Tetramodules over a bialgebra form a 2-fold monoidal category

This preprint contains a part of the results of our earlier preprint arXiv:0907.3335v2 presented in a form suitable for journal publication. It covers a construction of a 2-fold monoidal structure on the category of tetramodules, with all necessary definitions, and an overview of the results of R.Taillefer [Tai1,2] on tetramodules and the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology [GS] (formerly served as Appendix in arXiv:0907.3335v2), as well as a computation of the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology for the free commutative cocommutative bialgebra S(V), for a V is a vector space.

A bialgebra axiom and the Dold-Kan correspondence

We introduce a bialgebra axiom for a pair $(c,\ell)$ of a colax-monoidal and a lax-monoidal structures on a functor $F\colon \mathscr{M}_1\to \mathscr{M}_2$ between two (strict) symmetric monoidal categories. This axiom can be regarded as a weakening of the property of $F$ to be a strict symmetric monoidal functor. We show that this axiom transforms well when passing to the adjoint functor or to the categories of monoids. Rather unexpectedly, this axiom holds for the Alexander-Whitney colax-monoidal and the Eilenberg-MacLane lax-monoidal structures on the normalized chain complex functor in the Dold-Kan correspondence. This fact, proven in Section 2, opens up a way for many applications, which we will consider in our sequel paper(s).

Hopf algebras, tetramodules, and n-fold monoidal categories

The abelian category of tetramodules over an associative bialgebra $A$ is related with the Gerstenhaber-Schack (GS) cohomology as $Ext_\Tetra(A,A)=H_\GS(A)$. We construct a 2-fold monoidal structure on the category of tetramodules of a bialgebra. Suppose $C$ is an abelian $n$-fold monoidal category with the unit object $A$. We prove, provided some condition (*), that $Ext_C(A,A)$ is an $(n+1)$-algebra. In the case of bialgebras this condition (*) is satisfied when $A$ is a Hopf algebra. Finally, the GS cohomology of a Hopf algebra is a 3-algebra. As well, we consider this kind of questions of (bi)algebras over integers. Let $A$ be an associative algebra over $Z$ flat over $Z$. We prove that the operad acting on its Hochschild cohomology is the operad of stable homotopy groups of the little discs operad.

Koszul duality in deformation quantization and Tamarkin's approach to Kontsevich formality

Let $α$ be a quadratic Poisson bivector on a vector space $V$. Then one can also consider $α$ as a quadratic Poisson bivector on the vector space $V^*[1]$. Fixed a universal deformation quantization (prediction some weights to all Kontsevich graphs [K97]), we have deformation quantization of the both algebras $S(V^*)$ and $Λ(V)$. These are graded quadratic algebras, and therefore Koszul algebras. We prove that for some universal deformation quantization, independent on $α$, these two algebras are Koszul dual. We characterize some deformation quantizations for which this theorem is true in the framework of the Tamarkin's theory [T1].

Kontsevich formality and PBW algebras

This paper is based on the author's paper "Koszul duality in deformation quantization, I", with some improvements. In particular, an Introduction is added, and the convergence of the spectral sequence in Lemma 2.1 is rigorously proven. Some informal discussion in Section 1.5 is added.

Koszul duality in deformation quantization, I

Let $α$ be a polynomial Poisson bivector on a finite-dimensional vector space $V$ over $\mathbb{C}$. Then Kontsevich [K97] gives a formula for a quantization $f\star g$ of the algebra $S(V)^*$. We give a construction of an algebra with the PBW property defined from $α$ by generators and relations. Namely, we define an algebra as the quotient of the free tensor algebra $T(V^*)$ by relations $x_i\otimes x_j-x_j\otimes x_i=R_{ij}(\hbar)$ where $R_{ij}(\hbar)\in T(V^*)\otimes\hbar \mathbb{C}[[\hbar]]$, $R_{ij}=\hbar \Sym(α_{ij})+\mathcal{O}(\hbar^2)$, with one relation for each pair of $i,j=1...\dim V$. We prove that the constructed algebra obeys the PBW property, and this is a generalization of the Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt theorem. In the case of a linear Poisson structure we get the PBW theorem itself, and for a quadratic Poisson structure we get an object closely related to a quantum $R$-matrix on $V$. At the same time we get a free resolution of the deformed algebra (for an arbitrary $α$). The construction of this PBW algebra is rather simple, as well as the proof of the PBW property. The major efforts should be undertaken to prove the conjecture that in this way we get an algebra isomorphic to the Kontsevich star-algebra.

An explicit construction of the Quillen homotopical category of dg Lie algebras

Let $\g_1$ and $\g_2$ be two dg Lie algebras, then it is well-known that the $L_\infty$ morphisms from $\g_1$ to $\g_2$ are in 1-1 correspondence to the solutions of the Maurer-Cartan equation in some dg Lie algebra $\Bbbk(\g_1,\g_2)$. Then the gauge action by exponents of the zero degree component $\Bbbk(\g_1,\g_2)^0$ on $MC\subset\Bbbk(\g_1,\g_2)^1$ gives an explicit "homotopy relation" between two $L_\infty$ morphisms. We prove that the quotient category by this relation (that is, the category whose objects are $L_\infty$ algebras and morphisms are $L_\infty$ morphisms modulo the gauge relation) is well-defined, and is a localization of the category of dg Lie algebras and dg Lie maps by quasi-isomorphisms. As localization is unique up to an equivalence, it is equivalent to the Quillen-Hinich homotopical category of dg Lie algebras [Q1,2], [H1,2]. Moreover, we prove that the Quillen's concept of a homotopy coincides with ours. The last result was conjectured by V.Dolgushev [D].

On $[A,A]/[A,[A,A]]$ and on a $W_n$-action on the consecutive commutators of free associative algebra

We consider the lower central filtration of the free associative algebra $A_n$ with $n$ generators as a Lie algebra. We consider the associated graded Lie algebra. It is shown that this Lie algebra has a huge center which belongs to the cyclic words, and on the quotient Lie algebra by the center there acts the Lie algebra $W_n$ of polynomial vector fields on $\mathbb{C}^n$. We compute the space $[A_n,A_n]/[A_n,[A_n,A_n]]$ and show that it is isomorphic to the space $Ω^2_{closed}(\mathbb{C}^n) \oplus Ω^4_{closed}(\mathbb{C}^n) \oplus Ω^6_{closed}(\mathbb{C}^n) \oplus ...$.

Hochschild cohomology of the Weyl algebra and traces in deformation quantization

We give a formula for a cocycle generating the Hochschild cohomology of the Weyl algebra with coefficients in its dual.It is given by an integral over the configuration space of ordered points on a circle. Using this formula and a non-commutative version of formal geometry, we obtain an explicit expression for the canonical trace in deformation quantization of symplectic manifolds.

An explicit formula for the deformation quantization of Lie bialgebras

A model of 3-dimensional topological quantum field theory is rigorously constructed. The results are applied to an explicit formula for deformation quantization of any finite-dimensional Lie bialgebra over the field of complex numbers. This gives an explicit construction of "quantum groups" from any Lie bialgebra, which was proven without explicit formulas in [EK].

Riemann-Roch-Hirzebruch theorem and Topological Quantum Mechanics

In the present paper we discuss an independent on the Grothendieck-Sato isomorphism approach to the Riemann-Roch-Hirzebruch formula for an arbitrary differential operator. Instead of the Grothendieck-Sato isomorphism, we use the Topological Quantum Mechanics (more or less equivalent to the well-known constructions with the Massey operations from [KS], [P], [Me]). The statement that the Massey operations can "produce" the integral in some set-up, has an independent from the RRH theorem interest. We finish the paper by some open questions arising when the main construction is applied to the cyclic homology (instead of the Hochschild homology).

A concept of $\frac23$PROP and deformation theory of (co)associative bialgebras

We introduce a concept of $\frac23$PROP generalizing the Kontsevich concept of $\frac12$PROP. We prove that some Stasheff-type compactification of the Kontsevich spaces $K(m,n)$ defines a topological $\frac23$PROP structure. The corresponding chain complex is a minimal model for its cohomology (both are considered as $\frac23$PROPs). We construct a $\frac23$PROP $\End(V)$ for a vector space $V$. Finally, we construct a dg Lie algebra controlling the deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra. Philosophically, this construction is a version of the Markl's operadic construction from [M1] applied to minimal models of $\frac23$PROPs.

The CROCs, non-commutative deformations, and (co)associative bialgebras

We compactify the spaces $K(m,n)$ introduced by Maxim Kontsevich. The initial idea was to construct an $L_\infty$ algebra governing the deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra. However, this compactification leads not to a resolution of the PROP of (co)associative bialgebras, but to a new algebraic structure we call here a CROC. It turns out that these constructions are related to the non-commutative deformations of (co)associative bialgebras. We construct an associative dg algebra conjecturally governing the non-commutative deformations of a bialgebra. Then, using the Quillen duality, we construct a dg Lie algebra conjecturally governing the commutative (usual) deformations of a (co)associative bialgebra. Philosophically, the main point is that for the associative bialgebras the non-commutative deformations is maybe a more fundamental object than the usual commutative ones.

Tsygan formality and Duflo formula

A proof of the Tsygan formality conjecture for chains

We extend the Kontsevich formality $L_\infty$-morphism $\U\colon T^\ndot_\poly(\R^d)\to\D^\ndot_\poly(\R^d)$ to an $L_\infty$-morphism of an $L_\infty$-modules over $T^\ndot_\poly(\R^d)$, $\hat \U\colon C_\ndot(A,A)\toΩ^\ndot(\R^d)$, $A=C^\infty(\R^d)$. The construction of the map $\hat \U$ is given in Kontsevich-type integrals. The conjecture that such an $L_\infty$-morphism exists is due to Boris Tsygan \cite{Ts}. As an application, we obtain an explicit formula for isomorphism $A_*/[A_*,A_*]\simto A/\{A,A\}$ ($A_*$ is the Kontsevich deformation quantization of the algebra $A$ by a Poisson bivector field, and $\{{,}\}$ is the Poisson bracket). We also formulate a conjecture extending the Kontsevich theorem on the cup-products to this context. The conjecture implies a generalization of the Duflo formula, and many other things.

Vanishing of the Kontsevich integrals of the wheels

We prove that the Kontsevich integrals (in the sense of the formality theorem) of all even wheels are equal to zero. We deduce this theorem from the result of \cite{FSh} on the deformation quantization with traces.

Deformation quantization with traces

In the present paper we prove a statement closely related to the cyclic formality conjecture. In particular, we prove that for a divergence-free Poisson bivector field on R^d, the Kontsevich star-product with the harmonic angle function is cyclic. We also prove a globalization of this theorem in the case of arbitrary Poisson manifolds and prove a generalization of the Connes-Flato-Sternheimer conjecture on closed star-products in the Poisson case.
