Sub-Poissonian estimates for exponential moments of additive functionals over pairs of particles with respect to determinantal and symplectic Pfaffian point processes governed by entire functions

The aim of this note is to estimate the tail of the distribution of the number of particles in an interval under determinantal and Pfaffian point processes. The main result of the note is that the square of the number of particles under the determinantal point process whose correlation kernel is an entire function of finite order has sub-Poissonian tails. The same result also holds in the symplectic Pfaffian case. As a corollary, sub-Poissonian estimates are also obtained for exponential moments of additive functionals over pairs of particles.

Boundary Feller-Dynkin processes associated with Laguerre processes and Pickrell diffusions

In this paper, we construct a Feller-Dynkin boundary process by applying the method of intertwiners to the coherent family, introduced in our previous work, of Laguerre processes with a fixed parameter. The corresponding boundary process is computed explicitly, and it turns out to be a deterministic dynamical system. Since the Pickrell diffusions that leave the Pickrell measure invariant are coherent with respect to the same projective system, we also obtain the stochastic boundary process associated with the coherent family of Pickrell diffusions.

Local spectral estimates and quantitative weak mixing for substitution $\mathbb{Z}$-actions

The paper investigates Hölder and log-Hölder regularity of spectral measures for weakly mixing substitutions and the related question of quantitative weak mixing. It is assumed that the substitution is primitive, aperiodic, and its substitution matrix is irreducible over the rationals. In the case when there are no eigenvalues of the substitution matrix on the unit circle, our main theorem says that a weakly mixing substitution $\mathbb{Z}$-action has uniformly log-Hölder regular spectral measures, and hence admits power-logarithmic bounds for the rate of weak mixing. In the more delicate Salem substitution case, our second main result says that Hölder regularity holds for algebraic spectral parameters, but the Hölder exponent cannot be chosen uniformly.

The Speed of Convergence with respect to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Metric in the Soshnikov Central Limit Theorem for the Sine-Process

For rescaled additive functionals of the sine-process, upper bounds are obtained for their speed of convergence to the Gaussian distribution with respect to the Kolmogorov-Smirnov metric. Under scaling with coefficient $R$ the Kolmogorov-Smirnov distance is bounded from above by $c/\log R$ for a smooth function and by $c/R$ for a function holomorphic in a horizontal strip.

The intertwining property for Laguerre processes with a fixed parameter

We investigate the intertwining of Laguerre processes of parameter $α$ in different dimensions. We introduce a Feller kernel that depends on $α$ and intertwines the $α$-Laguerre process in $N+1$ dimensions and that in $N$ dimensions. When $α$ is a non-negative integer, the new kernel is interpreted in terms of the conditional distribution of the squared singular values: if the singular values of a unitarily invariant random matrix of order $(N+α+1) \times (N+1)$ are fixed, then the those of its $(N+α) \times N $ truncation matrix are given by the new kernel.

A Palm hierarchy for determinantal point processes with the confluent hypergeometric kernel, the decomposing measures in the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite-dimensional unitary group

The main result of this note is that the shift of the parameter by 1 in the parameter space of decomposing measures in the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite-dimensional unitary group corresponds to the taking of the reduced Palm measure at infinity for our decomposing measures. The proof proceeds by finite-dimensional approximation of our measures by orthogonal polynomial ensembles. The key remark is that the taking the reduced Palm measure commutes with the scaling limit transition from finite to infinite particle systems.

Generalized fusible numbers and their ordinals

Erickson defined the fusible numbers as a set $\mathcal F$ of reals generated by repeated application of the function $\frac{x+y+1}{2}$. Erickson, Nivasch, and Xu showed that $\mathcal F$ is well ordered, with order type $\varepsilon_0$. They also investigated a recursively defined function $M\colon \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$. They showed that the set of points of discontinuity of $M$ is a subset of $\mathcal F$ of order type $\varepsilon_0$. They also showed that, although $M$ is a total function on $\mathbb R$, the fact that the restriction of $M$ to $\mathbb{Q}$ is total is not provable in first-order Peano arithmetic $\mathsf{PA}$. In this paper we explore the problem (raised by Friedman) of whether similar approaches can yield well-ordered sets $\mathcal F$ of larger order types. As Friedman pointed out, Kruskal's tree theorem yields an upper bound of the small Veblen ordinal for the order type of any set generated in a similar way by repeated application of a monotone function $g:\mathbb R^n\to\mathbb R$. The most straightforward generalization of $\frac{x+y+1}{2}$ to an $n$-ary function is the function $\frac{x_1+\cdots+x_n+1}{n}$. We show that this function generates a set $\mathcal F_n$ whose order type is just $φ_{n-1}(0)$. For this, we develop recursively defined functions $M_n\colon \mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ naturally generalizing the function $M$. Furthermore, we prove that for any linear function $g:\mathbb R^n\to\mathbb R$, the order type of the resulting $\mathcal F$ is at most $φ_{n-1}(0)$. Finally, we show that there do exist continuous functions $g:\mathbb R^n\to\mathbb R$ for which the order types of the resulting sets $\mathcal F$ approach the small Veblen ordinal.

Hölder regularity for the spectrum of translation flows

The paper is devoted to generic translation flows corresponding to Abelian differentials on flat surfaces of arbitrary genus $g\ge 2$. These flows are weakly mixing by the Avila-Forni theorem. In genus 2, the Hölder property for the spectral measures of these flows was established in our papers [10,12]. Recently Forni [17], motivated by [10], obtained Hölder estimates for spectral measures in the case of surfaces of arbitrary genus. Here we combine Forni's idea with the symbolic approach of [10] and prove Hölder regularity for spectral measures of flows on random Markov compacta, in particular, for translation flows in all genera.

Fluctuations of the process of moduli for the Ginibre and hyperbolic ensembles

We investigate the point process of moduli of the Ginibre and hyperbolic ensembles. We show that far from the origin and at an appropriate scale, these processes exhibit Gaussian and Poisson fluctuations. Among the possible Gaussian fluctuations, we can find white noise but also fluctuations with non-trivial covariance at a particular scale.

On substitution automorphisms with pure singular spectrum

A sufficient condition for a substitution automorphism to have pure singular spectrum is given in terms of the top Lyapunov exponent of the associated spectral cocycle. As a corollary, singularity of the spectrum is established for an infinite family of self-similar interval exchange transformations.

Self-similarity and spectral theory: on the spectrum of substitutions

In this survey of the spectral properties of substitution dynamical systems we consider primitive aperiodic substitutions and associated dynamical systems: ${\mathbb Z}$-actions and ${\mathbb R}$-actions, the latter viewed as tiling flows. Our focus is on the continuous part of the spectrum. For ${\mathbb Z}$-actions the maximal spectral type can be represented in terms of matrix Riesz products, whereas for tiling flows, the local dimension of the spectral measure is governed by the spectral cocycle. We give references to complete proofs and emphasize ideas and connections.

A determinantal point process governed by an integrable projection kernel is Giambelli compatible

The first main result of this note, Theorem 1.2, establishes the determinantal identities (7) and (8) for the expectation, under a determinantal point process governed by an integrable projection kernel, of scaling limits of characteristic polynomials sampled at several points. The determinantal identities (7) and (8) can be seen as the scaling limit of the identity of Fyodorov and Strahov for the averages of ratios of products of the values of the characteristic polynomial of a Gaussian unitary matrix. Borodin, Olshanski and Strahov derived the determinantal identity of Fyodorov and Strahov from the stability of the Giambelli formula under averaging. In Theorem 1.4 the stability of the Giambelli formula under averaging is established for determinantal point process with integrable projection kernels. The proof of Theorems 1.2 and 1.4 relies on the characterization of conditional measures of our point processes as orthogonal polynomial ensembles.

Convergence of spherical averages for actions of Fuchsian Groups

Pointwise convergence of spherical averages is proved for a measure-preserving action of a Fuchsian group. The proof is based on a new variant of the Bowen-Series symbolic coding for Fuchsian groups that, developing a method introduced by Wroten, simultaneously encodes all possible shortest paths representing a given group element. The resulting coding is self-inverse, giving a reversible Markov chain to which methods previously introduced by the first author for the case of free groups may be applied.

The Patterson-Sullivan Interpolation of Pluriharmonic Functions for Determinantal Point Processes on Complex Hyperbolic Spaces

The Patterson-Sullivan construction is proved almost surely to recover a Bergman function from its values on a random discrete subset sampled with the determinantal point process induced by the Bergman kernel on the unit ball $\mathbb{D}_d$ in $\mathbb{C}^d$. For super-critical weighted Bergman spaces, the interpolation is uniform when the functions range over the unit ball of the weighted Bergman space. As main results, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for interpolation of a fixed pluriharmonic function in the complex hyperbolic space of arbitrary dimension (cf. Theorem 1.4 and Theorem 4.11); optimal simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted Bergman spaces (cf. Theorem 1.8, Proposition 1.9 and Theorem 4.13); strong simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted harmonic Hardy spaces (cf. Theorem 1.11 and Theorem 4.15); and establish the impossibility of the uniform simultaneous interpolation for the Bergman space $A^2(\mathbb{D}_d)$ on $\mathbb{D}_d$ (cf. Theorem 1.12 and Theorem 6.7).
