Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials for extended Scarf I potentials with position-dependent mass

We show that the Scarf I potential problem in a position-dependent mass background of the type $m(\alpha;x) = (1 + \alpha \sin x)^{-2}$, $0<\alpha<1$, can be solved by using a point canonical transformation mapping the corresponding Schr\" odinger equation onto that of the Scarf I potential with constant mass. The inverse point canonical transformation then provides some exactly-solvable rational extensions of the Scarf I potential with positive-dependent mass associated with $X_m$-Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials of type I, II, or III. The Scarf I potential problem with position-dependent mass is shown to exhibit a deformed shape invariance property in a deformed supersymmetric framework. Such a property is also valid for extended potentials of type I and II. The results are illustrated with a simple example.

Rationally-extended radial harmonic oscillator in a position-dependent mass background

We show that the radial harmonic oscillator problem in the position-dependent mass background of the type $m(\alpha;r) = (1+\alpha r^2)^{-2}$, $\alpha>0$, can be solved by using a point canonical transformation mapping the corresponding Schr\"odinger equation onto that of the P\"oschl-Teller I potential with constant mass. The radial harmonic oscillator problem with position-dependent mass is shown to exhibit a deformed shape invariance property in a deformed supersymmetric framework. The inverse point canonical transformation then provides some exactly-solvable rational extensions of the radial harmonic oscillator with position-dependent mass associated with $X_m$-Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials of type I, II, or III. The extended potentials of type I and II are proved to display deformed shape invariance. The spectrum and wavefunctions of the radial harmonic oscillator potential and its extensions are shown to go over to well-known results when the deforming parameter $\alpha$ goes to zero.

$m$-step rational extensions of the trigonometric Darboux-Pöschl-Teller potential based on para-Jacobi polynomials

A previous construction of regular rational extensions of the trigonometric Darboux-Pöschl-Teller potential, obtained by one-step Darboux transformations using seed functions associated with the para-Jacobi polynomials of Calogero and Yi, is generalized by considering $m$-step Darboux transformations. As a result, some novel families of exceptional orthogonal polynomials depending on $m$ discrete parameters, as well as $m$ continuous real ones $λ_1$, $λ_2$, \ldots, $λ_m$, are obtained. The restrictions imposed on these parameters by the rational extensions regularity conditions are studied in detail.

Dynamical and invariance algebras of the $d$-dimensional Dunkl-Coulomb problem

It is shown that the rich algebraic structure of the standard $d$-dimensional Coulomb problem can be extended to its Dunkl counterpart. Replacing standard derivatives by Dunkl ones in the so($d+1$,2) dynamical algebra generators of the former gives rise to a deformed algebra with similar commutation relations, except that the metric tensor becomes dependent on the reflection operators and that there are some additional commutation or anticommutation relations involving the latter. It is then shown that from some of the dynamical algebra generators it is straightforward to derive the integrals of motion of the Dunkl-Coulomb problem in Sturm representation. Finally, from the latter, the components of a deformed Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector are built. Together with the Dunkl angular momentum components, such operators insure the superintegrability of the Dunkl-Coulomb problem in Schrödinger representation.

Algebraic approach to a $d$-dimensional matrix Hamiltonian with so($d+1)$ symmetry

A novel spin-extended so($d+1$,1) algebra is introduced and shown to provide an interesting framework for discussing the properties of a $d$-dimensional matrix Hamiltonian with spin 1/2 and so($d+1$) symmetry. With some $d+2$ additional operators, spanning a basis of an so($d+1$,1) irreducible representation, the so($d+1$,1) generators provide a very easy way for deriving the integrals of motion of the matrix Hamiltonian in Sturm representation. Such integrals of motion are then transformed into those of the matrix Hamiltonian in Schr\"odinger representation, including a Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector with spin. This leads to a derivation of the latter, as well as its properties in a more extended algebraic framework.

Connecting Exceptional Orthogonal Polynomials of Different Kind

The known asymptotic relations interconnecting Jacobi, Laguerre, and Hermite classical orthogonal polynomials are generalized to the corresponding exceptional orthogonal polynomials of codimension $m$. It is proved that $X_m$-Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials of type I, II, or III can be obtained as limits of $X_m$-Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials of the same type. Similarly, $X_m$-Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials of type III can be derived from $X_m$-Jacobi or $X_m$-Laguerre ones. The quadratic transformations expressing Hermite classical orthogonal polynomials in terms of Laguerre ones is also extended to even $X_{2m}$-Hermite exceptional orthogonal polynomials.

So (2, 1) algebra, local Fermi velocity, and position-dependent mass Dirac equation

We investigate the (1+1)-dimensional position-dependent mass Dirac equation within the confines of so(2,1) potential algebra by utilizing the character of a spatial varying Fermi velocity. We examine the combined effects of the two when the Dirac equation is equipped with an external pseuodoscalar potential. Solutions of the three cases induced by so(2, 1) are explored by profitably making use of a point canonical transformation.

Dynamical symmetry algebra of two superintegrable two-dimensional systems

A complete classification of 2D superintegrable systems on two-dimensional conformally flat spaces has been performed over the years and 58 models, divided into 12 equivalence classes, have been obtained. We will re-examine two pseudo-Hermitian quantum systems $E_{8}$ and $E_{10}$ from such a classification by a new approach based on extra sets of ladder operators. Those extra ladder operators are exploited to obtain the generating spectrum algebra and the dynamical symmetry one. We will relate the generators of the dynamical symmetry algebra to the Hamiltonian, thus demonstrating that the latter can be written in an algebraic form. We will also link them to the integrals of motion providing the superintegrability property. This demonstrates how the dynamical symmetry algebra explains the symmetries. Furthermore, we will exploit those algebraic constructions to generate extended sets of states and give the action of the ladder operators on them. We will present polynomials of the Hamiltonian and the integrals of motion that vanish on some of those states, then demonstrating that the sets of states not only contain eigenstates, but also generalized states. Our approach provides a natural framework for such states.

Ladder Operators and Hidden Algebras for Shape Invariant Nonseparable and Nondiagonalizable Modelswith Quadratic Complex Interaction. I. Two-Dimensional Model

A shape invariant nonseparable and nondiagonalizable two-dimensional model with quadratic complex interaction, first studied by Cannata, Ioffe, and Nishnianidze, is re-examined with the purpose of exhibiting its hidden algebraic structure. The two operators $A^+$ and $A^-$, coming from the shape invariant supersymmetrical approach, where $A^+$ acts as a raising operator while $A^-$ annihilates all wavefunctions, are completed by introducing a novel pair of operators $B^+$ and $B^-$, where $B^-$ acts as the missing lowering operator. These four operators then serve as building blocks for constructing ${\mathfrak{gl}}(2)$ generators, acting within the set of associated functions belonging to the Jordan block corresponding to a given energy eigenvalue. This analysis is extended to the set of Jordan blocks by constructing two pairs of bosonic operators, finally yielding an ${\mathfrak{sp}}(4)$ algebra, as well as an ${\mathfrak{osp}}(1/4)$ superalgebra. Hence, the hidden algebraic structure of the model is very similar to that known for the two-dimensional real harmonic oscillator.

Ladder Operators and Hidden Algebras for Shape Invariant Nonseparable and Nondiagonalizable Modelswith Quadratic Complex Interaction. II. Three-Dimensional Model

A shape invariant nonseparable and nondiagonalizable three-dimensional model with quadratic complex interaction was introduced by Bardavelidze, Cannata, Ioffe, and Nishnianidze. However, the complete hidden symmetry algebra and the description of the associated states that form Jordan blocks remained to be studied. We present a set of six operators $\{A^{\pm},B^{\pm},C^{\pm}\}$ that can be combined to build a ${\mathfrak{gl}}(3)$ hidden algebra. The latter can be embedded in an ${\mathfrak{sp}}(6)$ algebra, as well as in an ${\mathfrak{osp}}(1/6)$ superalgebra. The states associated with the eigenstates and making Jordan blocks are induced in different ways by combinations of operators acting on the ground state. We present the action of these operators and study the construction of an extended biorthogonal basis. These rely on establishing various nontrivial polynomial and commutator identities. We also make a connection between the hidden symmetry and the underlying superintegrability property of the model. Interestingly, the integrals generate a cubic algebra. This work demonstrates how various concepts that have been applied widely to Hermitian Hamiltonians, such as hidden symmetries, superintegrability, and ladder operators, extend to the pseudo-Hermitian case with many differences.

Connection between quantum systems involving the fourth Painleve transcendent and $k$-step rational extensions of the harmonic oscillator related to Hermite EOP

The purpose of this communication is to point out the connection between a 1D quantum Hamiltonian involving the fourth Painleve transcendent P$_{\rm IV}$, obtained in the context of second-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics and third-order ladder operators, with a hierarchy of families of quantum systems called $k$-step rational extensions of the harmonic oscillator and related with multi-indexed $X_{m_{1},m_{2},...,m_{k}}$ Hermite exceptionnal orthogonal polynomials of type III. The connection between these exactly solvable models is established at the level of the equivalence of the Hamiltonians using rational solutions of the fourth Painleve equation in terms of generalized Hermite and Okamoto polynomials. We also relate the different ladder operators obtained by various combinations of supersymmetric constructions involving Darboux-Crum and Krein-Adler supercharges, their zero modes and the corresponding energies. These results will demonstrate and clarify the relation observed for a particular case in previous papers.

Confluent Chains of DBT: Enlarged Shape Invariance and New Orthogonal Polynomials

We construct rational extensions of the Darboux-Pöschl-Teller and isotonic potentials via two-step confluent Darboux transformations. The former are strictly isospectral to the initial potential, whereas the latter are only quasi-isospectral. Both are associated to new families of orthogonal polynomials, which, in the first case, depend on a continuous parameter. We also prove that these extended potentials possess an enlarged shape invariance property.

Deformed oscillator algebra approach of some quantum superintegrable Lissajous systems on the sphere and of their rational extensions

We extend the construction of 2D superintegrable Hamiltonians with separation of variables in spherical coordinates using combinations of shift, ladder, and supercharge operators to models involving rational extensions of the two-parameter Lissajous systems on the sphere. These new families of superintegrable systems with integrals of arbitrary order are connected with Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) of type I (or II) and supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM). Moreover, we present an algebraic derivation of the degenerate energy spectrum for the one- and two-parameter Lissajous systems and the rationally extended models. These results are based on finitely generated polynomial algebras, Casimir operators, realizations as deformed oscillator algebras and finite-dimensional unitary representations. Such results have only been established so far for 2D superintegrable systems separable in Cartesian coordinates, which are related to a class of polynomial algebras that display a simpler structure. We also point out how the structure function of these deformed oscillator algebras is directly related with the generalized Heisenberg algebras (GHA) spanned by the nonpolynomial integrals.

Combined state-adding and state-deleting approaches to type III multi-step rationally-extended potentials: applications to ladder operators and superintegrability

Type III multi-step rationally-extended harmonic oscillator and radial harmonic oscillator potentials, characterized by a set of $k$ integers $m_1$, $m_2$, \ldots, $m_k$, such that $m_1 < m_2 < \cdots < m_k$ with $m_i$ even (resp.\ odd) for $i$ odd (resp.\ even), are considered. The state-adding and state-deleting approaches to these potentials in a supersymmetric quantum mechanical framework are combined to construct new ladder operators. The eigenstates of the Hamiltonians are shown to separate into $m_k+1$ infinite-dimensional unitary irreducible representations of the corresponding polynomial Heisenberg algebras. These ladder operators are then used to build a higher-order integral of motion for seven new infinite families of superintegrable two-dimensional systems separable in cartesian coordinates. The finite-dimensional unitary irreducible representations of the polynomial algebras of such systems are directly determined from the ladder operator action on the constituent one-dimensional Hamiltonian eigenstates and provide an algebraic derivation of the superintegrable systems whole spectrum including the level total degeneracies.

Disconjugacy, regularity of multi-indexed rationally-extended potentials, and Laguerre exceptional polynomials

The power of the disconjugacy properties of second-order differential equations of Schrödinger type to check the regularity of rationally-extended quantum potentials connected with exceptional orthogonal polynomials is illustrated by re-examining the extensions of the isotonic oscillator (or radial oscillator) potential derived in kth-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics or multistep Darboux-Bäcklund transformation method. The function arising in the potential denominator is proved to be a polynomial with a nonvanishing constant term, whose value is calculated by induction over k. The sign of this term being the same as that of the already known highest-degree term, the potential denominator has the same sign at both extremities of the definition interval, a property that is shared by the seed eigenfunction used in the potential construction. By virtue of disconjugacy, such a property implies the nodeless character of both the eigenfunction and the resulting potential.

New families of superintegrable systems from Hermite and Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials

In recent years, many exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) were introduced and used to construct new families of 1D exactly solvable quantum potentials, some of which are shape invariant. In this paper, we construct from Hermite and Laguerre EOP and their related quantum systems new 2D superintegrable Hamiltonians with higher-order integrals of motion and the polynomial algebras generated by their integrals of motion. We obtain the finite-dimensional unitary representations of the polynomial algebras and the corresponding energy spectrum. We also point out a new type of degeneracies of the energy levels of these systems that is associated with holes in sequences of EOP.

Novel Enlarged Shape Invariance Property and Exactly Solvable Rational Extensions of the Rosen-Morse II and Eckart Potentials

The existence of a novel enlarged shape invariance property valid for some rational extensions of shape-invariant conventional potentials, first pointed out in the case of the Morse potential, is confirmed by deriving all rational extensions of the Rosen-Morse II and Eckart potentials that can be obtained in first-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Such extensions are shown to belong to three different types, the first two strictly isospectral to some starting conventional potential with different parameters and the third with an extra bound state below the spectrum of the latter. In the isospectral cases, the partner of the rational extensions resulting from the deletion of their ground state can be obtained by translating both the potential parameter $A$ (as in the conventional case) and the degree $m$ of the polynomial arising in the denominator. It therefore belongs to the same family of extensions, which turns out to be closed.

Revisiting the Symmetries of the Quantum Smorodinsky-Winternitz System in D Dimensions

The $D$-dimensional Smorodinsky-Winternitz system, proposed some years ago by Evans, is re-examined from an algebraic viewpoint. It is shown to possess a potential algebra, as well as a dynamical potential one, in addition to its known symmetry and dynamical algebras. The first two are obtained in hyperspherical coordinates by introducing $D$ auxiliary continuous variables and by reducing a 2D-dimensional harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian. The su(2D) symmetry and ${\rm w}(2D) \oplus_s {\rm sp}(4D,{\mathbb R})$ dynamical algebras of this Hamiltonian are then transformed into the searched for potential and dynamical potential algebras of the Smorodinsky-Winternitz system. The action of generators on wavefunctions is given in explicit form for D=2.
