SOLIS-VSM Solar Vector Magnetograms

The Vector SpectroMagnetograph (VSM) instrument has recorded full-disk photospheric vector magnetograms weekly since August 2003 as part of the Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) project. After the full deployment of the VSM data processing system, a typical observing day will include three Fe I 630.2 nm full-disk photospheric vector magnetograms, one full-disk photospheric and three Ca II 854.2 nm chromospheric longitudinal magnetograms, along with three He I 1083 nm spectroheliograms. The photospheric vector magnetograms will be available over the Internet in two stages: first, as a quick-look product within minutes of data acquisition, and then as a Milne-Eddington inversion product within a day of each observation.

The Rotation Of The Deep Solar Layers

From the analysis of low-order GOLF+MDI sectoral modes and LOWL data (l > 3), we derive the solar radial rotation profile assuming no latitudinal dependance in the solar core. These low-order acoustic modes contain the most statistically significant information about rotation of the deepest solar layers and should be least influenced by internal variability associated with the solar dynamo. After correction of the sectoral splittings for their contamination by the rotation of the higher latitudes, we obtain a flat rotation profile down to 0.2 solar radius.

Random Lag Singular Cross-Spectrum Analysis

In a previous paper (Varadi et al., 1999), Random Lag Singular Spectrum Analysis was offered as a tool to find oscillations in very noisy and long time series. This work presents a generalization of the technique to search for common oscillations in two or more time series.
