Parameterizations of the Hubble Constant: Logarithmic vs Power-Law Expansion from the Binned Master Sample of SNe Ia

In view of the current and increasing evidence of a running Hubble constant, we investigate its redshift dependence within the flat $\Lambda$CDM framework using a 20-bin analysis of the Master SNe~Ia Sample \citep{2025JHEAp..4800405D}, considering cases with and without very low-redshift data. For each case, we obtain best-fitting values of $H_0$ and $\Omega_{m0}$, and employ both logarithmic \citep{2025arXiv250902636L} and power-law \citep{2021ApJ...912..150D,2022Galax..10...24D,2025JHEAp..4800405D} parameterizations. The two parameterizations are consistent over the redshift range considered and coincide for low redshifts. To assess their behavior at earlier epochs, we extrapolate both forms to the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) era ($z\simeq1100$), Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN, $z\sim10^{9}$), and inflationary scales ($z\sim10^{20}$). The reconstructed Hubble constant remains nearly indistinguishable up to the CMB scale, diverges at the few-to-ten percent level around BBN, and differs more substantially when extrapolated to inflationary redshifts. A qualitative distinction emerges at very-high redshift: the logarithmic form predicts a vanishing of $\mathcal{H}_0^{\mathrm{Log}}(z)$ at finite $z$, while the power-law form, $\mathcal{H}_0^{\mathrm{PL}}(z)$, approaches zero asymptotically as $z \rightarrow \infty$. In future studies, independent high-redshift observations and extensions beyond $\Lambda$CDM, such as $f(R)$ modified gravity, could allow a comparative study of the two parameterizations beyond the SNe~Ia regime and their high-$z$ physical implications.

Energy Reflection and Transmission of Interfaces in $T\bar{T}$-deformed CFT

Conformal interfaces gluing a pair of two-dimensional conformal field theories enjoy a large degree of universality in terms of the coefficients of reflection and transmission of energy, that describe the scattering of conformal matter at the interface. In this article, we study these coefficients beyond conformality, by gluing a pair of $T\bar T$-deformed 2D CFTs across an interface, which requires the condition $c_L \mu_L = c_R \mu_R $ to be obeyed. We show that, at least when the interface admits a holographic description, the $T\bar T$ deformation of the CFTs can be extended to the interface. We propose a generalization of the linear matching condition in the universal sector of the undeformed ICFT to a non-linear one, which is captured by a universal antisymmetric \emph{transmission function} of the incoming fluxes. We employ the flow equations of the $T\bar T$-deformed CFTs to compute this function in two special classes of states, namely the non-equilibrium steady state (NESS) and scattering state. We show that the results can also be reproduced using holographic techniques in the bulk dual of these states.

Light Vector Dark Matter via a Magnetic Dipole Portal: Bridging Direct Detection and Fixed-Target Searches

We present a model featuring sub-GeV vector dark matter by augmenting the Standard Model with a new non-Abelian dark $SU(2)_D$, spontaneously broken by the vacuum expectation values of a scalar doublet and a triplet. Interactions between the dark and visible sectors arise through a dimension-5 non-Abelian \textit{avatar} of kinetic mixing portal, inducing effective magnetic dipole couplings of the dark matter, with the photon and Z boson. The resulting spectrum of the dark gauge bosons naturally exhibits an inverse mass hierarchy between the dark matter and the $Z^\prime$, leading to interesting phenomenology at fixed-target experiments such as LDMX through dark off-shell bremsstrahlung, dark Higgs-strahlung, invisible vector meson decay, and visible decays. We compute the thermal relic abundance across sub-GeV dark matter masses, with regions of freeze-out proceeding via annihilation into dark sector states or direct annihilation into Standard Model states. Bounds from a broad set of laboratory probes, along with cosmological and astrophysical observations, are incorporated in our analysis. Among them, the most restrictive bounds originate from direct detection experiments, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, collider searches, and the CMB. Our results demonstrate that a sizeable region of parameter space remains consistent with the observed relic abundance and current experimental constraints, and that fixed-target searches should be considered in tandem with direct detection and cosmological probes for an effective and comprehensive search strategy, especially in the off-shell regime.

On decoding the string from interfaces in 2d conformal field theories

General solutions of a gravitational junction between two copies of a three-dimensional Einstein manifold $\mathcal{M}$ correspond to the solutions of the non-linear Nambu-Goto equation for a string in $\mathcal{M}$. We show that, for the junctions in three-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetimes constituted by tensile strings, which are dual to interfaces between thermal states in conformal field theories, the solutions of the Nambu-Goto equation describing the junction correspond to wave-packets, which are perfectly reflected at the interface to future null infinity \textit{without shape distortion} when incident from past null infinity. These wavepackets are realized by half-sided conformal transformations and affect the expectation value of the displacement operator. We further show that the entanglement entropy of an interval straddling the interface deciphers the stringy modes of the dual junction even in the tensionless limit. We also demonstrate that the strong sub-additivity of entanglement entropy is satisfied and is saturated for symmetric intervals generally.

Drell-Yan constraints on charged scalars: a weak isospin perspective

Charged scalars appear in many motivated extensions beyond the Standard Model. We analyze the constraints on charged scalar pair production via the Drell-Yan process at the Large Hadron Collider and interpret them in terms of weak isospin quantum numbers. Leveraging the experimental limits from existing LHC data and phenomenological recast analyses, we place bounds on the branching ratio of the charged scalar, as a function of its mass, electric charge, and isospin. This approach enables to determine limits on the branching ratios directly from experimental data, without appealing to a specific model. We provide a detailed analysis for singly and doubly charged scalars across various weak isospin scenarios, focusing on decays into leptonic and bosonic final states, and validate this approach in extended Higgs sectors such as the Higgs triplet model and Georgi-Machacek model.

Accidental Symmetry Near Extreme Spinning Black Holes

Near the horizon of extremal charged black holes, an accidental symmetry is known to act on zero-temperature perturbations, transforming them into finite-temperature ones. In this paper, we uncover the corresponding accidental symmetry of the vacuum Einstein equation near the horizon of extremal spinning black holes. To do so, we first devise a new method of deriving the symmetry near the ${\rm AdS}_2 \times S^2$ near-horizon geometry of extreme Reissner-Nordstr\"om, using a new scaling coordinate transformation that unifies the near-horizon limits of extremal and near-extremal black holes in a way that is regular at zero temperature. We use our new method to obtain the accidental symmetry in the near-horizon of extreme Kerr (NHEK). We show that accidental symmetries combine neatly with the near-horizon isometries inside a Virasoro algebra.

Dark matter cooling during early matter-domination boosts sub-earth halos

The existence of an early matter-dominated epoch prior to the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis may lead to a scenario where the thermal dark matter cools faster than plasma before the radiation-dominated era begins. In the radiation-dominated epoch, dark matter free-streams after it decouples both chemically and kinetically from the plasma. In the presence of an early matter-dominated era, chemical decoupling of the dark matter may succeed by a partial kinetic decoupling before reheating ends, depending upon the contributions of different partial wave amplitudes in the elastic scattering rate of the dark matter. We show that the s-wave scattering is sufficient to partially decouple the dark matter from the plasma, if the entropy injection during the reheating era depends on the bath temperature, while p-wave scattering leads to full decoupling in such cosmological backdrop. The decoupling of dark matter before the end of reheating causes an additional amount of cooling, reducing its free-streaming horizon compared to the usual radiation-dominated cosmology. The enhanced matter perturbations for scales entering the horizon prior to the end of reheating, combined with the reduced free-steaming horizon, increase the number density of sub-earth mass halos. The resulting boost in the dark matter annihilation signatures could offer an intriguing probe to differentiate pre-BBN non-standard cosmological epochs. We show that the free-streaming horizon of the dark matter requires to be smaller than a cut-off to ensure a boost in the sub-earth halo populations. As case studies we present two examples: one for a scalar dark matter with $s$-wave elastic scattering and the other one featuring a fermionic dark matter with $p$-wave elastic scattering. We identify regions of parameter space in both models where the dark matter kinetically decouples during reheating, amplifying small-scale structure formation.

Phase transition and gravitational waves in maximally symmetric composite Higgs model

In this paper we study phase transitions in a maximally symmetric composite Higgs model with next-to-minimal coset, where a pseudoscalar singlet emerges alongside the Higgs doublet. The maximal symmetry guarantees the finiteness of the radiatively generated scalar potential. We explore the scenario involving an explicit source of CP violation in the strong sector, which induces a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ asymmetric scalar potential, and consequently leads to nonzero vacuum expectation value for the singlet. Current experimental bounds from the LHC are imposed on the masses of the composite resonances, while the CP violating interactions of the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons are tightly constrained from the measurements of the electric dipole moment of the electron. We compute the finite temperature corrections to the potential, incorporating the momentum-dependent form factors in the loop integrals to capture the effect of the strong dynamics. The impact of the resonances from the strong sector on the finite temperature potential are exponentially suppressed. The presence of explicit CP violation leads to strong first-order phase transition from a false vacuum to the electroweak vacuum where the pseudoscalar singlet has a non-zero vacuum expectation value. We illustrate that, as a result of such phase transitions, the production of potentially observable gravitational waves at future detectors will offer a complementary avenue to probe the composite Higgs models, distinct from collider experiments.

Vector-like quarks: status and new directions at the LHC

Experimental searches for vector-like quarks have until now only considered their decays into Standard Model particles. However, various new physics scenarios predict additional scalars, so that these vector-like quarks can decay to new channels. These new channels reduce the branching ratios into Standard Model final states, significantly affecting current mass bounds. In this article, we quantitatively assess the relevance and observability of single and pair production processes of vector-like quarks, followed by decays into both standard and exotic final states. We highlight the importance of large widths and the relative interaction strengths with Standard Model particles and new scalars. Then, we review the post-Moriond 2024 status of these models in light of available LHC data and discuss potential future strategies to enhance the scope of vector-like quark searches.

Bounds on $T\bar {T}$ deformation from entanglement

Motivated by the existence of complex spectrum in $T\bar T$-deformed CFTs, in this paper we revisit the broadly studied topic of (holographic) entanglement entropy in the deformed theory to investigate its complex behaviour. As a concrete example, we show that in case of a 1+1 dimensional holographic CFT at finite temperature $\beta^{-1}$ and chemical potential $\Omega$, the holographic entanglement entropy in the deformed theory remains to be real only within the range $-\frac{\beta^2}{8\pi^2}\frac{(1-\Omega^2)^2}{\Omega^2}< \mu < \frac{\beta^2}{8\pi^2}(1-\Omega^2) $ of the deformation parameter. While the upper bound overlaps with the familiar Hagedorn bound in the deformed theory, the novel lower bound on the negative values of the deformation parameter does not show up in thermodynamic quantities. However, from a holographic perspective we show that this intriguing lower bound is related to a spacelike to null transition of the associated Ryu-Takayanagi surface in the deformed geometry. We also investigate the Quantum Null Energy Condition in the deformed theory, within its regime of validity.

Nambu-Goto equation from three-dimensional gravity

We demonstrate that the solutions of three-dimensional gravity obtained by gluing two copies of a spacetime across a junction constituted of a tensile string are in one-to-one correspondence with the solutions of the Nambu-Goto equation in the same spacetime up to a finite number of rigid deformations related to worldsheet and spacetime isometries. The non-linear Nambu-Goto equation satisfied by the average of the embedding coordinates of the junction emerges directly from the junction conditions along with the rigid deformations and corrections due to the tension. Therefore, the equivalence principle generalizes non-trivially to the string. Our results are valid both in three-dimensional flat and AdS spacetimes. In the context of AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ correspondence, our setup could be used to describe a class of interfaces in the conformal field theory featuring relative time reparametrization at the interface which encodes the solution of the Nambu-Goto equation corresponding to the bulk junction.

Heavy vector-like quarks decaying to exotic scalars: a case study with triplets

We investigate the pair production of a vector-like quark triplet with hypercharge 5/3 decaying into top quark and a complex scalar triplet with hypercharge 1 at the LHC. This novel scenario, featuring particles with exotic charges - two quarks with charge 8/3 and 5/3 and a scalar with charge 2 - serves as a unique window to models based on the framework of partial compositeness, where these particles naturally emerge as bound states around the TeV scale. Leveraging on the LHC data we establish exclusion limits on the masses of the vector-like quark and the scalar triplet. Subsequently, we design an analysis strategy aimed at improving sensitivity in the region which is still allowed. Our analysis focuses on two specific regions in the parameter space: the first entails a large mass gap between the vector-like quarks and the scalars, so that the vector-like quarks can decay into the scalars; the second involves a small mass gap, such that this decay is forbidden. To simplify the parameter space, both vector-like quarks and scalars are assumed to be degenerate or almost degenerate within the triplets, such that chain decays between fermions and scalars are suppressed. As a result, we found that final states characterized by a same-sign lepton pair, multiple jets, and high net transverse momentum (i.e. effective mass) will play a pivotal role to unveil this model and, more in general, models characterised by multiple vector-like quarks around the same mass scale during the high luminosity LHC phase.

How Gubser flow ends in a holographic conformal theory

Gubser flow is an axis-symmetric and boost-invariant evolution in a relativistic quantum field theory which is best studied by mapping $\mathbf{R}^{3,1}$ to $dS_{3}\times \mathbf{R}$ when the field theory has conformal symmetry. We show that at late de-Sitter time, which corresponds to large proper time and central region of the future wedge within $\mathbf{R}^{3,1}$, the holographic conformal field theory plasma can reach a state in which $\varepsilon = P_T = - P_L$, with $\varepsilon$, $P_T$ and $P_L$ being the energy density, transverse and longitudinal pressures, respectively. We further determine the full sub-leading behaviour of the energy-momentum tensor at late time. Restricting to flows in which the energy density decays at large transverse distance from the central axis in $\mathbf{R}^{3,1}$, we show that this decay should be faster than any power law. Furthermore, in this case the energy density also vanishes in $\mathbf{R}^{3,1}$ faster than any power as we go back to early proper time. Hydrodynamic behavior can appear in intermediate time.

Vacuum misalignment in presence of four-Fermi operators

We consider the issue of vacuum misalignment induced by four-Fermi couplings in a generic strongly coupled four-dimensional gauge theory. After briefly reviewing the general formalism, we focus on the case of partial compositness-like operators at leading order, which is relevant in applications to phenomenology. We show that the interactions between an elementary fermion and composite spin-1/2 operators in various representations contribute to the effective potential with relative sign differences. Thus the correct sign required to misalign the vacuum is guaranteed to occur for some representations but not all of them. The overall sign dictating the specific representations responsible for misalignment can in principle be determined on the lattice. We also comment on the likely sign for some simple cases.

Correlation functions of the Bjorken flow in the holographic Schwinger-Keldysh approach

One of the outstanding problems in the holographic approach to many-body physics is the explicit computation of correlation functions in nonequilibrium states. We provide a new and simple proof that the horizon cap prescription of Crossley-Glorioso-Liu for implementing the thermal Schwinger-Keldysh contour in the bulk is consistent with the Kubo-Martin-Schwinger periodicity and the ingoing boundary condition for the retarded propagator at any arbitrary frequency and momentum. The generalization to the hydrodynamic Bjorken flow is achieved by a Weyl rescaling in which the dual black hole's event horizon attains a constant surface gravity and area at late time although the directions longitudinal and transverse to the flow expands and contract respectively. The dual state's temperature and entropy density thus become constants (instead of the perfect fluid expansion) although no time-translation symmetry emerges at late time. Undoing the Weyl rescaling, the correlation functions can be computed systematically in a large proper time expansion in inverse powers of the average of the two reparametrized proper time arguments. The horizon cap has to be pinned to the nonequilibrium event horizon so that regularity and consistency conditions are satisfied. Consequently, in the limit of perfect fluid expansion, the Schwinger-Keldysh correlation functions with space-time reparametrized arguments are simply thermal at an appropriate temperature. A generalized bilocal thermal structure holds to all orders. We argue that the Stokes data (which are functions rather than constants) for the hydrodynamic correlation functions can decode the quantum fluctuations behind the horizon cap pinned to the evolving event horizon, and thus the initial data.

Fingerprints of freeze-in dark matter in an early matter-dominated era

We study the impact of an alternate cosmological history with an early matter-dominated epoch on the freeze-in production of dark matter. Such early matter domination is triggered by a meta-stable matter field dissipating into radiation. In general, the dissipation rate has a non-trivial temperature and scale factor dependence. Compared to the usual case of dark matter production via the freeze-in mechanism in a radiation-dominated universe, in this scenario, orders of magnitude larger coupling between the visible and the dark sector can be accommodated. Finally, as a proof of principle, we consider a specific model where the dark matter is produced by a sub-GeV dark photon having a kinetic mixing with the Standard Model photon. We point out that the parameter space of this model can be probed by the experiments in the presence of an early matter-dominated era.
