Decompactification and the Flat-Space Limit of AdS$_5\times$ S$^5$ Master Correlators

We study the flat-space limit of AdS$_5$/CFT$_4$ holographic correlators while accounting for the simultaneous decompactification of the internal S$^5$. We show that this limit is naturally formulated in terms of master propagators and correlators, which resum the infinite tower of Kaluza--Klein modes. For boundary correlators, the resulting expressions can be interpreted in terms of amplitudes with kinematics restricted to 5d. We then consider master correlators whose external insertions are kept in the AdS$_5\times$S$^5$ bulk before taking the limit, and argue that they recover flat-space amplitudes with unrestricted kinematics in 10d Minkowski space. Finally, we show that the flat-space limit commutes with the boundary limit if we analytically continue the sphere so that the bulk geometry becomes AdS$_5 \times$dS$_5$, and the resulting formulae suggest an interpretation in terms of amplitudes in flat space with two time directions and with 10d kinematics satisfying two simultaneous null constraints. We discuss the implications of these constructions for flat-space holography and its relation to the Carrollian limit of the dual CFT.

On the amplitude expansion of gluon correlators in $\textrm{AdS}_4$

We show that tree-level gluon correlators in $\textrm{AdS}_4$ admit a natural expansion in terms of flat-space scattering amplitudes at all multiplicities. In particular, every $n$-point correlator can be decomposed into a sum over energy poles whose residues are flat-space amplitudes. The $n$-point amplitude encodes the flat-space limit while curvature corrections are captured by lower-point amplitudes with merged external data. The merging of external polarizations is recursively defined via an AdS analogue of the Berends-Giele currents, giving rise to all-multiplicity formulae which we verify against Feynman diagram computations up to five points. Crucially, our approach works at the level of full correlators rather than individual diagrams, providing an elegant and transparent alternative to conventional approaches for computing correlators in anti-de Sitter space.

Carrollian ABJM: Fermions and Supersymmetry

A natural approach for constructing a concrete example of flat space holography is to take the flat space limit of a well-understood example of AdS/CFT, such as the one relating M-theory in AdS$_4$ times an orbifolded 7-sphere to a certain three dimensional superconformal Chern-Simons-matter theory known as the ABJM theory living in the boundary of AdS$_4$. In particular, taking the flat space limit of the bulk corresponds to taking the speed of light $c$ to zero in the boundary, giving rise to a Carrollian superconformal theory. This limit is subtle to implement for fermions, however, since the Dirac algebra is sensitive to the spacetime metric and therefore takes a different form in Carrollian spacetimes than it does in Minkowski space. In fact, we show that there are four possible ways of realising Carrollian fermions, one of which arises at leading order in the $c\rightarrow0$ limit of relativistic fermions. In three dimensions, there is an additional complication that the minimal realisation of the Carrollian Dirac algebra requires $4\times4$ matrices rather than $2\times 2$ matrices familiar from the relativistic case. Nevertheless, we show that the $c\rightarrow0$ limit of the ABJM theory can be recast in terms of Carrollian Dirac matrices and enjoys and infinite-dimensional Carrollian superconformal symmetry whose bosonic subsector is the extended BMS$_4$ algebra encoding the asymptotic symmetries of four dimensional Minkowski space. This provides a concrete starting point for constructing a Carrollian gauge theory dual to M-theory in flat space.

Cosmological Correlator Discontinuities from Scattering Amplitudes

Recent theoretical work has revealed that basic observables of quantum field theory in de Sitter space, known as in-in or cosmological correlators, exhibit surprisingly simple mathematical structure reminiscent of scattering amplitudes in flat space. For many theories, this simplicity can be made manifest using a set of ``cosmological dressing rules'' which uplift flat-space Feynman diagrams to in-in correlators in de Sitter space by attaching auxiliary propagators to the interaction vertices. In this paper, we show that discontinuities of cosmological correlators with respect to internal energy variables can be obtained by applying auxiliary propagators to unitarity cuts of flat space Feynman diagrams. Moreover, discontinuities with respect to external energy variables can be obtained by cutting auxiliary propagators attached to Feynman diagrams. This observation in turn implies highly non-trivial constraints on cosmological correlators in the form of simple sum rules. We illustrate these ideas in a number of examples at tree-level and 1-loop for conformally coupled scalar theories, although they hold more generally. Finally, we show how to reconstruct cosmological correlators from their discontinuities using dispersion relations, providing a powerful new approach to computing cosmological observables by systematically reconstructing them from data uplifted from flat space.

On in-in correlators for spinning theories and their shadow formulation

In-in correlators are the basic observables in cosmology and are traditionally computed using the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism. In this paper we revisit this formalism for photons, gluons, and gravitons coupled to scalars in four dimensional de Sitter space and provide a novel treatment of boundary gauge-fixing of the underlying path integral. We also derive effective actions in Euclidean Anti-de Sitter space whose Feynman rules compute the in-in correlators of these theories in de Sitter space, generalising the shadow formalism recently obtained for scalar theories. We illustrate this formalism in a number of examples at tree-level and 1-loop, demonstrating its relative simplicity compared to other approaches. Moreover, we initiate the study of color/kinematics duality and the double copy for in-in correlators using dressing rules which uplift flat space Feynman diagrams to de Sitter space.

de Sitter locality from conformal field theory

An important insight from the study of AdS/CFT is that bulk locality can be derived from crossing symmetry of the boundary CFT. In this paper, we take the first steps in extending this statement to de Sitter background by demonstrating how to reconstruct a conformally coupled scalar effective field theory (EFT) with higher derivative interactions in four-dimensional de Sitter space from its in-in correlators. The latter can be computed from a certain EFT in Euclidean Anti-de Sitter space involving two scalar fields, which we derive from crossing symmetry of boundary correlators along with two novel constraints arising from unmixing anomalous dimensions of degenerate operators and equating them in different OPE channels. To facilitate the analysis, we work in Mellin space and apply dispersion relations to extract anomalous dimensions more efficiently.

Towards a Flat Space Carrollian Hologram from AdS$_4$/CFT$_3$

Finding a concrete example holography in four dimensional asymptotically flat space is an important open problem. A natural strategy is to take the flat space limit of the celebrated AdS$_4$/CFT$_3$ correspondence, which relates M-theory in AdS$_4 \times$S$^7$ to a certain superconformal Chern-Simons-matter theory known as the ABJM theory. In this limit, the boundary of AdS$_4$ becomes null infinity and the ABJM theory should exhibit an emergent superconformal Carrollian symmetry. We investigate this possiblity by matching the Carrollian limit of ABJM correlators with four-dimensional supergravity amplitudes that arise from taking the flat space limit of AdS$_4 \times$S$^7$ and reducing along the S$^7$. We also present a general analysis of three-dimensional superconformal Carrollian symmetry.

Cosmological Dressing Rules

The basic observables in cosmology are known as in-in correlators. Recent calculations have revealed that in-in correlators in four dimensional de Sitter space exhibit hidden simplicity stemming from a close relation to scattering amplitudes in flat space. In this paper we explain how to make this property manifest by dressing flat space Feynman diagrams with certain auxiliary propagators. These dressing rules are derived for conformally coupled and massless scalar theories and we show that they reproduce the same infrared divergences predicted by the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism.

Pure connection formalism and Plebanski's second heavenly equation

Plebanski's second heavenly equation reduces the problem of finding a self-dual Einstein metric to solving a non-linear second-order PDE for a single function. Plebanski's original equation is for self-dual metrics obtained as perturbations of the flat metric. Recently, a version of this equation was discovered for self-dual metrics arising as perturbations around a constant curvature background. We provide a new simple derivation of both versions of the Plebanski second heavenly equation. Our derivation relies on the `pure connection' description of self-dual gravity. Our results also suggest a new interpretation to the kinematic algebra of self-dual Yang-Mills theory, as the Lie algebra of (0,1) vector fields on a R4 endowed with a complex structure.

Light-cone actions and correlators of self-dual theories in AdS$_4$

Self-dual Yang-Mills and Einstein gravity in Euclidean AdS$_4$ are useful toy models because they can be described by simple scalar Lagrangians exhibiting a new manifestation of the colour/kinematics duality, as recently shown by two of the authors. In this paper, we clarify how the self-dual sectors fit into the full theories. In particular, we explicitly construct the light-cone action for Yang-Mills theory and Einstein gravity in AdS$_4$ in terms of positive and negative helicity fields, where we are able to pinpoint the self-dual sector as expected. We then show that the boundary correlators of these theories take a remarkably simple form in terms of Feynman diagrams in half of flat space, acted on by certain differential operators. We also analyse their soft limits and show that they exhibit Weinberg-like soft factors, where the soft pole which appears in scattering amplitudes is replaced by a derivative with respect to the energy.

Soft Limits of Gluon and Graviton Correlators in Anti-de Sitter Space

We derive formulae for the soft limit of tree-level gluon and graviton correlators in Anti-de Sitter space, which arise from Feynman diagrams encoding the Weinberg soft theorems in flat space. Other types of diagrams can also contribute to the soft limit at leading order in the soft momentum, but have a different pole structure. We derive these results at four points using explicit formulae recently obtained from the cosmological bootstrap and double copy, and extend them to any multiplicity using bootstrap techniques in Mellin-momentum space.

3d Carrollian Chern-Simons theory and 2d Yang-Mills

With the goal of building a concrete co-dimension one holographically dual field theory for four dimensional asymptotically flat spacetimes (4d AFS) as a limit of AdS$_4$/CFT$_3$, we begin an investigation of 3d Chern-Simons matter (CSM) theories in the Carroll regime. We perform a Carroll (speed of light $c\to0$) expansion of the relativistic Chern-Simons action coupled to a massless scalar and obtain Carrollian CSM theories, which we show are invariant under the infinite dimensional 3d conformal Carroll or 4d Bondi-van der Burg-Metzner-Sachs (BMS$_4$) symmetries, thus making them putative duals for 4d AFS. Concentrating on the leading-order electric Carroll CSM theory, we perform a null reduction of the 3d theory. Null reduction is a procedure to obtain non-relativistic theories from a higher dimensional relativistic theory. Curiously, null reduction of a Carrollian theory yields a relativistic lower-dimensional theory. We work with $SU(N) \times SU(M)$ CS theory coupled to bi-fundamental matter and show that when $N=M$, we obtain (rather surprisingly) a 2d Euclidean Yang-Mills theory after null reduction. We also comment on the reduction when $N \neq M$ and possible connections of the null-reduced Carroll theory to a candidate 2d Celestial CFT.

Self-Dual Cosmology

We construct cosmological spacetimes with a self-dual Weyl tensor whose dynamics are described by conformally coupled scalars with only cubic self-interactions. Similar to the previously discovered cases in flat and (Anti) de Sitter backgrounds, the interactions are characterized by a bracket that encodes a kinematic algebra. We discuss how the color-kinematics duality and double copy are realized in these cosmological backgrounds. If we further impose that the Ricci scalar is that of an FLRW spacetime, we find two new self-dual metrics corresponding to radiation-dominated and coasting (non-accelerating) FLRW backgrounds. Relaxing this requirement, we find an infinite family of solutions given by three different conformal classes of cosmological self-dual metrics. These solutions approximate those of FLRW as long as we impose a simple additional constraint on the scalar theory.

The Subtle Simplicity of Cosmological Correlators

We investigate cosmological correlators for conformally coupled $\phi^4$ theory in four-dimensional de Sitter space. These \textit{in-in} correlators differ from scattering amplitudes for massless particles in flat space due to the spacelike structure of future infinity in de Sitter. They also require a regularization which preserves de Sitter-invariance, which makes the flat space limit subtle to define at loop-level. Nevertheless we find that up to two loops, the \textit{in-in} correlators are structurally simpler than the wave function and have the same transcendentality as flat space amplitudes. Moreover, we show that their loop integrands can be recast in terms of flat space integrands and can be derived from a novel recursion relation.

Self-dual gravity and color/kinematics duality in AdS$_4$

We show that self-dual gravity in Euclidean four-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space (AdS$_4$) can be described by a minimally coupled scalar field with a cubic interaction written in terms of a deformed Poisson bracket, providing a remarkably simple generalisation of the Plebanski action for self-dual gravity in flat space. This implies a novel symmetry algebra in self-dual gravity, notably an AdS$_4$ version of the so-called kinematic algebra. We also obtain the 3-point interaction vertex of self-dual gravity in AdS$_4$ from that of self-dual Yang-Mills by replacing the structure constants of the Lie group with the structure constants of the new kinematic algebra, implying that self-dual gravity in AdS$_4$ can be derived from self-dual Yang-Mills in this background via a double copy. This provides a concrete starting point for defining the double copy for Einstein gravity in AdS$_4$ by expanding around the self-dual sector. Moreover, we show that the new kinematic Lie algebra can be lifted to a deformed version of the $w_{1+\infty}$ algebra, which plays a prominent role in celestial holography.

Graviton Trispectrum from Gluons

The tree-level wavefunction coefficient for four gravitons in de Sitter space was recently bootstrapped using the Cosmological Optical Theorem, flat space limit, and Manifestly Local Test \cite{Bonifacio:2022vwa}. Inspired by the double copy for scattering amplitudes, we derive a compact new expression for this quantity starting from the wavefunction coefficient for gluons.

Enhanced Soft Limits in de Sitter Space

In flat space, the scattering amplitudes of certain scalar effective field theories exhibit enhanced soft limits due to the presence of hidden symmetries. In this paper, we show that this phenomenon extends to wavefunction coefficients in de Sitter space. Using a representation in terms of boundary conformal generators acting on contact diagrams, we find that imposing enhanced soft limits fixes the masses and four-point couplings (including curvature corrections) in agreement with Lagrangians recently derived from hidden symmetries. Higher-point couplings can then be fixed using a bootstrap procedure which we illustrate at six points. We also discuss implications for the double copy in de Sitter space.

New recursions for tree-level correlators in (Anti) de Sitter space

We present for the first time classical multiparticle solutions in Anti de Sitter space (AdS) involving scalars, gluons, and gravitons. They are recursively defined through multiparticle currents which reduce to Berends-Giele currents in the flat space limit. This construction exposes a compact definition of tree-level boundary correlators using a general prescription that removes unphysical boundary contributions. Similarly to the flat space perturbiner, a convenient gauge choice leads to a scalar basis for all degrees of freedom, while the tensor structure is exclusively captured by field theory vertices. This provides a fully automated way to compute AdS boundary correlators to any multiplicity and cosmological wavefunction coefficients after Wick-rotating to de Sitter space.
