Effects of lepton number violating interactions on $t \bar t$ production at NLC

We discuss the effects of lepton number violating interactions namely, R-parity violation and leptoquarks on top quark pair production at the upcoming $e^+ e^-$ linear colliders. Effects of SU(2) singlet, doublet and triplet leptoquark interactions are investigated. R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model also allows certain kinds of lepton number violating interactions which are same as singlet leptoquarks with left-handed interactions. We have calculated the cross-section of $e^+ e^- \to t \bar t$ in presence of the above interactions. With conservative values of lepton number violating coupling strengths we got enhancement of top-pair production cross-section in all of the above cases.

Signals of neutralinos and charginos from gauge boson fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We point out that interesting signals of the non-strongly interacting sector of the supersymmetric standard model arise from the production of charginos and neutralinos via vector boson fusion (VBF) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In particular, if R-parity is violated, the hadronically quiet signals of charginos and neutralinos through direct production get considerably suppressed. We show that in such cases, the VBF channel can be useful in identifying this sector through clean and background-free final states.

Heavy quark production via supersymmetric interaction at a neutrino factory

We investigate b-quark production in both charged and neutral current channels through neutrino-nucleon scattering at a neutrino factory, mediated by the lepton flavour violating interactions present in a supersymmetric theory with broken R-parity. Using values of the effctive interaction strengths well below the current and projected experimental bounds, we are still able to predict markedly enhanced event rates, especially for the neutral current events which are not allowed at the lowest order in the standard model (SM). Data from neutrino factories can therefore be used to probe strengths of such interactions to considerably higher precision than what can be envisioned in other experiments.

Signals of R-parity Violating Supersymmetry at a Muon Storage Ring

Neutrino oscillation signals at muon storage rings (MSR) can be mimicked by Supersymmetric (SUSY) interactions in an R-parity violating scenario. We have investigated the $τ$-appearance signals for both long-baseline and near-site experiments, and concluded that the latter is of great use in distinguishing between oscillation and SUSY effects. On the other hand, SUSY can cause a manifold increase in the event rate for wrong-sign muons at a long-baseline setting, thereby providing us with signatures of new physics.

Probing the violation of equivalence principle at a muon storage ring via neutrino oscillation

We examine the possible tests of violation of the gravitational equivalence principle (VEP) at a muon storage ring via neutrino oscillation experiments. If the gravitational interactions of the neutrinos are not diagonal in the flavour basis and the gravitational interaction eigenstates have different couplings to the gravitational field, this leads to the neutrino oscillation. If one starts with $μ^+$ beam then appearance of $τ^\pm$, $e ^+$ and $μ^-$ in the final state are the signals for neutrino oscillation. We have estimated the number of $μ^-$ events in this scenario in $ν_μ-N$ deep inelastic scattering. Final state lepton energy distribution can be used to distinguish the VEP scenario from the others. A large area of VEP parameter space can be explored at a future muon storage ring facility with moderate beam energy.

A nonsupersymmetric resolution of the anomalous muon magnetic moment

The recent result from the E821 experiment at BNL on the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon shows a distinct discrepancy with the Standard Model predictions. We calculate the additional correction that the anomalous magnetic moment receives in a model with scalar leptoquarks. We find that such models can account for the deviation from the SM value even for small leptoquark couplings.

New Higgs signals from vector boson fusion in R-parity violating supersymmetry

We investigate signals of the lightest neutral Higgs in an R-parity violating supersymmetric model through the vector boson fusion mechanism. Assuming that R-parity is violated through lepton number, and locating regions in the parameter space where decays of such a neutral scalar into a pair of lightest neutralinos can be significant, we proceed to calculate the event rates for final states arising from decays of the neutralinos through both $λ$-and $λ'$-type interactions. Regions of the parameter space where each of these types of interactions can lead to detectable events are identified. The possibilities where such signals can be faked by other superparticles (squarks, gluinos, charginos and neutralinos) are also investigated. It is found that over a sizable region, one can obtain distinguishable signals of an intermediate mass neutral scalar from a study of the suggested final states at the Large Hadron Collider.

LHC Signature of the Minimal SUGRA Model with a Large Soft Scalar Mass

Thanks to the focus point phenomenon, it is quite {\it natural} for the minimal SUGRA model to have a large soft scalar mass m_0 > 1 TeV. A distinctive feature of this model is an inverted hierarchy, where the lighter stop has a significantly smaller mass than the other squarks and sleptons. Consequently, the gluino is predicted to decay dominantly via stop exchange into a channel containing 2b and 2W along with the LSP. We exploit this feature to construct a robust signature for this model at the LHC in leptonic channels with 3-4 b-tags and a large missing-E_T.

Signatures of the Light Down-Squark Scenario at the Upgraded Tevatron

In scenarios with relatively light down squarks, motivated, e.g., by SO(10) D terms, jets + missing $E_T$ signals can be observed at the luminosity upgraded Tevatron even if the squarks are much heavier than the gluinos and the common gaugino mass ($M_{1/2}$) at $M_G$ lies above the LEP allowed lower bound. In the conventional mSUGRA model with heavy squarks practically no signal is expected in this channel. The possiblity of distinguishing between various SUGRA motivated scenarios by exploiting the missing $E_T$ and jet $p_T$ distributions, opposite sign dileptons + jets + missing $E_T$ events and clean trilepton signals have been discussed.

Prospects of Squark & Slepton searches at a Gamma Gamma Collider

We examine the prospects of detecting sfermions at a gamma gamma collider. Once produced, a slepton can decay into a pair of quarks (jets) through R-parity violating interactions. Similarly, a squark may decay into a lepton-quark pair. Analyzing the corresponding Standard Model backgrounds, namely 4-jet and dilepton plus dijet final states respectively, we show that the sfermion can be detected almost right upto the kinematic limit and its mass determined to a fair degree of accuracy. Similar statements also hold for nonsupersymmetric leptoquarks and diquarks.

Mass bounds for Triplet Scalars of the Left-Right symmetric model and their future detection prospects

The standard formulation of the Left-Right symmetric model involves scalars transforming as a triplet under SU(2)L. This multiplet contains particles which are uncharged, singly-charged, and doubly-charged. We derive a bound on the uncharged scalar mass of 55.4 GeV using results from LEP-II and find that a range upto 110 GeV may be explored at the NLC at the 5sigma level. We also discuss search strategies for the singly- and doubly-charged scalars at the Tevatron and the LHC. Possible Standard Model backgrounds for the relevant modes are estimated and compared with the signal. At the LHC, the prospects of detecting the doubly-charged scalar are bright up to a mass of 850 GeV while the 5sigma discovery limit of the singly-charged mode extends to 240 GeV for an integrated luminosity of 100 inverse fb. At the Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of 25 inverse fb, the doubly-charged state can be detected if its mass is less than 275 GeV while the reach for the singly charged scalar is 140 GeV.

Production of light stabilized radion at high energy hadron collider

In this paper we use the conformal anomaly in QCD to derive the coupling of light radion to gluons in the Randall-Sundrum model and use it to compute the radion production cross section at hadron colliders by gluon fusion. We find that the radion production cross section by gluon fusion at LHC would exceed that of the higgs boson by a factor that lies between 7 and 8 over most of the range. The decay modes of the radion are similar to that of the SM higgs boson. But the striking feature is the enhancement of radion to 2-photon and radion to 2-gluon branching ratio over the SM case. Utilising this, we then discuss the possible search strategies of such scalars at Tevatron and LHC. Using the $γγ$ decay mode one can explore/exclude radion mass upto 1 TeV. Even with the current collected data at the Tevatron, one can exclude radion mass upto 120 GeV for $\vphi$= 1 TeV.

Higgs Boson Signals in Three b-jet Final States at the Fermilab Tevatron

At the Fermilab Tevatron, final states with three tagged b-jets could play an important role in searches for a Higgs boson with mass in the range 100-300 GeV. These signals arise from gb fusion and we demonstrate their observability in the limit of a large b-quark Yukawa coupling. Rather promising discovery limits on such a coupling are obtained and consequent effects on the parameter space of the Higgs-boson sector in the MSSM are discussed.

Next to Minimal Higgs : Mass Bounds and Search Prospects

The Standard Model of electroweak interactions has one scalar doublet. The minimal extension of this sector is effected by adding a neutral, singlet scalar field. Depending on whether the singlet field has a non-zero vacuum expectation value, x, or not, the scenario has quite distinctive predictions. In particular, x unequal to 0 produces a mixing between the usual SU(2) doublet and the singlet, giving rise to two physical states and a goldstone boson with non-vanishing coupling to these. Presence of this coupling modifies the 2 jets + missing energy signal of the Bjorken process at LEP. We update the bounds on the Higgs mass using the LEP-1 data. We then explore, using parton-level Monte Carlo event generators, the production of these scalars at the LHC via gluon-gluon fusion and subsequent detection. We compare the signals with the expected backgrounds.

Singlet-Higgs-Boson Signals at Hadron Colliders

Many extensions of the Standard Model include $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ singlet higgs bosons, $h^0$, and also vectorlike fermions which couple to it. The production and detection possibilities of such singlet neutral scalars at hadron colliders are considered for different scenarios of vectorlike fermions. We find that for some values of masses and couplings, detection at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) appears to be a distinct possibility, while at the Fermilab Tevatron upgrade the $h^0$ might be observed only in very favourable circumstances.
