Supermartingale deflators in the absence of a numéraire

In this paper we study arbitrage theory of financial markets in the absence of a numéraire both in discrete and continuous time. In our main results, we provide a generalization of the classical equivalence between no unbounded profits with bounded risk (NUPBR) and the existence of a supermartingale deflator. To obtain the desired results, we introduce a new approach based on disintegration of the underlying probability space into spaces where the market crashes at deterministic times.

Forecasting fuel combustion-related CO$_2$ emissions by a novel continuous fractional nonlinear grey Bernoulli model with Grey Wolf Optimizer

Foresight of CO$_2$ emissions from fuel combustion is essential for policy-makers to identify ready targets for effective reduction plans and further to improve energy policies and plans. For the purpose of accurately forecasting the future development of China's CO$_2$ emissions from fuel combustion, a novel continuous fractional nonlinear grey Bernoulli model is developed in this paper. The fractional nonlinear grey Bernoulli model already in place is known that has a fixed first-order derivative that impairs the predictive performance to some extent. To address this problem, in the newly proposed model, a flexible variable is introduced into the order of derivative, freeing it from integer-order accumulation. In order to further improve the performance of the newly proposed model, a meta-heuristic algorithm, namely Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), is determined to the emerging coefficients. To demonstrate the effectiveness, two real examples and China's fuel combustion-related CO$_2$ emissions are used for model validation by comparing with other benchmark models, the results show the proposed model outperforms competitors. Thus, the future development trend of fuel combustion-related CO$_2$ emissions by 2023 are predicted, accounting for 10039.80 Million tons (Mt). In accordance with the forecasts, several suggestions are provided to curb carbon dioxide emissions.

On Sobolev rough paths

We introduce the space of rough paths with Sobolev regularity and the corresponding concept of controlled Sobolev paths. Based on these notions, we study rough path integration and rough differential equations. As main result, we prove that the solution map associated to differential equations driven by rough paths is a locally Lipschitz continuous map on the Sobolev rough path space for any arbitrary low regularity $α$ and integrability $p$ provided $α>1/p$.

Continuous grey model with conformable fractional derivative

The existing fractional grey prediction models mainly use discrete fractional-order difference and accumulation, but in the actual modeling, continuous fractional-order calculus has been proved to have many excellent properties, such as hereditary. Now there are grey models established with continuous fractional-order calculus method, and they have achieved good results. However, the models are very complicated in the calculation and are not conducive to the actual application. In order to further simplify and improve the grey prediction models with continuous fractional-order derivative, we propose a simple and effective grey model based on conformable fractional derivatives in this paper, and two practical cases are used to demonstrate the validity of the proposed model.

Reconstruction Regularized Deep Metric Learning for Multi-label Image Classification

In this paper, we present a novel deep metric learning method to tackle the multi-label image classification problem. In order to better learn the correlations among images features, as well as labels, we attempt to explore a latent space, where images and labels are embedded via two unique deep neural networks, respectively. To capture the relationships between image features and labels, we aim to learn a \emph{two-way} deep distance metric over the embedding space from two different views, i.e., the distance between one image and its labels is not only smaller than those distances between the image and its labels' nearest neighbors, but also smaller than the distances between the labels and other images corresponding to the labels' nearest neighbors. Moreover, a reconstruction module for recovering correct labels is incorporated into the whole framework as a regularization term, such that the label embedding space is more representative. Our model can be trained in an end-to-end manner. Experimental results on publicly available image datasets corroborate the efficacy of our method compared with the state-of-the-arts.

Type-II Ising superconductivity and anomalous metallic state in macro-size ambient-stable ultrathin crystalline films

Recent emergence of two-dimensional (2D) crystalline superconductors has provided a promising platform to investigate novel quantum physics and potential applications. To reveal essential quantum phenomena therein, ultralow temperature transport investigation on high quality ultrathin superconducting films is critically required, although it has been quite challenging experimentally. Here we report a systematic transport study on the ultrathin crystalline PdTe2 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Interestingly, a new type of Ising superconductivity in 2D centrosymmetric materials is revealed by the detection of large in-plane critical field more than 7 times Pauli limit. Remarkably, in perpendicular magnetic field, we provide solid evidence of anomalous metallic state characterized by the resistance saturation at low temperatures with high quality filters. The robust superconductivity with intriguing quantum phenomena in the macro-size ambient-stable ultrathin PdTe2 films remains almost the same for 20 months, showing great potentials in electronic and spintronic applications.

Controlling the electrical and magnetic ground states by doping in the complete phase diagram of titanate Eu1-xLaxTiO3 thin films

EuTiO3, a band insulator, and LaTiO3, a Mott insulator, are both antiferromagnetic with transition temperatures ~ 5.5 K and ~ 160 K, respectively. Here, we report the synthesis of Eu1-xLaxTiO3 thin films with x = 0 to 1 by oxide molecular beam epitaxy. The films in the full range have high crystalline quality and show no phase segregation, allowing us carry out transport measurements to study their electrical and magnetic properties. From x = 0.03 to 0.95, Eu1-xLaxTiO3 films show conduction by electrons as charge carriers, with differences in carrier densities and mobilities, contrary to the insulating nature of pure EuTiO3 and LaTiO3. Following a rich phase diagram, the magnetic ground states of the films vary with increasing La-doping level, changing Eu1-xLaxTiO3 from an antiferromagnetic insulator to an antiferromagnetic metal, a ferromagnetic metal, a paramagnetic metal, and back to an antiferromagnetic insulator. These emergent properties reflect the evolutions of the band structure, mainly at the Ti t2g bands near the Fermi level, when Eu2+ are gradually replaced by La3+. This work sheds light on this method for designing the electrical and magnetic properties in strongly-correlated oxides and completes the phase diagram of the titanate Eu1-xLaxTiO3.

Unity Style Transfer for Person Re-Identification

Style variation has been a major challenge for person re-identification, which aims to match the same pedestrians across different cameras. Existing works attempted to address this problem with camera-invariant descriptor subspace learning. However, there will be more image artifacts when the difference between the images taken by different cameras is larger. To solve this problem, we propose a UnityStyle adaption method, which can smooth the style disparities within the same camera and across different cameras. Specifically, we firstly create UnityGAN to learn the style changes between cameras, producing shape-stable style-unity images for each camera, which is called UnityStyle images. Meanwhile, we use UnityStyle images to eliminate style differences between different images, which makes a better match between query and gallery. Then, we apply the proposed method to Re-ID models, expecting to obtain more style-robust depth features for querying. We conduct extensive experiments on widely used benchmark datasets to evaluate the performance of the proposed framework, the results of which confirm the superiority of the proposed model.

Tuning stoichiometry and its impact on superconductivity of monolayer and multilayer FeSe on SrTiO3

Synthesis of monolayer FeSe on SrTiO3, with greatly enhanced superconductivity compared to bulk FeSe, remains difficult. Lengthy annealing within a certain temperature window is always required to achieve superconducting samples as reported by different groups around the world, but the mechanism of annealing in inducing superconductivity has not been elucidated. We grow FeSe films on SrTiO3 by molecular beam epitaxy and adjust the stoichiometry by depositing additional small amounts of Fe atoms. The monolayer films become superconducting after the Fe deposition without any annealing, and show similar superconducting transition temperatures as those of the annealed films in transport measurements. We also demonstrate on the 5-unit-cell films that the FeSe multilayer can be reversibly tuned between the non-superconducting $\sqrt{5} \times \sqrt{5}$ phase with Fe-vacancies and superconducting $1 \times 1$ phase. Our results reveal that the traditional anneal process in essence removes Fe vacancies and the additional Fe deposition serves as a more efficient way to achieve superconductivity. This work highlights the significance of stoichiometry in the superconductivity of FeSe thin films and provides an easy path for superconducting samples.

The three-level coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations: rogue waves, semirational rogue waves and W-shaped solitons

In this paper the coupled Maxwell-Bloch equations which describe the propagation of two optical pulses in an optical medium with coherent three-level atoms are studied by Darboux transformation. The general nth-order rogue wave solution involving two different choices of multiple roots for the spectral characteristic equation and the multiparametric nth-order semirational solution are both obtained in terms of Schur polynomials. The explicit rogue wave solutions and semirational solutions from first to second order are provided. In contrast to the known Peregrine soliton, dark and four-petaled structures, some unusual patterns such as triple-hole, twisted-pair, composite four-petaled and composite dark rogue waves are put forward. Moreover, the interaction between dark-bright soliton and dark rogue wave and interaction between breather and dark rogue wave are shown. Further, the higher-order nonlinear superposition modes which feature triple and quadruple temporal-spatial distributions are presented. Finally, the state transition between rogue wave and W-shaped soliton is found where the modulation instability growth rate tends to zero under the low perturbation frequency. Particularly, the dark and double-peak W-shaped solitons are examined.

Stochastic Analysis with Modelled Distributions

Using a Besov topology on spaces of modelled distributions in the framework of Hairer's regularity structures, we prove the reconstruction theorem on these Besov spaces with negative regularity. The Besov spaces of modelled distributions are shown to be UMD Banach spaces and of martingale type $2$. As a consequence, this gives access to a rich stochastic integration theory and to existence and uniqueness results for mild solutions of semilinear stochastic partial differential equations in these spaces of modelled distributions and for distribution-valued SDEs. Furthermore, we provide a Fubini type theorem allowing to interchange the order of stochastic integration and reconstruction.

Epitaxial Growth of Perovskite SrBiO$_3$ Film on SrTiO$_3$ by Oxide Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Hole-doped perovskite bismuthates such as Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$BiO$_3$ and Sr$_{1-x}$K$_x$BiO$_3$ are well-known bismuth-based oxide high-transition-temperature superconductors. Reported thin bismuthate films show relatively low quality, likely due to their large lattice mismatch with the substrate and a low sticking coefficient of Bi at high temperatures. Here, we report the successful epitaxial thin film growth of the parent compound strontium bismuthate SrBiO$_3$ on SrO-terminated SrTiO$_3$ (001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Two different growth methods, high-temperature co-deposition or recrystallization cycles of low-temperature deposition plus high-temperature annealing, are developed to improve the epitaxial growth. SrBiO$_3$ has a pseudocubic lattice constant $\sim$4.25 Å, an $\sim$8.8\% lattice mismatch on SrTiO$_3$ substrate, leading to a large strain in the first few unit cells. Films thicker than 6 unit cells prepared by both methods are fully relaxed to bulk lattice constant and have similar quality. Compared to high-temperature co-deposition, the recrystallization method can produce higher quality 1-6 unit cell films that are coherently or partially strained. Photoemission experiments reveal the bonding and antibonding states close to the Fermi level due to Bi and O hybridization, in good agreement with density functional theory calculations. This work provides general guidance to the synthesis of high-quality perovskite bismuthate films.

Characterization of non-linear Besov spaces

The canonical generalizations of two classical norms on Besov spaces are shown to be equivalent even in the case of non-linear Besov spaces, that is, function spaces consisting of functions taking values in a metric space and equipped with some Besov-type topology. The proofs are based on atomic decomposition techniques and metric embeddings. Additionally, we provide embedding results showing how non-linear Besov spaces embed into non-linear $p$-variation spaces and vice versa. We emphasize that we neither assume the UMD property of the involved spaces nor their separability.

Breather induced quantized superfluid vortex filaments and their characterization

We study and characterize the breather-induced quantized superfluid vortex filaments which correspond to the Kuznetsov-Ma breather and super-regular breather excitations developing from localised perturbations. Such vortex filaments, emerging from an otherwise perturbed helical vortex, exhibit intriguing loop structures corresponding to the large amplitude of breathers due to the dual action of bending and twisting of the vortex. The loop induced by Kuznetsov-Ma breather emerges periodically as time increases, while the loop structure triggered by super-regular breather---the loop pair---exhibits striking symmetry breaking due to the broken reflection symmetry of the group velocities of super-regular breather. In particular, we identify explicitly the generation conditions of these loop excitations by introducing a physical quantity---the integral of the relative quadratic curvature---which corresponds to the effective energy of breathers. Although the nature of nonlinearity, it is demonstrated that this physical quantity shows a linear correlation with the loop size. These results will deepen our understanding of breather-induced vortex filaments and be helpful for controllable ring-like excitations on the vortices.

A Reconfigurable High-Performance Optical Data Center Architecture

Optical data center network architectures are becoming attractive because of their low energy consumption, large bandwidth, and low cabling complexity. In\cite{Xu1605:PODCA}, an AWGR-based passive optical data center architecture (PODCA) is presented. Compared with other optical data center architectures, e.g., DOS \cite{ye2010scalable}, Proteus \cite{singla2010proteus}, and Petabit \cite{xia2010petabit}, PODCA can save up to 90$\%$ on power consumption and 88$\%$ in cost. Also, average latency can be low as 9 $μ$s at close to 100$\%$ throughput. However, PODCA is not reconfigurable and cannot optimize the network topology to dynamic traffic. In this paper, we present a novel, scalable and flexible reconfigurable architecture called RODCA. RODCA is built on and augments PODCA with a flexible localized intra-cluster optical network. With the reconfigurable intra-cluster network, racks with mutually large traffic can be located within the same cluster, and share the large bandwidth of the intra-cluster network. We present an algorithm for DCN topology reconfiguration, and present simulation results to demonstrate the effectiveness of reconfiguration.

Chess-Board-Like Spatio-Temporal Interference Patterns and Their Excitation

We discover new type of interference patterns generated in the focusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with localised periodic initial conditions. At special conditions, found in the present work, these patterns exhibit novel chess-board-like spatio-temporal structures which can be observed as the outcome of collision of two breathers. The infinitely extended chess-board-like patterns correspond to the continuous spectrum bands of the NLSE theory. More complicated patterns can be observed when the initial condition contains several localised periodic swells. These patterns can be observed in a variety of physical situations ranging from optics and hydrodynamics to Bose-Einstein condensates and plasma.

Surface symmetry breaking and disorder effects on superconductivity in perovskite BaBi3 epitaxial films

The structural or electronic symmetry breaking of the host lattice is a recurrent phenomenon in many quantum materials, including superconductors. Yet, how these broken symmetry states affect the electronic pair wave function of superconductivity have been rarely elucidated. Here, using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and first-principles calculations, we identify the broken rotational symmetry via stripe ordering on the (001) surface of perovskite BaBi3 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy, and show that it consequently leads to anisotropic superconductivity with twofold symmetry. In contrast, the structural disorder smears out the anisotropy of electron pairing and fills superconducting subgap density of states as the film thickness is reduced. A quasi-long range model of superconducting fluctuations is revealed to describe the tunneling conductance spectra of thin BaBi3 films well, and to exemplify how disorders contribute to the low-energy quasiparticle excitations in superconductors. Our findings help understand the effects of symmetry breaking states and disorders on superconductivity, particularly the existing tunneling conductance spectra there.

Growth rate of modulation instability driven by superregular breathers

We report an exact link between Zakharov-Gelash super-regular (SR) breathers (formed by a pair of quasi-Akhmediev breathers) with interesting different nonlinear propagation characteristics and modulation instability (MI). This shows that the absolute difference of group velocities of SR breathers coincides exactly with the linear MI growth rate. This link holds for a series of nonlinear Schrödinger equations with infinite-order terms. For the particular case of SR breathers with opposite group velocities, the growth rate of SR breathers is consistent with that of each quasi-Akhmediev breather along the propagation direction. Numerical simulations reveal the robustness of different SR breathers generated from various non-ideal single and multiple initial excitations. Our results provide insight into the MI nature described by SR breathers and could be helpful for controllable SR breather excitations in related nonlinear systems.
