Cocktail effect on superconductivity in hexagonal high-entropy alloys

We report the study of the cocktail effect on superconductivity in high-entropy alloys (HEAs),using hexagonal close-packed HEAs as a prototype system. Compared with the compositional averages of the constituent elements, the superconducting transition temperature Tc is enhanced by from a factor of about 2 to over one order of magnitude. This Tc enhancement correlates with the reduction in the Debye temperature, underlining the importance of phonon softening in triggering the cocktail effect. Furthermore, we show that the Tc in these HEAs is governed by the average phonon frequency and electron-phonon coupling strength, the latter of which scales linearly with the inverse HEA molecular weight and is progressively weakened with increasing mixing entropy. Our study paves the way toward quantitative understanding of the superconductivity in HEAs.

Restormer-Plus for Real World Image Deraining: One State-of-the-Art Solution to the GT-RAIN Challenge (CVPR 2023 UG2+ Track 3)

This technical report presents our Restormer-Plus approach, which was submitted to the GT-RAIN Challenge (CVPR 2023 UG$^2$+ Track 3). Details regarding the challenge are available at http://cvpr2023.ug2challenge.org/track3.html. Restormer-Plus outperformed all other submitted solutions in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and ranked 4th in terms of structural similarity (SSIM). It was officially evaluated by the competition organizers as a runner-up solution. It consists of four main modules: the single-image de-raining module (Restormer-X), the median filtering module, the weighted averaging module, and the post-processing module. Restormer-X is applied to each rainy image and built on top of Restormer. The median filtering module is used as a median operator for rainy images associated with each scene. The weighted averaging module combines the median filtering results with those of Restormer-X to alleviate overfitting caused by using only Restormer-X. Finally, the post-processing module is utilized to improve the brightness restoration. These modules make Restormer-Plus one of the state-of-the-art solutions for the GT-RAIN Challenge. Our code can be found at https://github.com/ZJLAB-AMMI/Restormer-Plus.

Llama SLayer 8B: Shallow Layers Hold the Key to Knowledge Injection

As a manner to augment pre-trained large language models (LLM), knowledge injection is critical to develop vertical domain large models and has been widely studied. Although most current approaches, including parameter-efficient fine-tuning (PEFT) and block expansion methods, uniformly apply knowledge across all LLM layers, it raises the question: are all layers equally crucial for knowledge injection? We begin by evaluating the importance of each layer in finding the optimal layer range for knowledge injection. Intuitively, the more important layers should play a more critical role in knowledge injection and deserve a denser injection. We observe performance dips in question-answering benchmarks after the removal or expansion of the shallow layers, and the degradation shrinks as the layer gets deeper, indicating that the shallow layers hold the key to knowledge injection. This insight leads us to propose the S strategy, a post-pretraining strategy of selectively enhancing shallow layers while pruning the less effective deep ones. Based on this strategy, we introduce Llama Slayer-8B and Llama Slayer-8B-Instruct. We experimented on the corpus of code $\&$ math and demonstrated the effectiveness of our strategy. Further experiments across different LLM, Mistral-7B, and a legal corpus confirmed the general applicability of the approach, underscoring its wide-ranging efficacy. SVFAP: Self-supervised Video Facial Affect Perceiver

Video-based facial affect analysis has recently attracted increasing attention owing to its critical role in human-computer interaction. Previous studies mainly focus on developing various deep learning architectures and training them in a fully supervised manner. Although significant progress has been achieved by these supervised methods, the longstanding lack of large-scale high-quality labeled data severely hinders their further improvements. Motivated by the recent success of self-supervised learning in computer vision, this paper introduces a self-supervised approach, termed Self-supervised Video Facial Affect Perceiver (SVFAP), to address the dilemma faced by supervised methods. Specifically, SVFAP leverages masked facial video autoencoding to perform self-supervised pre-training on massive unlabeled facial videos. Considering that large spatiotemporal redundancy exists in facial videos, we propose a novel temporal pyramid and spatial bottleneck Transformer as the encoder of SVFAP, which not only largely reduces computational costs but also achieves excellent performance. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we conduct experiments on nine datasets spanning three downstream tasks, including dynamic facial expression recognition, dimensional emotion recognition, and personality recognition. Comprehensive results demonstrate that SVFAP can learn powerful affect-related representations via large-scale self-supervised pre-training and it significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods on all datasets. Code is available at https://github.com/sunlicai/SVFAP.

CamLoPA: A Hidden Wireless Camera Localization Framework via Signal Propagation Path Analysis

Hidden wireless cameras pose significant privacy threats, necessitating effective detection and localization methods. However, existing solutions often require spacious activity areas, expensive specialized devices, or pre-collected training data, limiting their practical deployment. To address these limitations, we introduce CamLoPA, a training-free wireless camera detection and localization framework that operates with minimal activity space constraints using low-cost commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) devices. CamLoPA can achieve detection and localization in just 45 seconds of user activities with a Raspberry Pi board. During this short period, it analyzes the causal relationship between the wireless traffic and user movement to detect the presence of a snooping camera. Upon detection, CamLoPA employs a novel azimuth location model based on wireless signal propagation path analysis. Specifically, this model leverages the time ratio of user paths crossing the First Fresnel Zone (FFZ) to determine the azimuth angle of the camera. Then CamLoPA refines the localization by identifying the camera's quadrant. We evaluate CamLoPA across various devices and environments, demonstrating that it achieves 95.37% snooping camera detection accuracy and an average localization error of 17.23, under the significantly reduced activity space requirements. Diagnosis and Pathogenic Analysis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Using Fused Brain Connection Graph

We propose a model for diagnosing Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Our approach integrates brain connectivity data from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and functional MRI (fMRI), employing graph neural networks (GNNs) for fused graph classification. To improve diagnostic accuracy, we introduce a loss function that maximizes inter-class and minimizes intra-class margins. We also analyze network node centrality, calculating degree, subgraph, and eigenvector centralities on a bimodal fused brain graph to identify pathological regions linked to ASD. Two non-parametric tests assess the statistical significance of these centralities between ASD patients and healthy controls. Our results reveal consistency between the tests, yet the identified regions differ significantly across centralities, suggesting distinct physiological interpretations. These findings enhance our understanding of ASD's neurobiological basis and offer new directions for clinical diagnosis.

Boolean Product Graph Neural Networks

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have recently achieved significant success, with a key operation involving the aggregation of information from neighboring nodes. Substantial researchers have focused on defining neighbors for aggregation, predominantly based on observed adjacency matrices. However, in many scenarios, the explicitly given graphs contain noise, which can be amplified during the messages-passing process. Therefore, many researchers have turned their attention to latent graph inference, specifically learning a parametric graph. To mitigate fluctuations in latent graph structure learning, this paper proposes a novel Boolean product-based graph residual connection in GNNs to link the latent graph and the original graph. It computes the Boolean product between the latent graph and the original graph at each layer to correct the learning process. The Boolean product between two adjacency matrices is equivalent to triangle detection. Accordingly, the proposed Boolean product graph neural networks can be interpreted as discovering triangular cliques from the original and the latent graph. We validate the proposed method in benchmark datasets and demonstrate its ability to enhance the performance and robustness of GNNs.

Probability Passing for Graph Neural Networks: Graph Structure and Representations Joint Learning

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have achieved notable success in the analysis of non-Euclidean data across a wide range of domains. However, their applicability is constrained by the dependence on the observed graph structure. To solve this problem, Latent Graph Inference (LGI) is proposed to infer a task-specific latent structure by computing similarity or edge probability of node features and then apply a GNN to produce predictions. Even so, existing approaches neglect the noise from node features, which affects generated graph structure and performance. In this work, we introduce a novel method called Probability Passing to refine the generated graph structure by aggregating edge probabilities of neighboring nodes based on observed graph. Furthermore, we continue to utilize the LGI framework, inputting the refined graph structure and node features into GNNs to obtain predictions. We name the proposed scheme as Probability Passing-based Graph Neural Network (PPGNN). Moreover, the anchor-based technique is employed to reduce complexity and improve efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Can vortex quantum droplets be realized experimentally?

The current state of research on vortices carried by quantum droplets (QDs) has predicted their existence, in the stable form, in two- and three-dimensional free-space binary Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) and dipolar BECs. These theoretical results suggest that QDs may be excellent carriers of self-trapped vortex states. Given that the experimental creation of QDs has already been firmly established, the observation of embedded vortices in them becomes a key question for the next phase of the development in the field.

FAST Ultra-Deep Survey (FUDS): Data Release for FUDS0

We have used the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) to make a blind ultra-deep survey for neutral hydrogen (HI). We present the complete results from the first of six fields (FUDS0). This observation of 95 hours allowed us to achieve a high sensitivity ($\sim 50~μ$Jy beam$^{-1}$) and a high frequency resolution (22.9 kHz) over an area of 0.72 deg$^2$. We detected 128 galaxies in HI distributed over the redshift range of $0 0.38$, where no unlensed HI emission has previously been directly detected. Estimates of completeness and reliability are presented for the catalog. Consistency of continuum and HI flux estimates with NVSS and AUDS, respectively, confirms the accuracy of calibration method and data reduction pipeline developed for the full FUDS survey.

AEMLO: AutoEncoder-Guided Multi-Label Oversampling

Class imbalance significantly impacts the performance of multi-label classifiers. Oversampling is one of the most popular approaches, as it augments instances associated with less frequent labels to balance the class distribution. Existing oversampling methods generate feature vectors of synthetic samples through replication or linear interpolation and assign labels through neighborhood information. Linear interpolation typically generates new samples between existing data points, which may result in insufficient diversity of synthesized samples and further lead to the overfitting issue. Deep learning-based methods, such as AutoEncoders, have been proposed to generate more diverse and complex synthetic samples, achieving excellent performance on imbalanced binary or multi-class datasets. In this study, we introduce AEMLO, an AutoEncoder-guided Oversampling technique specifically designed for tackling imbalanced multi-label data. AEMLO is built upon two fundamental components. The first is an encoder-decoder architecture that enables the model to encode input data into a low-dimensional feature space, learn its latent representations, and then reconstruct it back to its original dimension, thus applying to the generation of new data. The second is an objective function tailored to optimize the sampling task for multi-label scenarios. We show that AEMLO outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods with extensive empirical studies.

Phase-dependent bubble hosing and resonant amplification of betatron oscillation in few-cycle laser wakefield accelerator

Betatron oscillation of trapped electrons in laser-driven long-distance propagating plasma bubble has been investigated with the help of particle-in-cell simulations and theoretical analysis. Parametric oscillation of the trapped electron beam is identified as a result of bubble breathing which develops with the steepening and depletion of the laser pulse. It leads to parametric amplification of the betatron oscillation of the electron beam with the exponential growth of its amplitude. It results in severe degradation of the qualities of the electron beam and thus is important for long-scale laser wakefield acceleration.

Convergent trajectories of relativistic electrons interacting with lasers in plasma waves

The dynamics of relativistic electrons interacting with a laser pulse in a plasma wave has been investigated theoretically and numerically based on the classical Landau-Lifshitz equation. There exists a convergent trajectory of electrons when the energy gain of electrons via direct laser acceleration can compensate the energy loss via radiation. An electron beam initially around the convergent trajectory evolves into the trajectory, making its occupied phase space volume decrease exponentially while mean energy remain the same. This mechanism can be used for cooling relativistic electron beams especially those produced in plasma-based acceleration.

Anomalous impurity effect in the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCu2Si2

Recent observations of contradictory impurity effect in the heavy-fermion superconductor CeCu2Si2 at ambient pressure have hindered the identification of its pairing symmetry. Here we perform theoretical analyses with both intraband and interband impurity scatterings for the nodeless $s^\pm$-wave pairing, and report an anomalous nonmonotonic variation of its $T_c$ suppression with the scattering strength. Our results reproduce the prominent reduction of $T_c$ in good agreement with earlier experiments by atomic substitution and explains as well its robustness against electron irradiation. We ascribe the latter to the screening of the interband impurity potential in the strong scattering or unitary region. This resolves the seeming contradiction in different experimental probes and provides an important support to the nodeless $s^\pm$-wave scenario in CeCu2Si2 at ambient pressure. Our theory may be extended to other narrow band systems such as twisted bilayer graphene and the recently discovered bilayer or trilayer nickelate superconductors, and provide a useful way to distinguish different paring candidates thereof.

Can Deception Detection Go Deeper? Dataset, Evaluation, and Benchmark for Deception Reasoning

Deception detection has attracted increasing attention due to its importance in real-world scenarios. Its main goal is to detect deceptive behaviors from multimodal clues such as gestures, facial expressions, prosody, etc. However, these bases are usually subjective and related to personal habits. Therefore, we extend deception detection to deception reasoning, further providing objective evidence to support subjective judgment. Specifically, we provide potential lies and basic facts and then analyze why this sentence may be a lie by combining factual inconsistencies and intent behind them. Compared with deception detection, this task is more applicable to real-world scenarios. For example, in interrogation, the police should judge whether a person is lying based on solid evidence. This paper presents our initial attempts at this task, including constructing a dataset and defining evaluation metrics. Meanwhile, this task can serve as a benchmark for evaluating the complex reasoning capability of large language models. Our code and data are provided in the supplementary material.

Well-posedness and invariant measures for the stochastically perturbed Landau-Lifshitz-Baryakhtar equation

In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem for the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Baryakhtar (SLLBar) equation with Stratonovich-type noise in bounded domains $\mathcal{O}\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d=1,2,3$. Our main results can be briefly described as follows: (1) for $d=1,2,3$ and any $\mathbf{u}_0\in\mathbb{H}^1$, the SLLBar equation admits a unique local-in-time pathwise weak solution; (2) for $d=1$ and small-data $\mathbf{u}_0\in\mathbb{H}^1$, the SLLBar equation has a unique global-in-time pathwise weak solution and at least one invariant measure; (3) for $d=1,2$ and small-data $\mathbf{u}_0\in\mathbb{L}^2$, the SLLBar equation possesses a unique global-in-time pathwise very weak solution and at least one invariant measure, while for $d=3$ only the existence of martingale solution is obtained due to the loss of pathwise uniqueness.

Well-posedness and large deviations of Lévy-driven Marcus stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Baryakhtar equation

This paper considers the stochastic Landau-Lifshitz-Baryakhtar (SLLBar) equation with pure jump noise in Marcus canonical form, which describes the dynamics of magnetic spin field in a ferromagnet at elevated temperatures with the effective field $\mathbf{H}_{\textrm{eff}}$ influenced by external random noise. Under the natural assumption that the magnetic body $\mathcal{O}\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d=1,2,3$) is bounded with smooth boundary, we shall prove that the initial-boundary value problem of SLLBar equation possesses a unique global probabilistically strong and analytically weak solution with initial data in the energy space $\mathbb{H}^1(\mathcal{O})$. Then by employing the weak convergence method, we proceed to establish a Freidlin-Wentzell type large deviation principle for pathwise solutions to the SLLBar equation.

A chemotaxis-fluid model driven by Lévy noise in $\mathbb{R}^2$

In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of global solutions to the Cauchy problem for a coupled stochastic chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes system with multiplicative Lévy noises in $\mathbb{R}^2$. The existence of global martingale solutions is proved under a framework that is based on the Faedo-Galerkin approximation scheme and stochastic compactness method, where the verification of tightness depends crucially on a novel stochastic version of Lyapunov functional inequality and proper compactness criteria in Fréchet spaces. A pathwise uniqueness result is also established with suitable assumption on the jump noises, which indicates that the considered system admits a unique global strong solution.
