Thermodynamic relation of accelerating black holes in anti-de Sitter spacetime

We consider accelerating black holes in four-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime and investigate the extremality relations by examining perturbative corrections to both the entropy of black holes and their extremality bounds. It is shown that the so-called Goon and Penco (univeral) relation is also valid for accelerating black holes. Furthermore, it is found that an appropriate matching condition is necessary between the perturbation parameter of the relation with the perturbative correction to such black holes, and the parameter with information about the conical deficits on the north and south poles with the cosmic string tensions in order to satisfy the extremality relations. This result indicates that the extremality (univeral) relation of a class of accelerating black holes holds exhibit behavior similar to the Weak Gravity Conjecture.

Configuration entropy and instability of accelerating black hole in AdS

We consider an accelerating black hole with a negative cosmological constant in four-dimensional spacetime. There are two configurations such as a black string (BS) phase when a mass parameter is zero and a black hole (BH) phase when a mass parameter is non-zero. We investigate their stability via the configuration entropy (CE). It is found that the BS is not always stable but the BH has a thermally stable range below the critical mass of the BH, which is consistent with thermodynamic instability.

Configuration entropy and confinement-deconfinement transition in higher-dimensional hard wall model

We consider a higher-dimensional hard wall model with an infrared (IR) cut-off in asymptotically AdS space and investigate its thermodynamics via the holographic renormalization method. We find a relation between the confinement temperature and the IR cut-off for any dimension. It is also shown that the entropy of $p$-branes with the number of coincident branes (the number of the gauge group) $N$ jumps from leading order in $\cal O$($N^0$) at the confining low temperature phase to $\cal O$($N^{\frac{p+1}{2}}$) at the deconfining high temperature phase like $D3$-branes ($p=3$) case. On the other hand, we calculate the configuration entropy (CE) of various magnitudes of an inverse temperature at an given IR cut-off scale. It is shown that as the inverse temperature grows up, the CE above the critical temperature decreases and AdS black hole (BH) is stable while it below the critical temperature is constant and thermal AdS (ThAdS) is stable. In particular, we also find that the CE below the critical temperature becomes constant and its magnitude increases as a dimension of AdS space increases.

Quasi-Normal Modes and Stability of Einstein-Born-Infeld Black Holes in de Sitter Space

We study gravitational perturbations of electrically charged black holes in (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity with a positive cosmological constant. For the axial perturbations, we obtain a set of decoupled Schrodinger-type equations, whose formal expressions, in terms of metric functions, are the same as those without cosmological constant, corresponding to the Regge-Wheeler equation in the proper limit. We compute the quasi-normal modes (QNMs) of the decoupled perturbations using the Schutz-Iyer-Will's WKB method. We discuss the stability of the charged black holes by investigating the dependence of quasi-normal frequencies on the parameters of the theory, correcting some errors in the literature. It is found that all the axial perturbations are stable for the cases where the WKB method applies. There are cases where the conventional WKB method does not apply, like the three-turning-points problem, so that a more generalized formalism is necessary for studying their QNMs and stabilities. We find that, for the degenerate horizons with the "point-like" horizons at the origin, the QNMs are quite long-lived, close to the quasi-resonance modes, in addition to the "frozen" QNMs for the Nariai-type horizons and the usual (short-lived) QNMs for the extremal black hole horizons. This is a genuine effect of the branch which does not have the general relativity limit. We also study the exact solution near the (charged) Nariai limit and find good agreements even far beyond the limit for the imaginary frequency parts.

Configurational entropy and instability of tachyonic braneworld

We consider tachyonic braneworld with a bulk cosmological constant and investigate a configurational entropy of various magnitudes of scale factor. It is found that for a bulk negative/zero cosmological constant, the configurational entropy has a global minimum when the magnitude of scale factor reaches the critical value. This result seems to have intriguing implications such that an accelerated rate of the universe and cosmological inflation rate for radiation/matter domination are able to be determined by such critical value. We also find that the configurational entropy almost monotonically decreases for a bulk positive cosmological constant as the magnitude of scale factor grows up. We find an exact solution of tachyonic braneworld in a bulk de Sitter space. It is shown that such system under scalar perturbations is stable for some constraint relation. Furthermore, we also find that tachyonic braneworld model with a bulk negative/zero cosmological constant is always stable under scalar perturbations.

Configurational entropy of tachyon kinks on unstable Dp-branes

We consider tachyon effective theory with Born-Infeld electromagnetic fields and investigate the configurational entropy of the various tachyon kink solutions. We find that the configurational entropy stats at a minimum value and saturates to a maximum value as the negative pressure of pure tachyonic field increases. In particular, when an electric field is turned on and its magnitude is larger than or equal to the critical value, we find the configurational entropy has a global minimum, which is related to the predominant tachyonic states.

Quasi-Normal Modes of a Natural AdS Wormhole in Einstein-Born-Infeld Gravity

We study the matter perturbations of a new AdS wormhole in (3+1)-dimensional Einstein-Born-Infeld gravity, called "natural wormhole", which does not require exotic matters. We discuss the stability of the perturbations by numerically computing the quasi-normal modes (QNMs) of a massive scalar field in the wormhole background. We investigate the dependence of quasi-normal frequencies on the mass of scalar field as well as other parameters of the wormhole. It is found that the perturbations are always stable for the wormhole geometry which has the general relativity (GR) limit when the scalar field mass m satisfies a certain, tachyonic mass bound m^2 > m^2_* with m^2_* < 0, analogous to the Breitenlohner-Freedman (BF) bound in the global-AdS space, m^2_BF = 3 Lambda/4. It is also found that the BF-like bound m^2_* shifts by the changes of the cosmological constant Lambda or angular-momentum number l, with a level crossing between the lowest complex and pure-imaginary modes for zero angular momentum l = 0. Furthermore, it is found that the unstable modes can also have oscillatory parts as well as non-oscillatory parts depending on whether the real and imaginary parts of frequencies are dependent on each other or not, contrary to arguments in the literature. For wormhole geometries which do not have the GR limit, the BF-like bound does not occur and the perturbations are stable for arbitrary tachyonic and non-tachyonic masses, up to a critical mass m^2_c > 0 where the perturbations are completely frozen.

Configurational entropy of charged AdS black holes

When we consider charged AdS black holes in higher dimensional spacetime and a molecule number density along coexistence curves is numerically extended to higher dimensional cases. It is found that a number density difference of a small and large black holes decrease as a total dimension grows up. In particular, we find that a configurational entropy is a concave function of a reduced temperature and reaches a maximum value at a critical (second-order phase transition) point. Furthermore, the bigger a total dimension becomes, the more concave function in a configurational entropy while the more convex function in a reduced pressure.

The Thermodynamic Properties of Warped Taub-NUT AdS Black String

When we consider five-dimensional warped Taub-NUT/Bolt AdS black string with minimally coupled massive scalar field, we calculate entropy by using the brick wall method. It is found that they are proportional to being quadratically divergent in a cutoff parameter. In particular, we show that the entropy of warped Taub-NUT AdS black string holds for an area law in the bulk as well as on the brane. Furthermore, when the negative cosmological constant is treated as thermodynamic pressure, we calculate the thermodynamic quantities and investigate their extended thermodynamic properties. Interestingly, we obtain a thermodynamically stable range as a function of the temperature for warped Taub-NUT AdS black string. Finally, we also study a proportional behavior of the thermodynamic quantities along a warp factor, and find that an entropy, a specific heat, a Gibbs free energy, and an action difference increase as a warp factor grows up.

The Extended Thermodynamic Properties of a topological Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS spaces

We consider higher dimensional topological Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS solutions where a cosmological constant is treated as a pressure. The thermodynamic quantities of these solutions are explicitly calculated. Furthermore, we find these thermodynamic quantities satisfy the Clapeyron equation. In particular, a new thermodynamically stable region for the NUT solution is found by studying the Gibbs free energy. Intriguingly, we also find that like the AdS black hole case, the G-T diagram of the Bolt solution has two branches which are joined at a minimum temperature. The Bolt solution with the large radius, at the lower branch, becomes stable beyond a certain temperature while the Bolt solution with the small radius, at the upper branch, is always unstable.

The Extended Thermodynamic Properties of Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS spaces

We investigate the extended thermodynamic properties of higher-dimensional Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS spaces where a cosmological constant is treated as a pressure. We find a general form for thermodynamic volumes of Taub-NUT/Bolt-AdS black holes for arbitrary dimensions. Interestingly, it is found that the Taub-NUT-AdS metric has a thermodynamically stable range when the total number of dimensions is a multiple of 4 (4, 8, 12, ...). We also explore their phase structure and find the first order phase transition holds for higher-dimensional cases.

The holographic superconductors in higher-dimensional AdS soliton

We explore the behaviors of the holographic superconductors at zero temperature for a charged scalar field coupled to a Maxwell field in higher-dimensional AdS soliton spacetime via analytical way. In the probe limit, we obtain the critical chemical potentials increase linearly as a total dimension $d$ grows up. We find that the critical exponent for condensation operator is obtained as 1/2 independently of $d$, and the charge density is linearly related to the chemical potential near the critical point. Furthermore, we consider a slightly generalized setup the Einstein-Power-Maxwell field theory, and find that the critical exponent for condensation operator is given as $1/(4-2n)$ in terms of a power parameter $n$ of the Power-Maxwell field, and the charge density is proportional to the chemical potential to the power of $1/(2-n)$.

Hawking Temperature in Taub-NUT (A)dS spaces via the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

Using the extended forms of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle from string theory and the quantum gravity theory, we drived Hawking temperature of a Taub-Nut-(A)dS black hole. In spite of their distinctive natures such as asymptotically locally flat and breakdown of the area theorem of the horizon for the black holes, we show that the corrections to Hawking temperature by the generalized versions of the the Heisenberg uncertainty principle increases like the Schwarzschild-(A)dS black hole and give the reason why the Taub-Nut-(A)dS metric may have AdS/CFT dual picture.

Solutions in IR modified Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

In order to allow the asymptotically flat, we consider Hořava-Lifshitz gravity theory with a soft violation of the detailed balance condition and obtain various solutions. In particular, we find that such theory coupled to a global monopole leads to a solution representing a space with deficit solid angle, which is well matched with genuine feature of GR.

3-dimensional holographic trace anomaly from AdS/CFT correspondence

We explicitly obtain energy-momentum tensor at the asymptotic 3-dimensional region of Schwarzschild AdS$_4$ and Taub-NUT-(A)dS$_4$ using the so-called `counter-term subtraction method' in Fefferman-Graham coordinate. The energy momentum tensor is presented in a closed form for the AdS$_4$ and for the special case of Taub-NUT-dS and in an asymptotic series for other cases. The result suggests that in light of AdS/CFT correspondence, the 3-dimensional trace anomaly can be expressed in terms of the 3-dimensional volume and Ricci scalar.

Evolution of Tachyon Kink with Electric Field

We investigate the decay of an inhomogeneous D1-brane wrapped on a $S^1$ with an electric field. The model that we consider consists of an array of tachyon kink and anti-kink with a constant electric flux. Beginning with an initially static configuration, we numerically evolve the tachyon field with some perturbations under a fixed boundary condition at diametrically opposite points on the circle $S^1$. When the electric flux is smaller than the critical value, the tachyon kink becomes unstable; the tachyon field rolls down the potential, and the lower dimensional D0- and $\bar {\rm D}0$-brane become thin, which resembles the caustic formation known for this type of the system in the literature. For the supercritical values of the electric flux, the tachyon kink remains stable.

Late Time Behaviors of an Inhomogeneous Rolling Tachyon

We study an inhomogeneous decay of an unstable D-brane in the context of Dirac-Born-Infeld~(DBI)-type effective action. We consider tachyon and electromagnetic fields with dependence of time and one spatial coordinate, and an exact solution is found under an exponentially decreasing tachyon potential, $e^{-|T|/\sqrt{2}}$, which is valid for the description of the late time behavior of an unstable D-brane. Though the obtained solution contains both time and spatial dependence, the corresponding momentum density vanishes over the entire spacetime region. The solution is governed by two parameters. One adjusts the distribution of energy density in the inhomogeneous direction, and the other interpolates between the homogeneous rolling tachyon and static configuration. As time evolves, the energy of the unstable D-brane is converted into the electric flux and tachyon matter.
