superconductor at the boundary. The phase behavior of the corresponding holographic superconductor is obtained by computing the upper critical magnetic field in the presence of power-Maxwell electrodynamics, characterized by the power exponent $q$. Interestingly, it is observed that in the presence of magnetic field, the physically acceptable phase behavior of the holographic superconductor is obtained for $q={d}/{4}$, which guaranties the conformal invariance of the power-Maxwell Lagrangian. The case of physical interest in five spacetime dimensions ($d=5$, and $q=5/4$) is considered in detail, and compared with the results obtained for the usual Maxwell electrodynamics $q=1$ in the same dimensions.

Emergent Universe in the Braneworld Scenario

According to Padmanabhan's proposal, the difference between the surface degrees of freedom and the bulk degrees of freedom in a region of space may result in the acceleration of Universe expansion through the relation $ΔV/Δt = N_{\rm sur}-N_{\rm bulk}$ where $N_{\rm bulk}$ and $N_{\rm sur}$ are referred to the degrees of freedom related to the matter and energy content inside the bulk and surface area, respectively \cite{Pad1}. In this paper, we study the dynamical effect of the extrinsic geometrical embedding of an arbitrary four dimensional brane in a higher dimensional bulk space and investigate the corresponding degrees of freedom. Considering the modification of Friedmann equations arising from a general braneworld scenario, we obtain a correction term in Padmanabhan's relation, denoting the number of degrees of freedom related to the extrinsic geometry of the brane embedded in higher dimensional spacetime as $ΔV /Δt=N_{\rm sur}-N_{\rm bulk}-N_{\rm extr}$ where $N_{\rm extr}$ is referred to the degree of freedom related to the extrinsic geometry of the brane while $N_{\rm sur}$ and $N_{\rm bulk}$ are as well as before. Finally, we study the validity of the first and second laws of thermodynamics for this general braneworld scenario in the state of thermal equilibrium and in the presence of confined matter fields to the brane with the induced geometric matter fields.

From the Komar Mass and Entropic Force Scenarios to the Einstein Field Equations on the Ads Brane

By bearing the Komar's definition for the mass, together with the entropic origin of gravity in mind, we find the Einstein field equations in $(n+1$)-dimensional spacetime. Then, by reflecting the ($4+1$)-dimensional Einstein equations on the ($3+1$)-hypersurface, we get the Einstein equations onto the $3$-brane. The corresponding energy conditions are also addressed. Since the higher dimensional considerations modify the Einstein field equations in the ($3+1$)-dimensions and thus the energy-momentum tensor, we get a relation for the Komar mass on the brane. In addition, the strongness of this relation compared with existing definition for the Komar mass on the brane is addressed.

Holographic Conductivity for Logarithmic Charged Dilaton-Lifshitz Solutions

We disclose the effects of the logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics on the holographic conductivity of Lifshitz dilaton black holes/branes. We analyze thermodynamics of these solutions as a necessary requirement for applying gauge/gravity duality, by calculating conserved and thermodynamic quantities such as the temperature, entropy, electric potential and mass of the black holes/branes. We calculate the holographic conductivity for a $(2+1)$-dimensional brane boundary and study its behavior in terms of the frequency per temperature. Interestingly enough, we find out that, in contrast to the Lifshitz-Maxwell-dilaton black branes which has conductivity for all $z$, here in the presence of nonlinear gauge field, the holographic conductivity do exist provided $z\leq3$ and vanishes for $z>3$. It is shown that independent of the nonlinear parameter $β$, the real part of the conductivity is the same for a specific value of frequency per temperature in both AdS and Lifshitz cases. Besides, the behavior of real part of conductivity for large frequencies has a positive slope with respect to large frequencies for a system with Lifshitz symmetry whereas it tends to a constant for a system with AdS symmetry. This behavior may be interpreted as existence of an additional charge carrier rather than the AdS case, and is due to the presence of the scalar dilaton field in model. Similar behavior for optical conductivity of single-layer graphene induced by mild oxygen plasma exposure has been reported.

Thermodynamics of charged rotating dilaton black branes coupled to logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics

We construct a new class of charged rotating black brane solutions in the presence of logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics with complete set of the rotation parameters in arbitrary dimensions. The topology of the horizon of these rotating black branes are flat, while, due to the presence of the dilaton field the asymptotic behaviour of them are neither flat nor (anti)-de Sitter [(A)dS]. We investigate the physical properties of the solutions. The mass and angular momentum of the spacetime are obtained by using the counterterm method inspired by AdS/CFT correspondence. We derive temperature, electric potential and entropy associated with the horizon and check the validity of the first law of thermodynamics on the black brane horizon. We study thermal stability of the solutions in both canonical and grand canonical ensemble and disclose the effects of the rotation parameter, nonlinearity of electrodynamics and dilaton field on the thermal stability conditions. We find the solutions are thermally stable for $α<1$, while for $α>1$ the solutions may encounter an unstable phase where $α$ is dilaton-electromagnetic coupling constant.

Thermodynamics and gauge/gravity duality for Lifshitz black holes in the presence of exponential electrodynamics

In this paper, we construct a new class of topological black hole Lifshitz solutions in the presence of nonlinear exponential electrodynamics for Einstein-dilaton gravity. We show that the reality of Lifshitz supporting Maxwell matter fields exclude the negative horizon curvature solutions except for the asymptotic AdS case. Calculating the conserved and thermodynamical quantities, we obtain a Smarr type formula for the mass and confirm that thermodynamics first law is satisfied on the black hole horizon. Afterward, we study the thermal stability of our solutions and figure out the effects of different parameters on the stability of solutions under thermal perturbations. Next, we apply the gauge/gravity duality in order to calculate the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy for a three-dimensional hydrodynamic system by using the pole method. Furthermore, we study the behavior of holographic conductivity for two-dimensional systems such as graphene. We consider linear Maxwell and nonlinear exponential electrodynamics separately and disclose the effect of nonlinearity on holographic conductivity. We indicate that holographic conductivity vanishes for $z>3$ in the case of nonlinear electrodynamics while it does not in the linear Maxwell case. Finally, we solve perturbative additional field equations numerically and plot the behaviors of real and imaginary parts of conductivity for asymptotic AdS and Lifshitz cases. We present experimental results match with our numerical ones.

Holographic Superconductors with Logarithmic Nonlinear Electrodynamics in an External Magnetic Field

Based on the matching method, we explore the effects of adding an external magnetic field on the $s$-wave holographic superconductor when the gauge field is in the form of the logarithmic nonlinear source. First, we obtain the critical temperature as well as the condensation operator in the presence of logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics and understand that they depend on the nonlinear parameter $b$. We show that the critical temperature decreases with increasing $b$, which implies that the nonlinear gauge field makes the condensation harder. Then, we turn on the magnetic field in the bulk and find the critical magnetic field, $B_c$, in terms of the temperature, which also depends on the nonlinear parameter $b$. We observe that for temperature smaller than the critical temperature, $T<T_c$, the critical magnetic field increases with increasing $b$ and goes to zero as $T\rightarrow T_c$, independent of the nonlinear parameter $b$. In the limiting case where $ b\rightarrow0 $, all results restore those of the holographic superconductor with magnetic field in Maxwell theory.

Comment on "Insight into the Microscopic Structure of an AdS Black Hole from a Thermodynamical Phase Transition"

Thermodynamic geometry analysis of interesting Letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 111302 (2015)] for charged AdS black holes, which is based on studying the Ruppeiner invariant behavior is not correct and the authors made a mistake in calculating this quantity. In the present Letter, we address the correct Ruppeiner scalar curvature and reveal the correct possible microscopic properties of 4-dimensional charged AdS black holes arise from it. Some of these properties have not been discussed in pointed out Letter.

Analytical study of properties of holographic superconductors with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics

Based on the Sturm-Liouville (SL) eigenvalue problem, we analytically study several properties of holographic $s$-wave superconductors with exponential nonlinear electrodynamics in the background of Schwarzschild anti-de Sitter (AdS) black holes. We assume the probe limit in which the scalar and gauge fields do not back react on the background metric. We show that for this system, one can still obtain an analytical relation between the critical temperature and the charge density. Interestingly enough, we find that logarithmic nonlinear electrodynamics decreases the critical temperature, $T_c$, of the holographic superconductors compared to the linear Maxwell field. This implies that the nonlinear electrodynamics make the condensation harder. The analytical results obtained in this paper are in good agreement with the existing numerical results. We also compute the critical exponent near the critical temperature and find out that it is still $1/2$ which seems to be an universal value in mean field theory.

Analytical study of holographic superconductor in Born-Infeld electrodynamics with backreaction

We generalize the analytical investigation on the properties of $s$-wave holographic superconductors in the presence of Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics by taking the backreaction into account. We find that in the presence of nonlinear gauge field, one can still employ the analytical method when the backreaction is turned on. Our calculation is based on the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem, which is a variational method. For the system under consideration, we obtain the relation between the critical temperature and the charge density. We find that both backreaction and Born-Infeld parameters decrease the critical temperature of the superconductor and make the condensation harder. At the ned of paper, we calculate the critical exponent associated with the condensation near the critical temperature and find that it has the universal value $1/2$ of the mean field theory.
