Estimates and Higher-Order Spectral Shift Measures in Several Variables

In recent years, higher-order trace formulas of operator functions have attracted considerable attention to a large part of the perturbation theory community. In this direction, we prove estimates for traces of higher-order derivatives of multivariable operator functions with associated scalar functions arising from multivariable analytic function space and, as a consequence, derive higher-order spectral shift measures for pairs of tuples of commuting contractions under Hilbert-Schmidt perturbations. These results substantially extend the main results of \cite{Sk15}, where the estimates were proved for traces of first and second-order derivatives of multivariable operator functions. In the context of the existence of higher-order spectral shift measures, our results extend the relative results of \cite{DySk09, PoSkSu14} from a single-variable to a multivariable setting under Hilbert-Schmidt perturbations. Our results rely crucially on heavy uses of explicit expressions of higher-order derivatives of operator functions and estimates of the divided deference of multivariable analytic functions, which are developed in this paper, along with the spectral theorem of tuples of commuting normal operators.

On Isometric Embeddability of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$ as non-commutative Quasi-Banach space

The existence of isometric embedding of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$, where $1\leq p\neq q\leq \infty$ and $m,n\geq 2$ has been recently studied in \cite{JFA22}. In this article, we extend the study of isometric embeddability beyond the above mentioned range of $p$ and $q$. More precisely, we show that there is no isometric embedding of the commutative quasi-Banach space $\ell_q^m(\R)$ into $\ell_p^n(\R)$, where $(q,p)\in (0,\infty)\times (0,1)$ and $p\neq q$. As non-commutative quasi-Banach spaces, we show that there is no isometric embedding of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$, where $(q,p)\in (0,2)\setminus \{1\}\times (0,1)$ $\cup\, \{1\}\times (0,1)\setminus \{\frac{1}{n}:n\in\mathbb{N}\}$ $\cup\, \{\infty\}\times (0,1)\setminus \{\frac{1}{n}:n\in\mathbb{N}\}$ and $p\neq q$. Moreover, in some restrictive cases, we also show that there is no isometric embedding of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$, where $(q,p)\in [2, \infty)\times (0,1)$. A new tool in our paper is the non-commutative Clarkson's inequality for Schatten class operators. Other tools involved are the Kato-Rellich theorem and multiple operator integrals in perturbation theory, followed by intricate computations involving power-series analysis.

Commutants and Complex Symmetry of Finite Blaschke Product Multiplication Operator in $\bm{L^2(\T)}$

Consider the multiplication operator $M_{B}$ in $L^2(\T)$, where the symbol $B$ is a finite Blaschke product. In this article, we characterize the commutant of $M_{B}$ in $L^2(\T)$, noting the fact that $L^2(\T)$ is not an RKHS. As an application of this characterization result, we explicitly determine the class of conjugations commuting with $M_{z^2}$ or making $M_{z^2}$ complex symmetric by introducing a new class of conjugations in $L^2(\T)$. Moreover, we analyze their properties while keeping the whole Hardy space, model space, and Beurling-type subspaces invariant. Furthermore, we extended our study concerning conjugations in the case of finite Blaschke.

Isometric Embeddability of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$

In this paper, we study existence of isometric embedding of $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n,$ where $1\leq p\neq q\leq \infty$ and $n\geq m\geq 2.$ We show that for all $n\geq m\geq 2$ if there exists a linear isometry from $S_q^m$ into $S_p^n$, where $(q,p)\in(1,\infty]\times(1,\infty) \cup(1,\infty)\setminus\{3\}\times\{1,\infty\}$ and $p\neq q,$ then we must have $q=2.$ This mostly generalizes a classical result of Lyubich and Vaserstein. We also show that whenever $S_q$ embeds isometrically into $S_p$ for $(q,p)\in \left(1,\infty\right)\times\left[2,\infty \right)\cup[4,\infty)\times\{1\} \cup\{\infty\}\times\left( 1,\infty\right)\cup[2,\infty)\times\{\infty\}$ with $p\neq q,$ we must have $q=2.$ Thus, our work complements work of Junge, Parcet, Xu and others on isometric and almost isometric embedding theory on non-commutative $L_p$-spaces. Our methods rely on several new ingredients related to perturbation theory of linear operators, namely Kato-Rellich theorem, theory of multiple operator integrals and Birkhoff-James orthogonality, followed by thorough and careful case by case analysis. The question whether for $m\geq 2$ and $1<q<2,$ $S_q^m$ embeds isometrically into $S_\infty^n$, was left open in \textit{Bull. London Math. Soc.} 52 (2020) 437-447.

Characterization of C-Symmetric Toeplitz operators for a Class of Conjugations in Hardy Spaces

In this article, we introduce a new class of conjugations in the scalar valued Hardy space $H^2_{\mathbb{C}}(\mathbb{D})$ and provide a characterization of a complex symmetric Toeplitz operator $T_ϕ$ with respect to these newly introduced conjugations in various cases. Moreover, we obtain a characterization of a complex symmetric block Toeplitz operator $T_Φ$ on the vector valued Hardy space $\hdct$ with respect to certain conjugations introduced in \cite{CamaGP,KangKoLee,LeeKo2019}.

Higher-order spectral shift for pairs of contractions via multiplicative path

In \cite{Mor}, Marcantognini and Morán obtained Koplienko-Neidhardt trace formula for pairs of contractions and pairs of maximal dissipative operators via multiplicative path. In this article, we prove the existence of higher-order spectral shift functions for pairs of contractions and pairs of maximal dissipative operators via multiplicative path by adapting the argument employed in \cite{Mor}.

Trace formula for contractions and it's representation in $\mathbb{D}$

The aim of this article is twofold: give a short proof of the existence of real spectral shift function and the associated trace formula for a pair of contractions, the difference of which is trace-class and one of the two a strict contraction, so that the set of assumptions is minimal in comparison to those in all the existing proofs. The second one is to find a trace formula for differences of functions of contraction and its adjoint, in which case, the integral in the formula is over the unit disc and has an expression surprisingly similar to the Helton-Howe formula.

Koplienko-Neidhardt trace formula for unitaries $-$ A new proof

Koplienko \cite{Ko} found a trace formula for perturbations of self-adjoint operators by operators of Hilbert-Schmidt class $\mathcal{B}_2(\mathcal{H})$. Later in 1988, a similar formula was obtained by Neidhardt \cite{NH} in the case of unitary operators. In this article, we give a still another proof of Koplienko-Neidhardt trace formula in the case of unitary operators by reducing the problem to a finite dimensional one as in the proof of Krein's trace formula by Voiculescu \cite{Voi}, Sinha and Mohapatra \cite{MoSi94,MoSi96}.

Study of nearly invariant subspaces with finite defect in Hilbert spaces

In this article, we briefly describe nearly $T^{-1}$ invariant subspaces with finite defect for a shift operator $T$ having finite multiplicity acting on a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ as a generalization of nearly $T^{-1}$ invariant subspaces introduced by Liang and Partington in \cite{YP}. In other words we characterize nearly $T^{-1}$ invariant subspaces with finite defect in terms of backward shift invariant subspaces in vector-valued Hardy spaces by using Theorem 3.5 in \cite{CDP}. Furthermore, we also provide a concrete representation of the nearly $T_B^{-1}$ invariant subspaces with finite defect in a scale of Dirichlet-type spaces $\mathcal{D}_α$ for $α\in [-1,1]$ corresponding to any finite Blashcke product $B$.

Almost invariant subspaces of the shift operator on vector-valued Hardy spaces

In this article, we characterize nearly invariant subspaces of finite defect for the backward shift operator acting on the vector-valued Hardy space which is a vectorial generalization of a result of Chalendar-Gallardo-Partington (C-G-P). Using this characterization of nearly invariant subspace under the backward shift we completely describe the almost invariant subspaces for the shift and its adjoint acting on the vector valued Hardy space.

Kernels of Perturbed Toeplitz Operators in vector-valued Hardy spaces

Recently, Liang and Partington \cite{YP} show that kernels of finite-rank perturbations of Toeplitz operators are nearly invariant with finite defect under the backward shift operator acting on the scalar-valued Hardy space. In this article we provide a vectorial generalization of a result of Liang and Partington. As an immediate application we identify the kernel of perturbed Toeplitz operator in terms of backward shift-invariant subspaces in various important cases by applying the recent theorem (\cite{CDP, OR}) in connection with nearly invariant subspaces of finite defect for the backward shift operator acting on the vector-valued Hardy space.

Multiplicities, invariant subspaces and an additive formula

Let $T = (T_1, \ldots, T_n)$ be a commuting tuple of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$. The multiplicity of $T$ is the cardinality of a minimal generating set with respect to $T$. In this paper, we establish an additive formula for multiplicities of a class of commuting tuples of operators. A special case of the main result states the following: Let $n \geq 2$, and let $\mathcal{Q}_i$, $i = 1, \ldots, n$, be a proper closed shift co-invariant subspaces of the Dirichlet space or the Hardy space over the unit disc in $\mathbb{C}$. If $\mathcal{Q}_i^{\bot}$, $i = 1, \ldots, n$, is a zero-based shift invariant subspace, then the multiplicity of the joint $M_{\boldsymbol{z}} = (M_{z_1}, \ldots, M_{z_n})$-invariant subspace $(\mathcal{Q}_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes \mathcal{Q}_n)^\perp$ of the Dirichlet space or the Hardy space over the unit polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$ is given by \[ \mbox{mult}_{M_{\boldsymbol z}|_{ (\mathcal{Q}_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes \mathcal{Q}_n)^\perp}} (\mathcal{Q}_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes \mathcal{Q}_n)^\perp = \sum_{i=1}^n (\mbox{mult}_{M_z|_{\mathcal{Q}_i^\perp}} (\mathcal{Q}_i^{\bot})) = n. \] A similar result holds for the Bergman space over the unit polydisc.

Rank of a co-doubly commuting submodule is 2

We prove that the rank of a non-trivial co-doubly commuting submodule is $2$. More precisely, let $φ, ψ\in H^\infty(\mathbb{D})$ be two inner functions. If $\mathcal{Q}_φ = H^2(\mathbb{D})/ φH^2(\mathbb{D})$ and $\mathcal{Q}_ψ = H^2(\mathbb{D})/ ψH^2(\mathbb{D})$, then \[ \mbox{rank~}(\mathcal{Q}_φ \otimes \mathcal{Q}_ψ)^\perp = 2. \] An immediate consequence is the following: Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a co-doubly commuting submodule of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)$. Then $\mbox{rank~} \mathcal{S} = 1$ if and only if $\mathcal{S} = ΦH^2(\mathbb{D}^2)$ for some one variable inner function $Φ\in H^\infty(\mathbb{D}^2)$. This answers a question posed by R. G. Douglas and R. Yang.

Inner multipliers and Rudin type invariant subspaces

Let $\mathcal{E}$ be a Hilbert space and $H^2_{\mathcal{E}}(\mathbb{D})$ be the $\mathcal{E}$-valued Hardy space over the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ in $\mathbb{C}$. The well known Beurling-Lax-Halmos theorem states that every shift invariant subspace of $H^2_{\mathcal{E}}(\mathbb{D})$ other than $\{0\}$ has the form $ΘH^2_{\mathcal{E}_*}(\mathbb{D})$, where $Θ$ is an operator-valued inner multiplier in $H^\infty_{B(\mathcal{E}_*, \mathcal{E})}(\mathbb{D})$ for some Hilbert space $\mathcal{E}_*$. In this paper we identify $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$ with $H^2(\mathbb{D}^{n-1})$-valued Hardy space $H^2_{H^2(\mathbb{D}^{n-1})}(\mathbb{D})$ and classify all such inner multiplier $Θ\in H^\infty_{\mathcal{B}(H^2(\mathbb{D}^{n-1}))}(\mathbb{D})$ for which $ΘH^2_{H^2(\mathbb{D}^{n-1})}(\mathbb{D})$ is a Rudin type invariant subspace of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$.

Star-Generating Vectors of Rudin's Quotient Modules

The purpose of this paper is to study a class of quotient modules of the Hardy module $H^2(D^n)$. Along with the two variables quotient modules introduced by W. Rudin, we introduce and study a large class of quotient modules, namely Rudin's quotient modules of $H^2(D^n)$. By exploiting the structure of minimal representations we obtain an explicit co-rank formula for Rudin's quotient modules.

Trace Formula For Two Variables

A natural generalization of Krein's theorem to a pair of commuting tuples $\left(H_1^0,H_2^0\right)$ and $\left(H_1,H_2\right)$ of bounded self-adjoint operators in a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ with $H_j-H_j^0 = V_j\in \mathcal{B}_2(\mathcal{H})$(set of all Hilbert-Schmidt operators on $\mathcal{H}$) for $j=1,2,$ leads to a Stokes-like formula under trace. A major ingredient in the proof is the finite-dimensional approximation result for commuting self-adjoint n-tuples of operators, a generalization of Weyl-von Neumann-Berg's theorem.

Cross commutators of Rudin's submodules

Let $b(z) = \prod_{n=1}^\infty \frac{-\barα_n}{|α_n|} \frac{z - α_n}{1 - \barα_n z}$, where $\sum_{n=1}^\infty (1 - |α_n|) <\infty$, be the Blaschke product with zeros at $α_n \in \mathbb{D} \setminus \{0\}$. Then $\cls = \vee_{n=1}^\infty \big(z^n H^2(\mathbb{D})\big) \otimes \big(\prod_{k=n}^\infty \frac{-\barα_n}{|α_n|} \frac{z - α_n}{1 - \barα_n z} H^2(\mathbb{D})\big)$ is a joint $(M_{z_1}, M_{z_2})$ invariant subspace of the Hardy space $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2) \cong H^2(\mathbb{D}) \otimes H^2(\mathbb{D})$. This class of subspaces was originally introduced by Rudin in the context of infinite cardinality of generating sets of shift invariant subspaces of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)$. \noindent In this paper we prove that for a Rudin invariant subspace $\cls$ of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^2)$, the cross commutator $[(P_{\cls} M_{z_1}|_{\cls})^*, M_{z_2}|_{\cls}] = (P_{\cls} M_{z_1} |_{\cls})^* (M_{z_2}|_{\cls}) - (M_{z_2}|_{\cls}) (P_{\cls} M_{z_1}|_{\cls})^*$ is not compact. Consequently, Rudin's invariant subspaces are both infinitely generated and not essentially doubly commuting.
