Gluing Feynman diagrams in NDIM: Insights into the three-point vertex

Three-point vertex diagram plays a key role in the whole renormalization program of several QFT (quantum field theory) models such as QED, QCD, the Standard Model of eletroweak interactions and so forth. The exact analytic result for the triangle diagram therefore is fundamental. In this work we calculate in two different ways a two-point two-loop massless Feynman diagram using what we call a "gluing" technique in the context of NDIM (Negative Dimensional Integration Method). The two-loop diagram in question can be "glued" in two different ways and we show that both yield the same result and reproduce the one calculated via NDIM for the complete diagram, which, of course, is equivalent to the exact solution obtained by normal positive dimensional calculation. Furthermore, in the process we conclude that the usual massless off-shell triangle diagram result does not hold anymore and present a new solution for it with only three hypergeometric functions $F_{4}$.

QED$_{4}$ Ward Identity for fermionic field in the light-front

In a covariant gauge we implicitly assume that the Green's function propagates information from one point of the space-time to another, so that the Green's function is responsible for the dynamics of the relativistic particle. In the light front form, which in principle is a change of coordinates, one would expect that this feature would be preserved. In this manner, the fermion's field propagator can be split into a propagating piece and a non-propagating (``contact'') term. Since the latter (``contact'') one does not propagate information, and therefore, assumedly with no harm to the field dynamics we wanted to know what would be the impact of dropping it off. To do that, we investigated its role in the Ward identity in the light front.

Angular momentum quantization from Planck's energy quantization

We present in this work a pedagogical way of quantizing the atomic orbit for the hydrogen's atom model proposed by Bohr without using his hypothesis of angular momentum quantization. In contrast to the usual treatment for the orbital quantization, we show that using energy conservation, correspondence principle and Plank's energy quantization Bohr's hypothesis can be deduced from and is a consequence of the Planck's energy quantization.

Antiparticle Contribution in the Cross Ladder Diagram for Bethe-Salpater Equation in the Light-Front

We construct the homogeneous integral equation for the vertex of the bound state in the light front with the kernel approximated to order g^4. We will truncate the hierarchical equations from Green functions to construct dynamical equations for the two boson bound state exchanging interacting intermediate bosons and including pair creation process contributing to the crossed ladder diagram.

Revisiting Bohr's quantization hypothesis for the atomic orbitals

We deduce the quantization of the atomic orbit for the hydrogen's atom model proposed by Bohr without using his hypothesis of angular momentum quantization. We show that his hypothesis can be deduced from and is a consequence of the Planck's energy quantization.

Gauge transformations are not canonical transformations

In classical mechanics, we can describe the dynamics of a given system using either the Lagrangian formalism or the Hamiltonian formalism, the choice of either one being determined by whether one wants to deal with a second degree differential equation or a pair of first degree ones. For the former approach, we know that the Euler-Lagrange equation of motion remains invariant under additive total derivative with respect to time of any function of coordinates and time in the Lagrangian function, whereas the latter one is invariant under canonical transformations. In this short paper we address the question whether the transformation that leaves the Euler-Lagrange equation of motion invariant is also a canonical transformation and show that it is not.

Antiparticle Contribution in the Cross Ladder Diagram for Two Boson Propagation in the Light-front

In the light-front milieu, there is an implicit assumption that the vacuum is trivial. By this " triviality " is meant that the Fock space of solutions for equations of motion is sectorized in two, one of positive energy k- and the other of negative one corresponding respectively to positive and negative momentum k+. It is assumed that only one of the Fock space sector is enough to give a complete description of the solutions, but in this work we consider an example where we demonstrate that both sectors are necessary.

Why pair production cures covariance in the light-front?

We show that the light-front vaccum is not trivial, and the Fock space for positive energy quanta solutions is not complete. As an example of this non triviality we have calculated the electromagnetic current for scalar bosons in the background field method were the covariance is restored through considering the complete Fock space of solutions. We also show thus that the method of "dislocating the integration pole" is nothing more than a particular case of this, so that such an "ad hoc" prescription can be dispensed altogether if we deal with the whole Fock space. In this work we construct the electromagnetic current operator for a system composed of two free bosons. The technique employed to deduce these operators is through the definition of global propagators in the light front when a background electromagnetic field acts on one of the particles.

Is the Bohr's quantization hypothesis necessary ?

We deduce the quantization of Bohr's hydrogen's atomic orbit without using his hypothesis of angular momentum quantization. We show that his hypothesis is nothing more than a consequence of the Planck's energy quantization.

Singularity-softening prescription for the Bethe-Salpeter equation

The reduction of the two fermion Bethe-Salpeter equation in the framework of light-front dynamics is studied for one gauge A+=0. The arising effective interaction can be perturbatively expanded in powers of the coupling constant g, allowing a defined number of gauge boson exchanges. The singularity of the kernel of the integral equation at vanishs plus momentum of the gauge is canceled exactly in on approuch. We studied the problem using a singularity-softening prescription for the light-front gauge.

The Light Front Gauge Propagator: The Status Quo

At the classical level, the inverse differential operator for the quadratic term in the gauge field Lagrangian density fixed in the light front through the multiplier (nA)^2 yields the standard two term propagator with single unphysical pole of the type (kn)^-1. Upon canonical quantization on the light-front, there emerges a third term of the form (kn^(mu)n^(nu))(kn)^-2. This third term in the propagator has traditionally been dropped on the grounds that is exactly cancelled by the "instantaneous" term in the interaction Hamiltonian in the light-front. Our aim in this work is not to discuss which of the propagators is the correct one, but rather to present at the classical level, the gauge fixing conditions that can lead to the three-term propagator.

Search for Dark Matter WIMPs using Upward Through-going Muons in Super-Kamiokande

We present the results of indirect searches for Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) with 1679.6 live days of data from the Super-Kamiokande detector using neutrino-induced upward through-going muons. The search is performed by looking for an excess of high energy muon neutrinos from WIMP annihilations in the Sun, the core of the Earth, and the Galactic Center, as compared to the number expected from the atmospheric neutrino background. No statistically significant excess was seen. We calculate flux limits in various angular cones around each of the above celestial objects. We obtain conservative model-independent upper limits on WIMP-nucleon cross-section as a function of WIMP mass and compare these results with the corresponding results from direct dark matter detection experiments.

Can two or more gauge bosons propagate in the light-front?

Gauge fields in the light-front are usually fixed via the nA=0 condition yielding the non-local singularities of the type (kn)^(-a)=0 and a=1,2,.. in the gauge boson propagator which must be addressed conveniently. In calculating this propagator for n noncovariant gauge bosons those non-local terms demand the use of a prescription to ensure causality. We show that from 2 gauge bosons onward the implementation of such a prescription does not remove certain pathologies such as the non existence of two or more free propagating gauge bosons in the light-front form.

Relativistic free-particle quantization on the light-front: New aspects

We use the light-front machinery to study the behavior of a relativistic free particle and obtain the quantum commutation relations from the classical Poisson brackets. We argue that the usual projection onto the light-front coordinates for these from the covariant commutation ralations does not reproduce the expected results.

Surprises in the relativistic free-particle quantization on the light-front

We use the light front ``machinery'' to study the behavior of a relativistic free particle and obtain the quantum commutation relations from the classical Poisson brackets. We argue that their usual projection onto the light-front coordinates from the covariant commutation relations show that there is an inconsistency in the expected correlation between canonically conjugate variables ``time'' and ``energy''. Moreover we show that this incompatibility originates from the very definition of the Poisson brackets that is employed and present a simple remedy to this problem and envisages a profound physical implication on the whole process of quantization.

Quantum gauge boson propagators in the light front

Gauge fields in the light front are traditionally addressed via the employment of an algebraic condition $n\cdot A=0$ in the Lagrangian density, where $A_μ$ is the gauge field (Abelian or non-Abelian) and $n^μ$ is the external, light-like, constant vector which defines the gauge proper. However, this condition though necessary is not sufficient to fix the gauge completely; there still remains a residual gauge freedom that must be addressed appropriately. To do this, we need to define the condition $(n\cdot A)(\partial \cdot A)=0$ with $n\cdot A=0=\partial \cdot A$. The implementation of this condition in the theory gives rise to a gauge boson propagator (in momentum space) leading to conspicuous non-local singularities of the type $(k\cdot n)^{-α}$ where $α=1,2$. These singularities must be conveniently treated, and by convenient we mean not only matemathically well-defined but physically sound and meaningfull as well. In calculating such a propagator for one and two noncovariant gauge bosons those singularities demand from the outset the use of a prescription such as the Mandelstam-Leibbrandt (ML) one. We show that the implementation of the ML prescription does not remove certain pathologies associated with zero modes. However we present a causal, singularity-softening prescription and show how to keep causality from being broken without the zero mode nuisance and letting only the propagation of physical degrees of freedom.

One-loop N-point equivalence among negative-dimensional, Mellin-Barnes and Feynman parametrization approaches to Feynman integrals

We show that at one-loop order, negative-dimensional, Mellin-Barnes' (MB) and Feynman parametrization (FP) approaches to Feynman loop integrals calculations are equivalent. Starting with a generating functional, for two and then for $N$-point scalar integrals we show how to reobtain MB results, using negative-dimensional and FP techniques. The $N-$point result is valid for different masses, arbitrary exponents of propagators and dimension.

General massive one-loop off-shell three-point functions

In this work we compute the most general massive one-loop off-shell three-point vertex in D-dimensions, where the masses, external momenta, and exponents of propagators are arbitrary. This follows our previous paper in which we have calculated several new hypergeometric series representations for massless and massive (with equal masses) scalar one-loop three-point functions, in the negative dimensional approach.
