Noncommutative Gauge Fields and Mass Generation

It is well known that a typical Yang-Mills Gauge Field is mediated by massless Bosons. It is only through a symmetry breaking mechanism, as in the Salam-Weinberg model that the quanta of such an interaction field acquire a mass in the usual theory. Here we demonstrate that without taking recourse to the usual symmetry breaking mechanism, it is possible to have massive Gauge Fields, given a noncommutative geometrical underpinning for spacetime.

A Gauge Like Formulation of Gravitation and Related Issues

After many fruitless decades of trying to unify electromagnetism and gravitation, it is now being realized that this can be done only in discrete spacetime, as indeed the author had demonstrated. In this context, a unified description of gravitation and electromagnetism is provided within the framework of a gauge like formulation. Following the discrete spacetime structure, we then argue that the underpinning for the universe is an array of Planck scale oscillators.

Discrete Space Time and Dark Energy

In recent times, Discrete Space Time Architectures are being considered, in the context of Quantum Gravity, Quantum Super Strings, Dark Energy and so on. We show that such a scheme is intimately tied up with a varying $G$ cosmology, which again explains otherwise inexplicable observations like the anomalous accelerations of Pioneer space crafts as also considerations involving the Zero Point Field, Random Electrodynamics and the derivation of Quantum Mechanical effects therefrom as also intertial mass.

Dark Energy, Gravitation and Electromagnetism

In the context of the fact that the existence of dark energy causing the accelerated expansion of the universe has been confirmed by the WMAP and the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we re-examine gravitation itself, starting with the formulation of Sakharov and show that it is possible to obtain gravitation in terms of the electromagnetic charge of elementary particles, once the ZPF and its effects at the Compton scale are taken into account.

The Fuzzy Space Time Paradigm

We briefly review theories of fuzzy spacetime or with a spacetime cut off, particularising on the author's own model which correctloy predicted the present cosmological model of an accelerating universe and dark energy, and which points to a unification of electromagnetism and gravitation and which has several ramifications including the prediction of deviations from Special Relativity at Ultra High Energies, as observations of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays seem to confirm, amongst other issues.

The Magnetism of Neutron States

The recent measurement by Bignami and co-workers of the magnetic field of a neutron star for the first time gives a value that differs by about two orders of magnitude from the expected value. The speculation has been that the nuclear matter in the neutron stars exhibits some exotic behaviour. In this note we argue that this exotic behaviour is an anomalous statistics obeyed by the neutrons, and moreover these considerations lead to a value of the magnetic field that agrees with the observation. The same considerations also correctly give the magnetic fields of the earth and Jupiter.

A QCD Generated Mass Spectrum

Using the interquark potential we obtain a formula for the mass spectrum of elementary particles. The simple formula gives the masses of all known elementary particles with an error of about three percent or less. This includes the recently discovered Ds (2317) and 1.5GeV Pentaquark particles.

A Formula for the Mass Spectrum of Baryons and Mesons

A mass formula for all the Baryons and Mesons is proposed. A comparison with the actual masses shows that about 63 % of the errors are less than 1 % while in about 93 % of the cases errors are less than 2 %. In all cases the error is less than 3 % with the lone exception of omega (782) Meson in which case the error is 3.6 %.A rationale for the proposed mass formula is also touched upon.

Ramifications of Non Commutative Spacetime

We review Cantorian and Non Commutative Spacetime, work which has occupied El Naschie in the past several years. These concepts are now the subject of intense research, thanks to Quantum Gravity, Quantum Super String Theory and a few other approaches. It now appears that we are on the verge of a breakthrough in finding solutions to longstanding problems, like the unification of gravitation with other fundamental interactions and the question of the mass spectrum, another recent area of El Naschie's work.

Oscillator Models for the Universe and Dark Energy

We consider two situations that can be modeled by oscillators. First we show that the universe itself is a normal mode of Planck scale oscillators. Next we show that a background Zero Point Field or dark energy can be modeled by electromagnetic oscillators. This in turn leads to an observable "fluctuational" current in a solenoid.

Modelling the Zero Point Field

We construct a model of the Zero Point Field in terms of an infinite collection of oscillators. This has relevance because of the recent identification of Dark energy with such a Zero Point Field.

Fuzzy Space Time, Quantum Geometry and Cosmology

It is argued that a noncommutative geometry of spacetime leads to a reconciliation of electromagnetism and gravitation while providing an underpinning to Weyl's geometry. It also leads to a cosmology consistent with observation. A few other ramifications are also examined.

A Test For Varying G

In this note we consider a variable $G$ cosmology which is consistent with observation and which had successfully predicted an ever expanding accelerating universe. It is shown that the observed shortening of the orbital periods of binary pulsars is also in good agreement with this model.

The New Cosmos

We review the broad status of cosmology and discuss a model of fluctuational cosmology in which the universe is created in a phase transition like phenomenon mimicking inflation, and which further consistently explains latest observations like the ever expanding and accelerating feature.

A Short Range Force

Gravitomagnetic and gravitoelectric forces have been studied for sometime and tests for detecting such forces arising from the earth, are under way. We apply similar considerations at the level of elementary particles in a formulation using General Relativity, and deduce the presence of short range forces. A possible candidate could be the somewhat recently detected but otherwise mysterious short range $B_{(3)}$ force, mediated by massive "photons".

Geometry and Quantum Mechanics

Attempts for a geometrical interpretation of Quantum Theory were made, notably the deBroglie-Bohm formulation. This was further refined by Santamato who invoked Weyl's geometry. However these attempts left a number of unanswered questions. In the present paper we return to these two formulations, in the context of recent studies invoking fuzzy spacetime and noncommutative geometry. We argue that it is now possible to explain the earlier shortcomings. At the same time we get an insight into the geometric origin of the deBroglie wavelength itself as also the Wilson-Sommerfeld Quantization rule.

Non-Commutative Geometry, Spin and Quarks

In this paper we use considerations of non-commutative geometry to deduce a model for QCD interactions. The model also explains within the same theoretical framework hitherto purely phenomenological characteristics of the quarks like their fractional charge, mass, handedness and confinement.

Monopoles and Solitons

In this paper, we argue that the elusive magnetic monopole arises due to the strong magnetic effects arising from the non commutative space time structure at small scales. If this structure is ignored and we work with Minkowski spacetime, then the magnetic effect shows up as a monopole. This would also explain why the monopole has eluded detection even after seventy years. We next consider anaother area in which Solitons can be applied, viz., Bose Einstein condensation.
