Analysis and Probability over Infinite Extensions of a Local Field, II: A Multiplicative Theory

Let $V$ be a projective limit, with respect to the renormalized norm mappings, of the groups of principal units corresponding to a strictly increasing sequence of finite separable totally and tamely ramified Galois extensions of a local field. We study the structure of the dual group $V'$, introduce and investigate a fractional differentiation operator on $V$, and the corresponding Lévy process. Part I: Potential Anal., 10 (1999), 305-325.

Hausdorff Measure for a Stable-Like Process over an Infinite Extension of a Local Field

We consider an infinite extension $K$ of a local field of zero characteristic which is a union of an increasing sequence of finite extensions. $K$ is equipped with an inductive limit topology; its conjugate $\bar{K}$ is a completion of $K$ with respect to a topology given by certain explicitly written seminorms. The semigroup of measures, which defines a stable-like process $X(t)$ on $\bar{K}$, is concentrated on a compact subgroup $S\subset \bar{K}$. We study properties of the process $X_S(t)$, a part of $X(t)$ in $S$. It is shown that the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the image of an interval equal 0 almost surely. In the case of tamely ramified extensions a correct Hausdorff measure for this set is found.

Differential Equations for F_q-Linear Functions

We study certain classes of equations for $F_q$-linear functions, which are the natural function field counterparts of linear ordinary differential equations. It is shown that, in contrast to both classical and $p$-adic cases, formal power series solutions have positive radii of convergence near a singular point of an equation. Algebraic properties of the ring of $F_q$-linear differential operators are also studied.

$F_q$-Linear Calculus over Function Fields

We define analogues of higher derivatives for $F_q$-linear functions over the field of formal Laurent series with coefficients in $F_q$. This results in a formula for Taylor coefficients of a $F_q$-linear holomorphic function, a definition of classes of $F_q$-linear smooth functions which are characterized in terms of coefficients of their Fourier-Carlitz expansions. A Volkenborn-type integration theory for $F_q$-linear functions is developed; in particular, an integral representation of the Carlitz logarithm is obtained.

Analysis and Probability over Infinite Extensions of a Local Field

We consider an infinite extension $K$ of a local field of zero characteristic which is a union of an increasing sequence of finite extensions. $K$ is equipped with an inductive limit topology; its conjugate $\bar{K}$ is a completion of $K$ with respect to a topology given by certain explicitly written seminorms. We construct and study a Gaussian measure, a Fourier transform, a fractional differentiation operator and a cadlag Markov process on $\bar{K}$. If we deal with Galois extensions then all these objects are Galois-invariant.

Fractional Differentiation Operator over an Infinite Extension of a Local Field

We study a fractional differentiation operator for functions on the conjugate space to an infinite extension of a local field of zero characteristic which is a union of an increasing sequence of finite extensions. In particular, a representation in the form of a hypersingular integral operator is obtained. It is also shown that the corresponding diffusion measure is not absolutely continuous with respect to the Gaussian measure.

Limit Theorems for Sums of p-Adic Random Variables

We study p-adic counterparts of stable distributions, that is limit distributions for sequences of normalized sums of independent identically distributed p-adic-valued random variables. In contrast to the classical case, non-degenerate limit distributions can be obtained only under certain assumptions on the asymptotic behaviour of the number of summands in the approximating sums. This asymptotics determines the ``exponent of stability''.

Harmonic Oscillator in Characteristic p

We construct an irreducible representation of the canonical commutation relations by operators on a certain Banach space over a local field of characteristic p. The Carlitz polynomials forming the basis of the space are shown to be the counterparts of the Hermite functions for this situation. The analogues of coherent states are related to the Carlitz exponential.
