Solvable Rational Potentials and Exceptional Orthogonal Polynomials in Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

New exactly solvable rationally-extended radial oscillator and Scarf I potentials are generated by using a constructive supersymmetric quantum mechanical method based on a reparametrization of the corresponding conventional superpotential and on the addition of an extra rational contribution expressed in terms of some polynomial $g$. The cases where $g$ is linear or quadratic are considered. In the former, the extended potentials are strictly isospectral to the conventional ones with reparametrized couplings and are shape invariant. In the latter, there appears a variety of extended potentials, some with the same characteristics as the previous ones and others with an extra bound state below the conventional potential spectrum. Furthermore, the wavefunctions of the extended potentials are constructed. In the linear case, they contain $(ν+1)$th-degree polynomials with $ν=0,1,2,...$, which are shown to be $X_1$-Laguerre or $X_1$-Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials. In the quadratic case, several extensions of these polynomials appear. Among them, two different kinds of $(ν+2)$th-degree Laguerre-type polynomials and a single one of $(ν+2)$th-degree Jacobi-type polynomials with $ν=0,1,2,...$ are identified. They are candidates for the still unknown $X_2$-Laguerre and $X_2$-Jacobi exceptional orthogonal polynomials, respectively.

Point Canonical Transformation versus Deformed Shape Invariance for Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equations

On using the known equivalence between the presence of a position-dependent mass (PDM) in the Schrödinger equation and a deformation of the canonical commutation relations, a method based on deformed shape invariance has recently been devised for generating pairs of potential and PDM for which the Schrödinger equation is exactly solvable. This approach has provided the bound-state energy spectrum, as well as the ground-state and the first few excited-state wavefunctions. The general wavefunctions have however remained unknown in explicit form because for their determination one would need the solutions of a rather tricky differential-difference equation. Here we show that solving this equation may be avoided by combining the deformed shape invariance technique with the point canonical transformation method in a novel way. It consists in employing our previous knowledge of the PDM problem energy spectrum to construct a constant-mass Schrödinger equation with similar characteristics and in deducing the PDM wavefunctions from the known constant-mass ones. Finally, the equivalence of the wavefunctions coming from both approaches is checked.

Quadratic Algebra Approach to an Exactly Solvable Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equation in Two Dimensions

An exactly solvable position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation in two dimensions, depicting a particle moving in a semi-infinite layer, is re-examined in the light of recent theories describing superintegrable two-dimensional systems with integrals of motion that are quadratic functions of the momenta. To get the energy spectrum a quadratic algebra approach is used together with a realization in terms of deformed parafermionic oscillator operators. In this process, the importance of supplementing algebraic considerations with a proper treatment of boundary conditions for selecting physical wavefunctions is stressed. Some new results for matrix elements are derived. This example emphasizes the interest of a quadratic algebra approach to position-dependent mass Schrödinger equations.

Generalized Deformed Commutation Relations with Nonzero Minimal Uncertainties in Position and/or Momentum and Applications to Quantum Mechanics

Two generalizations of Kempf's quadratic canonical commutation relation in one dimension are considered. The first one is the most general quadratic commutation relation. The corresponding nonzero minimal uncertainties in position and momentum are determined and the effect on the energy spectrum and eigenfunctions of the harmonic oscillator in an electric field is studied. The second extension is a function-dependent generalization of the simplest quadratic commutation relation with only a nonzero minimal uncertainty in position. Such an uncertainty now becomes dependent on the average position. With each function-dependent commutation relation we associate a family of potentials whose spectrum can be exactly determined through supersymmetric quantum mechanical and shape invariance techniques. Some representations of the generalized Heisenberg algebras are proposed in terms of conventional position and momentum operators $x$, $p$. The resulting Hamiltonians contain a contribution proportional to $p^4$ and their $p$-dependent terms may also be functions of $x$. The theory is illustrated by considering Pöschl-Teller and Morse potentials.
