Induction for locally compact quantum groups revisited

In this paper we revisit the theory of induced representations in the setting of locally compact quantum groups. In the case of induction from open quantum subgroups, we show that constructions of Kustermans and Vaes are equivalent to the classical, and much simpler, construction of Rieffel. We also prove in general setting the continuity of induction in the sense of Vaes with respect to weak containment.

Quantum actions on discrete quantum spaces and a generalization of Clifford's theory of representations

To any action of a compact quantum group on a von Neumann algebra which is a direct sum of factors we associate an equivalence relation corresponding to the partition of a space into orbits of the action. We show that in case all factors are finite-dimensional (i.e. when the action is on a discrete quantum space) the relation has finite orbits. We then apply this to generalize the classical theory of Clifford, concerning the restrictions of representations to normal subgroups, to the framework of quantum subgroups of discrete quantum groups, itself extending the context of closed normal quantum subgroups of compact quantum groups. Finally, a link is made between our equivalence relation in question and another equivalence relation defined by R.Vergnioux.

Idempotent states on locally compact quantum groups II

Correspondence between idempotent states and expected right-invariant subalgebras is extended to non-coamenable, non-unimodular locally compact quantum groups; in particular left convolution operators are shown to automatically preserve the right Haar weight.

The canonical central exact sequence for locally compact quantum groups

For a locally compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ we define its center, $\mathscr{Z}(\mathbb{G})$, and its quantum group of inner automorphisms, $\mathrm{Inn}(\mathbb{G})$. We show that one obtains a natural isomorphism between $\mathrm{Inn}(\mathbb{G})$ and $\mathbb{G}/\!\mathscr{Z}(\mathbb{G})$, we characterize normal quantum subgroups of a compact quantum group as those left invariant by the action of the quantum group of inner automorphisms and discuss several examples.

Open quantum subgroups of locally compact quantum groups

The notion of an open quantum subgroup of a locally compact quantum group is introduced and given several equivalent characterizations in terms of group-like projections, inclusions of quantum group C*-algebras and properties of respective quantum homogenous spaces. Open quantum subgroups are shown to be closed in the sense of Vaes and normal open quantum subgroups are proved to be in 1-1 correspondence with normal compact quantum subgroups of the dual quantum group.

Integration over the quantum diagonal subgroup and associated Fourier-like algebras

By analogy with the classical construction due to Forrest, Samei and Spronk we associate to every compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$ a completely contractive Banach algebra $A_Δ(\mathbb{G})$, which can be viewed as a deformed Fourier algebra of $\mathbb{G}$. To motivate the construction we first analyse in detail the quantum version of the integration over the diagonal subgroup, showing that although the quantum diagonal subgroups in fact never exist, as noted earlier by Kasprzak and Sołtan, the corresponding integration represented by a certain idempotent state on $C(\mathbb{G})$ makes sense as long as $\mathbb{G}$ is of Kac type. Finally we analyse as an explicit example the algebras $A_Δ(O_N^+)$, $N\ge 2$, associated to Wang's free orthogonal groups, and show that they are not operator weakly amenable.

Lévy Processes on Quantum Permutation Groups

We describe basic motivations behind quantum or noncommutative probability, introduce quantum Lévy processes on compact quantum groups, and discuss several aspects of the study of the latter in the example of quantum permutation groups. The first half of this paper is a survey on quantum probability, compact quantum groups, and Lévy processes on compact quantum groups. In the second half the theory is applied to quantum permutations groups. Explicit examples are constructed and certain classes of such Lévy processes are classified.

Actions of locally compact (quantum) groups on ternary rings of operators, their crossed products and generalized Poisson boundaries

Actions of locally compact groups and quantum groups on W*-ternary rings of operators are discussed and related crossed products introduced. The results generalise those for von Neumann algebraic actions with proofs based mostly on passing to the linking von Neumann algebra. They are motivated by the study of fixed point spaces for convolution operators generated by contractive, non-necessarily positive measures, both in the classical and in the quantum context.

Wreath products of finite groups by quantum groups

We introduce a notion of partition wreath product of a finite group by a partition quantum group, a construction motivated on the one hand by classical wreath products and on the other hand by the free wreath product of J. Bichon. We identify the resulting quantum group in several cases, establish some of its properties and show that when the finite group in question is abelian, the partition wreath product is itself a partition quantum group. This allows us to compute its representation theory, using earlier results of the first named author.

Quantum families of invertible maps and related problems

The notion of families of quantum invertible maps ($C^*$-algebra homomorphisms satisfying Podleś condition) is employed to strengthen and reinterpret several results concerning universal quantum groups acting on finite quantum spaces. In particular Wang's quantum automorphism groups are shown to be universal with respect to quantum families of invertible maps. Further the construction of the Hopf image of Banica and Bichon is phrased in the purely analytic language and employed to define the quantum subgroup generated by a family of quantum subgroups or more generally a family of quantum invertible maps.

One-to-one correspondence between generating functionals and cocycles on quantum groups in presence of symmetry

We prove that under a symmetry assumption all cocycles on Hopf *-algebras arise from generating functionals. This extends earlier results of R.Vergnioux and D.Kyed and has two quantum group applications: all quantum Lévy processes with symmetric generating functionals decompose into a maximal Gaussian and purely non-Gaussian part and the Haagerup property for discrete quantum groups is characterized by the existence of an arbitrary proper cocycle.

The quantum algebra of partial Hadamard matrices

A partial Hadamard matrix is a matrix $H\in M_{M\times N}(\mathbb T)$ whose rows are pairwise orthogonal. We associate to each such $H$ a certain quantum semigroup $G$ of quantum partial permutations of $\{1,...,M\}$ and study the correspondence $H\to G$. We discuss as well the relation between the completion problems for a given partial Hadamard matrix and completion problems for the associated submagic matrix $P\in M_M(M_N(\mathbb C))$, in both cases introducing certain criteria for the existence of the suitable completions.

The Haagerup property for arbitrary von Neumann algebras

We introduce a natural generalization of the Haagerup property of a finite von Neumann algebra to an arbitrary von Neumann algebra (with a separable predual) equipped with a normal, semi-finite, faithful weight and prove that this property does not depend on the choice of the weight. In particular this defines the Haagerup property as an intrinsic invariant of the von Neumann algebra. We also show that such a generalized Haagerup property is preserved under taking crossed products by actions of amenable locally compact groups. Our results are motivated by recent examples from the theory of discrete quantum groups, where the Haagerup property appears a priori only with respect to the Haar state.

The Haagerup approximation property for von Neumann algebras via quantum Markov semigroups and Dirichlet forms

The Haagerup approximation property for a von Neumann algebra equipped with a faithful normal state $φ$ is shown to imply existence of unital, $φ$-preserving and KMS-symmetric approximating maps. This is used to obtain a characterisation of the Haagerup approximation property via quantum Markov semigroups (extending the tracial case result due to Jolissaint and Martin) and further via quantum Dirichlet forms.

Generalisations of the Haagerup approximation property to arbitrary von Neumann algebras

The notion of the Haagerup approximation property, originally introduced for von Neumann algebras equipped with a faithful normal tracial state, is generalized to arbitrary von Neumann algebras. We discuss two equivalent characterisations, one in terms of the standard form and the other in terms of the approximating maps with respect to a fixed faithful normal semifinite weight. Several stability properties, in particular regarding the crossed product construction are established and certain examples are introduced.

The Haagerup property for locally compact quantum groups

The Haagerup property for locally compact groups is generalised to the context of locally compact quantum groups, with several equivalent characterisations in terms of the unitary representations and positive-definite functions established. In particular it is shown that a locally compact quantum group G has the Haagerup property if and only if its mixing representations are dense in the space of all unitary representations. For discrete G we characterise the Haagerup property by the existence of a symmetric proper conditionally negative functional on the dual quantum group $\hat{G}$; by the existence of a real proper cocycle on G, and further, if G is also unimodular we show that the Haagerup property is a von Neumann property of G. This extends results of Akemann, Walter, Bekka, Cherix, Valette, and Jolissaint to the quantum setting and provides a connection to the recent work of Brannan. We use these characterisations to show that the Haagerup property is preserved under free products of discrete quantum groups.

Projective limits of quantum symmetry groups and the doubling construction for Hopf algebras

The quantum symmetry group of the inductive limit of C*-algebras equipped with orthogonal filtrations is shown to be the projective limit of the quantum symmetry groups of the C*-algebras appearing in the sequence. Some explicit examples of such projective limits are studied, including the case of quantum symmetry groups of the duals of finite symmetric groups, which do not fit directly into the framework of the main theorem and require further specific study. The investigations reveal a deep connection between quantum symmetry groups of discrete group duals and the doubling construction for Hopf algebras.
