Rotating fermions inside a spherical boundary

We apply the cannonical quantization procedure to the Dirac field inside a spherical boundary with rotating coordinates. The rotating quantum states with two kinds of boundary conditions, namely, spectral and MIT boundary conditions, are defined. To avoid faster-than-light, we require the speed on the surface to be less than the speed of light. For this situation, the definition of vacuum is unique and identical with the Minkowski vacuum. Finally, we calculate the thermal expectation value of the fermion condensate in a thermal equilibrium rotating fermion field and find it depends on the boundary condition.

Color superconductivity with self-consistent NJL-type model

In this paper, the NJL-type model is used to investigate the color superconductivity. The four-fermion interactions of the NJL-type model are Fierz-transformed into two different classes, i.e., the quark-antiquark and the quark-quark interaction channels, associated with the chiral symmetry breaking and color superconductivity respectively. We conclude that the weighting factor between quark-antiquark and quark-quark interaction channels has significance on the phase structure when the mean-field approximation is employed, and the baryon number density gives a tight constraint on the weighting factor of quark-antiquark interaction channels. Besides, the susceptibilities show that the color superconducting phase transition is of the second-order and takes place before the chiral crossover transition as quark number density increases. In the end, we study the critical temperatures $T_c$ of the color superconductivity and it agrees with the perturbative result of diquark condensate $Δ\approx0.57T_c$.

Chiral phase transition in a rotating sphere

We study the chiral phase transition of the two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in a rotating sphere, which includes both rotation and finite size effects. We find that rotation leads to a suppression of the chiral condensate at a finite temperature, while its effects are smaller than the finite size effects. Our work can be helpful to study the effects relevant to rotation in heavy-ion collisions in a more realistic way.

Chiral transition and the chiral charge density of the hot and dense QCD matter

We study the chirally imbalanced hot and dense strongly interacting matter by means of the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs). The chiral phase diagram is studied in the presence of chiral chemical potential $μ_5$. The chiral quark condensate $\langle \barψ ψ\rangle$ is obtained with the Cornwall-Jackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action in concert with the Rainbow truncation. Catalysis effect of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (DCSB) by $μ_5$ is observed. We examine with two popular gluon models and consistency is found within the DSE approach, as well as in comparison with lattice QCD. The CEP location $(μ_E,T_E)$ shifts toward larger $T_E$ but constant $μ_E$ as $μ_5$ increases. A technique is then introduced to compute the chiral charge density $n_5$ from the fully dressed quark propagator. We find the $n_5$ generally increases with temperature $T$, quark number chemical potential $μ$ and $μ_5$. Since the chiral magnetic effect (CME) is typically investigated with peripheral collisions, we also investigate the finite size effect on $n_5$ and find an increase in $n_5$ with smaller system size.

Exploring hybrid equation of state with constraints from tidal deformability of GW170817

With a interpolation method on the P-$μ$ plane, a hybrid equation of state is explored. The quark phase is described by our newly developed self-consistent two-flavor Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model. It retains the contribution from the vector channel in the Fierz-transformed Lagrangian by introducing a weighting parameter $α$ [Chin. Phys. C \textbf{43}, 084102 (2019)]. In the hadron phase we use the relativistic mean-field theory. We study the dependence of hybrid EOS and mass-radius relation on $α$. It is found that increasing $α$ makes the hybrid EOS softer in the medium pressure. We can get stellar mass larger than $2M_\odot$. Further, we calculate the tidal deformability $\tildeΛ$ for binary stars and compare with recent analysis GW170817 [Phys. Rev. X \textbf{9}, 011001 (2019)].

Spatial and Momentum Imaging of the Pion and Kaon

We determine the leading Fock state light front wave functions (LFWFs) of the pion and kaon via light front projections of the covariant Bethe-Salpeter wave function. Using these LFWFs we study the multi-dimensional images of the valence quarks in the pion and kaon that are provided by their generalized parton distribution functions (GPDs) and transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs). Moments of the GPDs are taken to obtain the electromagnetic and gravitational form factors of the pion and kaon, and comparisons to available experimental and lattice data are made. Highlights from this study include predictions that the mean-squared impact parameter for the quarks in the pion and kaon are: $\langle \vec{b}_T^2\rangle_{u}^π=0.11$fm$^2$, $\langle \vec{b}_T^2\rangle_{s}^K=0.08$fm$^2$, and $\langle \vec{b}_T^2\rangle_{u}^K=0.13$fm$^2$, and therefore the $s$ quark in the kaon is much closer to the center of transverse momentum than the $u$ quark. From the electromagnetic and gravitational form factors we find that the light-cone energy radii are about 60\% smaller than the light-cone charge radii for each quark sector in the pion and kaon. A quantitative measure of the importance of the leading Fock state is obtained via comparison with a full DSE calculation (containing an infinite tower of Fock states) for the pion form factor.

Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in a sphere

We study the chiral phase transition of the two flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in a sphere with the MIT boundary condition. We find that the MIT boundary condition results in much stronger finite size effects than the antiperiodic boundary condition. Our work may be helpful to study the finite size effects in heavy-ion collision in a more realistic way.

Non-strange quark stars from NJL model with proper-time regularisation

The structure of light quark star is studied within a new two-flavor NJL model. By retaining the contribution from the vector term in the Fierz-transformed Lagrangian, a two-solar-mass pure quark star is achieved. To overcome the disadvantage of three-momentum truncation in the regularisation procedure, we introduce the proper-time regularisation. We also employ the newly proposed definition of vacuum pressure, in which the quasi-Wigner vacuum (corresponding to the quasi-Winger solution of the gap equation) is used as the reference ground state. Free parameter includes only a mixing constant $α$ which weighs contribution from Fierz-transformed Lagrangian. We constrain $α$ to be around $0.9$ by the observed mass of pulsars $PSR J0348+0432$ and $PSR J1614-2230$. We find the calculated surface energy density meets the requirement ($> 2.80\times10^{14}$g/cm$^3 $). Besides, for a 1.4 solar mass star, the tidal Love number $k_2$ and deformability $Λ$ are calculated which satisfies the constrain $200 < Λ< 800$.

Non-user Inclusive Design for Maintaining Harmony of Real-Virtual Human Interaction in Augmented Reality

Augmented reality enables the illusion of contents such as objects and humans in the virtual world co-existing with users in the real world. However, non-users who are not aware of the presence of the virtual world and dynamically move nearby might either cause a conflict by directly breaking into space where a user is talking to a Virtual Human (VH), or be troubled when try to avoid disturbing the user. To maintain harmony and keep both the user's and non-users' comfort, we propose a method that controls the VH to adjust its own position to avoid such potential conflict. The difficulty to address this problem is that the agent must avoid potential conflict in a natural way to keep the user away from feeling unnatural. Our idea is to endow the VH with three capabilities: anticipating non-users walking around, understanding how to establish and maintain proper formation to adapt to the environment, and planning to avoid conflicts by shifting formation in advance. We develop a non-user inclusive spatial formation model that realizes natural arrangement shift corresponding to the environment based on theoretical sources from literature. We implemented our proposed model into a VH behavior planning system to achieve natural conflict avoidance. Evaluation experiments showed that it successfully reduces potential conflicts caused by non-users.

Pion and kaon valence quark distribution functions from Dyson-Schwinger equations

Using realistic quark propagators and meson Bethe-Salpeter amplitudes based on the Dyson-Schwinger equations, we calculate the pion and kaon's valence parton distribution functions (PDF) through the modified impulse approximation. The PDFs we obtained at hadronic scale have the purely valence characteristic and exhibit both dynamical chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effects. A new calculation technique is introduced to determine the valence PDFs with precision. Through NLO DGLAP evolution, our result is compared with pion and kaon valence PDF data at experimental scale. Good agreement is found in the case of pion, while deviation emerges for kaon. We point out this situation can be resolved by incorporating gluon contributions into the mesons if the pion hosts more gluons than kaon nonperturbatively.

Intrinsic Transverse Motion of the Pion's Valence Quarks

Starting with the solution to the Bethe-Salpeter equation for the pion, in a beyond rainbow-ladder truncation to QCD's Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs), we determine the pion's $l_z=0$ and $|l_z|=1$ leading Fock-state light-front wave functions (LFWFs) [labeled by $ψ_{l_z}(x,k_T^2)$]. The leading-twist time-reversal even transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function (TMD) of the pion is then directly obtained from these LFWFs. A key characteristic of the LFWFs, which is driven by dynamical chiral symmetry breaking, is that at typical hadronic scales they are broad functions in the light-cone momentum fraction $x$. The LFWFs have a non-trivial $(x,k_T^2)$ dependence and in general do not factorize into separate functions of each variable. The $l_z=0$ LFWF is concave with a maximum at $x=1/2$, whereas orbital angular momentum effects causes the $|l_z|=1$ LFWF to have a slight {\it double-humped} structure for quark transverse momentum in the range $0.5 \lesssim k_T^2 \lesssim 5\,$GeV$^2$. For $k_T^2 \lesssim 1\,$GeV$^2$ the $k_T^2$ dependence of the LFWFs is well described by a Gaussian, however for $k_T^2 \gtrsim 10\,$GeV$^2$ these LFWFs behave as $ψ_0 \propto x(1-x)/k_T^2$ and $ψ_1 \propto x(1-x)/k_T^4$, and therefore exhibit the power-law behavior predicted by perturbative QCD. The pion's TMD inherits many features from the LFWFs, where for $k_T^2 \lesssim 1\,$GeV$^2$ the $k_T^2$ dependence is well described by a Gaussian, and for large $k_T^2$ the TMD behaves as $f_π^q \propto x^2(1-x)^2/k_T^4$. At the model scale we find the average transverse momentum, defined by a Bessel-weighted moment with $b_T=0.3\,$fm, to equal $\langle k_T^2\rangle = 0.19\,$GeV$^2$. The TMD evolution of our result is studied using both the $b^*$ and $ζ$ prescriptions which allows a qualitative comparison with existing Drell-Yan data.

Continuum study on QCD phase diagram through an OPE-modified gluon propagator

Within the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) framework, a gluon propagator model incorporating quark's feedback through operator product expansion (OPE) is introduced to investigate the QCD phase diagram in the temperature--chemical-potential ($T-μ$) plane. Partial restoration of chiral symmetry at zero temperature and finite temperature are both studied, suggesting a first order phase transition point on the $μ$ axis and a critical end point at $(T_E,μ_E)/T_c = (0.85,1.11)$, where $T_c$ is the pseudo-critical temperature. In addition, we find the pseudo-critical line can be well parameterized with the curvature parameter $κ$ and a consistent decrease in $κ$ with more of gluon propagator distributed to quark's feedback.

Susceptibilities and critical exponents within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

In the mean field approximation of (2+1)-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, we strictly derive several sets of coupled equations for the chiral susceptibility, the quark number susceptibility, etc. at finite temperature and quark chemical potential. The critical exponents of these susceptibilities in the vicinity of the QCD critical end point (CEP) are presented in SU(2) and SU(3) cases, respectively. It is found that these various susceptibilities share almost the same critical behavior near the CEP. The comparisons between the critical exponents for the order parameters and the theoretical predictions are also included.

Kaon and pion parton distribution amplitudes to twist-three

We compute all kaon and pion parton distribution amplitudes (PDAs) to twist-three and find that only the pseudotensor PDA can reasonably be approximated by its conformal limit expression. At terrestrially accessible energy scales, the twist-two and pseudoscalar twist-three PDAs differ significantly from those functions commonly associated with their forms in QCD's conformal limit. In all amplitudes studied, SU(3) flavour-symmetry breaking is typically a 13% effect. This scale is determined by nonperturbative dynamics; namely, the current-quark-mass dependence of dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. The heavier-quark is favoured by this distortion, for example, support is shifted to the s-quark in the negative kaon. It appears, therefore, that at energy scales accessible with existing and foreseeable facilities, one may obtain reliable expectations for experimental outcomes by using these "strongly dressed" PDAs in formulae for hard exclusive processes. Following this procedure, any discrepancies between experiment and theory will be significantly smaller than those produced by using the conformal-limit PDAs. Moreover, the magnitude of any disagreement will either be a better estimate of higher-order, higher-twist effects or provide more realistic constraints on the Standard Model.

Locate QCD Critical End Point in a Continuum Model Study

With a modified chemical potential dependent effective model for the gluon propagator, we try to locate the critical end point (CEP) of strongly interacting matter in the framework of Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSE). Beyond the chiral limit, we find that Nambu solution and Wigner solution could coexist in some area. Using the CornwallJackiw-Tomboulis (CJT) effective action, we show that these two phases are connected by a first order phase transition. We then locate CEP as the end point of the first order phase transition line. Meanwhile, based on CJT effective action, we give a direct calculation for the chiral susceptibility and thereby study the crossover.

Flavour symmetry breaking in the kaon parton distribution amplitude

We compute the kaon's valence-quark (twist-two parton) distribution amplitude (PDA) by projecting its Poincare'-covariant Bethe-Salpeter wave-function onto the light-front. At a scale ζ=2GeV, the PDA is a broad, concave and asymmetric function, whose peak is shifted 12-16% away from its position in QCD's conformal limit. These features are a clear expression of SU(3)-flavour-symmetry breaking. They show that the heavier quark in the kaon carries more of the bound-state's momentum than the lighter quark and also that emergent phenomena in QCD modulate the magnitude of flavour-symmetry breaking: it is markedly smaller than one might expect based on the difference between light-quark current masses. Our results add to a body of evidence which indicates that at any energy scale accessible with existing or foreseeable facilities, a reliable guide to the interpretation of experiment requires the use of such nonperturbatively broadened PDAs in leading-order, leading-twist formulae for hard exclusive processes instead of the asymptotic PDA associated with QCD's conformal limit. We illustrate this via the ratio of kaon and pion electromagnetic form factors: using our nonperturbative PDAs in the appropriate formulae, $F_K/F_π=1.23$ at spacelike-$Q^2=17\,{\rm GeV}^2$, which compares satisfactorily with the value of $0.92(5)$ inferred in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation at $s=17\,{\rm GeV}^2$.

The Wigner Solution and QCD Phase Transitions in a Modified PNJL Model

By employing some modification to the widely used two-flavor Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model, we discuss the Wigner solution of the quark gap equation at finite temperature and zero quark chemical potential beyond the chiral limit, and then try to explore its influences on the chiral and deconfinement phase transitions of QCD at finite temperature and zero chemical potential. The discovery of the coexistence of the Nambu and the Wigner solutions of the quark gap equation with nonzero current quark mass at zero temperature and zero chemical potential, as well as their evolutions with temperature is very interesting for the studies of the phase transitions of QCD. According to our results, the chiral phase transition might be of first order (while the deconfinement phase transition is still a crossover, as in the normal PNJL model), and the corresponding phase transition temperature is lower than that of the deconfinement phase transition, instead of coinciding with each other, which are not the same as the conclusions obtained from the normal PNJL model. In addition, we also discuss the sensibility of our final results on the choice of model parameters.
