Non-Archimedean Unitary Operators

We describe a subclass of the class of normal operators on Banach spaces over non-Archimedean fields (A. N. Kochubei, J. Math. Phys. 51 (2010), article 023526) consisting of operators whose properties resemble those of unitary operators. In particular, an analog of Stone's theorem about one-parameter groups of unitary operators is proved.

Non-Archimedean Shift Operators

We introduce and study non-Archimedean analogs of the operators of unilateral shift and backward shift playing crucial roles in the classical theory of nonselfadjoint operators. In particular, we find various functional models of these operators having both common and different features compared to their classical counterparts.

p-Adic Spherical Coordinates and Their Applications

On the space $\mathbb Q_p^n$, where $p\ne 2$ and $p$ does not divide $n$, we construct a p-adic counterpart of spherical coordinates. As applications, a description of homogeneous distributions on $\mathbb Q_p^n$ and a skew product decomposition of p-adic Lévy processes are given.

Distributed Order Derivatives and Relaxation Patterns

We consider equations of the form $(D_{(ρ)}u)(t)=-λu(t)$, $t>0$, where $λ>0$, $D_{(ρ)}$ is a distributed order derivative, that is the Caputo-Dzhrbashyan fractional derivative of order $α$, integrated in $α\in (0,1)$ with respect to a positive measure $ρ$. Such equations are used for modeling anomalous, non-exponential relaxation processes. In this work we study asymptotic behavior of solutions of the above equation, depending on properties of the measure $ρ$.

Fractional differential equations: alpha-entire solutions, regular and irregular singularities

We consider fractional differential equations of order $α\in (0,1)$ for functions of one independent variable $t\in (0,\infty)$ with the Riemann-Liouville and Caputo-Dzhrbashyan fractional derivatives. A precise estimate for the order of growth of $α$-entire solutions is given. An analog of the Frobenius method for systems with regular singularity is developed. For a model example of an equation with a kind of an irregular singularity, a series for a formal solution is shown to be convergent for $t>0$ (if $α$ is an irrational number poorly approximated by rational ones) but divergent in the distribution sense.

A Non-Archimedean Wave Equation

Let K be a non-Archimedean local field with the normalized absolute value $|\cdot |$. It is shown that a ``plane wave'' $f(t+ω_1 x_1+... +ω_nx_n)$, where f is a Bruhat-Schwartz complex-valued test function on K, $(t,x_1,..., x_n)\in K^{n+1}$, $\max\limits_{1\le j\le n}|ω_j|=1$, satisfies, for any f, a certain homogeneous pseudo-differential equation, an analog of the classical wave equation. A theory of the Cauchy problem for this equation is developed.

Distributed Order Calculus and Equations of Ultraslow Diffusion

We consider diffusion type equations with a distributed order derivative in the time variable. This derivative is defined as the integral in $α$ of the Caputo-Dzhrbashian fractional derivative of order $α\in (0,1)$ with a certain positive weight function. Such equations are used in physical literature for modeling diffusion with a logarithmic growth of the mean square displacement. In this work we develop a mathematical theory of such equations, study the derivatives and integrals of distributed order.

Weak Solutions of Stochastic Differential Equations over the Field of p-Adic Numbers

Study of stochastic differential equations on the field of p-adic numbers was initiated by the second author and has been developed by the first author, who proved several results for the p-adic case, similar to the theory of ordinary stochastic integral with respect to Levy processes on the Euclidean spaces. In this article, we present an improved definition of a stochastic integral on the field and prove the joint (time and space) continuity of the local time for p-adic stable processes. Then we use the method of random time change to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of a weak solution of a stochastic differential equation on the field, driven by the p-adic stable process, with a Borel measurable coefficient.

Evolution Equations and Functions of Hypergeometric Type over Fields of Positive Characteristic

We consider a class of partial differential equations with Carlitz derivatives over a local field of positive characteristic, for which an analog of the Cauchy problem is well-posed. Equations of such type correspond to quasi-holonomic modules over the ring of differential operators with Carlitz derivatives. The above class of equations includes some equations of hypergeometric type. Building on the work of Thakur, we develop his notion of the hypergeometric function of the first kind (whose parameters belonged initially to $\mathbb Z$) in such a way that it becomes fully an object of the function field arithmetic, with the variable, parameters and values from the field of positive characteristic.

Quasi-Holonomic Modules in Positive Characteristic

We study modules over the Carlitz ring, a counterpart of the Weyl algebra in analysis over local fields of positive characteristic. It is shown that some basic objects of function field arithmetic, like the Carlitz module, Thakur's hypergeometric polynomials, and analogs of binomial coefficients arising in the function field version of umbral calculus, generate quasi-holonomic modules. This class of modules is, in many respects, similar to the class of holonomic modules in the characteristic zero theory.

Hypergeometric Functions and Carlitz Differential Equations over Function Fields

The paper is a survey of recent results in analysis of additive functions over function fields motivated by applications to various classes of special functions including Thakur's hypergeometric function. We consider basic notions and results of calculus, analytic theory of differential equations with Carlitz derivatives (including a counterpart of regular singularity), umbral calculus, holonomic modules over the Weyl-Carlitz ring.

Strongly Nonlinear Differential Equations with Carlitz Derivatives over a Function Field

In earlier papers the author studied some classes of equations with Carlitz derivatives for $\mathbb F_q$-linear functions, which are the natural function field counterparts of linear ordinary differential equations. Here we consider equations containing self-compositions $u\circ u\circ ... \circ u$ of the unknown function. As an algebraic background, imbeddings of the composition ring of $\mathbb F_q$-linear holomorphic functions into skew fields are considered.

Umbral Calculus in Positive Characteristic

An umbral calculus over local fields of positive characteristic is developed on the basis of a relation of binomial type satisfied by the Carlitz polynomials. Orthonormal bases in the space of continuous $\mathbb F_q$-linear functions are constructed.

Interaction Measures on the Space of Distributions over the Field of p-Adic Numbers

We construct measures on the space $\mathcal D'(Q_p^n)$, $n\le 4$, of Bruhat-Schwartz distributions over the field of $p$-adic numbers, corresponding to finite volume polynomial interactions in a $p$-adic analog of the Euclidean quantum field theory. In contrast to earlier results in this direction, our choice of the free measure is the Gaussian measure corresponding to an elliptic pseudo-differential operator over $Q_p^n$. Analogs of the Euclidean $P(ϕ)$-theories with free and half-Dirichlet boundary conditions are considered.

Differential Equations for $F_q$-Linear Functions, II: Regular Singularity

We study some classes of equations with Carlitz derivatives for $F_q$-linear functions, which are the natural function field counterparts of linear ordinary differential equations with a regular singularity. In particular, an analog of the equation for the power function, the Fuchs and Euler type equations, and Thakur's hypergeometric equation are considered. Some properties of the above equations are similar to the classical case while others are different. For example, a simple model equation shows a possibility of existence of a non-trivial continuous locally analytic $F_q$-linear solution which vanishes on an open neighbourhood of the initial point. Part I: J. Number Theory, 83 (2000), 137-154.
