Non-planar universal anomalous dimension of twist-two operators with general Lorentz spin at four loops in N=4 SYM theory

We compute the non-planar contribution to the universal anomalous dimension of twist-two operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at four loops through Lorentz spin eighteen. Exploiting the results of this and our previous calculations along with recent analytic results for the cusp anomalous dimension and some expected analytic properties, we reconstruct a general expression valid for arbitrary Lorentz spin. We study various properties of this general result, such as its large-spin limit, its small-x limit, and others. In particular, we present a prediction for the non-planar contribution to the anomalous dimension of the single-magnon operator in the beta-deformed version of the theory.

Non-planar cusp and transcendental anomalous dimension at four loops in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

We compute the nonplanar contribution to the universal anomalous dimension of the SU(4)-singlet twist-two operators in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at four loops through Lorentz spin 18. From this, we numerically evaluate the nonplanar contribution to the four-loop lightlike cusp anomalous dimension and derive the transcendental $ζ_3$ and $ζ_5$ parts of the universal anomalous dimension for arbitrary Lorentz spin in analytic form. As for the lightlike cusp anomalous dimension and the $ζ_5$ part of the universal anomalous dimension, we confirm previous results.

Static Potential of the Standard Model and Spontaneously Broken Theories

We consider the static potential in theories exhibiting spontaneous symmetry breaking. We use our findings to calculate the static potential of the Standard Model at one-loop order. We do so in both the Wilson loop and scattering amplitude approaches and discuss the limitations of the Wilson loop approach. As the field content of the SM is extensive, analogous results to ours in a large set of models is now achievable by varying the appropriate couplings and group theory factors.

Electroweak Form Factor in Sudakov and Threshold Regimes with Effective Field Theories

We compute the massive gauge and scalar corrections to form factors in both the Sudakov and threshold regimes up to and including two-loop orders. The corrections are calculated for processes involving two external fermions and scalars in the spontaneously broken SU(N)-Higgs model, examining a range of composite operators. Our results are general, so we discuss how our form factors are mappable from our model to the Standard Model and beyond. The effective theory formalism deployed in our work extends previous studies based on infrared evolution equations, which either neglect scalar contributions or are restricted to the Sudakov regime.

Theory for the FCC-ee : Report on the 11th FCC-ee Workshop

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) at CERN, a proposed 100-km circular facility with several colliders in succession, culminates with a 100 TeV proton-proton collider. It offers a vast new domain of exploration in particle physics, with orders of magnitude advances in terms of Precision, Sensitivity and Energy. The implementation plan foresees, as a first step, an Electroweak Factory electron-positron collider. This high luminosity facility, operating between 90 and 365 GeV centre-of-mass energy, will study the heavy particles of the Standard Model, Z, W, Higgs, and top with unprecedented accuracy. The Electroweak Factory $e^+e^-$ collider constitutes a real challenge to the theory and to precision calculations, triggering the need for the development of new mathematical methods and software tools. A first workshop in 2018 had focused on the first FCC-ee stage, the Tera-Z, and confronted the theoretical status of precision Standard Model calculations on the Z-boson resonance to the experimental demands. The second workshop in January 2019, which is reported here, extended the scope to the next stages, with the production of W-bosons (FCC-ee-W), the Higgs boson (FCC-ee-H) and top quarks (FCC-ee-tt). In particular, the theoretical precision in the determination of the crucial input parameters, alpha_QED, alpha_QCD, M_W, m_t at the level of FCC-ee requirements is thoroughly discussed. The requirements on Standard Model theory calculations were spelled out, so as to meet the demanding accuracy of the FCC-ee experimental potential. The discussion of innovative methods and tools for multi-loop calculations was deepened. Furthermore, phenomenological analyses beyond the Standard Model were discussed, in particular the effective theory approaches. The reports of 2018 and 2019 serve as white papers of the workshop results and subsequent developments.

$Λ_c^{\pm}$ production in pp collisions with a new fragmentation function

We study inclusive $Λ_c^{\pm}$-baryon production in $pp$ collisions in the general-mass variable-flavor number scheme and compare with data from the LHCb, ALICE and CMS collaborations. We perform a new fit of the $c \to Λ_c^+$ fragmentation function combining $e^+e^-$ data from OPAL and Belle. The agreement with LHC data is slightly worse compared with a calculation using an older fragmentation function, and the tension between different determinations of $Λ_c^{\pm}$ production cross sections from the LHC experimental collaborations is not resolved. The ratio of data for $Λ_c^+$-baryon and $D^0$-meson production seems to violate the universality of $c$-charm quark to $c$-hadron fragmentation.

Renormalization of parton quasi-distributions beyond the leading order: spacelike vs. timelike

We argue that the renormalization factors for nonlocal quark-antiquark and gluon operators at space-like and time-like separations connected by a Wilson line coincide to all orders in perturbation theory. We calculate the anomalous dimensions and renormalization constants of quark-antiquark and gluon operators to three- and two-loop accuracy, respectively, and also compute vacuum expectation values of these operators to three-loop accuracy.

Two-loop diagrams in non-relativistic QCD with elliptics

In this paper we consider two-loop two-, three- and four-point diagrams with elliptic structure in the case of two different masses $m$ and $M$. The latter diagrams generally arise within NRQCD matching procedures and are relevant for parapositronium decay and top pair production at threshold. We present the obtained results in several different representations: series solution with binomial coefficients, integral representation and representation in terms of generalized hypergeometric functions. The results are valid up to $\mathcal{O}(\varepsilon)$ terms in $d=4-2\varepsilon$ space-time dimensions. In the limit of equal masses $m=M$ the obtained results are written in terms of elliptic constants with explicit series representation.

B-meson production in the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme and LHC data

We study inclusive $B$-meson production in $pp$ collisions at the LHC and compare experimental data with predictions of the general-mass variable-flavour-number scheme at next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD. We find almost perfect agreement provided that the factorization scale parameters and the parton distribution functions are chosen appropriately.

On the $b$-quark running mass in QCD and the SM

We consider electroweak corrections to the relation between the running $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ mass $m_b$ of the $b$ quark in the five-flavor QCD$\times$QED effective theory and its counterpart in the Standard Model (SM). As a bridge between the two parameters, we use the pole mass $M_b$ of the $b$ quark, which can be calculated in both models. The running mass is not a fundamental parameter of the SM Lagrangian, but the product of the running Yukawa coupling $y_b$ and the Higgs vacuum expectation value. Since there exist different prescriptions to define the latter, the relations considered in the paper involve a certain amount of freedom. All the definitions can be related to each other in perturbation theory. Nevertheless, we argue in favor of a certain gauge-independent prescription and provide a relation which can be directly used to deduce the value of the Yukawa coupling of the $b$ quark at the electroweak scale from its effective QCD running mass. This approach allows one to resum large logarithms $\ln(m_b/M_t)$ systematically. Numerical analysis shows that, indeed, the corrections to the proposed relation are much smaller than those between $y_b$ and $M_b$.

Prompt neutrinos from atmospheric charm in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme

We present predictions for the prompt-neutrino flux arising from the decay of charmed mesons and baryons produced by the interactions of high-energy cosmic rays in the Earth's atmosphere, making use of a QCD approach on the basis of the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme for the description of charm hadroproduction at NLO, complemented by a consistent set of fragmentation functions. We compare the theoretical results to those already obtained by our and other groups with different theoretical approaches. We provide comparisons with the experimental results obtained by the IceCube Collaboration in two different analyses and we discuss the implications for parton distribution functions.

$ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ hadroproduction in the parton Reggeization approach: Yield, polarization, and the role of fragmentation

The hadroproduction of the radially excited heavy-quarkonium states $ψ(2S)$ and $Υ(3S)$ at high energies is studied in the parton reggeization approach and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic QCD at lowest order in the strong-coupling constant $α_s$ and the relative heavy-quark velocity $v$. A satisfactory description of the $ψ(2S)$ transverse-momentum ($p_T$) distributions measured by ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{S}=7$ TeV is obtained using the color-octet long-distance matrix elements (LDMEs) extracted from CDF data at $\sqrt{S}=1.96$ TeV. The importance of the fragmentation mechanism and the scale evolution of the fragmentation functions in the upper $p_T$ range, beyond 30 GeV, is demonstrated. The $Υ(3S)$ $p_T$ distributions measured by CDF at $\sqrt{S}=1.8$ TeV and by LHCb at $\sqrt{S}=7$ TeV and forward rapidities are well described using LDMEs fitted to ATLAS data at $\sqrt{S}=7$ TeV. Comparisons of polarization measurements by CDF and CMS at large $p_T$ values with our predictions consolidate the familiar problem in the $ψ(2S)$ case, but yield reasonable agreement in the $Υ(3S)$ case.

Prompt-photon plus jet photoproduction with ZEUS at DESY HERA in the parton Reggeization approach

We study the photoproduction of isolated prompt photons associated with hadron jets in the framework of the parton Reggeization approach. The main improvements with respect to previous studies in the k_T-factorization framework include the application of the Reggeized-quark formalism, the generation of exactly gauge-invariant amplitudes with off-shell initial-state quarks, and the exact treatment of the gamma+R -> gamma+g box contribution with off-shell initial-state gluons. In this proceedings, the new data set, published recently by ZEUS collaboration is analyzed, were the distributions in photon and jet rapidity, transverse energy, azimuthal angle between photon and jet and proton momentum fraction are presented for different values of measured photon momentum fraction x_gamma <0.7, 0.8 and x_gamma>0.8$. The good agreement of measured distributions with our predictions is observed for the direct-dominating part of the data set. The comparison with the previous calculations in k_T-factorization, role of nonfactorizable higher-order and hadronization corrections is discussed.

High-precision $α_s$ measurements from LHC to FCC-ee

This document provides a writeup of all contributions to the workshop on "High precision measurements of $α_s$: From LHC to FCC-ee" held at CERN, Oct. 12--13, 2015. The workshop explored in depth the latest developments on the determination of the QCD coupling $α_s$ from 15 methods where high precision measurements are (or will be) available. Those include low-energy observables: (i) lattice QCD, (ii) pion decay factor, (iii) quarkonia and (iv) $τ$ decays, (v) soft parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, as well as high-energy observables: (vi) global fits of parton distribution functions, (vii) hard parton-to-hadron fragmentation functions, (viii) jets in $e^\pm$p DIS and $γ$-p photoproduction, (ix) photon structure function in $γ$-$γ$, (x) event shapes and (xi) jet cross sections in $e^+e^-$ collisions, (xii) W boson and (xiii) Z boson decays, and (xiv) jets and (xv) top-quark cross sections in proton-(anti)proton collisions. The current status of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties associated to each extraction method, the improvements expected from LHC data in the coming years, and future perspectives achievable in $e^+e^-$ collisions at the Future Circular Collider (FCC-ee) with $\cal{O}$(1--100 ab$^{-1}$) integrated luminosities yielding 10$^{12}$ Z bosons and jets, and 10$^{8}$ W bosons and $τ$ leptons, are thoroughly reviewed. The current uncertainty of the (preliminary) 2015 strong coupling world-average value, $α_s(m_Z)$ = 0.1177 $\pm$ 0.0013, is about 1\%. Some participants believed this may be reduced by a factor of three in the near future by including novel high-precision observables, although this opinion was not universally shared. At the FCC-ee facility, a factor of ten reduction in the $α_s$ uncertainty should be possible, mostly thanks to the huge Z and W data samples available.

Stability of the Electroweak Vacuum: Gauge Independence and Advanced Precision

We perform a manifestly gauge-independent analysis of the vacuum stability in the Standard Model (SM) including two-loop matching, three-loop renormalization group evolution, and pure QCD corrections through four loops. All these ingredients are exact, except that light-fermion masses are neglected. We in turn apply the criterion of nullifying the $\overline{\mathrm{MS}}$ Higgs self-coupling and its beta function and a recently proposed consistent method for determining the true minimum of the effective Higgs potential that also avoids gauge dependence. Exploiting our knowledge of the Higgs-boson mass, we derive an upper bound on the pole mass of the top quark by requiring that the SM be stable all the way up to the Planck mass scale and conservatively estimate the theoretical uncertainty. This bound is compatible with Monte Carlo mass quoted by the Particle Data Group at the $1.3σ$ level.

Electroweak corrections to $Z$-boson hadroproduction at finite transverse momentum

We calculate the full one-loop electroweak radiative corrections, of ${\cal O}(α^2α_s)$, to the cross section of single $Z$-boson inclusive hadroproduction at finite transverse momentum ($p_T$). This includes the ${\cal O}(α)$ corrections to $Z+j$ production, the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ corrections to $Z+γ$ production, and certain QCD-electroweak interference contributions involving a single quark trace. We recover the QCD and purely weak corrections and study the QED corrections and the QCD-electroweak interference contributions for the first time. We also consider direct and resolved photoproduction in elastic and inelastic scattering. We present $p_T$ and rapidity distributions for the experimental conditions at the Fermilab Tevatron and the CERN LHC and assess the significance of the various contributions.

Inclusive B-meson production at small p_T in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme

We calculate the cross section for the inclusive production of B mesons in pp and ppbar collisions at next-to-leading order in the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme and show that a suitable choice of factorization scales leads to a smooth transition to the fixed-flavor-number scheme. Our numerical results are in good agreement with data from the Tevatron and LHC experiments at small and at large transverse momenta.
