A note about late-time wave tails on a dynamical background

Consider a spherically symmetric spacetime generated by a self-gravitating massless scalar field $ϕ$ and let $ψ$ be a test (nonspherical) massless scalar field propagating on this dynamical background. Gundlach, Price, and Pullin \cite{gpp2} computed numerically the late-time tails for different multipoles of the field $ψ$ and suggested that solutions with compactly supported initial data decay in accord with Price's law as $t^{-(2\ell+3)}$ at timelike infinity. We show that in the case of the time-dependent background Price's law holds only for $\ell=0$ while for each $\ell\geq 1$ the tail decays as $t^{-(2\ell+2)}$.

Late-time tails of a self-gravitating massless scalar field, revisited

We discuss the nonlinear origin of the power-law tail in the long-time evolution of a spherically symmetric self-gravitating massless scalar field in even-dimensional spacetimes. Using third-order perturbation method, we derive explicit expressions for the tail (the decay rate and the amplitude) for solutions starting from small initial data and we verify this prediction via numerical integration of the Einstein-scalar field equations in four and six dimensions. Our results show that the coincidence of decay rates of linear and nonlinear tails in four dimensions (which has misguided some tail hunters in the past) is in a sense accidental and does not hold in higher dimensions.

Late-time tails of wave maps coupled to gravity

We consider the late-time asymptotic behavior for solutions of Einstein's equations with the wave map matter. Solutions starting from small compactly supported $\ell$-equivariant initial data with $\ell\geq 1$ are shown to decay as $t^{-(2\ell+2)}$ at future timelike infinity and as $u^{-(\ell+1)}$ at future null infinity.

A note on late-time tails of spherical nonlinear waves

We consider the long-time behavior of small amplitude solutions of the semilinear wave equation $\Box ϕ=ϕ^p$ in odd $d\geq 5$ spatial dimensions. We show that for the quadratic nonlinearity ($p=2$) the tail has an anomalously small amplitude and fast decay. The extension of the results to more general nonlinearities involving first derivatives is also discussed.

Anomalously small wave tails in higher dimensions

We consider the late-time tails of spherical waves propagating on even-dimensional Minkowski spacetime under the influence of a long range radial potential. We show that in six and higher even dimensions there exist exceptional potentials for which the tail has an anomalously small amplitude and fast decay. Along the way we clarify and amend some confounding arguments and statements in the literature of the subject.

On asymptotic stability of the Skyrmion

We study the asymptotic behavior of spherically symmetric solutions in the Skyrme model. We show that the relaxation to the degree-one soliton (called the Skyrmion) has a universal form of a superposition of two effects: exponentially damped oscillations (the quasinormal ringing) and a power law decay (the tail). The quasinormal ringing, which dominates the dynamics for intermediate times, is a linear resonance effect. In contrast, the polynomial tail, which becomes uncovered at late times, is shown to be a \emph{nonlinear} phenomenon.

Late-time tails of a Yang-Mills field on Minkowski and Schwarzschild backgrounds

We study the late-time behavior of spherically symmetric solutions of the Yang-Mills equations on Minkowski and Schwarzschild backgrounds. Using nonlinear perturbation theory we show in both cases that solutions having smooth compactly supported initial data posses tails which decay as $t^{-4}$ at timelike infinity. Moreover, for small initial data on Minkowski background we derive the third-order formula for the amplitude of the tail and confirm numerically its accuracy.

Quasinormal frequencies of D-dimensional Schwarzschild black holes: evaluation via continued fraction method

We adopt Leaver's method to determine quasi normal frequencies of the Schwarzschild black hole in higher (D >= 10) dimensions. In D-dimensional Schwarzschild metric, when D increases, more and more singularities, spaced uniformly on the unit circle |r|=1, approach the horizon at r = r_h = 1. Thus, a solution satisfying the outgoing wave boundary condition at the horizon must be continued to some mid point and only then the continued fraction condition can be applied. This prescription is general and applies to all cases for which, due to regular singularities on the way from the point of interest to the irregular singularity, Leaver's method in its original setting breaks down. We illustrate the method calculating gravitational vector and tensor quasinormal frequencies of the Schwarzschild black hole in D=11 and D=10 dimensions. We also give the details for the D=9 case, considered in gr-qc/0511064.

Pion Generalized Distribution Amplitudes in the Nonlocal Chiral Quark Model

We use a simple, instanton motivated, nonlocal chiral quark model to calculate pion Generalized Distribution Amplitudes (GDAs). The nonlocality appears due to the momentum dependence of the constituent quark mass, which we take in a form of a generalized dipole formula. With this choice all calculations can be performed directly in the Minkowski space and the sensitivity to the shape of the cutoff function can be studied. We demonstrate that the model fulfills soft pion theorems both for chirally even and chirally odd GDAs. The latter one cannot be derived by the methods of current algebra. Whenever possible we compare our results with the existing data. This can be done for the pion electromagnetic form factor and quark distributions as measured in the proton-pion scattering.

Pion Generalized Parton Distributions in the Non-Local NJL Model

We calculate skewed parton distributions $H^I$ of a pion within a non-local NJL model with momentum dependent constituent quark mass $M(k)$. In the forward limit $H^I$ correspond to parton distributions, whereas for $t<0$, $H^I$ is related to the pion electromagnetic form-factor

Pion and vacuum properties in the nonlocal NJL model

We formulate the nonlocal NJL model with a momentum dependent constituent quark mass and calculate pion light cone wave functions of twist 2 and 3. The leading twist wave function is not asymptotic and agrees well with the new CLEO data. Normalization conditions for the twist 3 wave functions are used to calculate the quark condensate. A prescription to calculate the gluon condensate is proposed. The numerical value of the gluon condensate nicely agrees with the phenomenological value, whereas the quark condensate is larger than the phenomenological value of $-(250$ MeV$)^3$. The relation between the $k_T^2$ moments and mixed condensates are used to estimate the mixed quark-gluon condensate of dimension 5.

Spectrum of the Odderon Charge for Arbitrary Conformal Weights

The odderon equation is studied in terms of the variable suggested by the modular invariance of the 3 Reggeon system. Odderon charge is identified with the cross-product of three conformal spins. A complete set of commuting operators: h^2 and q is diagonalized and quantization conditions for eigenvalues of the odderon charge q are solved for arbitrary conformal weight h.
