Explaining $h\toμ^\pmτ^\mp$, $B\to K^* μ^+μ^-$ and $B\to K μ^+μ^-/B\to K e^+e^-$ in a two-Higgs-doublet model with gauged $L_μ-L_τ$

The LHC observed so far three deviations from the Standard Model (SM) predictions in flavour observables: LHCb reported anomalies in $B\to K^* μ^+μ^-$ and $R(K)=B\to K μ^+μ^-/B\to K e^+e^-$ while CMS found an excess in $h\toμτ$. We show, for the first time, how these deviations from the SM can be explained within a single well-motivated model: a two-Higgs-doublet model with gauged $L_μ-L_τ$ symmetry. We find that, despite the constraints from $τ\toμμμ$ and $B_s$--$\overline{B}_s$ mixing, one can explain $h \toμτ$, $B\to K^* μ^+μ^-$ and $R(K)$ simultaneously, obtaining interesting correlations among the observables.

Can the differences in the determinations of $V_{ub}$ and $V_{cb}$ be explained by New Physics?

The precise determination of the CKM elements $V_{cb}$ and $V_{ub}$ is crucial for any new physics analysis in the flavour sector. Their values can be determined from several tree-level decays: $V_{cb}$ can be extracted from $B\to D\ellν$ and $B\to D^*\ellν$ while $V_{ub}$ can be obtained from $B\to π\ellν$, $B\to ρ\ellν$ and $B\toτν$. In addition, for both $V_{cb }$ and $V_{ub}$ an inclusive determination is available. There is a long lasting discrepancy between the inclusive and exclusive determinations which recently even increased for $V_{cb}$ above the $3\;σ$ level. In this article we study the possible effect of new physics on the inclusive and exclusive determination of $V_{cb}$ and $V_{ub}$ in a model independent way. We find that there is only one operator corresponding to a modified $W$ coupling which can achieve this. However, respecting $SU(2)$ gauge invariance at the high scale this would lead to very large violations of the $Z$ to $b\bar b$ coupling not compatible with experiment. Therefore, we conclude that a new physics explanation of the difference between the inclusive and exclusive determination of $V_{cb}$ and $V_{ub}$ is currently ruled out. Therefore, the discrepancies must be due underestimated uncertainties in the theoretical and/or the experimental analysis.

Charged Higgs: Interpretation of $B$-physics results

In these proceedings we review the impact of additional Higgs bosons on $B$ physics observables. For this purpose, we consider first the 2HDM of type II which respects natural flavour conservation. Afterwards, we study a 2HDM with generic flavour structure (of type III). While constraints from $B_{s,d}\toμ^+μ^+$ impose stringent bounds on non-minimal flavour violation in the down sector, $b\to s,dγ$ can also constrain flavour violation in the up sector. Despite these stringent constraints and the recent CMS bounds from $A^0\toτ^+τ^-$ it is shown that still large effects in tauonic $B$ decays are possible, such that the BABAR measurements of these decays can be explained. The matching of the Yukawa sector of the MSSM on the 2HDM is discussed.

Dark matter direct detection constraints from gauge bosons loops

While many interactions of dark matter (DM) with the standard model (SM) affect direct detection and LHC searches, there are only a few operators generating annihilation of DM into photons. All of these operators, except four of them, give rise to unsuppressed rates, rendering indirect detection superior to other search strategies. For two of the four effective interactions with velocity-suppressed annihilation cross sections, we identify a new type of loop effect which significantly enhances the associated direct detection rates. As a result, relevant constraints from next-generation direct detection experiments on DM-SM interactions, so far only bounded by the LHC, are obtained.

Tauonic $B$ decays and Higgs mediated flavour violation

In these proceedings we review the impact of the tauonic $B$ decays $B\toτν$, $B\to Dτν$ and $B\to D^*τν$ on Higgs mediated flavour violation. For this purpose we study a 2HDM with generic flavour structure (of type III). We find that despite the stringent constraints from FCNC processes sizable effects in tauonic $B$ decays are possible if top-related flavour violation is large and that the tensions with the SM predictions can be resolved even when taking into account the recent CMS bounds on $A^0\toτ^+τ^-$.

1-loop SQCD corrections to the decay of top-squarks to charm and neutralino in the generic MSSM

In this article we calculate the 1-loop supersymmetric QCD (SQCD) corrections to the decay $\tilde u_1\to c \tildeχ^0_1$ in the MSSM with generic flavour structure. This decay mode is phenomenologically important if the mass difference between the lightest squark $\tilde u_1$ (which is assumed to be mainly stop-like) and the neutralino LSP $\tilde χ^0_1$ is smaller than the top mass. In such a scenario $\tilde u_1\to t \tildeχ^0_1$ is kinematically not allowed and searches for $\tilde u_1\to W b \tildeχ^0_1$ and $\tilde u_1\to c \tildeχ^0_1$ are performed. A large decay rate for $\tilde u_1\to c \tildeχ^0_1$ can weaken the LHC bounds from $\tilde u_1\to W b χ^0_1$ which are usually obtained under the assumption ${\rm Br}[\tilde u_1\to W b χ^0_1]=100\%$. We find the SQCD corrections enhance $Γ[\tilde u_1\to c \tildeχ^0_1]$ by approximately 10\% if the flavour-violation originates from bilinear terms. If flavour-violation originates from trilinear terms, the effect can be $\pm 50\%$ or more, depending on the sign of $A^t$. We note that connecting a theory of SUSY breaking to LHC observables, the shift from the $\overline{\rm DR}$ to the on-shell mass is numerically very important for light stop decays.

Challenges for New Physics in the Flavour Sector

In these proceedings I present a personal perspective of the challenges for new physics (NP) searches in the flavour sector. Since the CKM mechanism of flavour violation has been established to a very high precision, we know that physics beyond the Standard Model can only contribute sub-dominantly. Therefore, any realistic model of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) must respect the stringent constrains from flavour observables like $b\to s γ$, $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$, $ΔF=2$ processes etc., in a first step. In a second step, it is interesting to ask the question if some deviations from the SM predictions (like the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon or recently observed discrepancies in tauonic $B$ decays or $B\to K^*μ^+μ^-$) can be explained by a model of NP without violating bounds from other observables.

Overview of flavour physics with focus on the MSSM and 2HDMs

In these proceedings we give a concise review of some selected flavour-violation processes and their implications for two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs) and the MSSM. The processes under investigation are $ΔF=2$ processes, $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$, $b\to sγ$, and tauonic $B$ decays. For each process we show the impact on the models.

Improved predictions for $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei and Higgs-induced lepton flavor violation

Compared to $μ\to e γ$ and $μ\to e e e$, the process $μ\to e$ conversion in nuclei receives enhanced contributions from Higgs-induced lepton flavor violation. Upcoming $μ\to e$ conversion experiments with drastically increased sensitivity will be able to put extremely stringent bounds on Higgs-mediated $μ\to e$ transitions. We point out that the theoretical uncertainties associated with these Higgs effects, encoded in the couplings of quark scalar operators to the nucleon, can be accurately assessed using our recently developed approach based on $SU(2)$ Chiral Perturbation Theory that cleanly separates two- and three-flavor observables. We emphasize that with input from lattice QCD for the coupling to strangeness $f_s^N$, hadronic uncertainties are appreciably reduced compared to the traditional approach where $f_s^N$ is determined from the pion--nucleon $σ$-term by means of an $SU(3)$ relation. We illustrate this point by considering Higgs-mediated lepton flavor violation in the Standard Model supplemented with higher-dimensional operators, the two-Higgs-doublet model with generic Yukawa couplings, and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Furthermore, we compare bounds from present and future $μ\to e$ conversion and $μ\to e γ$ experiments.

New Constraints on Dark Matter Effective Theories from Standard Model Loops

We consider an effective field theory for a gauge singlet Dirac dark matter (DM) particle interacting with the Standard Model (SM) fields via effective operators suppressed by the scale $Λ\gtrsim 1$ TeV. We perform a systematic analysis of the leading loop contributions to spin-independent (SI) DM--nucleon scattering using renormalization group evolution between $Λ$ and the low-energy scale probed by direct detection experiments. We find that electroweak interactions induce operator mixings such that operators that are naively velocity-suppressed and spin-dependent can actually contribute to SI scattering. This allows us to put novel constraints on Wilson coefficients that were so far poorly bounded by direct detection. Constraints from current searches are comparable to LHC bounds, and will significantly improve in the near future. Interestingly, the loop contribution we find is maximally isospin violating even if the underlying theory is isospin conserving.

Higgs mediated Flavour Violation in 2HDMs and the MSSM -- An Overview

In these proceedings we review the flavour phenomenology of two-Higgs-doublet models (2HDMs) and connect the results to the decoupling limit of the MSSM. We first study the impact of FCNC constraints on the allowed parameter space of the 2HDM and examine how recent deviations from the SM expectations in tauonic $B$ decays (observed by BABAR) can be explained in a 2HDM with generic flavour structure (of type III) with sizable flavour violation in the up-sector. Afterwards, we discusses the matching of the MSSM on the 2HDM of type III. Here we focus on the two-loop SQCD corrections to the Higgs-quark-quark couplings.

Accurate evaluation of hadronic uncertainties in spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering: Disentangling two- and three-flavor effects

We show how to avoid unnecessary and uncontrolled assumptions usually made in the literature about soft SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking in determining the two-flavor nucleon matrix elements relevant for direct detection of WIMPs. Based on SU(2) Chiral Perturbation Theory, we provide expressions for the proton and neutron scalar couplings $f_u^{p,n}$ and $f_d^{p,n}$ with the pion-nucleon sigma-term as the only free parameter, which should be used in the analysis of direct detection experiments. This approach for the first time allows for an accurate assessment of hadronic uncertainties in spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering and for a reliable calculation of isospin-violating effects. We find that the traditional determinations of $f_u^p-f_u^n$ and $f_d^p-f_d^n$ are off by a factor of 2.

Lepton Flavor Violation in the Standard Model with general Dimension-Six Operators

We study lepton flavor observables in the Standard Model (SM) extended with all dimension-$6$ operators which are invariant under the SM gauge group. We calculate the complete one-loop predictions to the radiative lepton decays $μ\to eγ$, $τ\to μγ$ and $τ\to eγ$ as well as to the closely related anomalous magnetic moments and electric dipole moments of charged leptons, taking into account all dimension-$6$ operators which can generate lepton flavor violation. Also the 3-body flavor violating charged lepton decays $τ^\pm \to μ^\pm μ^+ μ^-$, $τ^\pm\to e^\pm e^+ e^- $, $τ^\pm \to e^\pm μ^+ μ^- $, $τ^\pm \to μ^\pm e^+ e^- $, $τ^\pm \to e^\mp μ^\pm μ^\pm$, $τ^\pm \to μ^\mp e^\pm e^\pm $ and $μ^\pm \to e^\pm e^+ e^-$ and the $Z^0$ decays $Z^0\to\ell_i^+\ell_j^-$ are considered, taking into account all tree-level contributions.

Flavour-violation in two-Higgs-doublet models

In these proceedings we review the flavour phenomenology of 2HDMs with generic Yukawa structures. We first consider the quark sector and find that despite the stringent constraints from FCNC processes large effects in tauonic B decays are still possible. We then consider lepton flavour observables, show correlations between μ-> eγand μ^- -> e^-e^+e^- in the 2HDM of type III and give upper bounds on the lepton flavour violating B decay B_d -> μe.

SUSY_FLAVOR library for rare decays in the MSSM

SUSY_FLAVOUR 2.0 is a FORTRAN code calculating over 30 low-energy flavour- and CP-related observables in the R-parity conserving MSSM. The code admits for the most general flavour structure of the SUSY breaking terms and complex flavour-diagonal couplings. It includes the numerically important resummation of chirally enhanced effects and it is fast enough for scanning over a large SUSY-parameter space. The program can be obtained from http://www.fuw.edu.pl/susy_flavor.

Complete resummation of chirally-enhanced loop-effects in the MSSM with non-minimal sources of flavor-violation

In this article we present the complete resummation of the leading chirally-enhanced corrections stemming from gluino-squark, chargino-sfermion and neutralino-sfermion loops in the MSSM with non-minimal sources of flavor-violation. We compute the finite renormalization of fermion masses and the CKM matrix induced by chirality-flipping self-energies. In the decoupling limit Msusy>>v, which is an excellent approximation to the full theory, we give analytic results for the effective gaugino(higgsino)-fermion-sfermion and the Higgs-fermion-fermion vertices. Using these vertices as effective Feynman rules, all leading chirally-enhanced corrections can consistently be included into perturbative calculations of Feynman amplitudes. We also give a generalized parametrization for the bare CKM matrix which extends the classic Wolfenstein parametrization to the case of complex parameters lambda and A.

Two-loop SQCD corrections to Higgs-quark-quark couplings in the generic MSSM

In this article we compute the two-loop SQCD corrections to Higgs-quark-quark couplings in the generic MSSM generated by diagrams involving squarks and gluinos. We give analytic results for the two-loop contributions in the limit of vanishing external momenta for general SUSY masses valid in the MSSM with general flavour-structure. Working in the decoupling limit (M_SUSY >> v) we resum all chirally enhanced corrections (related to Higgs-quark-quark couplings) up to order α_s^(n+1) tan(β)^n. This resummation allows for a more precise determination of the Yukawa coupling and CKM elements of the MSSM superpotential necessary for the study of Yukawa coupling unification. The knowledge of the Yukawa couplings of the MSSM superpotential in addition allows us to derive the effective Higgs-quark-quark couplings entering FCNC processes. These effective vertices can in addition be used for the calculation of Higgs decays into quarks as long as M_SUSY > M_Higgs holds. Furthermore, our calculation is also necessary for consistently including the chirally enhanced self-energies contributions into the calculation of FCNC processes in the MSSM beyond leading order. At two-loop order, we find an enhancement of the SUSY threshold corrections, induced by the quark self-energies, of approximately 9% for μ=M_SUSY compared to the one-loop result. At the same time, the matching scale dependence of the effective Higgs-quark-quark couplings is significantly reduced.

Flavor-phenomenology of two-Higgs-doublet models with generic Yukawa structure

We perform an extensive study of flavor observables in a 2HDM with generic Yukawa structure (the decoupling limit of the MSSM). We examine the effects in flavor physics and constrain the model both from tree-level processes and loop-observables. The free parameters of the model are the heavy Higgs mass, tan(β) and the "non-holomorphic" Yukawa couplings ε^f_ij (f=u,d,\ell). In our analysis we constrain the elements ε^f_ij in various ways: In a first step we give order of magnitude constraints on ε^f_ij from 't Hooft's naturalness criterion. Then we constrain the Yukawa structure of the type-III 2HDM from tree-level FCNC processes (B_s,d->μ^+μ^-, τ^-->μ^-μ^+μ^-, etc.) and observe that all flavor off-diagonal elements except ε^u_32,31 and ε^u_23,13 must be very small in order to satisfy the experimental bounds. In a third step, we consider Higgs mediated loop contributions to FCNC processes (b->s,dγ, μ->eγ, etc.) finding that also ε^u_13 and ε^u_23 must be very small, while the bounds on ε^u_31 and ε^u_32 are especially weak. Taking into account the constraints from FCNC processes we study the possible size of contributions from tree-level charged Higgs exchange. Interestingly, the unconstrained elements ε^u_{32,31} enter directly the branching ratios for B->τν, B->Dτνand B->D*τνand we show that the deviations from the SM predictions in these processes can be explained simultaneously. We give upper limits on the branching ratios of the lepton flavor-violating neutral B meson decays and correlate the radiative lepton decays to the corresponding neutral current lepton decays (τ^- ->μ^-μ^+μ^-, τ^- ->e^-μ^+μ^- and μ^- ->e^-e^+e^-). A detailed appendix contains all relevant information for the considered processes for general scalar-fermion-fermion couplings.
