IceCube search for neutrinos coincident with gravitational wave events from LIGO/Virgo run O3

Using data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, we searched for high-energy neutrino emission from the gravitational-wave events detected by advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors during their third observing run. We did a low-latency follow-up on the public candidate events released during the detectors' third observing run and an archival search on the 80 confident events reported in GWTC-2.1 and GWTC-3 catalogs. An extended search was also conducted for neutrino emission on longer timescales from neutron star containing mergers. Follow-up searches on the candidate optical counterpart of GW190521 were also conducted. We used two methods; an unbinned maximum likelihood analysis and a Bayesian analysis using astrophysical priors, both of which were previously used to search for high-energy neutrino emission from gravitational-wave events. No significant neutrino emission was observed by any analysis and upper limits were placed on the time-integrated neutrino flux as well as the total isotropic equivalent energy emitted in high-energy neutrinos.

Observation of the decay $D^+_s\to ωπ^+η$

Using 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV, we observe for the first time the decay $D^{\pm}_s\to ωπ^{\pm}η$ with a statistical significance of 7.6$σ$. The measured branching fraction of this decay is $(0.54\pm0.12\pm0.04)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Study of $e^+e^-\toγϕJ/ψ$ from $\sqrt{s}=4.600$ to $4.951$ GeV

Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of $6.4$~fb$^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, the process of $e^+e^-\toγϕJ/ψ$ is studied. The processes of $e^+e^-\toϕχ_{c1,c2}$, $χ_{c1,c2}\toγJ/ψ$ are observed with a significance of more than $10σ$. The $\sqrt{s}$-dependent cross section of $e^+e^- \to ϕχ_{c1,c2}$ is measured between 4.600 and 4.951~GeV, and evidence of a resonance structure is found for the first time in the $ϕχ_{c2}$ process. We also search for the processes of $e^+e^-\toγX(4140)$, $γX(4274)$ and $γX(4500)$ via the $γϕJ/ψ$ final state, but no obvious structures are found. The upper limits on the production cross section times the branching fraction for these processes at the 90% confidence level are reported.

Search for $B$ Mesogenesis at BABAR

A new mechanism has been proposed to simultaneously explain the presence of dark matter and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. This scenario predicts exotic $B$ meson decays into a baryon and a dark sector anti-baryon ($ψ_D$) with branching fractions accessible at $B$ factories. We present a search for $B \rightarrow Λψ_D$ decays using data collected by the $BABAR$ experiment at SLAC. This reaction is identified by fully reconstructing the accompanying $B$ meson and requiring the presence of a single $Λ$ baryon in the remaining particles. No significant signal is observed, and bounds on the $B \rightarrow Λψ_D$ branching fraction are derived in the range $0.13 - 5.2\times 10^{-5}$ for $1.0 < m_{ψ_D} < 4.2$ GeV/$c^{2}$. These results set strong constraints on the parameter space allowed by the theory.

The design and test results of A Giga-Bit Cable Receiver (GBCR) for the ATLAS Inner Tracker Pixel Detector

This paper presents the design and test results of a Gigabit Cable Receiver ASIC called GBCR for the HL-LHC upgrade of the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) pixel detector. Three prototypes (GBCR1, GBCR2, and GBCR3) have been designed in the CERN-identified 65 nm CMOS technology. GBCR receives seven (GBCR2) or six (GBCR3) channels (RX) each at 1.28 Gbps from the front-end readout chip RD53B via flex cables up to 1 meter and Twinax cables up to 5 meters and sends the equalized and retimed signals to lpGBT. Both GBCR2 and GBCR3 ASICs have two transmitting channels (TX) that pre-emphasize the signals from lpGBT before sending them to RD53B through the same cables. No Single-Event Upset (SEU) is observed in any tested channels of GBCR2 in a 400 MeV proton beam. The extrapolated bit error rate for the future HL-LHC application is below 8*10^(-16), significantly below the specified BER criterion. GBCR3 is designed to improve the immunity to single-event-upset by applying the Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) technology to all RX channels. The retimed signals from GBCR3 have less total jitter than those from GBCR2 (35 ps versus 79 ps). Each receiver channel of GBCR3 consumes 75% more power than that of GBCR2.

Two-Color Attosecond Chronoscope

We study ionization of atoms in strong orthogonal two-color ($ω,2ω$) (OTC) laser fields numerically and analytically. The calculated photoelectron momentum distribution shows two typical structures: a rectangular-like structure and a shoulder-like structure, the positions of which depend on the laser parameters. Using a strong-field model which allows us to quantitatively evaluate the Coulomb effect, we show that these two structures arise from attosecond response of electron inside an atom to light in OTC-induced photoemission. Some simple mappings between the locations of these structures and response time are derived, with which we are able to establish two-color attosecond chronoscope with high resolution for timing electron emission in OTC-based precise manipulation.

Search for hyperon $ΔS=ΔQ$ violating decay $Ξ^{0}\toΣ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}$

Using a data sample of $(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10}$ $J/ψ$ decay events collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=3.097$ GeV, we present a search for the hyperon semileptonic decay $Ξ^{0}\toΣ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}$ which violates the $ΔS=ΔQ$ rule. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(Ξ^{0}\toΣ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})$ is determined to be $1.6\times10^{-4}$ at the 90% confidence level. This result improves the previous upper limit result by about one order of magnitude.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow K^+ D_{s}^{*-} D^{*0}+c.c.$

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed $Z_{cs}(3985)^{-}$ state, denoted as $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}$, in the process $e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}+c.c.$, based on $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=4.661$, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}$ is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate $K^+$ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\to D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}$ ($c.c.$). We find an excess of $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{*0}$ ($c.c.$) candidates with a significance of $2.1σ$, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of $(4123.5\pm0.7_\mathrm{stat.}\pm4.7_\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections ($σ^{\mathrm{Born}}$) and the branching fraction ($\mathcal{B}$) of $Z_{cs}^{\prime-}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}$, under different assumptions of the $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}$ mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of $σ^{\rm Born}\cdot\mathcal{B}$ are found to be at the level of $\mathcal{O}(1)$ pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the $Z_{cs}^{\prime -}$ state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

Measurement of the $B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ branching ratio and $|V_{cb}|$ with a fully reconstructed accompanying $B$ meson in 2019-2021 Belle II data

We present a measurement of the $B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e,μ$) branching ratio and of the CKM parameter $|V_{cb}|$ using signal decays accompanied by a fully reconstructed $B$ meson. The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance, corresponding to 189.3$\,$fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters $η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}|$ and $ρ^{2}$ are extracted, where $η_{\rm EW}$ is an electroweak correction, $F(1)$ is a normalization factor and $ρ^{2}$ is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain $\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%$, $η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$, and $ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}$.

Measurement of branching fraction of $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_s π^0$ relative to $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_s γ$

Based on 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data taken at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_sπ^0$ relative to that of $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_sγ$ to be $(6.16\pm 0.43\pm 0.19)\%$. The first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. By using the world average value of the branching fraction of $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_se^+e^-$, we determine the branching fractions of $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_sγ$ and $D^{*+}_s\to D^+_sπ^0$ to be $(93.57\pm0.44\pm0.19)\%$ and $(5.76\pm0.44\pm0.19)\%$, respectively.

D-Egg: a Dual PMT Optical Module for IceCube

The D-Egg, an acronym for ``Dual optical sensors in an Ellipsoid Glass for Gen2,'' is one of the optical modules designed for future extensions of the IceCube experiment at the South Pole. The D-Egg has an elongated-sphere shape to maximize the photon-sensitive effective area while maintaining a narrow diameter to reduce the cost and the time needed for drilling of the deployment holes in the glacial ice for the optical modules at depths up to 2700 meters. The D-Egg design is utilized for the IceCube Upgrade, the next stage of the IceCube project also known as IceCube-Gen2 Phase 1, where nearly half of the optical sensors to be deployed are D-Eggs. With two 8-inch high-quantum efficiency photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) per module, D-Eggs offer an increased effective area while retaining the successful design of the IceCube digital optical module (DOM). The convolution of the wavelength-dependent effective area and the Cherenkov emission spectrum provides an effective photodetection sensitivity that is 2.8 times larger than that of IceCube DOMs. The signal of each of the two PMTs is digitized using ultra-low-power 14-bit analog-to-digital converters with a sampling frequency of 240 MSPS, enabling a flexible event triggering, as well as seamless and lossless event recording of single-photon signals to multi-photons exceeding 200 photoelectrons within 10 nanoseconds. Mass production of D-Eggs has been completed, with 277 out of the 310 D-Eggs produced to be used in the IceCube Upgrade. In this paper, we report the des\ ign of the D-Eggs, as well as the sensitivity and the single to multi-photon detection performance of mass-produced D-Eggs measured in a laboratory using the built-in data acquisition system in each D-Egg optical sensor module.

First Observation of the Semileptonic Decay $Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e$

Using $4.5~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data samples collected at the center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600~GeV to 4.699~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a first study of the semileptonic decays $Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e$, $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520) e^+ν_e$ and $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405) e^+ν_e$ is performed. The $Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e$ decay is observed with a significance of $8.2σ$ and the branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e)=(0.88\pm0.17_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}$. We also report evidence of $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e$ and $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405)e^+ν_e$ with significances of $3.3σ$ and $3.2σ$, respectively, and measure $\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e)=(1.02\pm0.52_{\rm stat.}\pm0.11_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1405)[\rightarrow pK^-]e^+ν_e)=(0.42\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.04_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$. Combining these with the inclusive semileptonic $Λ_c^+$ branching fraction measured by BESIII, the relative fraction is determined to be $[\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)]=(2.1\pm0.4_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\%$, which provides a clear confirmation that semileptonic $Λ_c^+$ decays are not saturated by the $Λ\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ final state.

Observation of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ decays into $ηΣ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$

The decays $J/ψ\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-$ and $ψ(3686)\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-$ are observed for the first time, using $(10087 \pm 44)\times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ and $(448.1 \pm 2.9)\times 10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. We determine the branching fractions of these two decays to be ${\cal B}(J/ψ\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-)=(6.34 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.37)\times 10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(ψ(3686)\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-)=(9.59 \pm 2.37 \pm 0.61)\times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratio of these two branching fractions is determined to be $\frac{{\cal B}(ψ(3686)\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-)}{{\cal B}(J/ψ\toηΣ^{+}\barΣ{}^-)}=(15.1 \pm 3.8)\%$, which is in agreement with the "12\% rule."

Observations of the Cabibbo-Suppressed decays $Λ_{c}^{+}\to nπ^{+}π^{0}$, $nπ^{+}π^{-}π^{+}$ and the Cabibbo-Favored decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\to nK^{-}π^{+}π^{+}$

Using electron-positron annihilation data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 $\rm{{fb}^{-1}}$, collected by the BESIII detector in the energy region between $4600$ MeV and $4699$ MeV, we report the first observations of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+π^0$, $Λ_c^+\to nπ^+π^-π^+$, and the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to nK^-π^+π^+$ with statistical significances of $7.9σ$, $7.8σ$, and $>10σ$, respectively. The branching fractions of these decays are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow nπ^{+}π^{0})=(0.64\pm0.09\pm0.02)\%$, $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow nπ^{+}π^{-}π^{+})=(0.45\pm0.07\pm0.03)\%$, and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow nK^{-}π^{+}π^{+})=(1.90\pm0.08\pm0.09)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We find that the branching fraction of the decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow nπ^{+}π^{0}$ is about one order of magnitude higher than that of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow nπ^{+}$.

Response time of photoemission at quantum-classic boundary

The response time of the electron to light in photoemission is difficult to define and measure. Tunneling ionization of atoms, a strong-laser-induced photoemission process, provides a semiclassical case for visiting the problem. Here, we show that the response time can be determined at the boundary between quantum and classic. Specifically, tunneling is instantaneous but a finite response time (about 100 attoseconds) is needed for the state of the tunneling electron to evolve into the ionized state around tunnel exit. This time can be well described with a compact expression related to some basic laser and atomic parameters. Moreover, it can be directly mapped to and easily decoded from photoelectron momentum with a simple mapping, allowing an unambiguous measurement. These results shed light on definition and measurement of the response time of photoemission.

Roles of laser ellipticity in attoclock

We study ionization of atoms in strong elliptically-polarized laser fields numerically and analytically. We focus on effects of laser ellipticity on the offset angle in photoelectron momentum distribution. This angle is considered to encode time information of tunneling ionization in attoclock experiments. The calculated offset angle increases with the decrease of ellipticity but the momentum along the major axis of laser polarization related to this angle changes slowly, in agreement with experiments. With a Coulomb-included strong-field model, the scaling laws for ellipticity dependence of this angle and relevant momentum components are obtained, and the ellipticity dependence of Coulomb-induced ionization time lag encoded in this angle is also addressed.

Determination of U-spin breaking parameters with an amplitude analysis of the decay $D^0 \to K_{\rm L}^0π^+π^-$

We present a study of the resonant structure of the decay $D^0 \to K_{\rm L}^0π^+π^-$, using quantum-correlated $D^0\bar{D}^0$ data produced at $\sqrt{s}=3.773$ GeV. The data sample was collected by the BESIII experiment and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $2.93$ fb$^{-1}$. This study is the first amplitude analysis of a decay mode involving a $K_{\rm L}^0$, which also results in the first measurement of the complex $\textit{U-spin breaking parameters}$ ($\hatρ$) related to various $\mathit{CP}$-eigenstate resonant modes through which the three-body decay proceeds. The moduli of the $\hatρ$ parameters have central values in a wide range from $0.4$ to $12.1$, which indicates substantial U-spin symmetry breaking. We present the fractional resonant contributions and average strong-phase parameters over regions of phase space for both $K_{\rm S}^0π^+π^-$ and $K_{\rm L}^0π^+π^-$ modes. We also report the ratio of the branching fractions between $K_{\rm L}^0π^+π^-$ and $K_{\rm S}^0π^+π^-$ decay modes and the $\mathit{CP}$-even fraction of the $K_{\rm L}^0π^+π^-$ state calculated using the U-spin breaking parameters.
