Starobinsky-Type Inflation With Products of Kaehler Manifolds

We present a novel realization of Starobinsky-type inflation within Supergravity using two chiral superfields. The proposed superpotential is inspired by induced-gravity models. The Kaehler potential contains two logarithmic terms, one for the inflaton T and one for the matter-like field S, parameterizing the SU(1,1)/U(1)x SU(2)/U(1) Kaehler manifold. The two factors have constant curvatures -m/n and 2/n2, where n, m are the exponents of T in the superpotential and Kaehler potential respectively, and 0<n2<=6. The inflationary observables depend on the ratio 2n/m only. Essentially they coincide with the observables of the original Starobinsky model. Moreover, the inflaton mass is predicted to be 3x10^13 GeV.

Kinetically Modified Non-Minimal Higgs Inflation in Supergravity

We consider models of chaotic inflation driven by the real parts of a conjugate pair of Higgs superfields involved in the spontaneous breaking of a grand unification symmetry at a scale assuming its supersymmetric value. We combine a superpotential, which is uniquely determined by applying a continuous R symmetry, with a class of logarithmic or semi-logarithmic Kahler potentials which exhibit a prominent shift-symmetry with a tiny violation, whose strengths are quantified by c- and c+ respectively. The inflationary observables provide an excellent match to the recent BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck results setting 3.5x10^-3<=r+-=c+/c-<=1/N where N=3 or 2 is the prefactor of the logarithm. Inflation can be attained for subplanckian inflaton values with the corresponding effective theories retaining the perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale.

Probing the hyperbolic branch/focus point region of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with generalized Yukawa quasi-unification

We analyze the parametric space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu>0 supplemented by a generalized asymptotic Yukawa coupling quasi-unification condition which yields acceptable masses for the fermions of the third family. We impose constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe and its direct detection experiments, the B-physics, as well as the masses of the sparticles and the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson. Fixing the mass of the latter to its central value from the LHC and taking 40<=tanbeta<=50, we find a relatively wide allowed parameter space with -11<=A_0/M_{1/2}<=15 and mass of the lightest sparticle in the range (0.09-1.1) TeV. This sparticle is possibly detectable by the present cold dark matter direct search experiments. The required fine-tuning for the electroweak symmetry breaking is much milder than the one needed in the neutralino-stau coannihilation region of the same model.

Observable Gravitational Waves From Kinetically Modified Non-Minimal Inflation

We consider Supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models of chaotic inflation based on the simplest power-law potential with exponents n=2 and 4. We propose a convenient non-minimal coupling to gravity and a non-minimal kinetic term which ensure, mainly for n=4, inflationary observables favored by the BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck results. Inflation can be attained for subplanckian inflaton values with the corresponding effective theories retaining the perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale.

CMSSM With Generalized Yukawa Quasi-Unification: An Update

We analyze the parametric space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM) with mu>0 supplemented by a generalized asymptotic Yukawa coupling quasi-unification condition which yields acceptable masses for the fermions of the third family. We impose constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe and its direct detection experiments, the B-physics, as well as the masses of the sparticles and the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson, m_h. We identify two distinct allowed regions with M_{1/2}>m_0 and m_0>>M_{1/2} classified in the hyperbolic branch of the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. In the first region we obtain, approximately, 44<=tan beta<=52, -3<=A_0/M_{1/2}<=0.1, 122<=m_h/GeV<=127, and mass of the lightest sparticle in the range (0.75-1.43) TeV. Such heavy lightest sparticle masses can become consistent with the cold dark matter requirement on the lightest sparticle relic density thanks to neutralino-stau coannihilations. In the latter region, fixing m_h to its central value from the LHC, we find a wider allowed parameter space with milder electroweak-symmetry-breaking fine-tuning, 40<=tanbeta<=50, -11<=A_0/M_{1/2}<=15 and mass of the lightest sparticle in the range (0.09-1.1) TeV. This sparticle is possibly detectable by the present cold dark matter direct search experiments.

Induced-Gravity Inflation in Supergravity Confronted with Planck 2015 & BICEP2/Keck Array

Supersymmetric versions of induced-gravity inflation are formulated within Supergravity (SUGRA) employing two gauge singlet chiral superfields. The proposed superpotential is uniquely determined by applying a continuous R and a discrete Z_2 symmetry. We also employ a logarithmic Kahler potential respecting the symmetries above and including all the allowed terms up to fourth order in powers of the various fields. When the Kahler manifold exhibits a no-scale-type symmetry, the model predicts spectral index ns=0.963 and tensor-to-scalar r=0.004. Beyond no-scale SUGRA, ns and r depend crucially on the coefficient ksphi involved in the fourth order term, which mixes the inflaton Phi with the accompanying non-inflaton superfield S in the Kahler potential, and the prefactor encountered in it. Increasing slightly the latter above (-3), an efficient enhancement of the resulting r can be achieved putting it in the observable range favored by the Planck and BICEP2/Keck Array results. In all cases, imposing a lower bound on the parameter cR, involved in the coupling between the inflaton and the Ricci scalar curvature, inflation can be attained for subplanckian values of the inflaton while the corresponding effective theory respects the perturbative unitarity.

Kinetically Modified Non-Minimal Chaotic Inflation

We consider Supersymmetric (SUSY) and non-SUSY models of chaotic inflation based on the phi^n potential with 2<=n<=6. We show that the coexistence of a nonminimal coupling to gravity, fR=1+cR phi^(n/2), with a kinetic mixing of the form fK=cK fR^m can accommodate values of the spectral index, ns, and the tensor-to-scalar ratio, r, favored by the Bicep2/Keck Array and Planck results for 0<=m<=4 and 2.5x10^(-4)<=rRK=cR/cK^{n/4}<=1, where the upper limit is not imposed for n=2. Inflation can be attained for subplanckian inflaton values with the corresponding effective theories retaining the perturbative unitarity up to the Planck scale.

Models of Non-Minimal Chaotic Inflation in Supergravity

We show how we can implement chaotic inflation in the context of supergravity by conveniently selecting the functional form of a strong enough non-minimal coupling between the inflaton and the Ricci scalar curvature. The procedure can be applied when a gauge singlet or non-singlet inflaton is coupled to another singlet superfield within linear-quadratic, trilinear or bilinear superpotential terms. The tachyonic instability occurring along the direction of the accompanying non-inflaton field can be cured by expanding the kinetic part of the frame function up to the fourth order in powers of the various fields. In the case of a gauge non-singlet inflaton, though, a conjugation symmetry has to be imposed on these terms in order for the flatness of the inflationary potential is maintained. On the other hand, some of these terms assist us to precisely reconcile the resulting scalar spectral index with the current PLANCK measurements while the other inflationary observables are in agreement with data.

Reconciling Induced-Gravity Inflation in Supergravity With The Planck 2013 & BICEP2 Results

We generalize the embedding of induced-gravity inflation beyond the no-scale Supergravity presented in arXiv:1403.5486 employing two gauge singlet chiral superfields, a superpotential uniquely determined by applying a continuous R and a discrete Zn symmetries, and a logarithmic Kahler potential including all the allowed terms up to fourth order in powers of the various fields. We show that, increasing slightly the prefactor (-3) encountered in the adopted Kahler potential, an efficient enhancement of the resulting tensor-to-scalar ratio can be achieved rendering the predictions of the model consistent with the recent BICEP2 results, even with subplanckian excursions of the original inflaton field. The remaining inflationary observables can become compatible with the data by mildly tuning the coefficient involved in the fourth order term of the Kahler potential which mixes the inflaton with the accompanying non-inflaton field. The inflaton mass is predicted to be close to 10^14 GeV.

Induced-Gravity Inflation in no-Scale Supergravity and Beyond

Supersymmetric versions of induced-gravity inflation are formulated within Supergravity (SUGRA) employing two gauge singlet chiral superfields. The proposed superpotential is uniquely determined by applying a continuous R and a discrete Z_n symmetry. We select two types of logarithmic Kahler potentials, one associated with a no-scale-type SU(2,1) / SU(2) x U(1)_R x Z_n Kahler manifold and one more generic. In both cases, imposing a lower bound on the parameter cR involved in the coupling between the inflaton and the Ricci scalar curvature - e.g. cR > 76, 105, 310 for n=2,3 and 6 respectively -, inflation can be attained even for subplanckian values of the inflaton while the corresponding effective theory respects the perturbative unitarity. In the case of no-scale SUGRA we show that, for every n, the inflationary observables remain unchanged and in agreement with the current data while the inflaton mass is predicted to be 3x10^13 GeV. Beyond no-scale SUGRA the inflationary observables depend mildly on n and crucially on the coefficient involved in the fourth order term of the Kahler potential which mixes the inflaton with the accompanying non-inflaton field.

Cold Dark Matter and Higgs Mass in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Generalized Yukawa Quasi-Unification

The construction of specific supersymmetric grand unified models based on the Pati-Salam gauge group and leading to a set of Yukawa quasi-unification conditions which can allow an acceptable b-quark mass within the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu>0 is briefly reviewed. Imposing constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe, B physics, and the mass mh of the lighter neutral CP-even Higgs boson, we find that there is an allowed parameter space with, approximately, 44<tanbeta<52, -3<A0/M_{1/2}<0.1, 122<mh/GeV<127, and mass of the lightest sparticle in the range (0.75-1.43) TeV. Such heavy lightest sparticle masses can become consistent with the cold dark matter requirements on the lightest sparticle relic density thanks to neutralino-stau coannihilations which are enhanced due to stau-antistau coannihilation to down type fermions via a direct-channel exchange of the heavier neutral CP-even Higgs boson. Restrictions on the model parameters by the muon anomalous magnetic moment are also discussed.

Inflation, Leptogenesis, and Yukawa Quasi-Unification within a Supersymmetric Left-Right Model

A simple extension of the minimal left-right symmetric supersymmetric grand unified theory model is constructed by adding two pairs of superfields. This naturally violates the partial Yukawa unification predicted by the minimal model. After including supergravity corrections, we find that this extended model naturally supports hilltop F-term hybrid inflation along its trivial inflationary path with only a very mild tuning of the initial conditions. With a convenient choice of signs of the terms in the Kahler potential, we can reconcile the inflationary scale with the supersymmetric grand unified theory scale. All the current data on the inflationary observables are readily reproduced. Inflation is followed by non-thermal leptogenesis via the decay of the right-handed neutrinos emerging from the decay of the inflaton and any possible washout of the lepton asymmetry is avoided thanks to the violation of partial Yukawa unification. The extra superfields also assist us in reducing the reheat temperature so as to satisfy the gravitino constraint. The observed baryon asymmetry of the universe is naturally reproduced consistently with the neutrino oscillation parameters.

Implementing Hilltop F-term Hybrid Inflation in Supergravity

F-term hybrid inflation (FHI) of the hilltop type can generate a scalar spectral index, ns, in agreement with the fitting of the seven-year Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe data by the standard power-law cosmological model with cold dark matter and a cosmological constant, LambdaCDM. We investigate the realization of this type of FHI by using quasi-canonical Kahler potentials with or without the inclusion of extra hidden-sector fields. In the first case, acceptable results can be obtained by constraining the coefficients of the quadratic and/or quartic supergravity correction to the inflationary potential and therefore a mild tuning of the relevant term of the Kahler potential is unavoidable. Possible reduction of ns without generating maxima and minima of the potential on the inflationary path is also possible in a limited region of the available parameter space. The tuning of the terms of the Kahler potential can be avoided with the adoption of a simple class of string-inspired Kahler potentials for the hidden-sector fields which ensures a resolution to the eta problem of FHI and allows acceptable values for the spectral index, constraining the coefficient of the quartic supergravity correction to the inflationary potential. Performing a four-point test of the analyzed models, we single out the most promising of these.

Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Generalized Yukawa Quasi-Unification

We analyze the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu>0 supplemented by a generalized `asymptotic' Yukawa coupling quasi-unification condition, which allows an acceptable b-quark mass. We impose constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe, B physics, and the mass of the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson. We find that, in contrast to previous results obtained for a more restrictive Yukawa quasi-unification condition, the lightest neutralino can act as a cold dark matter candidate in a relatively wide parameter range. In this range, the lightest neutralino relic abundance is drastically reduced mainly by stau-antistau coannihilations and, thus, the upper bound on this abundance from cold dark matter considerations becomes compatible with the recent data on the branching ratio of B_s --> mu^+mu^-. Also, masses for the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson about (125-126) GeV, favored by LHC, can be easily accommodated. The mass of the lightest neutralino, though, comes out large (~1 TeV).

Combining F-Term Hybrid Inflation With a Peccei-Quinn Phase Transition

We consider an inflationary model based only on renormalizable superpotential terms in which a superheavy scale F-term hybrid inflation (FHI) is followed by a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) phase transition. We show that the field which triggers the PQ phase transition influences drastically the inflationary dynamics and that the Universe undergoes a secondary phase of reheating after the PQ phase transition. Confronting FHI with the current observational data we find that, for the central value of the spectral index, the grand unification scale can assume its supersymmetric value for more or less natural values for the remaining model parameters. On the other hand, the final reheat temperature after the PQ phase transition turns out to be low enough to avoid the gravitino problem.

Non-Minimal Chaotic Inflation, Peccei-Quinn Phase Transition and non-Thermal Leptogenesis

We consider a phenomenological extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which incorporates non-minimal chaotic inflation, driven by a quadratic potential in conjunction with a linear term in the frame function. Inflation is followed by a Peccei-Quinn phase transition, based on renormalizable superpotential terms, which resolves the strong CP and mu problems of MSSM and provide masses lower than about 10^12 GeV for the right-handed (RH) (s)neutrinos. Baryogenesis occurs via non-thermal leptogenesis, realized by the out-of-equilibrium decay of the RH sneutrinos which are produced by the inflaton's decay. Confronting our scenario with the current observational data on the inflationary observables, the light neutrino masses, the baryon asymmetry of the universe and the gravitino limit on the reheat temperature, we constrain the strength of the gravitational coupling to rather large values (~45-2950) and the Dirac neutrino masses to values between about 1 and 10 GeV.

Leptogenesis and Neutrino Masses in an Inflationary SUSY Pati-Salam Model

We implement the mechanism of non-thermal leptogenesis in the framework of an inflationary model based on a supersymmetric (SUSY) Pati-Salam Grand Unified Theory (GUT). In particular, we show that inflation is driven by a quartic potential associated with the Higgs fields involved in the spontaneous GUT symmetry breaking, in the presence of a non-minimal coupling of the inflaton field to gravity. The inflationary model relies on renormalizable superpotential terms and does not lead to overproduction of magnetic monopoles. It is largely independent of one-loop radiative corrections, and it can be consistent with current observational data on the inflationary observables, with the GUT symmetry breaking scale assuming its SUSY value. Non-thermal leptogenesis is realized by the out-of-equilibrium decay of the two lightest right-handed (RH) neutrinos, which are produced by the inflaton decay. Confronting our scenario with the current observational data on light neutrinos, the GUT prediction for the heaviest Dirac neutrino mass, the baryon asymmetry of the universe and the gravitino limit on the reheating temperature, we constrain the masses of the RH neutrinos in the range (10^10-10^15) GeV and the Dirac neutrino masses of the two first generations to values between 0.1 and 20 GeV.

Dark Matter and Higgs Mass in the CMSSM with Yukawa Quasi-Unification

We present an updated analysis of the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model with mu>0 supplemented by an `asymptotic' Yukawa coupling quasi-unification condition, which allows an acceptable b-quark mass. Imposing constraints from the cold dark matter abundance in the universe, B physics, the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and the mass m_h of the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson, we find that the lightest neutralino cannot act as a cold dark matter candidate. This is mainly because the upper bound on the lightest neutralino relic abundance from cold dark matter considerations, despite the fact that this abundance is drastically reduced by neutralino-stau coannihilations, is incompatible with the recent data on the branching ratio of B_s --> mu^+ mu^-. Allowing for a different particle, such as the axino or the gravitino, to be the lightest supersymmetric particle and, thus, constitute the cold dark matter in the universe, we find that the predicted m_h's in our model favor the range (119-126) GeV.
