Asymmetric binary Bose mixtures: a Functional Renormalisation Group study

Zero-temperature binary Bose mixtures with mass and intraspecies couplings imbalances are studied using the functional renormalisation group (FRG) framework. We find that this dual asymmetry induces a spontaneous redistribution of quantum fluctuations between the components. This effect leads to a significant divergence in the quasiparticle residues of the two species, a phenomenon not captured in mean-field treatments. Critically, our FRG analysis predicts a systematic reduction of the density-channel sound velocity with increasing asymmetry -- a result that qualitatively contradicts the behaviour predicted by standard Bogoliubov theory. The ratio of the renormalisation factors is proposed as a robust quantitative probe of many-body correlations and fluctuation transfer. These findings provide a consistent non-perturbative framework for interpreting future experiments on heterogeneous mixtures.

Proton fraction in neutron star matter: Dynamical mean-field approach

Dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) is used to study neutron matter, both with and without admixture of the proton fraction. The system is approximated by the lattice Habbard model. The corresponding equation of state as a function of temperature/density/asymmetry is investigated. The results are compared with the standard mean field (MF) approach where the effect of local correlations is neglected. Whereas the influence of the correlations on the properties of a pure neutron matter is found to be moderate, it becomes strong when the proton admixture is taken into account. In particular, we calculate the proton fraction, energy density and pressure in outer core of neutron stars, taking into account the beta equilibrium condition. The DMFT predicts that the proton fraction is several times the MF based calculations, whereas the DMFT results for energy density and pressure are 30-40\% lower then the corresponding MF estimates. Physical implications of our findings for a neutron star dynamics are discussed.

Naive versus mirror assignment at finite density: correlator mixing and chiral symmetry restoration

Chiral symmetry imposes some constrains on hadron correlation functions in dense medium. These constraints imply a certain general structure of the two- and three-point correlation functions of chiral partners and lead to the effect of mixing arising from the interaction of the long-ranged nuclear pions with corresponding interpolating currents. It reflects the phenomena of partial restoration of chiral symmetry. We consider soft pion corrections for quark condensates and several possible pairs of chiral partners for both mesons and nucleons and analyse their mixing patterns. We explored both naive and mirror assignments for the chiral partner of nucleon and discussed possible phenomenological consequence.

Renormalisation Group Flow and Kaon Condensation

Functional renormalisation group approach is applied to a system of kaons with finite chemical potential. A set of approximate flow equations for the effective couplings is derived and solved. At high scale the system is found to be at the normal phase whereas at some critical value of the running scale it undergoes the phase transition (PT) to the phase with a spontaneously broken symmetry with the kaon condensate as an order parameter. The value of the condensate turns out to be quite sensitive to the kaon-kaon scattering length.

Functional RG for imbalanced many-fermion systems

The Functional Renormalisation Group approach is applied the imbalanced many-fermion systems. The system is found to exhibit the first order phase transition from the superfluid to normal phase when the density (chemical potential) mismatch becomes larger then some critical values. The perspectives of using fermionic cold atoms to study nuclear/quark matter is briefly discussed.

Pairing in Asymmetric Many-Fermion Systems: Functional Renormalisation Group Approach

Functional renormalisation group approach is applied to a imbalanced many- fermion system with a short-range attractive force. Composite boson field is introduced to describe the pairing between different flavour fermions. A set of approximate flow equations for the effective couplings is derived and solved. We identify the critical values of mass and particle number density mismatch when the system undergoes a phase transition to a normal state and determine the phase diagram both at unitary regime and nearby.

Functional renormalisation group for few-nucleon systems: SU(4) symmetry and its breaking

We apply the functional renormalisation group to few-nucleon systems. Our starting point is a local effective action that includes three- and four-nucleon interactions, expressed in terms of nucleon and two-nucleon boson fields. The evolution of the coupling constants in this action is described by a renormalisation group flow. We derive these flow equations both in the limit of exact Wigner SU(4) symmetry and in the realistic case of broken symmetry. In the symmetric limit we find that the renormalisation flow equations decouple, and can be combined into two sets, one of which matches the known results for bosons, and the other result matches the one for fermions with spin degrees only. The equations show universal features in the unitary limit, which is obtained when the two-body scattering length tends to infinity. We calculate the spin-quartet neutron-deuteron scattering length and the deuteron-deuteron scattering lengths in the spin-singlet and quintet channels.

Convergence of a renormalization group approach to dimer-dimer scattering

We study the convergence of a functional renormalisation group technique by looking at the ratio between the fermion-fermion scattering length and the dimer-dimer scattering length for a system of nonrelativistic fermions. We find that in a systematic expansion in powers of the fields there is a rapid convergence of the result that agrees with know exact results.

Renormalization group, dimer-dimer scattering, and three-body forces

We study the ratio between the fermion-fermion scattering length and the dimer-dimer scattering length for systems of nonrelativistic fermions, using the same functional renormalisation technique as previously applied to fermionic matter. We find a strong dependence on the cutoff function used in the renormalisation flow for a two-body truncation of the action. Adding a simple three-body term substantially reduces this dependence.

Exact renormalisation group flow for ultracold Fermi gases in unitary limit

We study the exact renormalisation group flow for ultracold Fermi-gases in unitary regime. We introduce a pairing field to describe the formation of the Cooper pairs, and take a simple ansatz for the effective action. Set of approximate flow equations for the effective couplings including boson and fermionic fluctuations is derived. At some value of the running scale, the system undergoes a phase transition to a gapped phase. The values of the energy density, chemical potential, pairing gap and the corresponding proportionality constants relating the interacting and non-interacting Fermi gases are calculated. Standard mean field results are recovered if we omit the boson loops.

Effective field theory and cold Fermi gases near unitary limit

We study a dynamics of ultracold Fermi-gases near the unitary limit in the framework of Effective Field Theory. It is shown that, while one can obtain a reasonable description of the universal proportionality constant both in the narrow and the broad Feshbach resonance limits, the reguirement of the reparametrisation invariance leads to appearance of the three body forces needed to cancel the otherwise arising off-shell uncertainties. The size of the unsertainties is estimated.

Superfluidity in many fermion systems: Exact renormalisation group treatment

The application of the exact renormalisation group to symmetric as well as asymmetric many-fermion systems with a short-range attractive force is studied. Assuming an ansatz for the effective action with effective bosons, describing pairing effects a set of approximate flow equations for the effective coupling including boson and fermionic fluctuations has been derived. The phase transition to a phase with broken symmetry is found at a critical value of the running scale. The mean-field results are recovered if boson-loop effects are omitted. The calculations with two different forms of the regulator are shown to lead to a similar results. We find that, being quite small in the case of the symmetric many-fermion system the corrections to mean field approximation becomes more important with increasing mass asymmetry.

Cold asymmetrical fermion superfluids in nonperturbative renormalisation group

The application of the nonperturbative renormalisation group approach to a system with two fermion species is studied. Assuming a simple ansatz for the effective action with effective bosons, describing pairing effects we derive a set of approximate flow equations for the effective coupling including boson and fermionic fluctuations. The case of two fermions with different masses but coinciding Fermi surfaces is considered. The phase transition to a phase with broken symmetry is found at a critical value of the running scale. The large mass difference is found to disfavour the formation of pairs. The mean-field results are recovered if the effects of boson loops are omitted. While the boson fluctuation effects were found to be negligible for large values of $p_{F} a$ they become increasingly important with decreasing $p_{F} a$ thus making the mean field description less accurate.

Pairing in Many-Fermion Systems: An Exact Renormalisation Group Treatment

We study the application of the exact renormalisation group to a many-fermion system with a short-range attractive force. We introduce a boson field to describe pairing effects, and take a simple ansatz for the effective action. We derive a set of approximate flow equations for the effective coupling including boson and fermionic fluctuations. The initial conditions are obtained by renormalising the interaction to fit the scattering length in vacuum. At some critical value of the running scale, the numerical solutions show a phase transition to a gapped phase. Standard results are recovered if we omit the boson loops. When boson fluctuations are included, we find that their contributions are significant only in the small-gap regime.

Off-shell effects and consistency of many-body treatments of dense matter

Effective field theory requires all observables to be independent of the representation used for the quantum field operators. It means that off-shell properties of the interactions should not lead to any observable effects. We analyse this issue in the context of many-body approaches to nuclear matter, where it should be possible to shift the contributions of lowest order in purely off-shell two-body interactions into three-body forces. We show that none of the commonly used truncations of the two-body scattering amplitude such as the ladder, Brueckner-Hartree-Fock or parquet approximations respect this requirement.

Reply to Comment on ``Determination of pion-baryon coupling constants from QCD sum rules''

In response to Kim's comment (nucl-th/9903040) on the sum rules for pion-baryon coupling constants obtained in hep-ph/9512259 and hep-ph/9606471, we point out that our treatment of the continuum is consistent with duality and with the fact that the correlator in the presence of an external meson or field should be represented by a double dispersion relation.

Chiral symmetry and properties of hadron correlators in matter

The constraints imposed by chiral symmetry on hadron correlation functions in nuclear medium are discussed. It is shown that these constraints implies the certain structure of the in-medium hadron correlators and lead to the cancellation of the order $ρm_π$ term in the in-medium nucleon correlator. We also consider the effect of mixing of the chiral partners correlaton functions arising from the interaction of nuclear pions with corresponding interpolating currents. It reflects the phenomena of partial restoration of chiral symmetry. The different scenarios of such restoration are briefly discussed.
