Nonclassical properties of a deformed atom-cavity field state

We analyze here a nonclassical state produced by an atom-cavity field interaction. The two-level atom is passed through the single-mode electromagnetic cavity field. By deforming the field operators and introducing nonlinearity to the classic Jaynes-Cummings model, we explore the system in respect of a nonlinear Hamiltonian. Assuming that the atom is in an excited state and the field is in a coherent state initially, the analytic expression for the state vector of the entire system state vector is obtained. With the help of the derived state vector, we calculate the photon number distribution, Mandel's $Q_M$ parameter, Wigner function, anti-bunching, squeezing properties and $Q$ function etc.

Detecting nonclassicality and non-Gaussianity of a coherent superposed quantum state

In this paper, we investigate the nonclassicality and non-Gaussianity of a coherent superposed quantum state (CSQS) which is obtained by applying a coherent superposition of field annihilation ($a$) and creation ($a^\dagger$) operators, $N(ta+ra^\dagger)$ to a classical coherent state $|α\rangle$, where $t$ and $r$ are scalars with $t^2+r^2=1$. Such an operation, when applied on states having classical characters, introduces strong nonclassicality. We use different criteria to check the nonclassicality and non-Gaussianity of the considered quantum state. We first compute the Wigner function of CSQS. To study the nonclassicality of the considered state we further use (i) linear entropy (LE) (ii) Wigner logarithmic negativity (WLN) and (iii) skew information based measure. Relative entropy based measure is considered to analyze the variation in non-Gaussianity of CSQS. Finally, the dynamics of the Wigner function evolving under the photon loss channel is addressed to probe the effect of noise on nonclassicality as well as non-Gaussianity of CSQS.

Two-mode photon-added entangled coherent states and their entanglement properties

An entangled quantum state is considered by applying a local photon excitation to each mode of an entangled coherent state. The entanglement property is investigated in terms of the entropy of entanglement. It is shown that applying a photon addition can improve the amount of entanglement. It is also examined that in a specific region of parameters, the state $|{ψ_1^-(α, m, n)}\rangle$ is least entangled when photon excitation is minimum. We study the statistical properties of such states by employing the quasi-probability functions.

Lower- versus higher-order nonclassicalities for a coherent superposed quantum state

A coherent state is defined conventionally in different ways such as a displaced vacuum state, an eigenket of annihilation operator or as an infinite dimensional Poissonian superposition of Fock states. In this work, we describe a superposition $(ta+ra^\dagger)$ of field annihilation and creation operators acting on a continuous variable coherent state $|α\rangle$ and specify it by $|ψ\rangle$. We analyze the lower- as well as the higher-order nonclassical properties of $|ψ\rangle$. The comparison is performed by using a set of nonclassicality witnesses (e.g., higher-order photon-statistics, higher-order antibunching, higher-order sub-Poissonian statistics, higher-order squeezing, Agarwal-Tara parameter, Klyshko's condition and a relatively new concept, matrix of phase-space distribution). It is found that higher-order criteria are much more efficient to detect the presence of nonclassicality as compared to lower-order conditions.

A Unified Bayesian Framework for Pricing Catastrophe Bond Derivatives

Catastrophe (CAT) bond markets are incomplete and hence carry uncertainty in instrument pricing. As such various pricing approaches have been proposed, but none treat the uncertainty in catastrophe occurrences and interest rates in a sufficiently flexible and statistically reliable way within a unifying asset pricing framework. Consequently, little is known empirically about the expected risk-premia of CAT bonds. The primary contribution of this paper is to present a unified Bayesian CAT bond pricing framework based on uncertainty quantification of catastrophes and interest rates. Our framework allows for complex beliefs about catastrophe risks to capture the distinct and common patterns in catastrophe occurrences, and when combined with stochastic interest rates, yields a unified asset pricing approach with informative expected risk premia. Specifically, using a modified collective risk model -- Dirichlet Prior-Hierarchical Bayesian Collective Risk Model (DP-HBCRM) framework -- we model catastrophe risk via a model-based clustering approach. Interest rate risk is modeled as a CIR process under the Bayesian approach. As a consequence of casting CAT pricing models into our framework, we evaluate the price and expected risk premia of various CAT bond contracts corresponding to clustering of catastrophe risk profiles. Numerical experiments show how these clusters reveal how CAT bond prices and expected risk premia relate to claim frequency and loss severity.

Quantifying quantum correlation of quasi-Werner state and probing its suitability for quantum teleportation

The significance of photon addition in engineering the single- and two-mode (bipartite correlations) nonclassical properties of a quantum state is investigated. Specifically, we analyzed the behavior of the Wigner function of two quasi-Werner states theoretically constructed by superposing two normalized bipartite $m$-photon added coherent states. This allowed us to quantify the amount of nonclassicality present in the quantum states using Wigner logarithmic negativity (WLN), while quantum correlations are measured in terms of concurrence, entanglement of formation, and quantum discord. The WLN for a two-mode state corresponds to the sum of the single-mode nonclassicality as well as quantum correlations, and both of these are observed to enhance with photon addition manifesting the efficacy of photon addition in the entanglement distillation. Usefulness of photon addition is further established by showing that the performance of the quasi-Werner states as quantum channel for the teleportation of a single-mode coherent and squeezed states, as quantified via teleportation fidelity, improves with the photon addition. Further, in contrast to a set of existing results, it is established that the negative values of two-mode Wigner function cannot be used in general as a witness of quantum correlation.

Generating continuous variable entangled states for quantum teleportation using a superposition of number-conserving operations

We investigate the states generated in continuous variable (CV) optical fields on operating them with a number-conserving operator of the type $s\hat{a}\hat{a}^†+ t\hat{a}^†\hat{a}$, formed by the generalised superposition of products of field annihilation ($\hat{a}$) and creation ($\hat{a}^†$) operators, with $s^2+t^2=1$. Such an operator is experimentally realizable and can be suitably manipulated to generate nonclassical optical states when applied on single- and two-mode coherent, thermal, and squeezed input states. At low intensities, these nonclassical states can interact with a secondary mode via a linear optical device to generate two-mode discrete entangled states, which can serve as a resource in quantum information protocols. The advantage of these operations are tested by applying the generated entangled states as quantum channels in CV quantum teleportation, under the Braunstein and Kimble protocol. We observe that, under these operations, while the average fidelity of CV teleportation is enhanced for the nonclassical channel formed using input squeezed states, it remains at the classical threshold for input coherent and thermal states. This is due to the fact that though these operations can introduce discrete entanglement in all input states, it enhances the Einstein-Podolosky-Rosen (EPR) correlations only in the nonclassical squeezed state inputs, leading to an advantage in CV teleportation. This shows that nonclassical optical states generated using the above operations on classical coherent and thermal state inputs are not resourceful for CV teleportation. This investigation could prove useful in efficient implementation of noisy non-Gaussian channels, formed by linear operations, in future teleportation protocols.

Mapping generalized Jaynes-Cummings interaction into correlated finite-sized systems

We consider a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model of a two-level atom interacting with a multimode nondegenerate coherent field. The sum of the mode frequencies is equal to the two-level transition frequency, creating the resonance condition. The intermediate levels associated with the multi-photon process are adiabatically eliminated using the non-resonant conditions for these transitions. Under such general conditions, the infinite atom-multiphoton interaction is effectively mapped onto an equivalent reduced \textit{2}$\times$\textit{2} bipartite qubit system that facilitates the study of the nonclassical features of the interaction using known information-theoretic measures. We observe that the bipartite pure system is highly entangled as quantified by its entanglement of formation. Further, it is shown that the dynamics of the mapped system can be generated using optically truncated, quantum scissored states that reduce the infinite atom-multiphoton interaction to a finite \textit{2}$\times$\textit{k} system, where $k$ is a suitable truncation number. This allows us to introduce atomic dephasing and study the mixed state dynamics, characterized by the decay of quantum correlations such as quantum discord, which is observed to be more robust than entanglement. The quantum correlation dynamics of the dissipative system qualitatively complements the behavior of collapse and revival of the Rabi oscillations in the system. The effective mapping of the composite system proves to be an efficient tool for measuring information-theoretic properties.

Controllable quantum correlations of two-photon states generated using classically driven three-level atoms

We investigate the dynamics of two-photon correlations generated by the interaction of a three-level atom in the $Ξ$, $Λ$ or V configuration, with two classical external driving fields, under the rotating-wave approximation, in the presence of level decays. Using the example of a rubidium atom in each configuration, with field strengths validating the single-photon approximation, we compute measurement based correlations, such as measurement induced disturbance (MID), quantum discord (QD), and quantum work deficit (WD), and compare the results with that of quantum entanglement (concurrence). Certain correlation properties observed are generic, model independent and consistent with known results, e.g., MID is an upper bound on QD, QD and WD are monotonic, and the generic correlation behavior is strongly affected by the purity of the photon states. We observe that the qualitative hierarchy, monotonicity and steady-state behavior of the correlations can be controlled by the choice of parameters such as atomic decay constants and external driving field strengths. We point out how particular configurations are better suited at generating monotonic correlations in specific regimes and how the steady-state correlation behavior and hierarchy are affected by the population dynamics of the density matrix for different parameters. The possibility of using well studied quantum optical systems such as the three-level atom to generate, characterize and parametrically control mixed state quantum correlations establishes an important step in the direction of their implementation in quantum information tasks.

Nonclassical properties of states engineered by superpositions of quantum operations on classical states

We consider an experimentally realizable scheme for manipulating quantum states using a general superposition of products of field annihilation ($\hat{a}$) and creation ($\hat{a}^†$) operators of the type ($s \hat{a}\hat{a}^†+ t \hat{a}^†\hat{a}$), with $s^2 + t^2 = 1$. Such an operation, when applied on states with classical features, is shown to introduce strong nonclassicality. We quantify the generated degree of nonclassicality by the negative volume of Wigner distribution in the phase space and investigate two other observable nonclassical features, sub-Poissonian statistics and squeezing. We find that the operation introduces negativity in the Wigner distribution of an input coherent state and changes the Gaussianity of an input thermal state. This provides the possibility of engineering quantum states with specific nonclassical features.
