On the Vinberg Family of K3 Surfaces

We study orthogonal modular forms associated with moduli spaces of lattice-polarized K3 surfaces whose generic transcendental lattices are of the form $T = H \oplus H \oplus L(-1)$ where $L$ is a root lattice of type $A_n$ or $D_n$. In Picard numbers $10$ through $17$, we use explicit Jacobian elliptic fibrations to construct modular forms on type IV domains associated with orthogonal groups $\mathrm{O}^+(T)$. We show that the coefficients of suitable Weierstrass models naturally realize generators for the corresponding graded rings of orthogonal modular forms.

Kummer Surfaces, Isogenies and Theta Functions

The paper discusses geometric and computational aspects associated with $(n,n)$-isogenies for principally polarized Abelian surfaces and related Kummer surfaces. We start by reviewing the comprehensive Theta function framework for classifying genus-two curves, their principally polarized Jacobians, as well as for establishing explicit quartic normal forms for associated Kummer surfaces. This framework is then used for practical isogeny computations. A particular focus of the discussion is the $(n,n)$-Split isogeny case. We also explore possible extensions of Richelot's $(2,2)$-isogenies to higher order cases, with a view towards developing efficient isogeny computation algorithms.

K3 Surfaces and Orthogonal Modular Forms

We determine explicit generators for the ring of modular forms associated with the moduli spaces of K3 surfaces with automorphism group $(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^2$ and of Picard rank 13 and higher. The K3 surfaces in question carry a canonical Jacobian elliptic fibration and the modular form generators appear as coefficients in the Weierstrass-type equations describing these fibrations.

On two-elementary K3 surfaces with finite automorphism group

We study complex algebraic K3 surfaces of Picard ranks 11,12, and 13 of finite automorphism group that admit a Jacobian elliptic fibration with a section of order two. We prove that the K3 surfaces admit a birational model isomorphic to a projective quartic hypersurface and construct geometrically the frames of all supported Jacobian elliptic fibrations. We determine the dual graphs of all smooth rational curves for these K3 surfaces, the polarizing divisors, and the embedding of the reducible fibers in each frame into the corresponding dual graph.

Orientifolds for F-theory on K3 Surfaces

We study F-theory orientifolds, starting with products of two elliptic curves, but focusing mostly on a family of K3 surfaces, lattice polarized by the rank-17 lattice $\langle 8 \rangle \oplus 2D_8(-1)$, generalizing the family (to which it degenerates) of Kummer surfaces of products of two non-isogenous elliptic curves. After a thorough study of the complex geometry of this family and its elliptic fibrations, we proceed to study real structures on the K3 surfaces in the family which are equivariant with respect to an elliptic fibration. We also study the physics of the associated F-theory orientifolds with a particular focus on the impact of the real structure on the charge spectrum. We also study how these orientifolds degenerate to the case of isotrivial Kummer surface fibrations.

On Néron-Severi lattices of Jacobian elliptic K3 surfaces

We classify all Jacobian elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces with finite automorphism group. We also classify all Jacobian elliptic fibrations with finite Mordell-Weil group on K3 surfaces with infinite automorphism group and 2-elementary Néron-Severi lattice. As part of the classification, we compute the lattice theoretic multiplicities of all Jacobian elliptic fibrations in both cases.

Twists, Eisenstein series, and Instantons in Local Mirror Symmetry

We propose a mechanism for computing the genus zero invariants of local Calabi-Yau fourfolds arising as the total space of the canonical bundle of a rank-1 Fano threefold. Our method relies heavily on modular parameterizations of the associated Landau-Ginzburg model, as well as extension regulator classes and higher normal functions studied by Doran and Kerr in this setting. The generating function of the local invariants is proposed as a functional inverse of a weight-4 modular form of Eisenstein type that is naturally computed from the mirror data, in analogy with some known results for local threefolds that computes genus zero Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. Using the twist construction of Doran and the first named author, these two constructions are connected via Doran's generalized functional invariant map on the periods.

On holomorphic conformal structures associated with lattice polarized K3 surfaces

We discuss the connection between Picard-Fuchs equations for certain families of lattice polarized K3 surfaces and the construction of integrable holomorphic conformal structures on their period domains. We then compute an explicit example of a locally conformally flat holomorphic metric associated with generic Jacobian Kummer surfaces, which allows for a novel description of the local variation of complex structure.

On K3 surfaces of Picard rank 14

We study complex algebraic K3 surfaces with finite automorphism groups and polarized by rank-fourteen, 2-elementary lattices. Three such lattices exist, namely $H \oplus E_8(-1) \oplus A_1(-1)^{\oplus 4}$, $H \oplus E_8(-1) \oplus D_4(-1)$, and $H \oplus D_8(-1) \oplus D_4(-1)$. As part of our study, we provide birational models for these surfaces as quartic projective hypersurfaces and describe the associated coarse moduli spaces in terms of suitable modular invariants. Additionally, we explore the connection between these families and dual K3 families related via the Nikulin construction.

On projective K3 surfaces $\mathcal{X}$ with $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathcal{X})=(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^2$

We prove that every K3 surface with automorphism group $(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^2$ admits an explicit birational model as a double sextic surface. This model is canonical for Picard number greater than 10. For Picard number greater than 9, the K3 surfaces in question possess a second birational model, in the form of a projective quartic hypersurface, generalizing the Inose quartic.

On the duality of F-theory and the CHL string in seven dimensions

We show that the duality between F-theory and the CHL string in seven dimensions defines algebraic correspondences between K3 surfaces polarized by the rank-ten lattices $H \oplus N$ and $H\oplus E_8(-2)$. In the special case when the F-theory admits an additional anti-symplectic involution or, equivalently, the CHL string admits a symplectic one, both moduli spaces coincide. In this case, we derive an explicit parametrization for the F-theory compactifications dual to the CHL string, using an auxiliary genus-one curve, based on a construction given by André Weil.

Jacobian elliptic fibrations on the generalized Inose quartic of Picard rank sixteen

We consider the family of complex algebraic K3 surfaces $\mathcal{X}$ with Picard lattice containing the unimodular lattice $H \oplus E_7(-1) \oplus E_7(-1)$. The surface $\mathcal{X}$ admits a birational model isomorphic to a quartic hypersurface that generalizes the Inose quartic. We prove that a general member of this family admits exactly four inequivalent Jacobian elliptic fibrations and construct explicit pencils for them.

The duality between F-theory and the Heterotic String in $D=8$ with two Wilson lines

We construct non-geometric string compactifications by using the F-theory dual of the heterotic string compactified on a two-torus with two Wilson line parameters, together with a close connection between modular forms and the equations for certain K3 surfaces of Picard rank $16$. We construct explicit Weierstrass models for all inequivalent Jacobian elliptic fibrations supported on this family of K3 surfaces and express their parameters in terms of modular forms generalizing Siegel modular forms. In this way, we find a complete list of all dual non-geometric compactifications obtained by the partial higgsing of the heterotic string gauge algebra using two Wilson line parameters.

On the mixed-twist construction and monodromy of associated Picard-Fuchs systems

We use the mixed-twist construction of Doran and Malmendier to obtain a multi-parameter family of K3 surfaces of Picard rank $ρ\ge 16$. Upon identifying a particular Jacobian elliptic fibration on its general member, we determine the lattice polarization and the Picard-Fuchs system for the family. We construct a sequence of restrictions that lead to extensions of the polarization by two-elementary lattices. We show that the Picard-Fuchs operators for the restricted families coincide with known resonant hypergeometric systems. Second, for the one-parameter mirror families of deformed Fermat hypersurfaces we show that the mixed-twist construction produces a non-resonant GKZ system for which a basis of solutions in the form of absolutely convergent Mellin-Barnes integrals exists whose monodromy we compute explicitly.

Isogenies of certain K3 surfaces of rank 18

We construct geometric isogenies between three types of two-parameter families of K3 surfaces of Picard rank 18. One is the family of Kummer surfaces associated with Jacobians of genus-two curves admitting an elliptic involution, another is the family of Kummer surfaces associated with the product of two non-isogeneous elliptic curves, and the third is the twisted Legendre pencil. The isogenies imply the existence of algebraic correspondences between these K3 surfaces and prove that the associated four-dimensional Galois representations are isomorphic. We also apply our result to several subfamilies of Picard rank 19. The result generalizes work of van Geemen and Top.

Geometry of Prym varieties for special bielliptic curves of genus three and five

We construct two pencils of bielliptic curves of genus three and genus five. The first pencil is associated with a general abelian surface with a polarization of type $(1,2)$. The second pencil is related to the first by an unramified double cover, the Prym variety of which is canonically isomorphic to the Jacobian of a very general curve of genus two. Our results are obtained by analyzing suitable elliptic fibrations on the associated Kummer surfaces and rational double covers among them.

Application of the Biot-Savart Law to Parabolic Vortex Segments using Elliptic Integrals

The Biot-Savart law is used in aerodynamic theory to calculate the velocity induced by curved vortex lines. Explicit formulas are developed, using multivariate Appell hypergeometric functions, for the velocity induced by a general parabolic vortex segment. The formulas are derived by constructing a particular pencil of elliptic curves whose period integrals provide the solution to the induced velocity. We use numerical integration and a perturbation expansion to evaluate the validity of our formulas.

Kummer sandwiches and Greene-Plesser construction

In the context of K3 mirror symmetry, the Greene-Plesser orbifolding method constructs a family of K3 surfaces, the mirror of quartic hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$, starting from a special one-parameter family of K3 varieties known as the quartic Dwork pencil. We show that certain K3 double covers obtained from the three-parameter family of quartic Kummer surfaces associated with a principally polarized abelian surface generalize the relation of the Dwork pencil and the quartic mirror family. Moreover, for the three-parameter family we compute a formula for the rational point-count of its generic member and derive its transformation behavior with respect to $(2,2)$-isogenies of the underlying abelian surface.
