Light vector mesons ($ω$, $ρ$ and $ϕ$) in strong magnetic fields: A QCD sum rule approach

The mass modifications of the light vector mesons ($ω$, $ρ$ and $ϕ$) are investigated in asymmetric nuclear matter in the presence of strong magnetic fields, using a QCD sum rule approach. These are computed from the medium modifications of the non-strange and strange light quark condensates as well as scalar gluon condensate. The quark and gluon condensates are calculated from the medium changes of the scalar fields (non-strange and strange) and a scalar dilaton field in the magnetized nuclear matter, within a chiral SU(3) model. The scalar dilaton field within the model breaks the scale invariance of QCD and simulates the gluon condensate. The anomalous magnetic moments for the nucleons are taken into account in the present study.

A new characterization of generalized Browder's theorem and a Cline's formula for generalized Drazin-meromorphic inverses

In this paper, we give a new characterization of generalized Browder's theorem by considering equality between the generalized Drazin-meromorphic Weyl spectrum and the generalized Drazin-meromorphic spectrum. Also, we generalize Cline's formula to the case of generalized Drazin-meromorphic invertibility under the assumption that $A^kB^kA^k=A^{k+1}$ for some positive integer $k$.

Enhanced Gilbert Damping in Re doped FeCo Films: A Combined Experimental and Theoretical Study

The effects of rhenium doping in the range 0 to 10 atomic percent on the static and dynamic magnetic properties of Fe65Co35 thin films have been studied experimentally as well as with first principles electronic structure calculations focusing on the change of the saturation magnetization and the Gilbert damping parameter. Both experimental and theoretical results show that the saturation magnetization decreases with increasing Re doping level, while at the same time Gilbert damping parameter increases. The experimental low temperature saturation magnetic induction exhibits a 29 percent decrease, from 2.31 T to 1.64 T, in the investigated doping concentration range, which is more than predicted by the theoretical calculations. The room temperature value of the damping parameter obtained from ferromagnetic resonance measurements, correcting for extrinsic contributions to the damping, is for the undoped sample 0.0027, which is close to the theoretically calculated Gilbert damping parameter. With 10 atomic percent Re doping, the damping parameter increases to 0.0090, which is in good agreement with the theoretical value of 0.0073. The increase in damping parameter with Re doping is explained by the increase in density of states at Fermi level, mostly contributed by the spin-up channel of Re. Moreover, both experimental and theoretical values for the damping parameter are observed to be weakly decreasing with decreasing temperature.

Collective magnetization dynamics in nano-arrays of thin FePd discs

We report on the magnetization dynamics of a square array of mesoscopic discs, fabricated from an iron palladium alloy film. The dynamics properties were explored using ferromagnetic resonance measurements and micromagnetic simulations. The obtained spectra exhibit features resulting from the interactions between the discs, with a clear dependence on both temperature and the direction of the externally applied field. We demonstrate a qualitative agreement between the measured and calculated spectra. Furthermore, we calculated the mode profiles of the standing spin waves excited during a time-dependent magnetic field excitations. The resulting maps confirm that the features appearing in the ferromagnetic resonance absorption spectra originate from the temperature and directional dependent inter-disc interactions.

Non-Reciprocal Spin Pumping in Asymmetric Magnetic Trilayers

In magnetic trilayer systems, spin pumping is generally addressed as a reciprocal mechanism characterized by one unique spin mixing conductance common to both interfaces. However, this assumption is questionable in cases where different types of interfaces are present in the material. Here, we present a general theory for analyzing spin pumping in cases with more than one unique interface. The theory is applied to analyze layer-resolved ferromagnetic resonance experiments on the trilayer system Ni$_{20}$Fe$_{80}$/Ru/Fe$_{49}$Co$_{49}$V$_2$ where the Ru spacer thickness is varied to tune the indirect exchange coupling. The results show that the spin pumping in trilayer systems with dissimilar magnetic layers is non-reciprocal, with a surprisingly large difference between spin-pumping induced damping of different interfaces. Our findings have importance on dynamics of spintronic devices based on magnetic multilayer materials.

Magneto-optical imaging of stepwise magnetic domain disintegration at characteristic temperatures in EuB_6

Prior to the onset of the ferromagnetic transition in semimetallic EuB_6, unusual magnetic and electric behavior have been reported. Using a highly sensitive magneto-optical imaging (MOI) technique, we visualize the behavior of magnetic domains in a EuB_6 single crystal. The transformation from a paramagnetic to a ferromagnetic state is shown to be non-Curie Weiss like and proceeds via multiple breaks in the curvature of the temperature-dependent local magnetization. From our experiments, we identify three characteristic boundaries, T^*(H),T^*_c1(H) and T_c2(H),in a field - temperature magnetic phase diagram.Using scaling and Modified Arrott plot analysis of isothermal bulk magnetization data, we determine the critical exponents $β$ = 0.22 $\pm$ 0.01, $γ$ = 0.88 $\pm$ 0.05 and $δ$= 5.0 $\pm$ 0.1 and a critical transition temperature = 12.0 $\pm$ 0.2 K which is found to be equal to T_c2. The critical exponents are close to those associated with the universality class of tricritical mean field model. The absence of a model with which the exponents correspond with directly, suggests the presence of large critical fluctuations in this system. The critical fluctuations in this system are sensitive to the applied magnetic field, which leads to field dependence of boundaries in the magnetic phase diagram. With increasing T the magnetic domains disintegrate into finger-like patterns before fragmenting into disjoint magnetized puddles at T^*_c1 and ultimately disappearing at T*. At T^*_c1 we observe a significant increase in the spatial inhomogeneity of the local magnetic field distribution associated with the magnetic domain structure disintegrating into smaller magnetized structures. We explain our results via the formation of magnetic polaronic clusters and their coalescing into larger domains.

Properties $(BR)$ and $(BgR)$ for Bounded Linear Operators

In this paper we introduce the notion of property $(BR)$ and property $(BgR)$ for bounded linear operators defined on an infinite-dimensional Banach space. These properties in connection with Weyl type theorems and in the frame of polaroid operators are investigated. Moreover, we study the stability of these properties under perturbations by commuting finite-dimensional, quasi-nilpotent, Riesz and algebraic operators.

Identifying a forward scattering superconductor through pump-probe spectroscopy

Electron-boson scattering that is peaked in the forward direction has been suggested as an essential ingredient for enhanced superconductivity observed in FeSe monolayers. Here, we study the superconducting state of a system dominated by forward scattering in the time-domain and contrast its behavior against the standard isotropic BCS case for both s- and d-wave symmetries. An analysis of the electron's dynamics in the pump-driven non-equilibrium state reveals that the superconducting order in the forward-focused case is robust and persistent against the pump-induced perturbations. The superconducting order parameter also exhibits a non-uniform melting in momentum space. We show that this behavior is in sharp contrast to the isotropic interaction case and propose that time-resolved approaches are a potentially powerful tool to differentiate the nature of the dominant coupling in correlated materials.

Feature Assisted bi-directional LSTM Model for Protein-Protein Interaction Identification from Biomedical Texts

Knowledge about protein-protein interactions is essential in understanding the biological processes such as metabolic pathways, DNA replication, and transcription etc. However, a majority of the existing Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) systems are dependent primarily on the scientific literature, which is yet not accessible as a structured database. Thus, efficient information extraction systems are required for identifying PPI information from the large collection of biomedical texts. Most of the existing systems model the PPI extraction task as a classification problem and are tailored to the handcrafted feature set including domain dependent features. In this paper, we present a novel method based on deep bidirectional long short-term memory (B-LSTM) technique that exploits word sequences and dependency path related information to identify PPI information from text. This model leverages joint modeling of proteins and relations in a single unified framework, which we name as Shortest Dependency Path B-LSTM (sdpLSTM) model. We perform experiments on two popular benchmark PPI datasets, namely AiMed & BioInfer. The evaluation shows the F1-score values of 86.45% and 77.35% on AiMed and BioInfer, respectively. Comparisons with the existing systems show that our proposed approach attains state-of-the-art performance.

Effect of in-situ electric field assisted growth on anti-phase boundaries in epitaxial Fe3O4 thin films on MgO

Anti-phase boundaries (APBs) normally form as a consequence of the initial growth conditions in all spinel ferrite thin films. The presence of APBs in epitaxial films of the inverse spinel Fe3O4 alters their electronic and magnetic properties due to strong antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions across these boundaries. The effect of using in-situ electric field assisted growth on the migration of APBs in hetero epitaxial Fe3O4(100)/MgO(100) thin films have been explored in the present work. The electric field assisted growth is found to reduce the AF interactions across APBs and as a consequence APBs free thin film like properties are obtained, which have been probed by electronic, magnetic and structural characterization. An increase in energy associated with the nucleation and/or early stage of the growth and, therefore, a corresponding increase in surface mobility of the ad-atoms play a critical role in controlling the density of APBs. This innovative technique can be employed to grow epitaxial spinel thin films with controlled AF interactions across APBs.

Spin Pumping in Ion-beam Sputtered Co_{2}FeAl/Mo Bilayers:Interfacial Gilbert Damping

The spin pumping mechanism and associated interfacial Gilbert damping are demonstrated in ion-beam sputtered Co2FeAl (CFA) /Mo bilayer thin films employing ferromagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The dependence of the net spin current transportation on Mo layer thickness, 0 to 10 nm, and the enhancement of the net effective Gilbert damping are reported. The experimental data has been analyzed using spin pumping theory in terms of spin current pumped through the ferromagnet /nonmagnetic metal interface to deduce the effective spin mixing conductance and the spin-diffusion length, which are estimated to be 1.16(0.19)x10^19 m^-2 and 3.50(0.35)nm, respectively. The damping constant is found to be 8.4(0.3)x10^-3 in the Mo(3.5nm) capped CFA(8nm) sample corresponding to a ~42% enhancement of the original Gilbert damping (6.0(0.3)x10^-3) in the uncapped CFA layer. This is further confirmed by inserting a Cu dusting layer which reduces the spin transport across the CFA /Mo interface. The Mo layer thickness dependent net spin current density is found to lie in the range of 1-3 MAm^-2, which also provides additional quantitative evidence of spin pumping in this bilayer thin film system.

Temperature-dependent Gilbert damping of Co2FeAl thin films with different degree of atomic order

Half-metallicity and low magnetic damping are perpetually sought for in spintronics materials and full Heusler alloys in this respect provide outstanding properties. However, it is challenging to obtain the well-ordered half-metallic phase in as-deposited full Heusler alloys thin films and theory has struggled to establish a fundamentals understanding of the temperature dependent Gilbert damping in these systems. Here we present a study of the temperature dependent Gilbert damping of differently ordered as-deposited Co2FeAl full Heusler alloy thin films. The sum of inter- and intraband electron scattering in conjunction with the finite electron lifetime in Bloch states govern the Gilbert damping for the well-ordered phase in contrast to the damping of partially-ordered and disordered phases which is governed by interband electronic scattering alone. These results, especially the ultralow room temperature intrinsic damping observed for the well-ordered phase provide new fundamental insights to the physical origin of the Gilbert damping in full Heusler alloy thin films.

Observation of Skyrmions at Room Temperature in Co2FeAl Heusler Alloy Ultrathin Films

Magnetic skyrmions are topological spin structures having immense potential for energy efficient spintronic devices. However, observations of skyrmions at room temperature are limited to patterned nanostructures. Here, we report the observation of stable skyrmions in unpatterned Ta/Co2FeAl(CFA)/MgO thin film heterostructures at room temperature and in zero external magnetic field employing magnetic force microscopy. The skyrmions are observed in a trilayer structure comprised of heavy metal (HM)/ferromagnet (FM)/Oxide interfaces which result in strong interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (i-DMI) as evidenced by Brillouin light scattering measurements, in agreement with the results of micromagnetic simulations. We also emphasize on room temperature observation of multiple skyrmions which can be stabilized for suitable choices of CFA layer thickness, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, and i-DMI. These results open up a new paradigm for designing room temperature spintronic devices based on skyrmions in FM continuous thin films.

A Fuzzy Logic System to Analyze a Student's Lifestyle

A college student's life can be primarily categorized into domains such as education, health, social and other activities which may include daily chores and travelling time. Time management is crucial for every student. A self realisation of one's daily time expenditure in various domains is therefore essential to maximize one's effective output. This paper presents how a mobile application using Fuzzy Logic and Global Positioning System (GPS) analyzes a student's lifestyle and provides recommendations and suggestions based on the results.

Ask Me Anything: Dynamic Memory Networks for Natural Language Processing

Most tasks in natural language processing can be cast into question answering (QA) problems over language input. We introduce the dynamic memory network (DMN), a neural network architecture which processes input sequences and questions, forms episodic memories, and generates relevant answers. Questions trigger an iterative attention process which allows the model to condition its attention on the inputs and the result of previous iterations. These results are then reasoned over in a hierarchical recurrent sequence model to generate answers. The DMN can be trained end-to-end and obtains state-of-the-art results on several types of tasks and datasets: question answering (Facebook's bAbI dataset), text classification for sentiment analysis (Stanford Sentiment Treebank) and sequence modeling for part-of-speech tagging (WSJ-PTB). The training for these different tasks relies exclusively on trained word vector representations and input-question-answer triplets.

Identifying Diabetic Patients with High Risk of Readmission

Hospital readmissions are expensive and reflect the inadequacies in healthcare system. In the United States alone, treatment of readmitted diabetic patients exceeds 250 million dollars per year. Early identification of patients facing a high risk of readmission can enable healthcare providers to to conduct additional investigations and possibly prevent future readmissions. This not only improves the quality of care but also reduces the medical expenses on readmission. Machine learning methods have been leveraged on public health data to build a system for identifying diabetic patients facing a high risk of future readmission. Number of inpatient visits, discharge disposition and admission type were identified as strong predictors of readmission. Further, it was found that the number of laboratory tests and discharge disposition together predict whether the patient will be readmitted shortly after being discharged from the hospital (i.e. <30 days) or after a longer period of time (i.e. >30 days). These insights can help healthcare providers to improve inpatient diabetic care. Finally, the cost analysis suggests that \$252.76 million can be saved across 98,053 diabetic patient encounters by incorporating the proposed cost sensitive analysis model.

Attention Sensitive Web Browsing

With a number of cheap commercial dry EEG kits available today, it is possible to look at user attention driven scenarios for interaction with the web browser. Using EEG to determine the user's attention level is preferable to using methods such as gaze tracking or time spent on the webpage. In this paper we use the attention level in three different ways. First, as a control mechanism, to control user interface elements such as menus or buttons. Second, to make the web browser responsive to the current attention level. Third, as a means for the web developer to control the user experience based on the level of attention paid by the user, thus creating attention sensitive websites. We present implementation details for each of these, using the NeuroSky MindWave sensor. We also explore issues in the system, and possibility of an EEG based web standard.

Spatiotemporal Regularity in Networks with Stochastically Varying Links

In this work we investigate time varying networks with complex dynamics at the nodes. We consider two scenarios of network change in an interval of time: first, we have the case where each link can change with probability pt, i.e. the network changes occur locally and independently at each node. Secondly we consider the case where the entire connectivity matrix changes with probability pt, i.e. the change is global. We show that network changes, occurring both locally and globally, yield an enhanced range of synchronization. When the connections are changed slowly (i.e. pt is low) the nodes display nearly synchronized intervals interrupted by intermittent unsynchronized chaotic bursts. However when the connections are switched quickly (i.e. pt is large), the intermittent behavior quickly settles down to a steady synchronized state. Furthermore we find that the mean time taken to reach synchronization from generic random initial states is significantly reduced when the underlying links change more rapidly. We also analyze the probabilistic dynamics of the system with changing connectivity and the stable synchronized range thus obtained is in broad agreement with those observed numerically.
