Bethe Ansatz, Inverse Scattering Transform and Tropical Riemann Theta Function in a Periodic Soliton Cellular Automaton for A^{(1)}_n

We study an integrable vertex model with a periodic boundary condition associated with U_q(A_n^{(1)}) at the crystallizing point q=0. It is an (n+1)-state cellular automaton describing the factorized scattering of solitons. The dynamics originates in the commuting family of fusion transfer matrices and generalizes the ultradiscrete Toda/KP flow corresponding to the periodic box-ball system. Combining Bethe ansatz and crystal theory in quantum group, we develop an inverse scattering/spectral formalism and solve the initial value problem based on several conjectures. The action-angle variables are constructed representing the amplitudes and phases of solitons. By the direct and inverse scattering maps, separation of variables into solitons is achieved and nonlinear dynamics is transformed into a straight motion on a tropical analogue of the Jacobi variety. We decompose the level set into connected components under the commuting family of time evolutions and identify each of them with the set of integer points on a torus. The weight multiplicity formula derived from the q=0 Bethe equation acquires an elegant interpretation as the volume of the phase space expressed by the size and multiplicity of these tori. The dynamical period is determined as an explicit arithmetical function of the n-tuple of Young diagrams specifying the level set. The inverse map, i.e., tropical Jacobi inversion is expressed in terms of a tropical Riemann theta function associated with the Bethe ansatz data. As an application, time average of some local variable is calculated.

T-systems and Y-systems for quantum affinizations of quantum Kac-Moody algebras

The T-systems and Y-systems are classes of algebraic relations originally associated with quantum affine algebras and Yangians. Recently the T-systems were generalized to quantum affinizations of a wide class of quantum Kac-Moody algebras by Hernandez. In this note we introduce the corresponding Y-systems and establish a relation between T and Y-systems. We also introduce the T and Y-systems associated with a class of cluster algebras, which include the former T and Y-systems of simply laced type as special cases.

Periodicities of T-systems and Y-systems

The unrestricted T-system is a family of relations in the Grothendieck ring of the category of the finite-dimensional modules of the Yangian or the quantum affine algebra associated with a complex simple Lie algebra. The unrestricted T-system admits a reduction called the restricted T-system. In this paper we formulate the periodicity conjecture for the restricted T-systems, which is the counterpart of the known and partially proved periodicity conjecture for the restricted Y-systems. Then, we partially prove the conjecture by various methods: the cluster algebra and cluster category method for the simply laced case, the determinant method for types A and C, and the direct method for types A, D, and B (level 2).

Spectrum in multi-species asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring

The spectrum of Hamiltonian (Markov matrix) of a multi-species asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring is studied. The dynamical exponent concerning the relaxation time is found to coincide with the one-species case. It implies that the system belongs to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang or Edwards-Wilkinson universality classes depending on whether the hopping rate is asymmetric or symmetric, respectively. Our derivation exploits a poset structure of the particle sectors, leading to a new spectral duality and inclusion relations. The Bethe ansatz integrability is also demonstrated.

Combinatorial Bethe ansatz and generalized periodic box-ball system

We reformulate the Kerov-Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KKR) map in the combinatorial Bethe ansatz from paths to rigged configurations by introducing local energy distribution in crystal base theory. Combined with an earlier result on the inverse map, it completes the crystal interpretation of the KKR bijection for U_q(\hat{sl}_2). As an application, we solve an integrable cellular automaton, a higher spin generalization of the periodic box-ball system, by an inverse scattering method and obtain the solution of the initial value problem in terms of the ultradiscrete Riemann theta function.

Tau functions in combinatorial Bethe ansatz

We introduce ultradiscrete tau functions associated with rigged configurations for A^{(1)}_n. They satisfy an ultradiscrete version of the Hirota bilinear equation and play a role analogous to a corner transfer matrix for the box-ball system. As an application, we establish a piecewise linear formula for the Kerov-Kirillov-Reshetikhin bijection in the combinatorial Bethe ansatz. They also lead to general N-soliton solutions of the box-ball system.

Bethe ansatz and inverse scattering transform in a periodic box-ball system

We formulate the inverse scattering method for a periodic box-ball system and solve the initial value problem. It is done by a synthesis of the combinatorial Bethe ansa"tze at q=1 and q=0, which provides the ultradiscrete analogue of quasi-periodic solutions in soliton equations, e.g., action-angle variables, Jacobi varieties, period matrices and so forth. As an application we establish explicit formulas counting the states characterized by conserved quantities and the generic and fundamental period under the commuting family of time evolutions.

Bethe ansatz at q=0 and periodic box-ball systems

A class of periodic soliton cellular automata is introduced associated with crystals of non-exceptional quantum affine algebras. Based on the Bethe ansatz at q=0, we propose explicit formulas for the dynamical period and the size of certain orbits under the time evolution in A^{(1)}_n case.

Crystal interpretation of Kerov-Kirillov-Reshetikhin bijection

The Kerov-Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KKR) bijection is the crux in proving fermionic formulas. It is defined by a combinatorial algorithm on rigged configurations and highest paths. We reformulate the KKR bijection as a vertex operator by purely using combinatorial R in crystal base theory. The result is viewed as a nested Bethe ansatz at q=0 as well as the direct and the inverse scattering (Gel'fand-Levitan) map in the associated soliton cellular automaton.

Periodic cellular automata and Bethe ansatz

We review and generalize the recent progress in a soliton cellular automaton known as the periodic box-ball system. It has the extended affine Weyl group symmetry and admits the commuting transfer matrix method and the Bethe ansatz at q=0. Explicit formulas are proposed for the dynamical period and the number of states characterized by conserved quantities.

Box-ball system with reflecting end

A soliton cellular automaton on a one dimensional semi-infinite lattice with a reflecting end is presented. It extends a box-ball system on an infinite lattice associated with the crystal base of U_q(sl_n). A commuting family of time evolutions are obtained by adapting the K matrices and the double row construction of transfer matrices in solvable lattice models to a crystal setting. Factorized scattering among the left and the right moving solitons and the boundary reflection rule are determined.

A Quantization of Box-Ball Systems

An L operator is presented related to an infinite dimensional limit of the fusion R matrices for U_q(A^{(1)}_{n-1}) and U_q(D^{(1)}_n). It is factorized into the local propagation operators which quantize the deterministic dynamics of particles and antiparticles in the soliton cellular automata known as the box-ball systems and their generalizations. Some properties of the dynamical amplitudes are also investigated.

Tropical R and Tau Functions

Tropical R is the birational map that intertwines products of geometric crystals and satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation. We show that the D^{(1)}_n tropical R introduced by the authors and its reduction to A^{(2)}_{2n-1} and C^{(1)}_n are equivalent to a system of bilinear difference equations of Hirota type. Associated tropical vertex models admit solutions in terms of tau functions of the BKP and DKP hierarchies.

Geometric Crystal and Tropical R for D^(1)_n

We construct a geometric crystal for the affine Lie algebra D^{(1)}_n in the sense of Berenstein and Kazhdan. Based on a matrix realization including a spectral parameter, we prove uniqueness and explicit form of the tropical R, the birational map that intertwines products of the geometric crystals. The tropical R commutes with geometric Kashiwara operators and satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation. It is subtraction-free and yields a piecewise linear formula of the combinatorial R for crystals upon ultradiscretization.

The canonical solutions of the Q-systems and the Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture

We study a class of systems of functional equations closely related to various kinds of integrable statistical and quantum mechanical models. We call them the finite and infinite Q-systems according to the number of functions and equations. The finite Q-systems appear as the thermal equilibrium conditions (the Sutherland-Wu equation) for certain statistical mechanical systems. Some infinite Q-systems appear as the relations of the normalized characters of the KR modules of the Yangians and the quantum affine algebras. We give two types of power series formulae for the unique solution (resp. the unique canonical solution) for a finite (resp. infinite) Q-system. As an application, we reformulate the Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture on the multiplicities formula of the KR modules in terms of the canonical solutions of Q-systems.
