The energy-critical stochastic nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation: well-posedness and blow-up

We investigate the focusing and defocusing energy-critical stochastic nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation, subject to random perturbations in the form of either additive or multiplicative (Stratonovich) noise. We establish local well-posedness for random or deterministic initial data $u_0$ in $\dot{H}^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$ or $H^1(\mathbb{R}^n)$, depending on the noise type. In the focusing case we provide quantitative estimates regarding the existence time and probability. Moreover, we derive blow-up criteria for solutions with positive energy in both cases of noise, provided that the noise intensity is sufficiently small, showing that blow-up occurs before a certain given positive time with positive probability, thus, extending deterministic results of Kenig-Merle [24] for the energy-critical NLS equation to the stochastic setting.

Well-posedness of the focusing stochastic nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation: $L^2$-critical and supercritical cases

We study the focusing $L^2$-critical and supercritical stochastic nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation subject to additive or multiplicative noise. We investigate global or long time behavior of solutions in $H^1$, which would correspond to global well-posedness in the deterministic case, with either deterministic or random initial data, and establish quantitative information about the well-posedness time, its probability and bounds on the solution in both cases. We then give criteria for finite time blow-up with positive probability for an $H^1$-valued initial data with positive energy in both cases.

Weak error estimates of Galerkin approximations for the stochastic Burgers equation driven by additive trace-class noise

We establish weak convergence rates for spectral Galerkin approximations of the stochastic viscous Burgers equation driven by additive trace-class noise. Our results complement the known results regarding strong convergence; we obtain essential weak convergence rate 2. As expected, this is twice the known strong rate. The main ingredients of the proof are novel regularity results on the solutions of the associated Kolmogorov equations.

Rate of convergence of a semi-implicit time Euler scheme for a 2D B\'enard-Boussinesq model

We prove that a semi-implicit time Euler scheme for the two-dimensional B\'enard-Boussinesq model on the torus D converges. The rate of convergence in probability is almost 1/2 for a multiplicative noise; this relies on moment estimates in various norms for the processes and the scheme. In case of an additive noise, due to the coupling of the equations, provided that the difference on temperature between the top and bottom parts of the torus is not too big compared to the viscosity and thermal diffusivity, a strong polynomial rate of convergence (almost 1/2) is proven in $(L^2(D))^2$ for the velocity and in $L^2(D)$ for the temperature. It depends on exponential moments of the scheme; due to linear terms involving the other quantity in both evolution equations, the proof has to be done simultaneaously for both the velocity and the temperature. These rates in both cases are similar to that obtained for the Navier-Stokes equation.

Speed of convergence of time Euler schemes for a stochastic 2D Boussinesq model

We prove that an implicit time Euler scheme for the 2D-Boussinesq model on the torus $D$ converges. Various moment of the $W^{1,2}$-norms of the velocity and temperature, as well as their discretizations, are computed. We obtain the optimal speed of convergence in probability, and a logarithmic speed of convergence in $L^2(Ω)$. These results are deduced from a time regularity of the solution both in $L^2(D)$ and $W^{1,2}(D)$, and from an $L^2(Ω)$ convergence restricted to a subset where the $W^{1,2}$-noms of the solutions are bounded.

Strong L2 convergence of time Euler schemes for stochastic 3D Brinkman-Forchheimer-Navier-Stokes equations

We prove that some time Euler schemes for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations modified by adding a Brinkman-Forchheimer term and a random perturbation converge in $L^2(Ω)$. This extends previous results concerning the strong rate of convergence of some time discretization schemes for the 2D Navier Stokes equations. Unlike the 2D case, our proposed 3D model with the Brinkman-Forchheimer term allows for a strong rate of convergence of order almost 1/2, that is independent of the viscosity parameter.

Global solutions to stochastic wave equations with superlinear coefficients

We prove existence and uniqueness of a random field solution $(u(t,x); (t,x)\in [0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^d)$ to a stochastic wave equation in dimensions $d=1,2,3$ with diffusion and drift coefficients of the form $|z| \big( \ln_+(|z|) \big)^a$ for some $a>0$. The proof relies on a sharp analysis of moment estimates of time and space increments of the corresponding stochastic wave equation with globally Lipschitz coefficients. We give examples of spatially correlated Gaussian driving noises where the results apply.

Strong rates of convergence of space-time discretization schemes for the 2D Navier-Stokes equations with additive noise

We consider the strong solution of the 2D Navier-Stokes equations in a torus subject to an additive noise. We implement a fully implicit time numerical scheme and a finite element method in space. We prove that the rate of convergence of the schemes is $η\in[0,1/2)$ in time and 1 in space. Let us mention that the coefficient $η$ is equal to the time regularity of the solution with values in $\LL^2$. Our method relies on the existence of finite exponential moments for both the solution and its time approximation. Our main idea is to use a discrete Gronwall lemma for the error estimate without any localization.

Behavior of solutions to the 1D focusing stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with spatially correlated noise

We study the focusing stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in one spatial dimension with multiplicative noise, driven by a Wiener process white in time and colored in space, in the $L^2$-critical and supercritical cases. The mass ($L^2$-norm) is conserved due to the multiplicative noise defined via the Stratonovich integral, the energy (Hamiltonian) is not preserved. We first investigate how the energy is affected by various spatially correlated random perturbations. We then study the influence of the noise on the global dynamics measuring the probability of blow-up versus scattering behavior depending on various parameters of correlation kernels. Finally, we study the effect of the spatially correlated noise on the blow-up behavior, and conclude that such random perturbations do not influence the blow-up dynamics, except for shifting of the blow-up center location. This is similar to what we observed in [32] for a space-time white driving noise.

Behavior of solutions to the 1D focusing stochastic $L^2$-critical and supercritical nonlinear Schrödinger equation with space-time white noise

We study the focusing stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation in 1D in the $L^2$-critical and supercritical cases with an additive or multiplicative perturbation driven by space-time white noise. Unlike the deterministic case, the Hamiltonian (or energy) is not conserved in the stochastic setting, nor is the mass (or the $L^2$-norm) conserved in the additive case. Therefore, we investigate the time evolution of these quantities. After that we study the influence of noise on the global behavior of solutions. In particular, we show that the noise may induce blow-up, thus, ceasing the global existence of the solution, which otherwise would be global in the deterministic setting. Furthermore, we study the effect of the noise on the blow-up dynamics in both multiplicative and additive noise settings and obtain profiles and rates of the blow-up solutions. Our findings conclude that the blow-up parameters (rate and profile) are insensitive to the type or strength of the noise: if blow-up happens, it has the same dynamics as in the deterministic setting, however, there is a (random) shift of the blow-up center, which can be described as a random variable normally distributed.

Space-time Euler discretization schemes for the stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equations

We prove that the implicit time Euler scheme coupled with finite elements space discretization for the 2D Navier-Stokes equations on the torus subject to a random perturbation converges in $L^2(Ω)$, and describe the rate of convergence for an $H^1$-valued initial condition. This refines previous results which only established the convergence in probability of these numerical approximations. Using exponential moment estimates of the solution of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations and convergence of a localized scheme, we can prove strong convergence of this space-time approximation. The speed of the $L^2(Ω)$-convergence depends on the diffusion coefficient and on the viscosity parameter. In case of Scott-Vogelius mixed elements and for an additive noise, the convergence is polynomial.

Accelerated finite elements schemes for parabolic stochastic partial differential equations

For a class of finite elements approximations for linear stochastic parabolic PDEs it is proved that one can accelerate the rate of convergence by Richardson extrapolation. More precisely, by taking appropriate mixtures of finite elements approximations one can accelerate the convergence to any given speed provided the coefficients, the initial and free data are sufficiently smooth.

On strong $L^2$ convergence of time numerical schemes for the stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equations

We prove that some discretization schemes for the 2D Navier-Stokes equations subject to a random perturbation converge in $L^2(Ω)$. This refines previous results which only established the convergence in probability of these numerical approximations. Using exponential moment estimates of the solution of the stochastic NS equations and convergence of a localized scheme, we can prove strong convergence of fully implicit and semi-implicit time Euler discretizations, and of a splitting scheme. The speed of the $L^2(Ω)$-convergence depends on the diffusion coefficient and on the viscosity parameter.

On stochastic modified 3d navier-stokes equations with anisotropic viscosity

Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space R^3 subject to an anisotropic viscosity and a random perturbation of multiplicative type is described. By adding a term of Brinkman-Forchheimer type to the model, existence and uniqueness of global weak solutions in the PDE sense are proved. These are strong solutions in the probability sense. The convective term given in terms of the Brinkman-Forchheirmer provides some extra regularity in the space L^{2$α$+2} (R^3), with $α$ > 1. As a consequence, the nonlinear term has better properties which allows to prove uniqueness. The proof of existence is performed through a control method. A Large Deviations Principle is given and proven at the end of the paper.

Generalized KdV equation subject to a stochastic perturbation

We prove global well-posedness of the subcritical generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation (the mKdV and the gKdV with quartic power of nonlinearity) subject to an additive random perturbation. More precisely, we prove that if the driving noise is a cylindrical Wiener process on $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ and the covariance operator is Hilbert-Schmidt in an appropriate Sobolev space, then the solutions with $H^1(\mathbb{R})$ data are globally well-posed in $H^1(\mathbb{R})$. This extends results obtained by A. de Bouard and A. Debussche for the stochastic KdV equation.

Splitting up method for the 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper, we deal with the convergence of an iterative scheme for the 2-D stochastic Navier-Stokes Equations on the torus suggested by the Lie-Trotter product formulas for stochastic differential equations of parabolic type. The stochastic system is split into two problems which are simpler for numerical computations. An estimate of the approximation error is given either with periodic boundary conditions. In particular, we prove that the strong speed of the convergence in probability is almost $1/2$. This is shown by means of an $L^2(Ω,P)$ convergence localized on a set of arbitrary large probability. The assumptions on the diffusion coefficient depend on the fact that some multiple of the Laplace operator is present or not with the multiplicative stochastic term. Note that if one of the splitting steps only contains the stochastic integral, then the diffusion coefficient may not contain any gradient of the solution.

Existence and regularity of solution for a Stochastic Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn equation with unbounded noise diffusion

The Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn equation with noise is a simplified mean field model of stochastic microscopic dynamics associated with adsorption and desorption-spin flip mechanisms in the context of surface processes. For such an equation we consider a multiplicative space-time white noise with diffusion coefficient of sub-linear growth. Using technics from semigroup theory, we prove existence, and path regularity of stochastic solution depending on that of the initial condition. Our results are also valid for the stochastic Cahn-Hilliard equation with unbounded noise diffusion, for which previous results were established only in the framework of a bounded diffusion coefficient. We prove that the path regularity of stochastic solution depends on that of the initial condition, and are identical to those proved for the stochastic Cahn-Hilliard equation and a bounded noise diffusion coefficient. If the initial condition vanishes, they are strictly less than 2-d/2 in space and 1/2-d/8 in time. As expected from the theory of parabolic operators in the sense of Petrovski, the bi-Laplacian operator seems to be dominant in the combined model.
