Simple Algorithm for Factorized Dynamics of g_n-Automaton

We present an elementary algorithm for the dynamics of recently introduced soliton cellular automata associated with quantum affine algebra U_q(g_n) at q=0. For g_n = A^{(1)}_n, the rule reproduces the ball-moving algorithm in Takahashi-Satsuma's box-ball system. For non-exceptional g_n other than A^{(1)}_n, it is described as a motion of particles and anti-particles which undergo pair-annihilation and creation through a neutral bound state. The algorithm is formulated without using representation theory nor crystal basis theory.

Bethe Equation at q=0, Moebius Inversion Formula, and Weight Multiplicities: II. X_n case

We study a family of power series characterized by a system of recursion relations (Q-system) with a certain convergence property. We show that the coefficients of the series are expressed by the numbers which formally count the off-diagonal solutions of the U_q(X^{(1)}_n) Bethe equation at q=0. The series are conjectured to be the X_n-character of a certain family of irreducible finite-dimensional U_q(X^{(1)}_n) -modules which we call the KR (Kirillov-Reshetikhin) modules. Under the above conjecture, these coefficients give a formula of the weight multiplicities of the tensor products of the KR modules, which is also interpreted as the formal completeness of the XXZ-type Bethe vectors.

Factorization of Combinatorial R matrices and Associated Cellular Automata

Solvable vertex models in statistical mechanics give rise to soliton cellular automata at q=0 in a ferromagnetic regime. By means of the crystal base theory we study a class of such automata associated with non-exceptional quantum affine algebras U'_q(\hat{\geh}_n). Let B_l be the crystal of the U'_q(\hat{\geh}_n)-module corresponding to the l-fold symmetric fusion of the vector representation. For any crystal of the form B = B_{l_1} \otimes ... \otimes B_{l_N}, we prove that the combinatorial R matrix B_M \otimes B \xrightarrow{\sim} B \otimes B_M is factorized into a product of Weyl group operators in a certain domain if M is sufficiently large. It implies the factorization of certain transfer matrix at q=0, hence the time evolution in the associated cellular automata. The result generalizes the ball-moving algorithm in the box-ball systems.

Soliton Cellular Automata Associated With Crystal Bases

We introduce a class of cellular automata associated with crystals of irreducible finite dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras U'_q(\hat{\geh}_n). They have solitons labeled by crystals of the smaller algebra U'_q(\hat{\geh}_{n-1}). We prove stable propagation of one soliton for \hat{\geh}_n = A^{(2)}_{2n-1}, A^{(2)}_{2n}, B^{(1)}_n, C^{(1)}_n, D^{(1)}_n and D^{(2)}_{n+1}. For \gh_n = C^{(1)}_n, we also prove that the scattering matrices of two solitons coincide with the combinatorial R matrices of U'_q(C^{(1)}_{n-1})-crystals.

The A^{(1)}_M automata related to crystals of symmetric tensors

A soliton cellular automaton associated with crystals of symmetric tensor representations of the quantum affine algebra U'_q(A^{(1)}_M) is introduced. It is a crystal theoretic formulation of the generalized box-ball system in which capacities of boxes and carriers are arbitrary and inhomogeneous. Scattering matrices of two solitons coincide with the combinatorial R matrices of U'_q(A^{(1)}_{M-1}). A piecewise linear evolution equation of the automaton is identified with an ultradiscrete limit of the nonautonomous discrete KP equation. A class of N soliton solutions is obtained through the ultradiscretization of soliton solutions of the latter.

Combinatorial R matrices for a family of crystals : C^{(1)}_n and A^{(2)}_{2n-1} cases

The combinatorial R matrices are obtained for a family {B_l} of crystals for U'_q(C^{(1)}_n) and U'_q(A^{(2)}_{2n-1}), where B_l is the crystal of the irreducible module corresponding to the one-row Young diagram of length l. The isomorphism B_l\otimes B_k \simeq B_k \otimes B_l and the energy function are described explicitly in terms of a C_n-analogue of the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type insertion algorithm. As an application a C^{(1)}_n-analogue of the Kostka polynomials is calculated for several cases.

Remarks on Fermionic Formula

Fermionic formulae originate in the Bethe ansatz in solvable lattice models. They are specific expressions of some q-polynomials as sums of products of q-binomial coefficients. We consider the fermionic formulae associated with general non-twisted quantum affine algebra U_q(X^{(1)}_n) and discuss several aspects related to representation theories and combinatorics. They include crystal base theory, one dimensional sums, spinon character formulae, Q-system and combinatorial completeness of the string hypothesis for arbitrary X_n.

Finite Crystals and Paths

We consider a category of finite crystals of a quantum affine algebra whose objects are not necessarily perfect, and set of paths, semi-infinite tensor product of an object of this category with a certain boundary condition. It is shown that the set of paths is isomorphic to a direct sum of infinitely many, in general, crystals of integrable highest weight modules. We present examples from C_n^{(1)} and A_{n-1}^{(1)}, in which the direct sum becomes a tensor product as suggested from the Bethe Ansatz.

Continued fraction TBA and functional relations in XXZ model at root of unity

Thermodynamics of the spin 1/2 XXZ model is studied in the critical regime using the quantum transfer matrix (QTM) approach. We find functional relations indexed by the Takahashi-Suzuki numbers among the fusion hierarchy of the QTM's (T-system) and their certain combinations (Y-system). By investigating analyticity of the latter, we derive a closed set of non-linear integral equations which characterize the free energy and the correlation lengths for both and at any finite temperatures. Concerning the free energy, they exactly coincide with Takahashi-Suzuki's TBA equations based on the string hypothesis. By solving the integral equations numerically the correlation lengths are determined, which agrees with the earlier results in the low temperature limit.

Character Formulae of $\hat{sl}_n$-Modules and Inhomogeneous Paths

Let B_{(l)} be the perfect crystal for the l-symmetric tensor representation of the quantum affine algebra U'_q(\hat{sl(n)}). For a partition mu = (mu_1,...,mu_m), elements of the tensor product B_{(mu_1)} \otimes ... \otimes B_{(mu_m)} can be regarded as inhomogeneous paths. We establish a bijection between a certain large mu limit of this crystal and the crystal of an (generally reducible) integrable U_q(\hat{sl(n)})-module, which forms a large family depending on the inhomogeneity of mu kept in the limit. For the associated one dimensional sums, relations with the Kostka-Foulkes polynomials are clarified, and new fermionic formulae are presented. By combining their limits with the bijection, we prove or conjecture several formulae for the string functions, branching functions, coset branching functions and spinon character formula of both vertex and RSOS types.

Skew Young diagram method in spectral decomposition of integrable lattice models II: Higher levels

The spectral decomposition of the path space of the vertex model associated to the level $l$ representation of the quantized affine algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_n)$ is studied. The spectrum and its degeneracy are parametrized by skew Young diagrams and what we call nonmovable tableaux on them, respectively. As a result we obtain the characters for the degeneracy of the spectrum in terms of an alternating sum of skew Schur functions. Also studied are new combinatorial descriptions (spectral decomposition) of the Kostka numbers and the Kostka--Foulkes polynomials. As an application we give a new proof of Nakayashiki--Yamada's theorem about the branching functions of the level $l$ basic representation $lΛ_k$ of $\hat{sl}_n$ and a generalization of the theorem.

Skew Young diagram method in spectral decomposition of integrable lattice models

The spectral decomposition of the path space of the vertex model associated to the vector representation of the quantized affine algebra $U_q(\hat{sl}_n)$ is studied. We give a one-to-one correspondence between the spin configurations and the semi-standard tableaux of skew Young diagrams. As a result we obtain a formula of the characters for the degeneracy of the spectrum in terms of skew Schur functions. We conjecture that our result describes the $sl_n$-module contents of the Yangian $Y(sl_n)$-module structures of the level 1 integrable modules of the affine Lie algebra $\hat{sl}_n$. An analogous result is obtained also for a vertex model associated to the quantized twisted affine algebra $U_q(A^{(2)}_{2n})$, where $Y(B_n)$ characters appear for the degeneracy of the spectrum. The relation to the spectrum of the Haldane-Shastry and the Polychronakos models are also discussed.

Demazure Modules and Perfect Crystals

We give a criterion for the Demazure crystal $B_w(λ)$ defined by Kashiwara to have a tensor product structure. We study the $\sln$ symmetric tensor case, and see some Demazure characters are expressed using Kostka-Foulkes polynomials.

Pfaffian and Determinant Solutions to A Discretized Toda Equation for $B_r, C_r$ and $D_r$

We consider a class of 2 dimensional Toda equations on discrete space-time. It has arisen as functional relations in commuting family of transfer matrices in solvable lattice models associated with any classical simple Lie algebra $X_r$. For $X_r = B_r, C_r$ and $D_r$, we present the solution in terms of Pfaffians and determinants. They may be viewed as Yangian analogues of the classical Jacobi-Trudi formula on Schur functions.

Quantum Jacobi-Trudi and Giambelli Formulae for $U_q(B_r^{(1)})$ from Analytic Bethe Ansatz

Analytic Bethe ansatz is executed for a wide class of finite dimensional $U_q(B^{(1)}_r)$ modules. They are labeled by skew-Young diagrams which, in general, contain a fragment corresponding to the spin representation. For the transfer matrix spectra of the relevant vertex models, we establish a number of formulae, which are $U_q(B^{(1)}_r)$ analogues of the classical ones due to Jacobi-Trudi and Giambelli on Schur functions. They yield a full solution to the previously proposed functional relation ($T$-system), which is a Toda equation
