Conquering High Packet-Loss Erasure: MoE Swin Transformer-Based Video Semantic Communication

Semantic communication with joint semantic-channel coding robustly transmits diverse data modalities but faces challenges in mitigating semantic information loss due to packet drops in packet-based systems. Under current protocols, packets with errors are discarded, preventing the receiver from utilizing erroneous semantic data for robust decoding. To address this issue, a packet-loss-resistant MoE Swin Transformer-based Video Semantic Communication (MSTVSC) system is proposed in this paper. Semantic vectors are encoded by MSTVSC and transmitted through upper-layer protocol packetization. To investigate the impact of the packetization, a theoretical analysis of the packetization strategy is provided. To mitigate the semantic loss caused by packet loss, a 3D CNN at the receiver recovers missing information using un-lost semantic data and an packet-loss mask matrix. Semantic-level interleaving is employed to reduce concentrated semantic loss from packet drops. To improve compression, a common-individual decomposition approach is adopted, with downsampling applied to individual information to minimize redundancy. The model is lightweighted for practical deployment. Extensive simulations and comparisons demonstrate strong performance, achieving an MS-SSIM greater than 0.6 and a PSNR exceeding 20 dB at a 90% packet loss rate.

Efficient Gaussian Process Classification-based Physical-Layer Authentication with Configurable Fingerprints for 6G-Enabled IoT

The future 6G-enabled IoT will facilitate seamless global connectivity among ubiquitous wireless devices, but this advancement also introduces heightened security risks such as spoofing attacks. Physical-Layer Authentication (PLA) has emerged as a promising, inherently secure, and energy-efficient technique for authenticating IoT terminals. Nonetheless, the direct application of state-of-the-art PLA schemes to 6G-enabled IoT encounters two major hurdles: inaccurate channel fingerprints and the inefficient utilization of prior fingerprint information. To tackle these challenges, we leverage Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) to enhance fingerprint accuracy. Additionally, we integrate active learning and Gaussian Processes (GPs) to propose an Efficient Gaussian Process Classification (EGPC)-based PLA scheme, aiming for reliable and lightweight authentication. Following Bayes' theorem, we model configurable fingerprints using GPs and employ the expectation propagation method to identify unknown fingerprints. Given the difficulty of obtaining sufficient labeled fingerprint samples to train PLA models, we propose three fingerprint selection algorithms. These algorithms select unlabeled fingerprints and query their identities using upper-layer authentication mechanisms. Among these methods, the optimal algorithm reduces the number of training fingerprints needed through importance sampling and eliminates the requirement for PLA model retraining through joint distribution calculation. Simulations results reveal that, in comparison with non-RIS-based approaches, the RIS-aided PLA framework decreases the authentication error rate by 98.69%. In addition, our designed fingerprint selection algorithms achieve a reduction in the authentication error rate of up to 86.93% compared to baseline active learning schemes.

Compared to traditional communication paradigms, SemCom offers several notable advantages, such as reducing the burden on data transmission, enhancing network management efficiency, and optimizing resource allocation. Numerous researchers have extensively explored SemCom from various perspectives, including network architecture, theoretical analysis, potential technologies, and future applications. However, as SemCom continues to evolve, a multitude of security and privacy concerns have arisen, posing threats to the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of SemCom systems. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the technologies that can be utilized to secure SemCom. Firstly, we elaborate on the entire life cycle of SemCom, which includes the model training, model transfer, and semantic information transmission phases. Then, we identify the security and privacy issues that emerge during these three stages. Furthermore, we summarize the techniques available to mitigate these security and privacy threats, including data cleaning, robust learning, defensive strategies against backdoor attacks, adversarial training, differential privacy, cryptography, blockchain technology, model compression, and physical-layer security. Lastly, this paper outlines future research directions to guide researchers in related fields.

Intelligent Joint Security and Delay Determinacy Performance Guarantee Strategy in RIS-Assisted IIoT Communication Systems

With the advancement of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), IIoT services now exhibit diverse Quality of Service (QoS) requirements in terms of delay, determinacy, and security, which pose significant challenges for alignment with existing network resources. Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS), a key enabling technology for IIoT, not only optimizes signal propagation and enhances network performance but also ensures secure communication and deterministic delays to mitigate threats such as data leakage and eavesdropping. In this paper, we conduct a deterministic delay analysis under a specified decoding error rate for RIS-assisted IIoT communication systems using Stochastic Network Calculus (SNC). We propose an on-demand joint strategy to maximize delay determinacy while guaranteeing secure transmission performance. This is achieved by jointly optimizing the transmit power, channel blocklength (CBL) at the user end, and the phase shift matrix at the RIS. Furthermore, we introduce a State Interdependence-Driven Parameterized Deep Q-Network (SID-PDQN) algorithm to intelligently enforce on-demand performance guarantees. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SID-PDQN algorithm significantly enhances network performance compared to baseline methods such as DQN, Dueling-DQN, and DDPG.

Cross-Layer Encrypted Semantic Communication Framework for Panoramic Video Transmission

In this paper, we propose a cross-layer encrypted semantic communication (CLESC) framework for panoramic video transmission, incorporating feature extraction, encoding, encryption, cyclic redundancy check (CRC), and retransmission processes to achieve compatibility between semantic communication and traditional communication systems. Additionally, we propose an adaptive cross-layer transmission mechanism that dynamically adjusts CRC, channel coding, and retransmission schemes based on the importance of semantic information. This ensures that important information is prioritized under poor transmission conditions. To verify the aforementioned framework, we also design an end-to-end adaptive panoramic video semantic transmission (APVST) network that leverages a deep joint source-channel coding (Deep JSCC) structure and attention mechanism, integrated with a latitude adaptive module that facilitates adaptive semantic feature extraction and variable-length encoding of panoramic videos. The proposed CLESC is also applicable to the transmission of other modal data. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CLESC effectively achieves compatibility and adaptation between semantic communication and traditional communication systems, improving both transmission efficiency and channel adaptability. Compared to traditional cross-layer transmission schemes, the CLESC framework can reduce bandwidth consumption by 85% while showing significant advantages under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions.

Semantic Feature Decomposition based Semantic Communication System of Images with Large-scale Visual Generation Models

The end-to-end image communication system has been widely studied in the academic community. The escalating demands on image communication systems in terms of data volume, environmental complexity, and task precision require enhanced communication efficiency, anti-noise ability and semantic fidelity. Therefore, we proposed a novel paradigm based on Semantic Feature Decomposition (SeFD) for the integration of semantic communication and large-scale visual generation models to achieve high-performance, highly interpretable and controllable image communication. According to this paradigm, a Texture-Color based Semantic Communication system of Images TCSCI is proposed. TCSCI decomposing the images into their natural language description (text), texture and color semantic features at the transmitter. During the transmission, features are transmitted over the wireless channel, and at the receiver, a large-scale visual generation model is utilized to restore the image through received features. TCSCI can achieve extremely compressed, highly noise-resistant, and visually similar image semantic communication, while ensuring the interpretability and editability of the transmission process. The experiments demonstrate that the TCSCI outperforms traditional image communication systems and existing semantic communication systems under extreme compression with good anti-noise performance and interpretability.

Semantic Model Component Implementation for Model-driven Semantic Communications

The key feature of model-driven semantic communication is the propagation of the model. The semantic model component (SMC) is designed to drive the intelligent model to transmit in the physical channel, allowing the intelligence to flow through the networks. According to the characteristics of neural networks with common and individual model parameters, this paper designs the cross-source-domain and cross-task semantic component model. Considering that the basic model is deployed on the edge node, the large server node updates the edge node by transmitting only the semantic component model to the edge node so that the edge node can handle different sources and different tasks. In addition, this paper also discusses how channel noise affects the performance of the model and proposes methods of injection noise and regularization to improve the noise resistance of the model. Experiments show that SMCs use smaller model parameters to achieve cross-source, cross-task functionality while maintaining performance and improving the model's tolerance to noise. Finally, a component transfer-based unmanned vehicle tracking prototype was implemented to verify the feasibility of model components in practical applications.

Semantic Similarity Score for Measuring Visual Similarity at Semantic Level

Semantic communication, as a revolutionary communication architecture, is considered a promising novel communication paradigm. Unlike traditional symbol-based error-free communication systems, semantic-based visual communication systems extract, compress, transmit, and reconstruct images at the semantic level. However, widely used image similarity evaluation metrics, whether pixel-based MSE or PSNR or structure-based MS-SSIM, struggle to accurately measure the loss of semantic-level information of the source during system transmission. This presents challenges in evaluating the performance of visual semantic communication systems, especially when comparing them with traditional communication systems. To address this, we propose a semantic evaluation metric -- SeSS (Semantic Similarity Score), based on Scene Graph Generation and graph matching, which shifts the similarity scores between images into semantic-level graph matching scores. Meanwhile, semantic similarity scores for tens of thousands of image pairs are manually annotated to fine-tune the hyperparameters in the graph matching algorithm, aligning the metric more closely with human semantic perception. The performance of the SeSS is tested on different datasets, including (1)images transmitted by traditional and semantic communication systems at different compression rates, (2)images transmitted by traditional and semantic communication systems at different signal-to-noise ratios, (3)images generated by large-scale model with different noise levels introduced, and (4)cases of images subjected to certain special transformations. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of SeSS, indicating that the metric can measure the semantic-level differences in semantic-level information of images and can be used for evaluation in visual semantic communication systems.

First characterization of the scattering length distribution of vector meson interaction with deuteron

Under the framework of the vector meson dominance model (VMD), the absolute scattering lengths of light vector mesons ($ϕ$, $ω$, and $ρ$) with the deuteron are calculated from the cross sections of vector meson photoproduction off a deuteron. Additionally, a fitting function is used to predict the scattering lengths of the heavy vector mesons $J/ψ$-$d$ and $% Υ$-$d$. Based on these results, the distribution of the scattering lengths $|α_{V d}|$ between vector mesons and the deuteron is presented for the first time and compared with the scattering lengths $|α_{V p}|$ between vector mesons and the proton. It is found that as the mass of the vector meson increases, the scattering lengths $|α_{V d}|$ become closer to $|α_{V p}|$. In addition, the correlation analysis indicates a strong positive relationship between the scattering length and the vector meson radius, with a high correlation coefficient. The implications of results are essential for improving our understanding of the interaction between hadron and nucleus.

sDAC -- Semantic Digital Analog Converter for Semantic Communications

In this paper, we propose a novel semantic digital analog converter (sDAC) for the compatibility of semantic communications and digital communications. Most of the current semantic communication systems are based on the analog modulations, ignoring their incorporation with digital communication systems, which are more common in practice. In fact, quantization methods in traditional communication systems are not appropriate for use in the era of semantic communication as these methods do not consider the semantic information inside symbols. In this case, any bit flip caused by channel noise can lead to a great performance drop. To address this challenge, sDAC is proposed. It is a simple yet efficient and generative module used to realize digital and analog bi-directional conversion. On the transmitter side, continuous values from the encoder are converted to binary bits and then can be modulated by any existing methods. After transmitting through the noisy channel, these bits get demodulated by paired methods and converted back to continuous values for further semantic decoding. The whole progress does not depend on any specific semantic model, modulation methods, or channel conditions. In the experiment section, the performance of sDAC is tested across different semantic models, semantic tasks, modulation methods, channel conditions and quantization orders. Test results show that the proposed sDAC has great generative properties and channel robustness.

A Specific Task-oriented Semantic Image Communication System for substation patrol inspection

Intelligent inspection robots are widely used in substation patrol inspection, which can help check potential safety hazards by patrolling the substation and sending back scene images. However, when patrolling some marginal areas with weak signal, the scene images cannot be sucessfully transmissted to be used for hidden danger elimination, which greatly reduces the quality of robots'daily work. To solve such problem, a Specific Task-oriented Semantic Communication System for Imag-STSCI is designed, which involves the semantic features extraction, transmission, restoration and enhancement to get clearer images sent by intelligent robots under weak signals. Inspired by that only some specific details of the image are needed in such substation patrol inspection task, we proposed a new paradigm of semantic enhancement in such specific task to ensure the clarity of key semantic information when facing a lower bit rate or a low signal-to-noise ratio situation. Across the reality-based simulation, experiments show our STSCI can generally surpass traditional image-compression-based and channel-codingbased or other semantic communication system in the substation patrol inspection task with a lower bit rate even under a low signal-to-noise ratio situation.

Analysis of strong coupling constant with machine learning and its application

In this work, we investigate the nature of the strong coupling constant and related physics. Through the analysis of accumulated experimental data from around the world, we employ the ability of machine learning to unravel its physical laws. The result of our efforts is a formula that captures the expansive panorama of the distribution of the strong coupling constant across the entire energy range. Importantly, this newly derived expression is very similar to the formula derived from the Dyson-Schwinger equations based on the framework of Yang-Mills theory. By introducing the Euler number, $e$, into the functional formula of the strong coupling constant at high energies, we have successfully solved the puzzle of the infrared divergence, which allows for a seamless transition of the strong coupling constant from the perturbative to the non-perturbative energy regime. Moreover, the obtained ghost and gluon dressing function distribution results confirm that the obtained strong coupling constant formula can well describe the physical properties of the non-perturbed regime. In addition, we investigate the QCD strong coupling constant result of the Bjorken sum rule $Γ_1^{p-n}$ and the quark-quark static energy $E_0(r)$, and find that the global energy scale can effectively interpret the experimental data. The results presented in this work shed light on the puzzling properties of quantum chromodynamics and the intricate interplay of strong coupling constants at both low and high energy scales.

Semantic Importance-Aware Based for Multi-User Communication Over MIMO Fading Channels

Semantic communication, as a novel communication paradigm, has attracted the interest of many scholars, with multi-user, multi-input multi-output (MIMO) scenarios being one of the critical contexts. This paper presents a semantic importance-aware based communication system (SIA-SC) over MIMO Rayleigh fading channels. Combining the semantic symbols' inequality and the equivalent subchannels of MIMO channels based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) maximizes the end-to-end semantic performance through the new layer mapping method. For multi-user scenarios, a method of semantic interference cancellation is proposed. Furthermore, a new metric, namely semantic information distortion (SID), is established to unify the expressions of semantic performance, which is affected by channel bandwidth ratio (CBR) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). With the help of the proposed metric, we derived performance expressions and Semantic Outage Probability (SOP) of SIA-SC for Single-User Single-Input Single-Output (SU-SISO), Single-User MIMO (SU-MIMO), Multi-Users SISO (MU-MIMO) and Multi-Users MIMO (MU-MIMO) scenarios. Numerical experiments show that SIA-SC can significantly improve semantic performance across various scenarios.

Semantic Synchronization for Enhanced Reliability in Communication Systems

As a new communication paradigm, semantic communication has received widespread attention in communication fields. However, since the decoding of semantic signals relies on contextual knowledge, misalignment between the starting position of the semantic signal and the AI-based semantic decoder would prevent source signal recovery and reconstruction. To achieve more precise semantic communication, this study proposes an image-based semantic synchronization method leveraging intrinsic semantic features of image content. Specifically, a shared synchronized image (SyncImg) is encoded into a synchronization vector header at the transmitter and sent to the receiver. The receiver adopts a sliding window semantic decoder combined with classification and template matching methods to locate the synchronization point. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with traditional methods, the proposed method achieves a lower miss detected ratio (MDR) and root-mean-square error (RMSE) under low signal-to-noise ratios, realizing accurate synchronization of semantic signals across different devices.

Performance Analysis of MDMA-Based Cooperative MRC Networks with Relays in Dissimilar Rayleigh Fading Channels

Multiple access technology is a key technology in various generations of wireless communication systems. As a potential multiple access technology for the next generation wireless communication systems, model division multiple access (MDMA) technology improves spectrum efficiency and feasibility regions. This implies that the MDMA scheme can achieve greater performance gains compared to traditional schemes. Relayassisted cooperative networks, as a infrastructure of wireless communication, can effectively utilize resources and improve performance when MDMA is applied. In this paper, a communication relay cooperative network based on MDMA in dissimilar rayleigh fading channels is proposed, which consists of two source nodes, any number of decode-and-forward (DF) relay nodes, and one destination node, as well as using the maximal ratio combining (MRC) at the destination to combine the signals received from the source and relays. By applying the state transition matrix (STM) and moment generating function (MGF), closed-form analytical solutions for outage probability and resource utilization efficiency are derived. Theoretical and simulation results are conducted to verify the validity of the theoretical analysis.

Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access Enhanced Multi-User Semantic Communication

Semantic communication serves as a novel paradigm and attracts the broad interest of researchers. One critical aspect of it is the multi-user semantic communication theory, which can further promote its application to the practical network environment. While most existing works focused on the design of end-to-end single-user semantic transmission, a novel non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)-based multi-user semantic communication system named NOMASC is proposed in this paper. The proposed system can support semantic tranmission of multiple users with diverse modalities of source information. To avoid high demand for hardware, an asymmetric quantizer is employed at the end of the semantic encoder for discretizing the continuous full-resolution semantic feature. In addition, a neural network model is proposed for mapping the discrete feature into self-learned symbols and accomplishing intelligent multi-user detection (MUD) at the receiver. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed system holds good performance in non-orthogonal transmission of multiple user signals and outperforms the other methods, especially at low-to-medium SNRs. Moreover, it has high robustness under various simulation settings and mismatched test scenarios.

A Relay System for Semantic Image Transmission based on Shared Feature Extraction and Hyperprior Entropy Compression

Nowadays, the need for high-quality image reconstruction and restoration is more and more urgent. However, most image transmission systems may suffer from image quality degradation or transmission interruption in the face of interference such as channel noise and link fading. To solve this problem, a relay communication network for semantic image transmission based on shared feature extraction and hyperprior entropy compression (HEC) is proposed, where the shared feature extraction technology based on Pearson correlation is proposed to eliminate partial shared feature of extracted semantic latent feature. In addition, the HEC technology is used to resist the effect of channel noise and link fading and carried out respectively at the source node and the relay node. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with other recent research methods, the proposed system has lower transmission overhead and higher semantic image transmission performance. Particularly, under the same conditions, the multi-scale structural similarity (MS-SSIM) of this system is superior to the comparison method by approximately 0.2.

The Communication GSC System with Energy Harvesting Nodes aided by Opportunistic Routing

In this paper, a cooperative communication network based on energy-harvesting (EH) decode-and-forward (DF) relays is proposed. For relay nodes, there is harvest-storage-use (HSU) structure in this system. And energy can be obtained from the surrounding environment through energy buffering. In order to improve the performance of the communication system, the opportunistic routing algorithm and the generalized selection combining (GSC) algorithm are adopted in this communication system. In addition, from discrete-time continuous-state space Markov chain model (DCSMC), a theoretical expression of the energy limiting distribution stored in infinite buffers is derived. Through using the probability distribution and state transition matrix, the theoretical expressions of system outage probability, throughput and time cost of per packet are obtained. Through the simulation verification, the theoretical results are in good agreement with the simulation results.
