Limit shape for domain-wall six-vertex model

In this note we announce limit shape theorems for the height function of the six-vertex model in the antiferroelectric (for arbitrary $Δ<-1$) and disordered (in a restricted range $-1 < Δ\le 1/2$) regimes under domain-wall boundary conditions.

Limiting shape of alternating sign matrices

In this note we announce the limiting shape for the height function of a uniformly distributed alternating sign matrix (equivalently, a six-vertex model with equal weights and domain-wall boundary conditions)

Periodic ASEP and random walks on affine Hecke Algebra

We study the large time behavior of a periodic ASEP with fixed period started from the step initial condition. We establish the limit shape theorem and the asymptotic distribution of a single second class particle. Our single-species results extend the previous results of Lam and Ayyer-Linusson about periodic TASEP to the ASEP case. These results can also be interpreted as describing the limit behavior of a random walk on affine Hecke algebra.

Leaders in multi-type TASEP

We study the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) on $\mathbb{Z}$ with step initial condition, in which all particles have distinct types. Our main object of interest is the type of the rightmost particle -- the leader -- at large time $t$. We prove a central limit theorem for this random variable. Somewhat unexpectedly, the problem is closely connected to certain observables of voter and coalescing processes on $\mathbb{Z}$; we therefore derive their asymptotics as well. We also analyze the large-time behavior of a few other related observables, including certain multi-particle ones.

Domino Tilings of the Aztec Diamond in Random Environment and Schur Generating Functions

We study the asymptotic behavior of random domino tilings of the Aztec diamond of size $M$ in a random environment, where the environment is a one-periodic sequence of i.i.d. random weights attached to domino positions (i.e., to the edges of the underlying portion of the square grid). We consider two cases: either the variance of the weights decreases at a critical scale $1/M$, or the distribution of the weights is fixed. In the former case, the unrescaled fluctuations of the domino height function are governed by the sum of a Gaussian Free Field and an independent Brownian motion. In the latter case, we establish fluctuations on the much larger scale $\sqrt M$, given by the Brownian motion alone. To access asymptotic fluctuations in random environment, we employ the method of Schur generating functions. Moreover, we substantially extend the known Law of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theorems for particle systems via Schur generating functions in order to apply them to our setting. These results might be of independent interest.

Asymptotics of Harish-Chandra transform and infinitesimal freeness

In the last ten years a technique of Schur generating functions and Harish-Chandra transforms was developed for the study of the asymptotic behavior of discrete particle systems and random matrices. In the current paper we extend this toolbox in several directions. We establish general results which allow to access not only the Law of Large Numbers, but also next terms of the asymptotic expansion of averaged empirical measures. In particular, this allows to obtain an analog of a discrete Baik-Ben Arous-Peche phase transition. A connection with infinitesimal free probability is shown and a quantized version of infinitesimal free probability is introduced. Also, we establish the Law of Large Numbers for several new regimes of growth of a Harish-Chandra transform.

Mallows Product Measure

Q-exchangeable ergodic distributions on the infinite symmetric group were classified by Gnedin-Olshanski (2012). In this paper, we study a specific linear combination of the ergodic measures and call it the Mallows product measure. From a particle system perspective, the Mallows product measure is a reversible stationary blocking measure of the infinite-species ASEP and it is a natural multi-species extension of the Bernoulli product blocking measures of the one-species ASEP. Moreover, the Mallows product measure can be viewed as the universal product blocking measure of interacting particle systems coming from random walks on Hecke algebras. For the random infinite permutation distributed according to the Mallows product measure we have computed the joint distribution of its neighboring displacements, as well as several other observables. The key feature of the obtained formulas is their remarkably simple product structure. We project these formulas to ASEP with finitely many species, which in particular recovers a recent result of Adams-Balazs-Jay, and also to ASEP(q,M). Our main tools are results of Gnedin-Olshanski about ergodic Mallows measures and shift-invariance symmetries of the stochastic colored six vertex model discovered by Borodin-Gorin-Wheeler and Galashin.

Local central limit theorem for Mallows measure

We study the statistics of the Mallows measure on permutations in the limit pioneered by Starr (2009). Our main result is the local central limit theorem for its height function. We also re-derive versions of the law of large numbers and the large deviation principle, obtain the standard central limit theorem from the local one, and establish a multi-point version of the local central limit theorem.

ASEP via Mallows coloring

In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (=ASEP) with finitely many particles. It turns out that a certain randomized initial condition is the most amenable to such an analysis. Our main result is the behavior of such an ASEP in the KPZ limit regime. A key technical tool introduced in the paper -- the coloring of ASEP particles with the use of random Mallows permutations -- may be of independent interest.

Cutoff profile of ASEP on a segment

This paper studies the mixing behavior of the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (ASEP) on a segment of length $N$. Our main result is that for particle densities in $(0,1),$ the total-variation cutoff window of ASEP is $N^{1/3}$ and the cutoff profile is $1-F_{\mathrm{GUE}},$ where $F_{\mathrm{GUE}}$ is the Tracy-Widom distribution function. This also gives a new proof of the cutoff itself, shown earlier by Labbé and Lacoin. Our proof combines coupling arguments, the result of Tracy-Widom about fluctuations of ASEP started from the step initial condition, and exact algebraic identities coming from interpreting the multi-species ASEP as a random walk on a Hecke algebra.

TASEP with a moving wall

We consider a totally asymmetric simple exclusion on $\mathbb{Z}$ with the step initial condition, under the additional restriction that the first particle cannot cross a deterministally moving wall. We prove that such a wall may induce asymptotic fluctuation distributions of particle positions of the form $$ \mathbb{P}\Big(\sup_{τ\in \mathbb{R}}\{\textrm{Airy}_2(τ) -g(τ)\}\leq S\Big)$$ with arbitrary barrier functions $g$. This is the same class of distributions that arises as one-point asymptotic fluctuations of TASEPs with arbitrary initial conditions. Examples include Tracy-Widom GOE and GUE distributions, as well as a crossover between them, all arising from various particles behind a linearly moving wall. We also prove that if the right-most particle is second class, and a linearly moving wall is shock-inducing, then the asymptotic distribution of the position of the second class particle is a mixture of the uniform distribution on a segment and the atomic measure at its right end.

Shock fluctuations in TASEP under a variety of time scalings

We consider the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) with two different initial conditions with shock discontinuities formed by blocks of fully packed particles. Initially a second class particle is at the left of a shock discontinuity. Using multicolored TASEP we derive exact formulas for the distribution of the second class particle and colored height functions. These are given in terms of the height function at different positions of a single TASEP configuration. We study the limiting distributions of second class particles (and colored height functions). The result depends on how the width blocks of particles scale with the observation time; we study a variety of such scalings.

Fluctuations of particle systems determined by Schur generating functions

We develop a new toolbox for the analysis of the global behavior of stochastic discrete particle systems. We introduce and study the notion of the Schur generating function of a random discrete configuration. Our main result provides a Central Limit Theorem (CLT) for such a configuration given certain conditions on the Schur generating function. As applications of this approach, we prove CLT's for several probabilistic models coming from asymptotic representation theory and statistical physics, including random lozenge and domino tilings, non-intersecting random walks, decompositions of tensor products of representations of unitary groups.

Observables of stochastic colored vertex models and local relation

We study the stochastic colored six vertex (SC6V) model and its fusion. Our main result is an integral expression for natural observables of this model -- joint q-moments of height functions. This generalises a recent result of Borodin-Wheeler. The key technical ingredient is a new relation of height functions of SC6V model in neighboring points. This relation is of independent interest; we refer to it as a local relation. As applications, we give a new proof of certain symmetries of height functions of SC6V model recently established by Borodin-Gorin-Wheeler and Galashin, and new formulas for joint moments of delayed partition functions of Beta polymer.

Absorbing time asymptotics in the oriented swap process

The oriented swap process is a natural directed random walk on the symmetric group that can be interpreted as a multi-species version of the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (TASEP) on a finite interval. An open problem from a 2008 paper of Angel, Holroyd, and Romik asks for the limiting distribution of the absorbing time of the process. We resolve this question by proving that this random variable satisfies GOE Tracy-Widom asymptotics. Our starting point is a distributional identity relating the behavior of the oriented swap process to last passage percolation, conjectured in a recent paper of Bisi, Cunden, Gibbons, and Romik. The main technical tool is a shift-invariance principle for multi-species TASEPs, obtained by exploiting recent results of Borodin, Gorin, and Wheeler for the stochastic colored six-vertex model.

Interacting particle systems and random walks on Hecke algebras

In this paper we show that a variety of interacting particle systems with multiple species can be viewed as random walks on Hecke algebras. This class of systems includes the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP), M-exclusion TASEP, ASEP(q,j), stochastic vertex models, and many others. As an application, we study the asymptotic behavior of second class particles in some of these systems.

Yang-Baxter random fields and stochastic vertex models

Bijectivization refines the Yang-Baxter equation into a pair of local Markov moves which randomly update the configuration of the vertex model. Employing this approach, we introduce new Yang-Baxter random fields of Young diagrams based on spin $q$-Whittaker and spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. We match certain scalar Markovian marginals of these fields with (1) the stochastic six vertex model; (2) the stochastic higher spin six vertex model; and (3) a new vertex model with pushing which generalizes the $q$-Hahn PushTASEP introduced recently by Corwin-Matveev-Petrov (arXiv:1811.06475). Our matchings include models with two-sided stationary initial data, and we obtain Fredholm determinantal expressions for the $q$-Laplace transforms of the height functions of all these models. Moreover, we also discover difference operators acting diagonally on spin $q$-Whittaker or (stable) spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions.

Color-position symmetry in interacting particle systems

We prove a color-position symmetry for a class of ASEP-like interacting particle systems with discrete time on the one-dimensional lattice. The full space-time inhomogeneity of our systems allows to apply the result to colored (or multi-species) ASEP and stochastic vertex models for a certain class of initial/boundary conditions, generalizing previous results of Amir-Angel-Valko and Borodin-Wheeler. We are also able to use the symmetry, together with previously known results for uncolored models, to find novel asymptotic behavior of the second class particles in several situations.
