Is topological Skyrme Model consistent with the Satandard Model?

The topological Skyrme model is known to give a successful description of baryons. As a consistency check, here it is shown that in view of the recent discovery of charge quantization as an intrinsic and basic property of the Standard Model and the color dependence arising therein, the Skyrme Model is indeed completely consistent with the Standard Model.

On Standard Model Higgs and Superstring Theories

It is shown that in the Standard Model, the property of charge quantization holds for a Higgs with arbitrary isospin and hypercharge. These defining quantum numbers of the Higgs remain unconstrained while the whole basic and fundamental structure of the Standard Model remains intact. Hence it is shown that the Higgs cannot be a physical particle. Higgs is the underlying `vacuum' over which the whole edifice of the Standard Model stands. Also on most general grounds it is established here that as per the Standard Model there is no electric charge above the electro-weak phase transition temperature. Hence there was no electric charge present in the Early Universe. The Superstring Theories are flawed in as much as they are incompatible with this requirement.

Quantum Entanglement and Quantum Chromodynamics

Non-locality or entanglement is an experimentally well established property of quantum mechanics. Here we study the role of quantum entanglement for higher symmetry group like $ SU(3_c) $, the gauge group of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). We show that the hitherto unexplained property of confinement in QCD arises as a fundamental feature of quantum entanglement in $ SU(3_c) $.

Electric charge, early universe and the Superstring Theories

Very recently, it has been shown by the author that the Standard Model Higgs cannot be a physical particle. Here, on most general grounds it is established that as per the Standard Model there is no electric charge above the electro-weak phase transition temperature. Hence there was no electric charge present in the early universe. The Superstring Theories are flawed in as much as they are incompatible with this requirement. Hence the Superstring Theories are inconsistent with this basic structure and requirement of the Standard Model.

Quarks and Neutron Halo Nuclei, Nuclear Clusters and Nuclear Molecules

It is shown that the hole in the centre of $ ^{3}H $, $ ^{3}He $ and $ ^{4}He $, the neutron halos in nuclei, the $ α- $ and other clustering effects in nuclei and the nuclear molecules all basically arise due to the same underlying effect. We shall show that all these ground state properties of nuclei are manifestations of quark effects. The role of triton clustering in very neutron rich nuclei is emphasized. All these require the concept of hidden colour states which arise from confinement ideas of QCD for the multi-quark systems. This provides comprehensive understanding of diverse nuclear effects and makes unique predictions.

Signals of Supersymmetric Dark Matter

The Lightest Supersymmetric Particle predicted in most of the supersymmetric scenarios is an ideal candidate for the dark matter of cosmology. Their detection is of extreme significance today. Recently there have been intriguing signals of a 59 Gev neutralino dark matter at DAMA in Gran Sasso. We look at other possible signatures of dark matter in astrophysical and geological frameworks. The passage of the earth through dense clumps of dark matter would produce large quantities of heat in the interior of this planet through the capture and subsequent annihilation of dark matter particles. This heat would lead to large-scale volcanism which could in turn have caused mass extinctions. The periodicity of such volcanic outbursts agrees with the frequency of palaeontological mass extinctions as well as the observed periodicity in the occurrence of the largest flood basalt provinces on the globe. Binary character of these extinctions is another unique aspect of this signature of dark matter. In addition dark matter annihilations appear to be a new source of heat in the planetary systems.

Surface Tension at Finite Tempearture in the MIT Bag Model

At $ T = 0 $ the surface tension $ σ^{1/3} $ in the MIT bag model for a single hadron is known to be negligible as compared to the bag pressure $ B^{1/4}$. We show that at finite temperature it has a substantial value of 50 - 70 MeV which also differ from hadron to hadron. We also find that the dynamics of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is such that the creation of hybrids $(s\bar{s}g)$ with massive quarks will predominate over the creation of $ (s\bar{s}) $ mesons.

The Deflation of SU(3)_c at High Temperatures

The ideas of "local" and "global" colour-singletness are not well understood within QCD. We use a group theoretical technique to project out the partition function for a system of quarks, antiquarks and gluons to a particular representation of the internal symmetry group $SU(3)_c$: colour-singlet, colour-octet and colour 27-plet at finite temperature. For high temperatures and large size it is shown that colour-singlet is degenerate with colour-octet, colour 27-plet states etc. For the composite system it is shown that $SU(3)_c$ appears to be a good symmetry only at low temperatures and at higher temperatures it gets submerged into a larger group $U(12)_q \otimes U(12)_{\bar{q}}$ (2-flavour). At high enough temperatures this conclusion is model independent. This means that a phase transition from the hadronic matter to the quark-gluon phase implies a transition from the group $SU(3)_c$ to $U(12)_q \otimes U(12)_{\bar q}$. Ideas of extensions beyond the standard model would have to be reviewed in the light of this result.

Anoxia duirng the Late Permian Binary Mass Extinction and Dark Matter

Recent evidence quite convincingly indicates that the Late Permian biotic crisis was in fact a binary extinction with a distinct end-Guadalupian extinction pulse preceding the major terminal end-Permian Tartarian event by 5 million years. In addition anoxia appears to be closely associated with each of these end-Paleozoic binary extinctions. Most leading models cannot explain both anoxia and the binary characteristic of this crisis. In this paper we show that the recently proposed volcanogenic dark matter scenario succeeds in doing this.

Double Mass Extinctions and the Volcanogenic Dark Matter Scenario

A few of the major mass extinctions of paleontology have recently been found to consist of two distinct extinction peaks at higher resolution. A viable explanation for this remains elusive. In this paper it is shown that the recently proposed volcanogenic dark matter model can explain this puzzling characteristic of these extinctions. The accumulation and annihilation of dark matter in the center of the Earth due to the passage of a clump leads to excess heat generation with the consequent ejection of superplumes, followed by massive volcanism and attendant mass extinctions. This is preceded by an extinction pulse due to carcinogenesis arising from the direct interaction of the clumped dark matter with living organisms.

Volcanogenic Dark Matter and Mass Extinctions

The passage of the Earth through dense clumps of dark matter, the presence of which are predicted by certain cosmologies, would produce large quantities of heat in the interior of this planet through the capture and subsequent annihilation of dark matter particles. This heat can cause large-scale volcanism which could in turn have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs and other mass extinctions. The periodicity of such volcanic outbursts agrees with the frequency of palaeontological mass extinctions as well as the observed periodicity in the occurrence of the largest flood basalt provinces on the globe.

Hybrids as a Signature of Quark-Gluon Plasma

We show that the dynamics of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is such that during hadronization the creation of hybrids will predominate over the creation of mesons, giving a novel signature of the existence of QGP. At T = 0 the $(q\bar{q}g)$ hybrids are known to decay strongly into a pair of mesons. We find that at temperatures relevant to the QGP, this channel is forbidden. This would lead to significant modifications of the photonic signals of the QGP.

Comments on Biological Effects of Stellar Collapse Neutrinos

Extraterrestrial processes like neutrinos from collapsing stars, cosmic rays from supernovae and cosmic rays from neutron star mergers etc. have recently been proposed as models to explain the periodic mass extinctions such as that which wiped out the dinosaurs at the K-T boundary. Here we show that these models fail to give any reasonable explanation of several empirically established facts related to these mass extinctions.

Can one still talk of a Broken Quantum Chromodynamics?

The exact QCD is one of the cornerstones of particle physics. Hence it would appear that there should exist no physical situation where a broken version of QCD may have any relevance. However, here I shall show that a spontaneously broken version of QCD may have been significant in an early universe scenario. How this can be made compatible with the exact QCD shall be pointed out. This gives rise to a new cosmological dark matter object (called "rungion").

A New Candidate for the Dark Matter

It is shown that if there are two distinct phase transition temperatures to the hadronic phase ( as is currently favoured), then QCD demands a condensation to a weakly interacting massive glueball. This glueball then becomes a natural candidate for the cosmological dark matter. Note that this does not involve any exotic extensions beyond the Standard Model of particle physics. In this revised version at the end of the paper I have added a new section called ADDENDUM which gives new arguments as to how this very heavy glueball can be stable and hence be a dark matter candidate.

Diquark Structure in Heavy Quark Baryons in a Geometric Model

Using a geometric model for the study of the structure of hadrons, we study baryons having one, two and three heavy quarks. The study reveals diquark structure in baryons with one and two heavy quarks but not with three heavy identical quarks.

A Heavy Glueball in a Bag Model at Finite Temperature

We obtain a heavy glueball (much heavier than the ones studied by others which usually are in the range of 1-2 GeV) in a bag model calculation with exact discrete single particle states of gluons at finite temperature. This heavy glueball, within the cosmological context, is what Abbas has recently predicted (hep-ph/9504430).
