We show that the algebraic local fundamental group of any klt singularity as well as the algebraic fundamental group of the smooth locus of any log Fano variety are finite.
Let $f:(X,B)\to Z$ be a 3-fold extremal dlt flipping contraction defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$, such that the coefficients of $\{B\}$ are in the standard set $\{1-\frac 1n|n\in \mathbb N\}$, then the flip of $f$ exists. As a consequence, we prove the existence of minimal models for any projective $\Q$-factorial terminal variety $X$ with pseudo-effective canonical divisor $K_X$.
We provide examples of families of (log) smooth canonically polarized varieties, including smooth weighted pointed curves and smooth hypersurfaces in $P^3$ with large degree such that the Chow semistable limits under distinct pluricanonical embeddings do not stabilize.
We show that the number of birational automorphisms of a variety of general type X is bounded by c \cdot \vol(X,K_X), where c is a constant which only depends on the dimension of X.
Let $f:X\to U$ be a projective morphism of normal varieties and $(X,Δ)$ a dlt pair. We prove that if there is an open set $U^0\subset U$, such that $(X,Δ)\times_U U^0$ has a good minimal model over $U^0$ and the images of all the non-klt centers intersect $U^0$, then $(X,Δ)$ has a good minimal model over $U$. As consequences we show the existence of log canonical compactifications for open log canonical pairs, and the fact that the moduli functor of stable schemes satisfies the valuative criterion for properness.
We give a new proof of the finiteness of B-representations. As a consequence of the finiteness of B-representations and Kollár's gluing theory on lc centers, we prove that the (relative) abundance conjecture for slc pairs is implied by the abundance conjecture for log canonical pairs.
We prove the existence of log canonical modifications for a log pair. As an application, together with Kollär's gluing theory, we remove the assumption in the first named author's work [Odaka11], which shows that K-semistable polarized varieties can only have semi-log-canonical singularities.
Let $K = K(C)$ be the function field of a smooth curve $C$. Applying the result of [Xu08], we prove that if $S/K$ is a degree one or two del Pezzo surface which can be completed to a generic family in the parametrizing space over $C$, then weak approximation holds at every place $c \in C$.
We discuss the strong rational connectedness of smooth rationally connected surfaces. We prove in lots of cases, including the smooth locus of a log del Pezzo surface, the rational connectedness indeed implies the strong rational conectedness. This confirms a conjecture due to Hassett and Tschinkel in \cite{ht08}.
In this note, we discuss the derived functors of infinite products and homotopy limits. $QC(X)$, the category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a Deligne-Mumford stack $X$, usually has the property that the derived functors of product vanish after a finite stage. We use this fact to study the convergence of certain homotopy limits and apply it compare the derived category of $QC(X)$ with certain other closely related triangulated categories.
We give examples of Fano varieties $X$ with Picard number 1, which have terminal singularities and admit endomorphisms with degree larger than 1.
We prove the effectiveness of the log Iitaka fibration in Kodaira codimension two for varieties of dimension$\le 4$. In particular, we finish the proof of effective log Iitaka fibration in dimension two. Also, we show that for the log Iitaka fibration, if the fiber is of dimension two, the denominator of the moduli part is bounded.
It is known that the fundamental groups of smooth loci of Log del Pezzo Surfaces are finite groups. The aim of this note is to study these finite groups. A short table containing these groups is given. And lots of groups on the table are proved to be fundamental groups.
We prove that a degeneration rationally connected varieties over a field of characteristic zero always contains a geometrically irreducible subvariety which is rationally connected.
If the $\ell$-adic cohomology of a projective smooth variety, defined over a local field $K$ with finite residue field $k$, is supported in codimension $\ge 1$, then every model over the ring of integers of $K$ has a $k$-rational point. For $K$ a $p$-adic field, this is math/0405318, Theorem 1.1. If the model $\sX$ is regular, one has a congruence $|\sX(k)|\equiv 1 $ modulo $|k|$ for the number of $k$-rational points 0704.1273, Theorem 1.1. The congruence is violated if one drops the regularity assumption.
