Remedying the strong monotonicity of the coherence measure in terms of the Tsallis relative $α$ entropy

Coherence is the most fundamental quantum feature of the nonclassical systems. The understanding of coherence within the resource theory has been attracting increasing interest among which the quantification of coherence is an essential ingredient. A satisfactory measure should meet certain standard criteria. It seems that the most crucial criterion should be the strong monotonicity, that is, average coherence doesn't increase under the (sub-selective) incoherent operations. Recently, the Tsallis relative $α$ entropy [A. E. Rastegin, Phys. Rev. A \textbf{93}, 032136 (2016)] has been tried to quantify the coherence. But it was shown to violate the strong monotonicity, even though it can unambiguously distinguish the coherent and the incoherent states with the monotonicity. Here we establish a family of coherence quantifiers which are closely related to the Tsallis relative $α$ entropy. It proves that this family of quantifiers satisfy all the standard criteria and particularly cover several typical coherence measures.

Quantum Coherence via Skew Information and Its Polygamy

Quantifying coherence is a key task in both quantum mechanical theory and practical applications. Here, a reliable quantum coherence measure is presented by utilizing the quantum skew information of the state of interest subject to a certain broken observable. This coherence measure is proven to fulfill all the criteria (especially the strong monotonicity) recently introduced in the resource theories of quantum coherence. The coherence measure has an analytic expression and an obvious operational meaning related to quantum metrology. In terms of this coherence measure, the distribution of the quantum coherence, i.e., how the quantum coherence is distributed among the multiple parties is studied and a corresponding polygamy relation is proposed. As a further application, it is found that the coherence measure forms the natural upper bounds for quantum correlations prepared by incoherent operations. The experimental measurement of our coherence measure as well as the relative-entropy coherence, $l_p$-norm coherence is studied finally.

The Measurement-Disturbance Relation and the Disturbance Trade-off Relation in Terms of Relative Entropy

We employ quantum relative entropy to establish the relation between the measurement uncertainty and its disturbance on a state in the presence (and absence) of quantum memory. For two incompatible observables, we present the measurement-disturbance relation and the disturbance trade-off relation. We find that without quantum memory the disturbance induced by the measurement is never less than the measurement uncertainty and with quantum memory they depend on the conditional entropy of the measured state. We also generalize these relations to the case with multiple measurements. These relations are demonstrated by two examples.

Optimal Photon blockade on the maximal atomic coherence

There is generally no obvious evidence in any direct relation between photon blockade and atomic coherence. Here instead of only illustrating the photon statistics, we show an interesting relation between the steady-state photon blockade and the atomic coherence by designing a weakly driven cavity QED system with a two-level atom trapped. It is shown for the first time that the maximal atomic coherence has a perfect correspondence with the optimal photon blockade. The negative effects of the strong dissipations on photon statistics, atomic coherence and their correspondence are also addressed. The numerical simulation is also given to support all of our results.

Perfect photon absorption in hybrid atom-optomechanical system

Recently, the photon absorption attracts lots of interest and plays an important role in a variety of applications. Here, we propose a valuable scheme to investigate the perfect photon absorption in a hybrid atom-optomechanical system both under and beyond the low-excitation limit. The perfect photon absorption persists both in the linear atomic excitation regime and nonlinear atomic excitation regime, below the threshold of the optical bistability/multistability, respectively. We also show that the optical nonlinearity raised by the nonlinear optomechanical interaction and nonlinear atomic excitation can be overlap-added, there presents a perfect corresponding relation between perfect photon absorption and the optical multistability beyond the low-excitation limit, the optical bistability can be switched to the optical multistability by increasing the input intensity. The combination of the perfect photon absorption and optical bistability/mutistability is useful for the photon switch application. We believe that this study will provide a possible design of an optical switch.

The classical correlation limits the ability of the measurement-induced average coherence

Coherence is the most fundamental quantum feature in quantum mechanics. For a bipartite quantum state, if a measurement is performed on one party, the other party, based on the measurement outcomes, will collapse to a corresponding state with some probability and hence gain the average coherence. It is shown that the average coherence is not less than the coherence of its reduced density matrix. In particular, it is very surprising that the extra average coherence (and the maximal extra average coherence with all the possible measurements taken into account) is upper bounded by the classical correlation of the bipartite state instead of the quantum correlation. We also find the sufficient and necessary condition for the null maximal extra average coherence. Some examples demonstrate the relation and, moreover, show that quantum correlation is neither sufficient nor necessary for the nonzero extra average coherence within a given measurement. In addition, the similar conclusions are drawn for both the basis-dependent and the basis-free coherence measure.

Stronger uncertainty relations with improvable upper and lower bounds

We utilize quantum superposition principle to establish the improvable upper and lower bounds on the stronger uncertainty relation, i.e., the "weighted-like" sum of the variances of observables. Our bounds include some free parameters which not only guarantee the nontrivial bounds but also can effectively control the bounds as tightly as one expects. Especially, these parameters don't obviously depend on the state and observables. It also implies one advantage of our method that any nontrivial bound can always be more improvable. In addition, we generalize both bounds to the uncertainty relation with multiple observables, but the perfect tightness is not changed. Examples are given to illustrate the improvability of our bounds in each case.

Distribution of Standard deviation of an observable among superposed states

The standard deviation (SD) quantifies the spread of the observed values on a measurement of an observable. In this paper, we study the distribution of SD among the different components of a superposition state. It is found that the SD of an observable on a superposition state can be well bounded by the SDs of the superposed states. We also show that the bounds also serve as good bounds on coherence of a superposition state. As a further generalization, we give an alternative definition of incompatibility of two observables subject to a given state and show how the incompatibility subject to a superposition state is distributed.

Circuit QED: Cross-Kerr-effect induced by a superconducting qutrit without classical pulses

The realization of cross-Kerr nonlinearity is an important task for many applications in quantum information processing. In this work, we propose a method for realizing cross-Kerr nonlinearity interaction between two superconducting coplanar waveguide resonators coupled by a three-level superconducting flux qutrit (coupler). By employing the qutrit-resonator dispersive interaction, we derive an effective Hamiltonian involving two-photon number operators and a coupler operator. This Hamiltonian can be used to describe a cross-Kerr nonlinearity interaction between two resonators when the coupler is in the ground state. Because the coupler is unexcited during the entire process, the effect of coupler decoherence can be greatly minimized. More importantly, compared with the previous proposals, our proposal does not require classical pulses. Furthermore, due to use of only a three-level qutrit, the experimental setup is much simplified when compared with previous proposals requiring a four-level artificial atomic systems. Based on our Hamiltonian, we implement a two-resonator qubits controlled-phase gate and generate a two-resonator entangled coherent state. Numerical simulation shows that the high-fidelity implementation of the phase gate and creation of the entangled coherent state are feasible with current circuit QED technology.

Total quantum coherence and its applications

Quantum coherence is the most fundamental feature of quantum mechanics. The usual understanding of it depends on the choice of the basis, that is, the coherence of the same quantum state is different within different reference framework. To reveal all the potential coherence, we present the total quantum coherence measures in terms of two different methods. One is optimizing maximal basis-dependent coherence with all potential bases considered and the other is quantifying the distance between the state and the incoherent state set. Interestingly, the coherence measures based on relative entropy and $l_2$ norm have the same form in the two different methods. In particular, we show that the measures based on the non-contractive $l_2$ norm is also a good measure different from the basis-dependent coherence. In addition, we show that all the measures are analytically calculable and have all the good properties. The experimental schemes for the detection of these coherence measures are also proposed by multiple copies of quantum states instead of reconstructing the full density matrix. By studying one type of quantum probing schemes, we find that both the normalized trace in the scheme of deterministic quantum computation with one qubit (DQC1) and the overlap of two states in quantum overlap measurement schemes (QOM) can be well described by the change of total coherence of the probing qubit. Hence the nontrivial probing always leads to the change of the total coherence.

Optomechanically induced transparency in multi-cavity optomechanical system with and without one two-level atom

We analytically study the optomechanically induced transparency (OMIT) in the $N$-cavity system with the \textit{N}th cavity driven by pump, probing laser fields and the \textit{1}st cavity coupled to mechanical oscillator. We also consider that one atom could be trapped in the \textit{i}th cavity. Instead of only illustrating the OMIT in such a system, we are interested in how the number of OMIT windows is influenced by the cavities and the atom and what roles the atom could play in different cavities. In the resolved sideband regime, we find that, the number of cavities precisely determines the maximal number of OMIT windows. It is interesting that, when the two-level atom is trapped in the even-labeled cavity, the central absorptive peak (odd $N$) or dip (even $N$) is split and forms an extra OMIT window, but if the atom is trapped in the odd-labeled cavity, the central absorptive peak (odd $N$) or dip (even $N$) is only broadened and thus changes the width of the OMIT windows rather than induces an extra window.

Photon statistics on the extreme entanglement

The effects of photon bunching and antibunching correspond to the classical and quantum features of the electromagnetic field, respectively. No direct evidence suggests whether these effects can be potentially related to quantum entanglement. Here we design a cavity quantum electrodynamics model with two atoms trapped in to demonstrate the connections between the steady-state photon statistics and the two-atom entanglement . It is found that within the weak dissipations and to some good approximation, the local maximal two-atom entanglements perfectly correspond to not only the quantum feature of the electromagnetic field---the optimal photon antibunching, but also the classical feature---the optimal photon bunching. We also analyze the influence of strong dissipations and pure dephasing. An intuitive physical understanding is also given finally.

Measurable genuine tripartite entanglement of ($2\otimes 2\otimes n$)-dimensional quantum states via only two simultaneous copies

Usually, the three-tangle of a tripartite pure state of qubits can be directly measured with the simultaneous preparation of a not-less-than-four-fold copy of the state. We show that the exact genuine tripartite entanglement for ($2\otimes2\otimes n$)-dimensional pure quantum states can be measured in a similar manner, provided that only two simultaneous copies of the state are available. Lower bounds are also proposed for more convenient experimental operations. As an example, a comprehensive demonstration of the scheme is provided for the three-tangle of a three-qubit state.

Re-examining the self-contained quantum refrigerator in the strong-coupling regime

We revisit the self-contained quantum refrigerator in the strong-internal-coupling regime by employing the quantum optical master equation. It is shown that strong internal coupling reduces the cooling ability of the refrigerator. In contrast to the weak-coupling case, strong internal coupling could lead to quite different and even converse thermodynamic behaviors.

Entropic Uncertainty Principle and Information Exclusion Principle for multiple measurements in the presence of quantum memory

The Heisenberg uncertainty principle shows that no one can specify the values of the non-commuting canonically conjugated variables simultaneously. However, the uncertainty relation is usually applied to two incompatible measurements. We present tighter bounds on both entropic uncertainty relation and information exclusion principle for multiple measurements in the presence of quantum memory. As applications, three incompatible measurements on Werner state and Horodecki's bound entangled state are investigated in details.

The effect of center-of-mass motion on photon statistics

We analyze the photon statistics of a weakly driven cavity quantum electrodynamics system and discuss the effects of photon blockade and photon-induced tunneling by effectively utilizing instead of avoiding the center-of-mass motion of a two-level atom trapped in the cavity. With the resonant interaction between atom, photon and phonon, it is shown that the bunching and anti-bunching of photons can occur with properly driving frequency. Our study shows the influence of the imperfect cooling of atom on the blockade and provides an attempt to take advantage of the center-of-mass motion.

Effects of the reservoir squeezing on the precision of parameter estimation

The effects of reservoir squeezing on the precision of parameter estimation are investigated analytically based on non-perturbation procedures. The exact analytic quantum Fisher information (QFI) is obtained. It is shown that the QFI depends on the estimated parameter and its decay could be reduced by the squeezed reservoir compared with thermal (vacuum) reservoir, in particular, if the squeezing phase matching is satisfied.

The initial-state dependence of quantum speed limit

The generic bound of quantum speed limit time (the minimal evolution time) for a qubit system interacting with structural environment is investigated. We define a new bound for the quantum speed limit. It is shown that the non-Markovianity and the population of the excited state can fail to signal the quantum evolution acceleration, but the initial-state dependence is an important factor. In particular, we find that different quantum speed limits could produce contradictory predictions on the quantum evolution acceleration.
