StepAudio 3 Gen Technical Report

We introduce StepAudio 3 Gen, a general-purpose audio generation model that supports zero-shot text-to-speech (TTS), voice design, vocal generation, sound effects, music, vibe speech, and mixtures of multiple audio types within a unified framework. At its core, StepAudio 3 Gen is a discrete autoregressive generator that models audio directly over residual vector quantization (RVQ) tokens, departing from the diffusion Transformer-based continuous generation paradigm prevalent in recent general audio models. Its StepAudio Tokenizer represents general audio at 12.5 Hz in a shared $16 \times 2048$ residual code space, jointly quantizing semantic and waveform-level acoustic features so that each code layer preserves both types of information. For generation, the backbone predicts the first codebook along the time axis using autoregressive modeling, while a lightweight causal Transformer completes the remaining fifteen codebooks along the codebook axis. Our study further identifies three key design principles: (1) interference-aware progressive pretraining for acquiring audio capabilities while preserving the textual abilities of the large language model, (2) RVQ Adaptor for effectively incorporating multi-codebook acoustic representations, and (3) discrete autoregressive modeling over a shared representation across general audio domains. With progressive pretraining, multi-task instruction training, and supervised fine-tuning, StepAudio 3 Gen achieves state-of-the-art performance on both TTS and voice design, while retaining strong generation capabilities across speech, vocals, sound effects, and music. Modeling and Resource Optimization for Quantum Oracles

Quantum oracles are fundamental building blocks of many quantum algorithms, and their resource consumption directly affects performance, yet structured description and complexity analysis for their composition are still lacking. In this paper, we introduce the Framework for Oracle Recursion Modeling (FORM), a unified formal abstraction of multi-function composition in quantum oracles: it provides a structured description of the composition layer, makes its gate complexity exactly computable, and turns oracle design into an optimizable tree-construction problem. Based on this model, we propose the ShallowGrow algorithm, which constructs an oracle structure under a given ancilla budget and provably minimizes the number of function evaluations. On Boolean quadratic equation systems, ShallowGrow reduces Qiskit-measured circuit depth by 54.1% on average relative to the state-of-the-art W-cycle construction, with consistent reductions on the EPFL and ISCAS85 combinational logic networks under scarce ancilla budgets. Furthermore, pebbling-based syntheses trade space against time within the logic network of a function; ShallowGrow extends this trade-off across functions, and integrated with their published circuits it reduces the ancillary qubits of a complete oracle from one per constraint function to logarithmically many. With half as many ancillas as constraint functions, the T-count falls by a factor of 7.9 to 32 relative to the W-cycle-based construction.

Manifold-Constrained PET Reconstruction with Learned Flow-Matching Priors

Image reconstruction for positron emission tomography (PET) is an ill-posed Poisson inverse problem that often suffers from severe noise amplification and artifacts. In this work, we introduce an unsupervised, optimization-based reconstruction framework that employs a flow-matching generative model as a learned manifold prior. We train the flow-matching model on high-quality PET images to learn a deterministic ordinary differential equation transport from a Gaussian latent distribution to the empirical PET image distribution, yielding a differentiable generator of anatomically plausible images. We incorporate this generator as an explicit manifold constraint into a regularized Poisson likelihood formulation. We solve the resulting optimization problem using an alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm, in which an expectation-maximization-type surrogate update enforces data consistency and a gradient-based latent-space projection enforces manifold proximity. We evaluate the proposed method on both simulated and real PET datasets, assessing dose-level robustness, lesion-insertion generalization, and cross-scanner transfer. Compared with conventional reconstruction methods and state-of-the-art deep learning baselines, the proposed method provides superior noise suppression, structural preservation, and quantitative accuracy, while maintaining high computational efficiency.

Enhanced energy extraction via magnetic reconnection in Kerr-AdS spacetime

In this paper, we study the energy extraction from Kerr-AdS black holes following the magnetic reconnection process. The parameter space regions that satisfy the energy extraction condition, as well as the efficiency and power of the extracted energy, are analyzed. The study shows that the presence of a negative cosmological constant extends the range of dominant reconnection radial locations where the energy extraction condition is met, and enables energy extraction even from black holes with relatively low spin. Furthermore, the influence of the negative cosmological constant on energy extraction is modulated by the extent of the dominant reconnection radial region: a more negative cosmological constant enhances the extracted energy, efficiency, and power, particularly for smaller dominant reconnection radii. These results demonstrate that the energy extraction from Kerr-AdS black holes is more favorable than that from their asymptotically flat counterparts. Our results highlight the crucial role of the cosmological constant in energy extraction via magnetic reconnection.

CardiacMamba: Fair and Robust RGB-RF Fusion for Remote Heart Rate Estimation via State Space Modeling

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) enables non-contact heart rate (HR) monitoring from facial videos, but RGB-only methods are vulnerable to illumination changes, motion artifacts, and skin-tone-dependent optical reflectance. We propose CardiacMamba, a fair and robust RGB-RF fusion framework that integrates optical facial cues and radio-frequency cardiac motion cues through state space modeling. CardiacMamba introduces a Temporal Difference Mamba Module (TDMM) to enhance subtle RF temporal variations, a bidirectional SSM-based interaction mechanism to align heterogeneous RGB-RF dynamics, and a Channel-wise Fast Fourier Transform (CFFT) module for channel-domain spectral refinement. On the EquiPleth dataset, CardiacMamba achieves state-of-the-art performance with 0.96 bpm MAE, 3.06 bpm RMSE, and 0.97 Pearson correlation, while reducing the observed light-dark skin-tone MAE gap to 0.26 bpm and maintaining robustness under RGB degradation and RF-missing conditions

Alpha Particle Induced Collision Cascade Fusion

We report experimental and computational investigations of a collision-cascade mechanism to induce deuterium-deuterium (D-D) fusion. Evidence of neutron production was observed from a pressurized deuterium target exposed to energetic alpha particles emitted by a $^{210}\text{Po}$ source. A 5-mCi $^{210}\text{Po}$ alpha source was placed within a chamber containing pressurized deuterium gas, and neutron emission was monitored for 18 h using two Mirion SN-S $^{3}\text{He}$ neutron detectors. Alpha particles incident on pressurized deuterium gas produced an average excess of $\sim$74 neutrons after background subtraction, corresponding to a fusion neutron rate of $\sim$2.24 n/s. With LiD in the pressurized deuterium, the average excess increased to 268 neutrons, corresponding to 8.1 n/s. Since D-D fusion branches into two equally likely pathways, these correspond to a fusion rate near 4.5 and 16.2 fusions per second, respectively. MCNP simulations incorporating experimental geometry, source activity, and detector configuration predicted neutron yields within 5.4% of the measured values and reproduced the detector response within experimental uncertainty. The tight agreement between measured and simulated neutron counts suggests that energetic alpha-particle interactions within the deuterium may contribute to measurable D-D fusion reactions through the D(d,n)$^{3}\text{He}$ channel.

Emergence of Hierarchical Emotion Organization in Large Language Models

As large language models (LLMs) increasingly power conversational agents, understanding how they model users' emotional states is critical for ethical deployment. Inspired by emotion wheels, i.e., a psychological framework that argues emotions organize hierarchically, we analyze probabilistic dependencies between emotional states in model outputs. We find that LLMs naturally form hierarchical emotion trees that align with human psychological models, and larger models develop more complex hierarchies. We also uncover systematic biases in emotion recognition across socioeconomic personas, with compounding misclassifications for intersectional, underrepresented groups. Human studies reveal striking parallels, suggesting that LLMs internalize aspects of social perception. Beyond highlighting emergent emotional reasoning in LLMs, our results hint at the potential of using cognitively-grounded theories for developing better model evaluations.

AffectAgent: Collaborative Multi-Agent Reasoning for Retrieval-Augmented Multimodal Emotion Recognition

LLM-based multimodal emotion recognition relies on static parametric memory and often hallucinates when interpreting nuanced affective states. In this paper, given that single-round retrieval-augmented generation is highly susceptible to modal ambiguity and therefore struggles to capture complex affective dependencies across modalities, we introduce AffectAgent, an affect-oriented multi-agent retrieval-augmented generation framework that leverages collaborative decision-making among agents for fine-grained affective understanding. Specifically, AffectAgent comprises three jointly optimized specialized agents, namely a query planner, an evidence filter, and an emotion generator, which collaboratively perform analytical reasoning to retrieve cross-modal samples, assess evidence, and generate predictions. These agents are optimized end-to-end using Multi-Agent Proximal Policy Optimization (MAPPO) with a shared affective reward to ensure consistent emotion understanding. Furthermore, we introduce Modality-Balancing Mixture of Experts (MB-MoE) and Retrieval-Augmented Adaptive Fusion (RAAF), where MB-MoE dynamically regulates the contributions of different modalities to mitigate representation mismatch caused by cross-modal heterogeneity, while RAAF enhances semantic completion under missing-modality conditions by incorporating retrieved audiovisual embeddings. Extensive experiments on MER-UniBench demonstrate that AffectAgent achieves superior performance across complex scenarios. Our code will be released at: https://github.com/Wz1h1NG/AffectAgent.

ParaASR: Multi-Token Prediction for Fast and Long-Context LLM-Based Speech Recognition

Audio-encoder-LLM-decoder architectures have become the dominant paradigm for modern automatic speech recognition (ASR), improving transcription quality through large-scale language modeling. However, the cost of autoregressive decoding scales with decoder size, creating a fundamental trade-off between recognition quality and serving latency. We argue this trade-off is not inherent: unlike open-ended text generation, ASR outputs are strongly anchored to the input speech signal, providing a natural inductive bias toward high-parallelism decoding. Building on this, we introduce ParaASR, an ASR system that leverages Multi-Token Prediction (MTP) to let a 4B LLM decoder emit multiple tokens per forward step. Starting from a publicly available audio-language foundation, the model first establishes a robust autoregressive recognizer and then aligns five future-token branches through a staged optimization recipe. At inference, it proposes a six-token continuation per step and admits only the verified prefix into the transcript, preserving the safety of standard autoregressive decoding. The average accepted length reaches 5.0 out of 6 proposed tokens, confirming that the deterministic structure of speech makes ASR an especially natural setting for multi-token decoding. ParaASR further retains a native 32K-context window and transcribes up to 30 minutes of audio in a single pass. Across diverse benchmarks, it attains average error rates of 2.97%, 3.68%, and 3.70% on Chinese, English, and long-form evaluations, respectively, while reaching a real-time factor (RTF) as low as 0.0053. These results show that decoder scaling, low-latency inference, and long-context transcription need not be competing goals when future-token proposals are anchored by the acoustic signal and guarded by autoregressive verification.

PhysAgent: A Multi-Agent Framework for Reliable Remote Heart Rate Estimation

Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) enables non-contact heart-rate estimation from facial videos, but its weak physiological signal is easily corrupted by motion, illumination changes, occlusion, skin-appearance variation, and device noise. Existing rPPG methods typically rely on a single model to directly predict heart rate or recover pulse waveforms, while different strong estimators may produce conflicting yet individually plausible candidates for the same video. To resolve these conflicts, we propose PhysAgent, an inference-time multi-agent candidate-verification framework. Unlike direct prediction approaches, PhysAgent neither trains a new base rPPG model nor asks Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) to output heart rate directly. In contrast, it treats outputs from multiple base estimators as physiological hypotheses to be verified and uses a lightweight 4B MLLM, Qwen3-VL-4B, to drive multi-agent reasoning over video conditions, signal reliability, and candidate disagreement. A deterministic physiological verifier checks the fusion proposal, and a reproducible numerical fusion process produces the final heart rate. Experimental results on multiple public rPPG benchmarks show that PhysAgent improves fusion stability and reliability across different datasets and source-domain settings, while avoiding the irreproducibility and physiological inconsistency of direct MLLM prediction or unconstrained ensemble fusion. The code will be released soon.

Antichiral hinge states in a higher-order photonic nodal ring semimetal

Antichiral states propagate in the same direction on opposite boundaries, defying the conventional constraint that boundary modes must cancel net chirality. Previously found antichiral states have been limited to first-order topological semimetals. However, antichiral hinge states, the antichiral counterpart of recently discovered higher-order chiral hinge states, remain elusive. Here, we report the observation of antichiral hinge states in a higher-order nodal-ring semimetal made of a three-dimensional gyromagnetic photonic crystal. Near-field scanning measurements reveal a pair of hinge states at two parallel one-dimensional boundaries propagating unidirectionally along the same direction, with robust transport against metallic scatterers. Their spatial positions can be reconfigured by adding or removing photonic layers. The additionally observed antichiral and drumhead surface states manifest a hierarchy of first- and second-order topological boundary states within a single photonic system. Our work extends antichiral states to higher-order topological semimetals and has potential applications in robust and reconfigurable photonic routing.

Compared to prior approaches, we have made the following new contributions: 1) our solution spans the entire multi-stage funnel and generalizes well for both search and recommendation surfaces, 2) our solution reduces bias favoring existing content, allowing more accurate model prediction across content types and reducing short-term tradeoffs associated with high volumes of explicit content exploration, 3) our solution is evaluated with a scalable measurement framework that enables fast short-term experimentation while validating long-term impact. We have iteratively built and successfully deployed this new system at Pinterest in the past two years and observed significant improvements in fresh content exploration, overall user engagement, and content ecosystem health.

PCA: Persistence-Aware Compression and Aggregation for Fast Video Large Language Models

Despite advances in Video Large Language Models (VLLMs) that have displayed promising outcomes in video understanding, the redundancy in the long-duration frames remains a hindrance to efficient reasoning. This paper introduces a training-free $\mathbf{P}$ersistence-Aware $\mathbf{C}$ompression and $\mathbf{A}$ggregation (PCA) method designed to preserve high-fidelity raw visual information before the encoding stage. PCA can be built on arbitrary VLLMs and consists of two modules: 1) A Dynamic Downsampling (DD) module that adaptively removes redundant frames by analyzing frame-wise similarity. 2) A Persistence-Aware Motion Enhancement (PAME) module that enriches each selected keyframe by aggregating the temporal context of its neighbors, ensuring that essential information is preserved even after aggressive frame reduction. Our approach substantially reduces the computation of long-context modeling, while enhancing the performance of the baseline model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that PCA consistently outperforms existing state-of-the-art approaches in both efficiency and accuracy, achieving a speedup of 1.8$\times$ to 2.5$\times$ compared to the baseline VLLM. The code is open-sourced at https://github.com/Heisenberg10110/PCA.

MIS-HCC: Hierarchical Channel Clustering for Efficient Medical Image Segmentation

Medical image segmentation models require both high accuracy and lightweight design to accommodate real-world medical applications. The deployment of these models on resource-limited medical platforms remains a significant challenge due to their high computational and parameter requirements. Existing pruning methods for model compression mostly overlook the intrinsic connections and similarity between the internal structures of complex deep neural networks. As a result, compressed models may not effectively retain the basic features of the pretrained network. To solve this problem, we propose a hierarchical clustering compression method for medical image segmentation models (MIS-HCC). This approach employs hierarchical clustering to partition channels and fuse their parameters efficiently. Specifically, it leverages the Wasserstein distance to represent similarity of channels within layers of pre-trained network, forming a similarity matrix that guides the clustering process. Channels within each cluster are then fused to produce a compressed network. Experimental results on three medical image datasets application demonstrate that MIS-HCC outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in both accuracy and compression efficiency, offering an effective solution for deploying medical image segmentation models on resource-limited medical platforms.

Tunable Nonlocal $ZZ$ Interaction for Remote Controlled-Z Gates Between Distributed Fixed-Frequency Qubits

Scaling superconducting quantum processors toward fault-tolerant operation will likely require architectures that extend beyond monolithic chips. Modular processors connected by low-loss superconducting links provide a promising route, but implementing entangling gates between remote fixed-frequency qubits remains challenging. Here we propose a distributed architecture in which two synchronously controlled double-transmon couplers mediate the interaction between fixed-frequency transmons in separate packages connected by a 25-cm coaxial cable. The scheme activates a tunable nonlocal $ZZ$ interaction on demand while suppressing residual static coupling, allowing the superconducting link to function as a gate-native interconnect rather than solely as a state-transfer channel. Circuit-level simulations show an on/off ratio exceeding $10^6$ and a remote controlled-Z gate with a projected coherent fidelity of $99.99\%$ under experimentally relevant parameters. Open-system simulations further indicate that, within the representative Markovian noise model considered here, endpoint-qubit decoherence is the largest contribution to gate infidelity, while photon loss in the retained cable modes remains smaller but non-negligible. These results identify DTC-mediated tunable nonlocal coupling as a promising gate primitive for modular superconducting processors based on fixed-frequency qubits.

Strain-Tunable Shift Current and Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect in Multiferroic Altermagnet Fe2Mo3O8

Altermagnetism has recently emerged as a compelling frontier in spintronics, seamlessly merging the agile tunability of ferromagnets with the hallmark merits of antiferromagnets. As a prototypical polar multiferroic featuring distinctive altermagnetism, Fe2Mo3O8 hosts an ideal playground for exploring the intricate interplay among ferroelectric polarization, altermagnetic order, and spin-dependent responses. Here, employing first-principles calculations, we systematically investigate the coupling among polarization, spin splitting, shift current, and magneto-optical responses in Fe2Mo3O8. Our findings reveal that switching the ferroelectric polarization not only inverts the sign of the shift current but also comprehensively reshapes the momentum-space spin-splitting texture. Furthermore, the shift current and magneto-optical spectrum exhibits strong tunability under mechanical strain. Remarkably, the application of a-axis uniaxial strain breaks the crystalline symmetry, thereby activating a finite magneto-optical Kerr effect that is otherwise forbidden in the pristine phase.

Preparation of quasi-two-dimensional Bose mixture of ultracold $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb atoms

Quantum gases confined in reduced dimensions have enabled the observation of many exotic quantum phenomena. While existing experiments primarily focus on homonuclear systems, we report here on the efficient preparation of a quasi-two-dimensional (2D) heteronuclear quantum degenerate mixture of ultracold $^{23}$Na and $^{87}$Rb. We describe the design of the vacuum system and detail the experimental procedures for preparing the 2D quantum mixture. The designed apparatus has several unique features, including compact and modular 2D-MOT sources, a science chamber that accommodates various lattice geometries, a precision in-vacuum electrode assembly, and high-resolution imaging for both atomic species. After loading the dual-species condensate into a single layer of a vertical optical lattice, we prepare a 2D gas mixture and observe quantum immiscibility in the in-situ equilibrium density profiles. The observed density profiles agree well with mean-field theories. The apparatus provides a versatile platform for investigating several interesting problems, including quantum impurities, quantum droplets, or polar molecules in low dimensions.

PBSD: Privileged Bayesian Self-Distillation for Long-Horizon Credit Assignment

Long-horizon agentic tasks pose a fundamental credit assignment challenge for outcome-base reinforcement learning: trajectory-level rewards verify final correctness but provide limited guidance on which intermediate reasoning steps or tool interactions contribute to the outcome. The difficulty is especially pronounced in multi-turn search agents, where successful trajectories may contain misleading actions and failed trajectories may contain valuable evidence-gathering steps. We propose PBSD (Privileged Bayesian Self-Distillation), a Bayes-calibrated self-distillation method for fine-grained credit assignment under sparse final rewards. PBSD measures trajectory quality through the posterior-to-prior probability ratio of the verified answer and applies Bayes' rule to convert this hard-to-estimate answer-side ratio into a tractable likelihood ratio between a standard student model and a privileged answer-conditioned teacher model. Autoregressive decomposition of this Bayesian evidence score yields turn-level signals that identify whether each intermediate turn supports or undermines the verified outcome. Consequently, PBSD provides a principled and elegant reweighting scheme that transforms sparse outcome supervision into Bayes-calibrated turn-level credit signals, while remaining fully compatible with standard policy optimization. Experiments demonstrate that PBSD consistently enhances performance across both in-domain and out-of-domain settings, and effectively transfers knowledge from short-context training to long-context inference, suggesting that its fine-grained credit assignment mechanism facilitates more effective policy learning and yields improved generalization.
