On Curvature Tensors of Hermitian Manifolds

In this article, we examine the behavior of the Riemannian and Hermitian curvature tensors of a Hermitian metric, when one of the curvature tensors obeys all the symmetry conditions of the curvature tensor of a Kähler metric. We will call such metrics G-Kähler-like or Kähler-like, for lack of better terminologies. Such metrics are always balanced when the manifold is compact, so in a way they are more special than balanced metrics, which drew a lot of attention in the study of non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds. In particular we derive various formulas on the difference between the Riemannian and Hermitian curvature tensors in terms of the torsion of the Hermitian connection. We believe that these formulas could lead to further applications in the study of Hermitian geometry with curvature assumptions.

Lie Groups with flat Gauduchon connections

We pursuit the research line proposed in \cite{YZ-Gflat} about the classification of Hermitian manifolds whose $s$-Gauduchon connection $\nabla^s =(1-\frac{s}{2})\nabla^c + \frac{s}{2}\nabla^b$ is flat, where $s \in \mathbb{R}$ and $\nabla^c$ and $\nabla^b$ are the Chern and the Bismut connections, respectively. We focus on Lie groups equipped with a left invariant Hermitian structure. Such spaces provide an important class of Hermitian manifolds in various contexts and are often a valuable vehicle for testing new phenomena in complex and Hermitian geometry. More precisely, we consider a connected $2n$-dimensional Lie group $G$ equipped with a left-invariant complex structure $J$ and a left-invariant compatible metric $g$ and we assume that its connection $\nabla^s$ is flat. Our main result states that if either $n$=2 or there exits a $\nabla^s$-parallel left invariant frame on $G$, then $g$ must be Kähler. This result demonstrates rigidity properties of some complete Hermitian manifolds with $\nabla^s$-flat Hermitian metrics.

Distributed Load Shedding for Microgrid with Compensation Support via Wireless Network

Due to the limited generation and finite inertia, microgrid suffers from the large frequency and voltage deviation which can lead to system collapse. Thus, reliable load shedding to keep frequency stable is required. Wireless network, benefiting from the high flexibility and low deployment cost, is considered as a promising technology for fine-grained management. In this paper, for balancing the supply-demand and reducing the load-shedding amount, a distributed load shedding solution via wireless network is proposed. Firstly, active power coordination of different priority loads is formulated as an optimisation problem. To solve it, a distributed load shedding algorithm based on subgradient method (DLSS) is developed for gradually shedding loads. Using this method, power compensation can be utilised and has more time to lower the power deficit so as to reduce the load-shedding amount. Secondly, to increase the response rate and enhance the reliability of our method, a multicast metropolis schedule based on TDMA (MMST) is developed. In this protocol, time slots are dedicatedly allocated and a checking and retransmission mechanism is utilised. Finally, the proposed solution is evaluated by NS3-Matlab co-simulator. The numerical results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our solution.

A Gradient Tree Boosting based Approach to Rumor Detecting on Sina Weibo

Rumor detecting on microblogging platforms such as Sina Weibo is a crucial issue. Most existing rumor detecting algorithms require a lot of propagation data for model training, thus they do not have good detecting accuracy at the early stage after a rumor message is posted. In this paper, we propose to use gradient tree boosting (GTB) approach to rumor detecting, based on which a rumor detecting algorithm is developed. At the same time, the GTB-based approach makes it easy to conduct feature selection, and a feature selection algorithm is developed. Experiments on a widely used dataset of Sina Weibo show that the proposed detecting algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art detecting algorithms; moreover, it has the highest detecting accuracy at the early stage. This work seems to be the first to use GTB-based approach in rumor detecting, and the results suggest that it may be a promising one.

Observational Evidence of Magnetic Reconnection Associated with Magnetic Flux Cancellation

Using high spatial and temporal data from the \emph{Solar Dynamics Observatory} (\emph{SDO}) and the \emph{Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph} (\emph{IRIS}), several observational signatures of magnetic reconnection in the course of magnetic flux cancellation are presented, including two loop-loop interaction processes, multiple plasma blob ejections, and a sheet-like structure that appeared above the flux cancellation sites with a Y-shaped and an inverted Y-shaped ends. The \emph{IRIS} 1400 Å observations show that the plasma blobs were ejected from the tip of the Y-shaped ends of the sheet-like structure. Obvious photospheric magnetic flux cancellation occurred after the first loop-loop interaction and continued until the end of the observation. Complemented by the nonlinear force-free field extrapolation, we found that two sets of magnetic field lines, which reveal an X-shaped configuration, align well with the interacted coronal loops. Moreover, a magnetic null point is found to be situated at about $0.9$ Mm height right above the flux cancellation sites and located between the two sets of magnetic field lines. These results suggest that the flux cancellation might be a result of submergence of magnetic field lines following magnetic reconnection that occurs in the lower atmosphere of the Sun, and the ejected plasma blobs should be plasmoids created in the sheet-like structure due to the tearing-mode instability. This observation reveals detailed magnetic field structure and dynamic process above the flux cancellation sites and will help us to understand magnetic reconnection in the lower atmosphere of the Sun.

The Formation of a Small-scale Filament after Flux Emergence on the Quiet Sun

We present observations of the formation process of a small-scale filament on the quiet Sun during 5-6 February 2016 and investigate its formation cause. Initially, a small dipole emerged and its associated arch filament system was found to reconnect with overlying coronal fields accompanied by numerous EUV bright points. When bright points faded out, many elongated dark threads formed bridging the positive magnetic element of dipole and external negative network fields. Interestingly, an anti-clockwise photospheric rotational motion (PRM) set in within the positive endpoint region of newborn dark threads following the flux emergence and lasted for more than 10 hours. Under the drive of the PRM, these dispersive dark threads gradually aligned along the north-south direction and finally coalesced into an inverse S-shaped filament. Consistent with the dextral chirality of the filament, magnetic helicity calculations show that an amount of negative helicity was persistently injected from the rotational positive magnetic element and accumulated during the formation of the filament. These observations suggest that twisted emerging fields may lead to the formation of the filament via reconnection with pre-existing fields and release of its inner magnetic twist. The persistent PRM might trace a covert twist relaxation from below photosphere to the low corona.

Defo-Net: Learning Body Deformation using Generative Adversarial Networks

Modelling the physical properties of everyday objects is a fundamental prerequisite for autonomous robots. We present a novel generative adversarial network (Defo-Net), able to predict body deformations under external forces from a single RGB-D image. The network is based on an invertible conditional Generative Adversarial Network (IcGAN) and is trained on a collection of different objects of interest generated by a physical finite element model simulator. Defo-Net inherits the generalisation properties of GANs. This means that the network is able to reconstruct the whole 3-D appearance of the object given a single depth view of the object and to generalise to unseen object configurations. Contrary to traditional finite element methods, our approach is fast enough to be used in real-time applications. We apply the network to the problem of safe and fast navigation of mobile robots carrying payloads over different obstacles and floor materials. Experimental results in real scenarios show how a robot equipped with an RGB-D camera can use the network to predict terrain deformations under different payload configurations and use this to avoid unsafe areas.

Assured Data Deletion with Fine-grained Access Control for Fog-based Industrial Applications

The advances of cloud computing, fog computing and Internet of Things (IoT) make the industries more prosperous than ever. A wide range of industrial systems such as transportation systems and manufacturing systems have been developed by integrating cloud computing, fog computing and IoT successfully. Security and privacy issues are a major concern that hinders the wide adoptions of these novel techniques. In this paper, we focus on assured data deletion, an issue which is important but received less attention in academia and industry. We firstly propose a framework to integrate the cloud, the fog and the things together to manage the stored data from industries or individuals. We then focus on secure data deletion in this framework by proposing an assured data deletion scheme which fulfills fine-grained access control over sensitive data and verifiable data deletion. Only the data owners and the fog devices are involved when deleting a data key and validating the data deletion, which makes the protocol practical due to the features of low latency and real-time interaction of fog computing. The proposed protocol takes advantage of attribute-based encryption and is provably secure under the standard model. The theoretical analysis shows the good performance and functionality requirements while the implementation results demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal.

Dynamics of high-order solitons in the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations

A study of high-order solitons in three nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations is presented, which includes the \PT-symmetric, reverse-time, and reverse-space-time nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations. General high-order solitons in three different equations are derived from the same Riemann-Hilbert solutions of the AKNS hierarchy, except for the difference in the corresponding symmetry relations on the "perturbed" scattering data. Dynamics of general high-order solitons in these equations is further analyzed. It is shown that the high-order fundamental-soliton is always moving on several different trajectories in nearly equal velocities, and they can be nonsingular or repeatedly collapsing, depending on the choices of the parameters. It is also shown that high-order multi-solitons could have more complicated wave structures and behave very differently from high-order fundamental solitons. More interesting is the high-order hybrid-pattern solitons, which are derived from combination of different size of block matrix in the Riemann-Hilbert solutions and thus they can describe a nonlinear interaction between several types of solitons.

Composite Behavioral Modeling for Identity Theft Detection in Online Social Networks

In this work, we aim at building a bridge from poor behavioral data to an effective, quick-response, and robust behavior model for online identity theft detection. We concentrate on this issue in online social networks (OSNs) where users usually have composite behavioral records, consisting of multi-dimensional low-quality data, e.g., offline check-ins and online user generated content (UGC). As an insightful result, we find that there is a complementary effect among different dimensions of records for modeling users' behavioral patterns. To deeply exploit such a complementary effect, we propose a joint model to capture both online and offline features of a user's composite behavior. We evaluate the proposed joint model by comparing with some typical models on two real-world datasets: Foursquare and Yelp. In the widely-used setting of theft simulation (simulating thefts via behavioral replacement), the experimental results show that our model outperforms the existing ones, with the AUC values $0.956$ in Foursquare and $0.947$ in Yelp, respectively. Particularly, the recall (True Positive Rate) can reach up to $65.3\%$ in Foursquare and $72.2\%$ in Yelp with the corresponding disturbance rate (False Positive Rate) below $1\%$. It is worth mentioning that these performances can be achieved by examining only one composite behavior (visiting a place and posting a tip online simultaneously) per authentication, which guarantees the low response latency of our method. This study would give the cybersecurity community new insights into whether and how a real-time online identity authentication can be improved via modeling users' composite behavioral patterns.

Non-Invasive Imaging Method of Microwave Near Field Based on Solid State Quantum Sensing

In this paper, we propose a non-invasive imaging method of microwave near field using a diamond containing nitrogen-vacancy centers. We applied synchronous pulsed sequence combined with charge coupled device camera to measure the amplitude of the microwave magnetic field. A full reconstruction formulation of the local field vector, including the amplitude and phase, is developed by measuring both left and right circular polarizations along the four nitrogen-vacancy axes. Compared to the raster scanning approach, the two dimensional imaging method is promising for application to circuit failure analysis. A diamond film with micrometer thinness enables high-resolution near field imaging. The proposed method is expected to have applications in monolithic-microwave-integrated circuit chip local diagnosis, antenna characterization, and field mode imaging of microwave cavities and waveguides.

General rogue waves and their dynamics in several reverse time integrable nonlocal nonlinear equations

A study of general rogue waves in some integrable reverse time nonlocal nonlinear equations is presented. Specifically, the reverse time nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) and nonlocal Davey-Stewartson (DS) equations are investigated, which are nonlocal reductions from the AKNS hierarchy. By using Darboux transformation (DT) method, several types of rogue waves are constructed. Especially, a unified binary DT is found for this nonlocal DS system, thus the solution formulas for nonlocal DSI and DSII equation can be written in an uniform expression. Dynamics of these rogue waves is separately explored. It is shown that the (1+1)-dimensional rogue waves in nonlocal NLS equation can be bounded for both x and t, or develop collapsing singularities. It is also shown that the (1+2)-dimensional line rogue waves in the nonlocal DS equations can be bounded for all space and time, or have finite-time blowing-ups. All these types depend on the values of free parameters introduced in the solution. In addition, the dynamics patterns in the multi- and higher-order rogue waves exhibits more richer structures, most of which have no counterparts in the corresponding local nonlinear equations.

Phase transition and intrinsic metric of the dipolar fermions in quantum Hall regime

For the fast rotating quasi-two-dimensional dipolar fermions in the quantum Hall regime, the interaction between two dipoles breaks the rotational symmetry when the dipole moment has component in the the plane via being tuned by an external field. For the anisotropic two-body interaction, we expand it in a generalized pseudopotentials (PPs). With assuming that all the dipoles are polarized in the same direction, we perform the numerical diagonalization for finite size systems on a torus. We find that the most stable fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states in the lowest Landau level (LLL) and the first Landau level (1LL) are ν = 1/3 and ν = 2 + 1/5 Laughlin state respectively in the isotropic case. While rotating the dipolar angle, these FQH states reveal a robustness and finally enter into a molecule phase in which all the particles are attracted and form a bound state. The anisotropy and the phase transition are studied by the intrinsic metric, the wave function overlap and the nematic order parameter.

Group Sparse Bayesian Learning for Active Surveillance on Epidemic Dynamics

Predicting epidemic dynamics is of great value in understanding and controlling diffusion processes, such as infectious disease spread and information propagation. This task is intractable, especially when surveillance resources are very limited. To address the challenge, we study the problem of active surveillance, i.e., how to identify a small portion of system components as sentinels to effect monitoring, such that the epidemic dynamics of an entire system can be readily predicted from the partial data collected by such sentinels. We propose a novel measure, the gamma value, to identify the sentinels by modeling a sentinel network with row sparsity structure. We design a flexible group sparse Bayesian learning algorithm to mine the sentinel network suitable for handling both linear and non-linear dynamical systems by using the expectation maximization method and variational approximation. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is theoretically analyzed and empirically validated using both synthetic and real-world data.

Anisotropic Pseudopotential Characterization of Quantum Hall Systems under Tilted Magnetic Field

We analytically derived the effective two-body interaction for a finite thickness quantum Hall system with a harmonic perpendicular confinement and an in-plane magnetic field. The anisotropic effective interaction in the lowest Landau level (LLL) and first Landau level (1LL) are expanded in the basis of the generalized pseudopotentials (PPs), and we analyze how the coefficients of some prominent isotropic and anisotropic PPs depend on the thickness of the sample and the strength of the in-plane magnetic field. We also investigate the stability of the topological quantum Hall states, especially the Laughlin state and its emergent guiding center metric, which we can now compute analytically. An interesting reorientation of the anisotropy direction of the Laughlin state in the 1LL is revealed, and we also discuss various possible experimental ramifications for this quantum Hall system with broken rotational symmetry.

General rogue waves in the nonlocal PT-symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger equation

Rogue waves in the nonlocal PT-symmetric nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation are studied by Darboux transformation. Three types of rogue waves are derived, and their explicit expressions in terms of Schur polynomials are presented. These rogue waves show a much wider variety than those in the local NLS equation. For instance, the polynomial degrees of their denominators can be not only $n(n+1)$, but also $n(n-1)+1$ and $n^2$, where $n$ is an arbitrary positive integer. Dynamics of these rogue waves is also examined. It is shown that these rogue waves can be bounded for all space and time, or develop collapsing singularities, depending on their types as well as values of their free parameters. In addition, the solution dynamics exhibits rich patterns, most of which have no counterparts in the local NLS equation.

Dynamics of Rogue Waves in the Partially PT-symmetric Nonlocal Davey-Stewartson Systems

In this work, we study the dynamics of rogue waves in the partially $\cal{PT}$-symmetric nonlocal Davey-Stewartson(DS) systems. Using the Darboux transformation method, general rogue waves in the partially $\cal{PT}$-symmetric nonlocal DS equations are derived. For the partially $\cal{PT}$-symmetric nonlocal DS-I equation, the solutions are obtained and expressed in term of determinants. For the partially $\cal{PT}$-symmetric DS-II equation, the solutions are represented as quasi-Gram determinants. It is shown that the fundamental rogue waves in these two systems are rational solutions which arises from a constant background at $t\rightarrow -\infty$, and develops finite-time singularity on an entire hyperbola in the spatial plane at the critical time. It is also shown that the interaction of several fundamental rogue waves is described by the multi rogue waves. And the interaction of fundamental rogue waves with dark and anti-dark rational travelling waves generates the novel hybrid-pattern waves. However, no high-order rogue waves are found in this partially $\cal{PT}$-symmetric nonlocal DS systems. Instead, it can produce some high-order travelling waves from the high-order rational solutions.

Hybrid Optimization Method for Reconfiguration of AC/DC Microgrids in All-Electric Ships

Since the limited power capacity, finite inertia, and dynamic loads make the shipboard power system (SPS) vulnerable, the automatic reconfiguration for failure recovery in SPS is an extremely significant but still challenging problem. It is not only required to operate accurately and optimally, but also to satisfy operating constraints. In this paper, we consider the reconfiguration optimization for hybrid AC/DC microgrids in all-electric ships. Firstly, the multi-zone medium voltage DC (MVDC) SPS model is presented. In this model, the DC power flow for reconfiguration and a generalized AC/DC converter are modeled for accurate reconfiguration. Secondly, since this problem is mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP), a hybrid method based on Newton Raphson and Biogeography based Optimization (NRBBO) is designed according to the characteristics of system, loads, and faults. This method facilitates to maximize the weighted load restoration while satisfying operating constraints. Finally, the simulation results demonstrate this method has advantages in terms of power restoration and convergence speed.
